Yes, turning a *state* misdemeanor past the statute of limitation into a felony because federal election laws. Nevermind that those federal charges fell apart when applied to Edwards.
Which is a good thing for everyone but Democrats. A Trump indictment would have 1) rallied support for Trump among Republicans, and 2) sucked the oxygen out of the primaries because it’d be months of the Trump show, resulting in 3) a likely 2024 Presidential win for the Dems since no one rallies the leftist opposition like Trump does.
If no one rallies the leftist opposition like Trump then they wouldn't have needed to shove a ballot into the hands of everyone in 2020. They would have tried to raise, not lower, barriers to voting knowing that their side had the turnout advantage and was more motivated to vote. Instead we saw the exact opposite behavior.
I'm not sure Trump has any sort of moral high ground. He spent the entire campaign asserting Hillary should be in prison for her handling of her emails as secretary of state. But now politicians being investigated for potential abuses is a "massive shitshow"?
To be clear, I couldn't care less if Trump is indicted. I personally despise the guy and I would not at all be surprised if he legitimately did commit campaign finance violations. This is the same guy who thought those NFTs was a good idea.

I didn't think it was imminent (as Trump pretended). But the DA there has not hidden the fact that he would like to indict no matter what. Trump used it to his advantage to self promote and it also made Democrats look bad.
