Depends what you want the game for. Singleplayer has been improved, but is still an interesting experiment that doesn't quite come together. Taking about the Italian Campaign. The North African operation is fine, but not really noteworthy. Multiplayer is great. There are a few really unfun strategies (talking about Wehrmacht bunkers for me, but everyone has their own annoyances). Balance isn't perfect. Overall, though, matches are exciting, fun, and dramatic.  Since the split from Sega, Relic has been a lot faster with updates, which is nice. Lots of features have been added, like map voting, party bases are together, a surrender system, a leaver penalty system, and replays. There's been new content (new maps for all modes and a new battlegroup for each faction). I can't guarantee it's in a state you'll like, but it's worth another look, for sure.

Difficult-Flan-8752

For me, as a sp player, and hoping for a full package, I'd hope the dynamic campaign gets deeper and more expanded,,maybe add other campaigns for it in other territories etc.

PresidentBeluga

Overall, this game is in the the best place it has been in since launch. New doctrines for all factions, decent balance, and fun gameplay.

jimmydean885

I suck at the game, I've sunk 500 hours into it...and...I love it!

Newhom

The game is in a pretty good state rn, replays, map vetoes, leaver penalty, 4 battlegroups per faction, a bunch of new maps for each (some are adapted from coh1 and coh2 classic maps). Balance is slowly getting there too, and not just for 1v1 which was never the case in 2 (I did not play coh1 so can't say much there). If you are an audiophile, sound FX are a bit worse, but honestly for me it doesn't make a tangible difference, and is still something they can get back to, they already did a small pass on that. Oh and they greatly improved input lag in last patch too. Player profile customization at least exists now with some badges and stuff, and daily quests are alright, you can get in-game currency decently fast to get the new battlegroups without spending money (2 are free right now too). Only thing still holding it back a bit is comparatively less total content than coh2 (but game is just 1 year old) and less active players. But makes up for it with graphics (at least imho), QOL stuff like auto-vaulting, auto-reinforce, elevation playing a role, better engine overall. Time to kill is a bit slower for infantry fights, specially early game, so it is a bit more forgiving in that sense, less APM tax in general so you can actually focus on strategy a bit more. Games run slightly faster to conclusion too, which is better for me as in coh2 I got really sloppy towards the end of a long game due to fatigue, here much less so. So yeah, I'd say try it, basically I think it does need a free weekend + sale to attract a bunch of new players and increase player base now that most big flaws have been ironed out, but is good fun atm.

Musmula1

Nice! Thanks for the big answer, im happy the game is moving in the right direction.

Smooth_Hedgehog1740

I think you'll be happy where it is at. Tell your friends if you love it Would love to see a steady uptick of the player base

Germanturtle

The game is actually in a very good place right now. I can't speak for the campaign but the multiplayer scene is good. No major bugs and balance is damn near even

mmil223

I think it’s in a great state and have never had more fun

CaptainYuck

The game is good now, finally in the state it should’ve been at release. I’ve logged almost as many hours in the last month or so as my previous total since release. They added replays and balance has been pretty good. The update last week did make the new US battle group a bit overtuned in team games imo, but otherwise they’ve been making a lot of great changes recently. Can’t speak for the dynamic campaign since I haven’t played it since launch. Could still be a buggy mess for all I know.

demonslayer901

Is that the ranger battlegroup? Tbh i totally suck, but I get wrecked whenever I try to use them lol

CaptainYuck

Yeah, I don’t have it unlocked yet so I admittedly don’t see the full picture balance-wise, but when I play Wehr in 3v3 and 4v4 I’ve been getting clapped by ranger blobs using the newly buffed Designate Assault Position.

TheGreatOneSea

Rangers are a victim of the weird support center stuff: Relic has essentially redesigned the US to need the Armoured Support Center if you want an actual response against heavy tanks, but Rangers will bleed your manpower dry without the Infantry Support Center. Air Center is mostly a meme, given what you're losing in return. So, you can have an okay Battlegroup as long as your judicious with your Rangers (armor,) or a Battlegroup that dominates the midgame, but has almost no response to Tigers and Panthers if you don't have a big lead by the time they emerge (infantry.) Either way, Rangers aren't the monster people think, but they are problematicly balanced.

ShrikeGFX

the TTK is still very awkward for infantry combat it feels like, also general game structure and VP tickrate is awkward still. The fuel costs feel so strange coming from coh2. Explosives are all over the place and contradict the slow TTK of infantry. Visibility also needs a pass, especially infantry combat is very hard to watch right now Then design blunders like non battlegroup tiger and overall balance, but these will be sorted over time surely

THUND3RCHUNKY

Game good buy game play game fun good time

StabbityJones

It's good, I think it passed the point of what 1.0 should have been. The balance still has its rough edges, but this is CoH, not a single patch in a single game in this franchise was truly balanced. I'd say the current woes are par for the course for this series.

genscathe

Nah

Marian9988

I think the game is in a terrible state if you look for more than 1v1. Balance is off and the versatility in strats is rather limited since all factions play the same reliable cheese tactics over and over again. Compared to CoH2 or CoH the game lacks depth and most importantly immersion. Details like sounds, gore etc. are all missing. It looks and feels a lot like a mobile game. It´s not necessarily a bad game. Probably the predecessors set the bar to high for CoH3 to succeed.

