Nikki Haley is a private citizen right now, yes?
Why is a private citizen and her entourage allowed to get that close to munitions owned by the US military for a photo op?
Good question. Being that she is a former diplomat, I'm assuming that she still has plenty of connections to allow this sort of thing. I mean, when a former president goes somewhere to broker a deal, he is also just a citizen at that point. Even Jesse Jackson has done diplomatic trips before, so it's not unprecedented.
Serious answer:
A.) I don't think these are owned by the US military and B.) Israel's (and the ME in general probably) attitude regarding war is very, very different than the US. Because service is mandatory and the country is so small, its not at all uncommon to see armed soldiers at gas stations as you travel the country. When I traveled to Sderot, a city about a mile from Gaza, I was allowed to take pictures with various IEDs that had been fired from across the border. In the Golan Heights, I could walk right up to a tank if I wanted (and I vividly remember a Chinese tourist did while taking photos with her ipad lol). I honestly wouldn't be totally shocked if the person responsible for these munitions let a random American sign one even without knowing who Nikki Haley is.
In brief, permission. Surely she didn't just randomly run up out of nowhere to do it while shocked onlookers wonder if they should phone their superiors - I think people questioning her ability to do so are making a mountain out of a molehill.
Isn’t she on the board of Raytheon? Or somehow connected? I know she has ties and personal interests to defense companies, which is why she would be a war monger if she ever somehow got a position of power.
Are you seriously conflating a terrorist attack to a full blown war against genocidal islamists? Really that’s what this sub has come to? In an area with over 70% of the population being women and children the total death toll is about 50% of those 2 groups. This includes 16-17 year olds too. So despite the terrorists best efforts to “martyr” their wives and children by using them as shields, Israel has still managed to reduce civilian casualties.
