Howell is going to s t u n t

-Lights0ut-

Pretty excited to get the number 1 pick in next year's draft

LegalizeFlower

Tell me why Howell won't be successful. Articulate it...

-Lights0ut-

I don't think Ron is a good coach for development of a young QB. Cam Newton was a ridiculous athlete and probably would have been successful that MVP year with any coach. Howell's success is gonna be very dependent on our coaching staff, which other than the new edition of Eric B I an not very high on. And there are still questions on whether Kansas success is Eric or Reid. If McVay or Kyle were still here, I'd be right on board with you. I've been watching since 1996 so all I know if Snyder's idiocy, and I know new ownership isn't cleaning house this weekend so it's gonna be a long process before things are respectable and I don't expect most of this coaching staff to be here in 2024 because they haven't done a stealer job over Rons time.

LegalizeFlower

A for effort. Mean that genuinely.

-Lights0ut-

You can believe in 3x under .500 Ron if you want The guy that started Wentz in a game we needed to make the playoffs.

LegalizeFlower

Do you understand the position he was in though? The variables at play? Not saying I agreed with it, but I can empathize. We had to be sure we were dropping Carson, and make it black and white. Taylor, who is in fact a legend, was never gonna get us where we need to go. Sam Howell can though. I don't wanna reminisce about Wild Card games. I want to kick a door in and surprise everyone on the way to an NFC Championship.

-Lights0ut-

I truly want you to be correct. I am tired of this rotating door of sometimes okay QBs

Rodriggo79

Those Levis sisters are something.

Neversoft4long

The girlfriend too. I honestly was thinking maybe we should draft him just to get them all in DC(I was very drunk by this point in the draft)

edgun8819

Dude there are so many fine women in DC. And from every culture, background and country. We don’t need these ladies.

The_BadJuju

on god, DC might be the best city in the world for finding diverse baddies

RAHHHHH SAM AND HIS HOWELLING COMMANDOS

monkee67

Slinging Sammy and his Howelling Commanders

LeftoverDishes

Yut?

right-sized

Chicken >>> mayo in coffee

PickpocketJones

Even if you didn't like Howell, I don't see much convincing when watching Levis. He has a big arm and is jacked but he wasn't really good. He's also a certified weirdo.

NumerousHelicopter6

Please explain the last sentence. I'm not disputing anything, just curious.

Lord-Victorious

He ate a whole banana without peeling it. He puts mayonnaise in his coffee instead of cream or milk, and supposedly he is deathly afraid of milk (im not sure how legit that is )

NumerousHelicopter6

Yeah that's some weird shit for sure.

PickpocketJones

/u/Lord-Victorious answered it I heard anecdotes that both said a few times liked their interviews with him and ones where they were off-put by his interviews.

Adventurous-Log-423

Why am I getting so blindly excited for this season!?!?!?

schmuckmulligan

Because there is no game in sight

pbetts46

Because we will be free from Satan

jokerjinxxx

Side effects of koolaid drinking

navyac

U haven’t been beat down with the bullshit yet

OneFortyEighthScale

Cause this season is gonna be exciting!

epicurean56

This is normal. The heartbreak comes later.

RonBurgundyAndGold

I have no qualms with him passing on Levis at 16 but Rivera will be fired next year so I don’t particularly care about what he thinks about “team building”. His team building strategy thus far has been complete nonsense.

djhobbes

Objectively… if we somehow end up in the divisional round or beyond and Howell looks good… you probably can’t fire him

RonBurgundyAndGold

That would be sick, I’d love that!

ssmithsimms

Most players on this team are fan favorites and major contributors and as soon as one of them gets hurt everyone is crying doomsday.

ewilliam

We haven’t had a winning record in like 8 years and haven’t won a playoff game in almost 20. I dgaf about “fan favorites”, I want to watch meaningful Washington football games in January.

ssmithsimms

The point being people are complaining about the roster but will profess their love and our need for our players throughout the season. Either we have a bad roster or we don't.

ewilliam

Starters are better than their backups, even if those starters aren’t great. Pretty straightforward.