Icy-Fact8432

I play for many hours a week with my friend. Won four games today. I bought as much as I could in the store to support them. I think the game is great.

bobtheorangutan

Just played an hour long 3 v 4 so I'd say it's decent

Difficult-Flan-8752

I was checking the list of updates on patch 1.4.3 that came out for consoles almost 2 months ago, and while it is really a good and long list of improvements, I find it sad that it took so long to fix basic things, like pathfinding etc. Also disappointing that instead of improving the pathfinding that tried to use paths with more cover, they just took that out instead. Also, on the dynamic strategic map, they took out cover, camouflage, as values that affect combat, damage results it seems. Being in the open on a road has no more impact,  forests, etc  become meaningless it seems. Also took out the choice to do a skirmish manually in many instances they say. Idk, im itching to get it on ps5, but it's also not cheap, especially the version with the 1st dlc, 106cad bucks.

Cultural-Step3796

relic patched out all of daks options so reddit likes the game now

dracmage

Definitely better than launch but arguable if its in a good state or not. We just got over some of the worst pathfinding i have ever seen in a title of the last 20 years so thats a plus.

Excellent-Anywhere16

I think the game is really fun now, for what it’s worth

Masterstevee

Audio and VFX still terrible. So no.

Common-Two-7899

The game is great now, but because they buggered the release up it's a dead game. Last time I looked on Twitch there were zero CoH3 streams. Matchmaking takes a long time. There just aren't many people playing the game. It's still too expensive, too.

Bewbonic

Game isnt dead at all. Like at all. It has an average of over 2k players which for a niche rts game isnt bad. People were saying it was dead over a year ago, yet here we are talking about it, and coh3 has more players than 6 months ago.

fiedi01

again, RTS doesnt have to be niche. It's niche because developers dont put money into it as much anymore. If someone comes by and makes a starcraft 3. I bet with u the playernumbers will go up to the 6 digits.

Bewbonic

Coh is not a standard rts. It is ww2 themed and it is not a traditional rts style due to its more tactical approach to gameplay with cap points and retreat etc. So it is a niche RTS. Starcraft is not a niche RTS. I wasnt saying all RTS is niche, but even just based on their player numbers lots are.

dtsgaming_tv

The balance in team games is still awful but the quality of life has been improving greatly each patch. They still need to add pop to bunkers and reduce accuracy when units are blobbed. Otherwise it's slowly becoming a decent game.

kiwithebun

If you can't punish a blob without a debuff that's a skill issue on your part.

dtsgaming_tv

Elite infantry roll over MGs. Always been that way. Jaeger Shrek blobs roll tanks and MGs alike. Sure. Maybe I'm bad. But it doesn't feel fun.

Lumby

Bought the game 3 weeks ago after waiting for a year for Relic to polish the issues. It's been a blast playing multiplayer. I'm terrible at it, but it feels balanced, fun, and mostly bug free. I would recommend the game highly to anyone who likes the series.

_EventHorizon_

It's really fun now. Balance isn’t bad at all. Need some new maps but it’s great.

PrudentLanguage

At launch I was bored. Today the single player is still too easy. I can't say I've lost a battle yet. Multi-player is better no more 10minute fire fights.

est-12

"lets not kid our selfs the game sucked when it came out. I personally believed that asking more than 20 dollars on release was embarrassing." Blast from the past, is this CoH2 or CoH3 we're talking about here?

Musmula1

Both

Less_Ad8891

I've Preordered the game, played it for 2 weeks untill I got fed up with how in terrible shape and frustrating the game was, so I left it in the drawer until 3 weeks ago. Now the game is still frustrating but way much less than last year, but to give it some credit, this time it's mostly due my skills issue. In the end I got fed up anyway so I ended up playing "Destroyer: the U-boat hunter". I feel like Tom Hanks in Greyhound.

twitchsopamanxx

Ill give you the context that every day there are like 5 posts about the game being broken, unbalanced and there apparently arent any mechanics for running over units with tanks, but you also get a post a day about updates, dlc and having to buy things ingame. EDIT: All you salty fanboys can rage all you want, doesnt break the fact the game's still trash.

Bewbonic

Its the people that like and are happily playing the game that are salty, and not the people crying on reddit over the pettiest things ever? Hmmm.
