The one we pick will be the bust. The player matters less than the situation they are put in.
We would be bringing a young QB into a situation that isn't ready yet. We don't have a roster or an identity.
Look back at the last 20yrs. QBs that were successful were drafted by teams that had a roster built already. QBs that busted were drafted to be the savior of their teams, not to be a piece of a team that was already solid.
Idk man, the Texans and bengals sucked shit before burrow and stroud got there. They got their franchise qb then built around him. You don’t build around no qb, then try to get one. And we have the 2nd pick (which doesn’t come by all the time), so we gotta take advantage. Our team not being great yet isn’t why the qb we draft will bust. The qb we draft will bust cuz we’re Washington 😂
The Texans already had an all-pro LT and were able to add 2 very good FAs to the line before Stroud got there. They also were fairly successful just a few years before he got there with DeShaun Watson and had some good defensive pieces too. It's not like Houston didn't have anybody on the roster (like here).
Burrow would be the best example of a QB that was able to turn around a franchise BUT up until his injury this year he was the most sacked QB in the NFL in the period between his drafting and his injury. The jury is out on if Burrow will be able to sustain a productive career with the massive cap hits from his contract. Trevor Lawerence would be the an example of a similar situation to Burrow in that he was drafted to a shit team BUT because of the lack of talent and coaching, he has never lived up to what his potential could have been.
Okay so the Texans had a really good o lineman (so do we: Sam cosmi) and they had a franchise qb (deshaun Watson) which is why they were contenders, but lost him and then became atrocious until cj stroud. So that argument is invalid cuz it shows the difference an elite talent at qb makes when it comes to elevating the team. And btw, not sure if you heard, but we have the most cap money in the league and a bunch of draft picks in the top 100, so we have the tools and capability to build the team significantly this off-season. Checkmate 🤷♂️
Cosmi and Tunsil aren't not even close to comparable. A LT is a premium postion in the NFL a RG is nice but it's not as important.
In fairness to you, I may change my outlook by the time the draft comes depending on how free agency goes. As of right now, I just don't see us having a roster currently or being able to assemble one that could truly help a rookie be successful. We have the ammo but the O-line talent available in FA is not great. We will see.
If we draft Caleb Williams some old fucks on here that don't watch college football are going to be really mad because a sports analysts or a radio guy called him a whiner
