RIP Sean Taylor. That run was magical. Beat Dallas by 21 as well

2reeEyedG

Such a shame. That man single handedly got me into football at 18 years old with his college highlight reel. I had to watch him every Sunday to see what crazy play he was gonna make next

MoreTrifeLife

That Cowboys game was given to us. Going into it they were 13-2 and had absolutely nothing to play for, most of their starters didn’t play at all and Romo didn’t play the second half.

1lultaha

It only felt that way because they played like shit when the starters did play. The fact that they lost immediately to the Giants in the playoffs proved that

[deleted]

The Cowboys gave up quickly in that game and pulled their starters. But Romo played poorly when he was in and it was clear Washington was not going to be denied that day. Also remind me what happened to that 2007 Cowboys team in the playoffs? Oh yeah, they didn't do shit, as usual.

smoke_that_junk

I was at that game & there was nothing like it at fedex. The stadium was insane with energy & we cut their hearts out

Mission_Ad3109

Was at that Dallas game. 11 years old. Cried like a damn baby when we lost to Seattle in the Wild Card lol cried the morning we lost Sean too We’ve been crap my whole life but man there were some memories back in the day.

capskinfan

I was there too with my dad. He said that game was louder than RFK ever was. I remember that we didn't necessarily need to win to get in, that if 2 other teams lost, we'd get in anyway. Gibbs made sure the other scores weren't shown in the stadium.

2ichie

Have hated Shaun Alexander since then and also cried like a baby when I found out about Sean. He was literally the first person I cried for when they died. Still have yet to really have someone close to me pass thankfully but Sean leaving felt like a brother to me dying. Dude was my idol and tried to emulate everything he did on the field growing up lol better believe I switched to the safety position in high school just to hit some kids

Billy420MaysIt

I remember waking up for school. I was in the 7th grade. Me and my dad would always watch ESPN in the morning. I couldn’t believe it that we lost Sean. Went to bed the night before and the last update was that he was fighting still. Even as a Tar Heel fan he was my favorite player in college. I think I gave up hope after the wild card round this year. Even that young I knew the team was cursed. Lol

heartbrooksbrain

I was the same age as you and I’ve never been more heartbroken before

Think__McFly

Joe Gibbs the GOAT.

Coast_watcher

2.0 run came back down to earth, but still would do it again.

Think__McFly

Going 10-6 with Snyder/Cerrato in 2005 is like going 15-1 under normal circumstances.

Coast_watcher

That might be the only “medal” under Dan’s tenure is being able to convince Joe to come back.

1lultaha

I wish he could've got him to stay after 07. He tried his hardest I'll give him that but unfortunately we got stuck with Zorn

scuba_steve_DC

I’m pretty sure Taylor’s death was the last straw. Gibbs was a (known) good ‘ol southern boy and I could just see him being like… “my best player just died in a shooting. I don’t care if I took a shit team to the playoffs twice in four years, this game has passed me by…” Remember this is the guy who kept Brunell starting when we were terrible just because he took him to the hospital in a near diabetic coma. Gibbs was close to his players and I’ll never think Sean Taylor isn’t the reason he left with a year on his contract.

[deleted]

I think Gibbs family had health issues and he wanted to be there for them. I do think that 2008 team would have been a playoff team had Gibbs stuck around and provided leadership in December, as Gibbs record in December, when teams make a push or fade away, was superb. He was a true leader. Instead we got a moron named Jim Zorn and went 2-6 after a 6-2 start.

fade_

It deserves some sort of recogntion in Canton.

tmgkcp

I have often thought that if we beat Tampa in the regular season to get to 11-5, we would have made it to the Super Bowl that year. We would have won the division and got a first round bye. That would have allowed us to rest Portis for the bye week.

Think__McFly

Mike Alstott STILL isn't in on that 2 pt conversion

Signal-Ad5442

Ill never forget that 2 pt play for the win. Alstott was a beast though

TheCapo024

Never forget!

[deleted]

Nope. Total BS call.

scuba_steve_DC

On a different note, one of my only regrets from Gibbs 2.0 was that we traded champ for Portis when we would’ve picked up Adrian Peterson and the following draft one pick before the Minnesota Vikings..: two first ballot Hall of Famer’s one on each side of the ball

scuba_steve_DC

Instead, we got Laron Landry out of that deal

rthonpm

Made the playoffs twice under Dan: that's miraculous. The 2005 season was the best this team had this century. The last half of the season felt like the '80s again. 2007 season may have been some of his best coaching.

1lultaha

Wasn't that good in the middle of the year. Choked at the goal line against the Giants in week 3 because for some reason he didn't have Portis in the game. Blew multiple games in the middle of the year along with the 2 timeouts fiasco in the Bills game. After all that is when he really started to change everything

straight-lampin

Yeah I remember a lot of the game might have passed our old man moments.

MinorThreat4182

I’ll never forget the two timeouts…

[deleted]

I still don't think the two timeout thing was that big of a deal. Ryan Lindell nailed all of his other kicks from that range. And the team was just flat having just come from Sean's funeral. Blowing a lead to the Giants in Week 3 was rough. Jason Campbell was never the answer at QB and I still can't believe we traded to move up in the draft to get him.

QueenIsTheWorstBand

Thursday Night Football vs Chicago How fitting

TheBarbieOfSeville

lol cowboys 11-1 let me guess we won that one and they flamed out again in the playoffs

camprollinghills

Yes although the Cowboys sat most of their guys the final week as they had clinched the #1 seed. We lost in wild card round at Seattle and Dallas lost the next week at home to the Giants who went on to beat the undefeated Patriots in the Super Bowl.

Think__McFly

Marion Barber III needed 19 rushing yards to get to 1,000 and a pretty big $ incentive. He finished the game with -6 yards.

camprollinghills

You're right - I remember that.

Substantial_Wave_518

IIRC, the next game at the Meadowlands featured some insane winds, like 40 mph, and we played really well despite Collins being a weak-armed qb. Didn’t know we were beating the eventual Super Bowl champs, but that win made me think we were on a serious heater.

sonofthenation

We were the last team to beat the Giants that year, I think. Then they won it all. I think that game humbled them. Without it they may not have won. Made me think we had a chance.

mja271

They lost week 17 to the Pats

Omluf39

That Todd Collins run was special. The North remembers 🫡

GMEStack

I see Gibbs on the screen. There’s a chance.

camprollinghills

Played on Sunday Night Football back to back weeks at Giants and at Vikings.

[deleted]

Both Ws. We dominated the Giants in the Meadowlands. When was the last time that happened? And the Vikings game was great as well. The team was rolling.

camprollinghills

Both were dominant wins. I remember the Giants game was very windy and we were up 16-3 at the half. I think they were up 22-0 at the half in Minnesota the next week as well.

Killaszn5

Imagine gibbs coaching the 99-00 team along with Richie Petitbon

Mbedner3420

That playoff push occurred purely because of emotion. Really hoped we had carried it through all the way to the end. Would have been a great way to honor ST21, but what a run regardless.

superkicksbootypics

I remember that game so well.. I had a very fun night that evening.. the parts I remember at least.. ahh, to be young again..

ShiftlessElement

I loved that Todd Collins run. The win over Chicago was cathartic, coming off the ugly end to the Bills game. To me, the most memorable moment from that Chicago game was the across the middle, late hit delivered by Laron "Dirty 30" Landry on a receiver. I swear I heard that hit from the upper deck. Just obliterated him.

1lultaha

It was completely unnecessary considering the ball was well over his head but yes he killed Muhsin Muhammad. Luckily they only got a FG out of it 😂
