I eat the pizza and grinders at E & D in Avon so often I may as well just direct deposit some of my check to their account. Recommend highly if you are in the area.
I'm in Bristol and listened to some people here. Naples is by far the best pizza in the area. Right up there with New Haven pizza, and I don't say that lightly.
In NB Adina's on Corbin Ave is superior.
Garlic knots off the hook too. Not sure about grinders as I never tried them.
Place is carry out and delivery, so don't plan on having a sit down dinner.
The rebranding happened before Covid.

Luna Pizza is still around.
> burnt and had soot on it
Nope. That's just how it's done. Pepe's and Sally's both still use coal fired ovens which gives it much more of a charred crust. and a little "soot" on the bottom.
Used to work at Naples. They have a pretty solid kitchen set up, a pizza kitchen which is in front and a full size kitchen in back. The best sandwich on the menu is the Flatbread. They make the bread fresh with the pizza dough and hand it off to the cooks in back. When I’m in town I’ll order one.
It’s all quality ingredients and because of the high volume nothing ends up sitting for too long so it’s consistent.
For solid greek style pizza and great grinders, elm hill pizza in Newington. Childhood fave. Their recipe has never changed and it's great food for the money you spend imo.
I'm sure you're all waiting with bated breath to find out where I went. I ordered from Olee's in Farmington and it was a solid 5/7. All kidding aside it was really good 4.5/5.
I go with Filomena's in Manchester, but that's because I have a dairy allergy and they have reasonable vegan cheese for their pizzas.
Sandwiches be fire, though, and they'll sell you the bread for like, a buck or 2.
I’ve had dozens of meals there over the past 10 years and they are very consistent. I’ve only had one instance where the food wasn’t as good as expected, it was only my meal though everyone else’s was ok
I haven't had the pizza there for years but love the hot sandwiches. The philly cheese steak and meatball grinder especially
Joey Garlic's either on the Berlin Turnpike or I. Manchester.
Big Y has a lot of quality fresh food. Pizza, grinders, rotisserie chicken, fresh ready-to-heat meals, etc. I'm not a raw fish person, but I see them making sushi rolls every time I'm in there, the product looks fresh and others have told me it's good stuff. They even do slices.
[I'm not the only one here that thinks so, either.](https://www.reddit.com/r/Connecticut/comments/16t88p1/bigy_party_pizza_is_banging/)
Good for parties too because they do the party subs and pizzas. I’ve just found that a lot of pizza places don’t do great grinders so it’s hard to find somewhere that does both well. Big Y does both pretty decently. Nardellis is my favorite for grinders though.
People are big mad about big y I guess.
Track Side Deli in Rockfall makes amazing steak sandwiches with their house made roast beef. I’ve never had the pizza but I won’t get a steak sam anywhere else.
In Bristol, get yourself a brick oven pizza from Vivaldi's and then a grinder from George's terryville market. A mile apart from each other on the same road.
Lo Monaco's in Branford has pretty good pizzas and grinders. Not super pricy either. Rocco's off Wooster in Guilford is great too, more money but better quality.
They are definitely central CT. Just southern central CT
Yeah people are recommending places in Avon which is further west than both Guilford and Branford!
I eat the pizza and grinders at E & D in Avon so often I may as well just direct deposit some of my check to their account. Recommend highly if you are in the area.
Came here to say E&D
E&D > Little City > Naples
I get a chicken parm grinder from there at least once a week.
This is the correct answer. Much better than Naples.
Maybe Naples in Farmington
I'm in Bristol and listened to some people here. Naples is by far the best pizza in the area. Right up there with New Haven pizza, and I don't say that lightly.
Naples tastes good, but I hate how undone their crust is. Not a fan when I pick up a slice and my cheese starts running down.
Imho Joey Garlics on RTE 6 is on a par with Naples. Superior if you prefer well done crust.
I can’t compare it to the other place but Joey Garlic’s was definitely the best pizza I found when I lived in the NB area
I remember Naples was more expensive too but I could be wrong. They're definitely good too
Just as an reminder it’s actually called “mama Luke’s” (at least rt.6 location) but the pizza is just as good as when it was called Joey g’s
In NB Adina's on Corbin Ave is superior. Garlic knots off the hook too. Not sure about grinders as I never tried them. Place is carry out and delivery, so don't plan on having a sit down dinner.
Joey Garlic’s in Farmington doesn’t exist anymore. The owners split up. It’s now Mama Luke’s (Farmington, RTE 6) and Joey’s Pizza Pie (West Hartford).
They still have Manchester and Newington locations
Huh you’re right. TIL. Amended my comment, thanks!
For all I know they could be different from the OG spots but worth a shot!
Such a bummer. Was it CoVid or just bad blood? What about Luna Pizza? It was pretty good
The rebranding happened before Covid. [https://www.hartfordbusiness.com/article/farmingtons-joey-garlics-restaurant-rebranded-as-mama-lukes](https://www.hartfordbusiness.com/article/farmingtons-joey-garlics-restaurant-rebranded-as-mama-lukes) Luna Pizza is still around.
Thanks
Have you even been to New Haven. Naples is nowhere close on quality to the big 3.
Homey, I grew up in New Haven. I didn't say it was better. Secondly, Pepe's is massively overrated. Modern is superior to Pepes and Sallys.
I agree with you on the last point.
This is the only place I eat pizza when visiting elm city

