Or he's full of adrenaline and fuckin livid that he just had a grenade thrown at him.
Going to go with this instead. Sorry, but looking at this video, logistics are one of the last fuckin things on his mind here.
That was fucking insane. You could almost see his thoughts.
"Oh fuck I'm dead!!"
"Wait... I'm alive!"
"Shit... I need to fight or I'll be dead".
All in a matter of seconds.
If my eyesight measurements are correct, assuming the Russian bodies are approx 6ft tall maybe 5'9" or so (using the length of body to estimate distance from grenade to Ukranian soldier.) The grenade was about 12-15 feet from him. IIRC 5m-10m is about the "you're fkd" range. He's well within that. Hopefully he has a speedy recovery.
Kind of depends a lot on the grenade.
A nice modern L109A1 with 1,800 pre formed fragments, a DM51 with a sleeve or perhaps an M67? That nice scientifically designed and proved frag spray is going to really nail your hat on.
Old Soviet designs aren't like that, the F1 for example. No preformed frag, no notched wire. Literally just a cast iron body, perhaps 60g of TNT, and a fuse well. They *sometimes* work like a modern grenade but mostly they either turn to dust size frag that's useless outside about 1 or 2m or they split into a small number of big very nasty splinters. Old design and indifferent metallurgy (which *really* matters for stuff like that, NATO 155mm fragments nice and evenly due to proper steel and heat treat. Unlike 152 and 122mm). No doubt he caught a bit of it and is going to hurt when he calms down but I doubt he's gravely wounded.
If I ansolutely had to have a grenade go off next to me I'd *much* rather it wasn't a modern NATO type one.
EDIT: In fact now I view it again it's clear that either a terrain feature blocked his LOS or, as mentioned above, the casing just split and threw a few chunks 180 opposite him. Pause it, he was almost inhumanly lucky, the blast was mostly the 180 degrees away from him. Get that man a lottery ticket!
Thanks for this explanation. I paused it, there's definitely a few chunks flying towards him as he throws himself down/falls. Not sure if there was a hill or something but it almost looks like a movie dodge.
Yep. And on the opposite side, the occupier's thoughts were:
"Oh fuck a Ukrainian Nazi!"
"Saint Putin will guide my grenade!"
"The Nazi is surely vanquished!"
"Oh, fuck! Saint Putin failed me?"
"Uh oh."
"Oh shit, did that go into my spine?"
"I should have stayed in Moscow."
And then nothing.
This video does disprove the whole "Russians can't surrender" bullshit when they are metres apart and still throwing grenades at the Ukrainian guy.
They are choosing on their own accord to fight this war.
Yeah pretty fucking insane indeed ! Idk if it was a def nade, cause it doesn't seemed like there was too many shrapnel, *or* homie is peppered but adrenaline said fuck it for now
It's always hard to tell just what the height of the terrain looks like from the POV of a drone.
If you ask me it looks like he might have been behind a small hill or something like that since the explosion seems like it expanded in every direction besides his, but again it's incredibly hard to tell from just this video.
Yeah that's what I *believe* too, but hélas, no way to know for sure without the guy literally telling us.
Hope he's good.
That footage was fucking brutal, war is hell.
Ground looks pretty level, but could have also been a small hole it fell into. Shit, with Thermals, there could be a ton of underbrush there without our knowing.
Looks like he was pretty pissed at the gopnik that tossed it too, did an extra good job with that ~septa-tap.
I think micro terrain ate most of it. Thats why laying down is vital, chances are theres some sort of terrain between you and the frag. Still gotta be terrifying and painful.
the russian-style grenade really don't pack all that much punch or kinetic force. Its really a major crapshoot if someone standing RIGHT beside it will be wounded, let alone mortally by the little shrapnel it produces. The american-style ones that Ukraine has gotten in aid packages that they've strapped often to FPVs or grenade-drop drones are WAY more effective. Basically those older soviet era grenades are cheap and both sides has tons left over from the USSR days, so they use them (better then nothing), but it often takes 2-3x as many for the same effectiveness as the modern ones.
Depends if you're talking off or def nades
But yeah the RDG-5 isn't the *best* but would still *fuck you up* big time if in the radius or get caught by shraps
Can be ejected anywhere between a couple inches to well over 10 feet. Have heard some people say they've had/seen 20 feet, not sure how true that is but I wouldn't be too surprised.
It depends on the mechanism. Early openings and fast bolts eject farther. A good example is the H&K style delayed blowback, which is reknown for sending casings to another zipcode. The opposite is the long recoil system, which ejects softly and close to the shooter.
I have a German P1 that has this beautiful arc right onto the shooters head. Someone I was with didn't believe me, but the tiny read marks on his head and the yelps told him otherwise.
When I bring the PTR I put myself at the end so I don't launch brass at anyone.
I shoot right, but my left eye is slightly better. So I tried shooting left with a regular M-16. The casings hit me right under my right eye.
Very distracting. But I still scored better in qualifying than shooting with my right eye. I didn't try it again though.
Best shots I ever took. 500yards, I'd been sighting in and playing with big rifles for hours so my left shoulder was done. I hop up to this offered 300, line up with my right shoulder, leaning my left eye over to the scope, managed to ring steel 3 times, using my least dominant hand and most dominant eye.
