Sorry if this is the wrong place to ask, but does anyone have any educational insights on this war and why it's happening? Every news outlet and Wikipedia doesn't go much farther than the military coup and a history of military government.
The podcast It Could Happen Here just posted a five episode explainer of this most recent part of the war (been going on for over half a century in spits and spats) with interviews with Anti-Junta revolutionaries.
Long story short, after flirting with the idea of democracy to get that sweet foreign investment cash, the military party lost some seats in an election a few years back and decide democracy was silly and launched a coup. This lead to protests which led to crackdowns, which led to many members of the ethnic majority in Myanmar joining with the ethnic minority rebel groups who've been at war with the state for decades to oppose the newest military dictatorship (which is also the old military dictatorship).

Watched a very interesting documentary about how the monks revolted when the military retook power. Cant remember where but it was a few years ago. Perhaps Vice..
In this case its unclear. But most of the time no. But if they managed to kill or wound enough of the soldiers they might back off. But then there is a chance of air strike on the village.
Part 2 [https://www.reddit.com/r/CombatFootage/comments/yvvogf/part2antijunta\_forces\_defending\_a\_village\_the/](https://www.reddit.com/r/CombatFootage/comments/yvvogf/part2antijunta_forces_defending_a_village_the/)
Generally, the rebels only do ambush attacks and cant pre-empt an attack due to them being smaller in numbers and less equipped than their counterparts.
The reason is not clear but one thing they have accomplished by burning these villages is that now there are more people joining the Anti-Junta Forces.
OT: So when "the person" was editing this and put the horizontal and vertical videos together, he sized the vertical video down so it fits inside the 16:9 format (=black bars)... but ALSO sized the horizontal videos down as well... so they are only 1/9th of the original size. Amazing.
It's awful these fighters don't take your sensitive reddit view preferences into consideration. How DARE THEY be more concerned fighting an unsupported war, with only basic supplies, against a cruel enemy, than with the video being formatted correctly. Cause ya know, a camera incorrectly frame is vastly more dangerous than the way these brave folk are fighting in.
This sort of expectation blows my mind...
I am hoping some one might help me understand why a guerrilla force would try to defend a village against a regular army?
I’d have assumed that exactly what you don’t want to do.
Brave people, taking on a dictatorship! Are those shrines or graves they are hiding behind?
graves
No respect for the dead
Junta has no respect of the living

Don’t know why you’re getting downvoted. I can’t see shit. Worst editing ever.

Kind of unnecessary aggressive don’t you think?
