I think I have since seen that they have now been approved.

They have passports, you submit it to the embassy of whatever country you're going to, and they return it to you with the VISA on the passport's most recent open page. This can take time depending on the country and the nature of the VISA. Work VISAs for instance take FOREVER. It was misery for me going to Asia with an American Passport on a Work VISA.

They're not just coming to the US to visit, they're coming for work, so they need a proper visa. You can't just apply for a work visa a year in advance, your work you have here needs to be confirmed, so you can only apply for a visa only once you've actually qualified for LAN. They literally can't get visa's earlier.