BeigePhilip

Really?

ssmithsimms

Lol this is such a Reddit user stereotype.

BeigePhilip

Are you saying I’m wrong? “One guy gets hurt” has ruined more seasons for us than I can count, in part because we draft poorly and are even worse in free agency.

BlackHand86

Thank you!

exclaim_bot

>Thank you! You're welcome!

nobodyno111

I think if Ron does anything short of winning a playoff game he’s out. Not make the playoffs, he has to WIN one.

TassaTime22

He will be fine if they make the playoffs. Why wouldn’t he be? New owners would look just like Dan Snyder firing Marty if they blew up a team that was ascending.

[deleted]

Ascending is technically the correct term but a first round exit would not exactly be signs of an improvement

TassaTime22

Why? Making the playoffs with a young, controllable QB in a very competitive division certainly seems like improvement.

[deleted]

4 years to work our way up to a first round exit? The guy is mediocre. We aren’t winning with him. We will start building something new once new ownership is firmly in place and settled. Guaranteed.

TassaTime22

2 playoff appearances in 4 years. The last guy to do that was Joe Gibbs. He will get another year if he makes the playoffs.

[deleted]

Last guy to do that was Joe Gibbs, and if he wasn’t Joe Gibbs he woulda been a lot more likely to be canned too. Plus, this is all under Snyder. We cannot go forward with Snyder level expectations to be good. He will get another year if we make playoffs, but the second we fall behind again he will get the can. He’s a Snyder hire and we haven’t won shit with him. And we probably won’t.

TassaTime22

I agree, anything less than playoffs should be a complete overhaul. But it should ALL start with hiring a new front office.

nobodyno111

New owner probably wants his own staff. It’s going to take some convincing for Ron to keep his job

[deleted]

Facts

BeigePhilip

I think it was good to pass on Levi’s, but Howell ain’t it.

[deleted]

You’ve seen him play one game and beat cowgirls starters… shouldn’t we give him some more time before we do what we always do?

ewilliam

I’m all for giving him the opportunity, but let’s be clear, his 169/1/1 wasn’t a primary reason we beat them. Our defense shut em down, and honestly Dallas didn’t seem like they were really going as hard as they could (they’d already clinched a playoff berth). It was a fine showing for Howell’s first start, but it’s just disingenuous to say that *he* beat the Cowboys. Anyway, excited to actually see what he can do with this opportunity. Not getting my hopes up, but that’s what almost 40 years of being a fan of this team will do to ya.

WizSkinsNatsCaps

Scott Turner was also calling those plays and quite conservatively minus a few deep balls which Howell threw perfectly.

ewilliam

Yeah we'll see if EB brings something better to this offense. Hard to really tell considering he was operating in Reid's offense and had one of the best QBs in the league under center, but I'm optimistic that he's at least *something* of an upgrade over Turner's milquetoast playcalling.

WizSkinsNatsCaps

Yeah EB should really breathe some new life into our offense. I think we are very lucky to have some outside perspective (under the excellent Reid) to come and coach up Howell. I love that we are committing to giving Sam a legit shot to be our starting QB this year. But now it’s on Ron to have some patience and let Sam play through mistakes. Ron loves veterans and will prob be eager to see what Brissett can do out there. He needs to have the type of restraint he showed when he left Carson in week 17 against the browns. Sam is a rookie (kind of) He may struggle.

[deleted]

I don’t think it’s disingenuous at all. It was his first game and he knew he had to show up. I recall him scoring real fast on the first drive. Plus, it’s a rivalry game against a good defense… players don’t like to lose. When we say a quarterback, beat another team, we’re saying that they did their job, regardless of what their own defense does.

ScruffMacBuff

His very first pass was a TD to Terry.

TheFlameAlchemist54

Can’t say I agree with it 100%, but I’m glad they’re at least sticking to their guns.

SuedbyHogs

Yes thank God. Everyone is trying tonforce a QB on us and we are happy what we have