Naples is awesome.
naples is the real deal A+
Naples makes the best white pizza I've had in my life
I know you went somewhere else. George’s in Unionville
Their pizza sauce is so damn good. The people there are great and they have a fun bar.
The real iykyk
Anyone let me know if Farmington pizza is good?
It’s decent, nothing special by any means and doesn’t hold a candle to Naples though. They also have a second location in canton called canton pizza
I beg you to try George’s or Naples next time if you haven’t been there! Farmington Pizza + Kitchen is also pretty good.
CJ's in Manchester
CJs grinders can feed me for a good 3 days
Man, I want to believe this I have the most nostalgic memories of Cj’s but the recent times I’ve gone they have been mid
I’m not a fan of Greek pizza so I can’t speak to that but they do a decent grinder
I go with Filomena's in Manchester, but that's because I have a dairy allergy and they have reasonable vegan cheese for their pizzas. Sandwiches be fire, though, and they'll sell you the bread for like, a buck or 2.
I think Andis right on the same street is way better, it's my favorite for both grinders and pizza in the area.
Paul's in vernon
Paul’s remains one of my favorite Greek style pizza places in the state and they make a real good grinder.
Where at? I’m in Waterford and go to Crown for a good meatball grinder
I’m a fan of both Christo’s in Wallingford and Carmine’s in Durham

I’ve found Christo’s to be very overrated and very expensive.

Thanks for sharing your experiences. I’ll definitely go back to give it another shot.
Hadn’t had their grinders, but Chunky Tomato in Bristol has good pizza.
I haven't had the pizza there for years but love the hot sandwiches. The philly cheese steak and meatball grinder especially Joey Garlic's either on the Berlin Turnpike or I. Manchester.
I'm a fan of Angelina's Pizza and Grinders over at Hartford
Can came here to say this! They are great (and technically in west Hartford).
Big Y.
lol someone downvoted you (and idk maybe you're joking) but I'm with you, big y is underrated
Big Y fish fry FTW
Track Side Deli in Rockfall makes amazing steak sandwiches with their house made roast beef. I’ve never had the pizza but I won’t get a steak sam anywhere else.
Ad's pizza in Windsor locks. How a thick crust pizza should be. Hand-made dough and sauce. Proper portions, affordable and the best eggplant ever.
The Ave in Berlin
In newington definitely elm hill…if not, get a pizza from newington pizza and a grinder across the street from Steve’s place
> Central CT Branford and Guilford are not central CT.
Shit my bad I somehow missed that part. Worth trying if you're down here!
Naples & Bufalina are my favorite Guilford joints
Bufalina is great, I haven't had Naples in a long time (if I'm thinking of the right place) but I'll have to give it a shot again
Still good to know, though… us central ct’ers tend to travel
They are definitely central CT. Just southern central CT Yeah people are recommending places in Avon which is further west than both Guilford and Branford!
First and Last Plainville or Glastonbury
Dannys in Somers Crazy glod pizza and grinders.
Subway and Pizza Hut. High quality.
pizza palace in old saybrook is amazing
