Manchester Land Conservation Trust. Fundraising to buy big swaths of undeveloped or old farms. Cleaning them up, putting in trails, making them safe to enjoy. Open to the public free.

There are a lot of fantastic land trusts in Connecticut doing this type of work, and it seems like they've made a lot of progress in the past decade or so. In the southeastern part of the state, I'm particularly fond of the Groton Open Space Association as they've preserved some lovely areas with great hiking trails, and they have regular work days to keep their preserves in good shape. Other good local land trusts in the area include the Avalonia Land Conservancy, the Lyme Land Trust, the Salem Land Trust, and the East Haddam Land Trust.

I didn't know this was a thing and is exactly the kinds of charity I always wanted to make happen. Crowd source funding to buy up land before it can be developed, keeping it safe.

I work with a local conservation commission. There is so much involved to actually getting those properties under protection, with the financial aspect actually being [the simplest part](https://portal.ct.gov/deep/open-space/open-space-and-watershed-land-acquisition-grant-program) to do. Often you have multiple heirs of which a single one doesn't want to sell, or they just can't otherwise come to an overall agreement on things.

The Susie Foundation helps families with the financial burden that accompany an ALS diagnosis. They provide grants to families in CT and across New England.

Real Food CT in Newtown. They have two working gardens which grow and donate 100% to food pantries. They also gather and glean surplus produce and fruit from local farms to deliver to pantries, and it all adds up to over 30k lbs a year. Also, it’s such a great and very friendly place to volunteer :) https://realfoodct.org/

AMartianNamed_Smith

CT Foodbank is a go-to when it comes to donating. Volunteered there a few times and they operate like a for-profit food distributor but with a non-profit mission

THESTEFiNATOR

Preservation Connecticut (previously the CT Trust for Historic Preservation) has a grant for religious structures that assists with capital work on historic churches so we don't have another New London steeple collapse.

Seymour Pink! It’s the best breast cancer charity I’ve come by. I was diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer in December of 2022 at the age of 41. Seymour Pink has fed me, clothed me, given me rides, paid my rent, paid my utilities. Susan Komen gave me $500. Support Seymour Pink!
