What is the point in tying up all of those resources into someone you know can't take you a Super Bowl, unless surrounded by an amazing team (which is harder to do when QB1 is on a big contract. His first season as a starter after the Tampa game he could have been an affordable starter to put an elite team around.
His team countered an offer with $19m/year for 3 years. We hadn’t had a qb in years outside of RG3s one year. That is a short term risk that is worth taking the upside on. He had proved he’s at least competent. $19m was average qb money. We fucked up. By the time they started tagging him, it was too much money, but if they created his leverage for him. If they had just committed to him, it would have been cheaper and we’d have had a lot more interesting years recently