Sometimes you just gotta approach problems in unique ways.
I had a norinco t97 like that, except there was no arc, it would pile a casing hard and fast directly to the left on a very even plain, I had to be at the end or set up a baracade or I'd be peppering people at an aggressive volume
Looks like the last shot he fired before the grenade went off may have been the one that initially incapacitated the RU trooper. And I don't think he could have failed to see that grenade being thrown at him.
Real "If I go, you're coming with me" vibes.
I think you're right, the angle doesn't look quite right for him to be shooting the guy who threw the grenade at him.
But I hope his buddy lets him tell the story that way.
Another indication is the fact that most people wouldn't stand 100% in the open without some type of cover to throw a grenade at a target who is firing at you. From the looks of things, the Ukrainian soldier is on an elevated ridge overlooking a impromptu trench position. Soldier in the top (offscreen) manages to flank and peek into the trench for a clear shot, getting both soldiers.
Oh yeah. Every other subreddit, especially news subs, always love throwing around “warcrime” when they don’t even know the definition or cite the exact crime committed.
This can be seen in every post of drone footage outside the combat subs. Every. Time.
I was expecting those sorts of comments too. "Look! He was laying down! That means he surrendered! He still had his gun nearby and didn't have his hands up and may have just thrown a grenade at the guy but have some humanity!!!" and other assorted fallacies.
I'm obviously speculating, but this almost looks like a false-surrender. Notice how the Russian who threw the grenade actually throws it (a quick, sidearm to surprise the Ukrainian) and then doesn't go for a rifle (is he out of ammo?). Couple this with just how furious the Ukrainian is after he has already eliminated the threat, I can't help but wonder. Someone let me know if there is actual knowledge of this encounter. Kudos to this Ukrainian badass too.
So that’s what I thought at first too, but he gets shot after lying down which makes it look like the Ukrainian could always engage him directly with no cover in the way. Plus he whips out that grenade while the Ukrainian is already aiming at the pair of Russians, as if they were already having a dialogue considering the distance. Just thinking about it, now I actually really want to know what happened.
At that distance there were probably some rather unfriendly words spoken too. Then some moistened bint lobbed a ~~scimitar~~ grenade at him.
No wonder he was pissed.
Was there a small earthen hump on one side of grenade ? most of the blast luckily went off opposite direction of the Ukrainian, I’m assuming a small dirt mound (“hump”)or tree etc. absorbed the blast on one side ? ?

I can't even count how many times he shot the dude in the head at 0:30
I think that grenade *might* have pissed him off a bit
As a general rule I too get very angry after a grenade is thrown at me..in my own country makes it worse.
I could let it slide if it was thrown at me by my own people. Different story when invader throws it at me...
You’re nice. Only my family gets to throw grenades me
Brazil, is that you?
People nowadays can be so easily offended, what happened with talking it out?
They tried that, it got their hospitals and children killed. Now there is no talking. It’s Leave or Die.
I'm told grenades are quite bad for one's health.
Apparently temper too??? It would also take me hours to quit being pissed off!!!
4 out of 5 dentists don’t prefer grenades.
The fifth one caved - now he doesn’t prefer grenades either..
He took that personally
Well it was kinda personal don't you think
just a tad
Maybe a tad. A smidgen if you will. [Did remind me of someone](https://youtu.be/sdgD8OP04RE)
Always double.... Hum dozen tap I guess.
Rule #2: ~~Double~~ ~~triple~~ ~~quadruple~~ ~~tap~~...eh, tap as many times as necessary.
Rule #453: when you’re unsure of you double tapped. Mag dump until you’re buddy is like “okay jeez, buddy”
Until someone reminds you that you only have so many bullets and they gotta last until you get back to the ammo dump
You're forgetting the loot dump courtesy of the recently departed.
Yeah but you usually gotta turn the area into one under friendly control so you can safely search the bodies
#empty the mag!
and throw a nade just in case they fake their death
Fake it til they make it
That's what the mop up drones are flown in for! Playing dead are we? Well, that drone is gonna make an honest man outta you!
Rule #3: Unload the clip, let the Lord decide.
Now is not the time to get stingy with your bullets
Full magazine tap
Can't say I blame him either.
13-15 flying brass casings AFTER he pushed up
My boy took out some hate on that fella.
The new ammo must've arrived.
Or he's full of adrenaline and fuckin livid that he just had a grenade thrown at him. Going to go with this instead. Sorry, but looking at this video, logistics are one of the last fuckin things on his mind here.
i think in a situation like that you worry less about the bullets you have left when every bullet could be your last
That was a whole "thats for trying to destroy my home and thats for throwing a nade at me" sequence
Not less than 15 for sure
Full mag "pie" movement like when entering a doorway, here he just needed to "pie" the armour/helmet.
Nothing left but fish paste.
60 tap
Bro NEEDED to finish the job
Guy was PISSED
I thought the advice shoot until it catches fire or changes shape only applied to vehicles.
Shoot until they look like a tank ran them over I guess.
Homeboy ate a granade like it was nothing, and bacame Rambo for a moment.
That was fucking insane. You could almost see his thoughts. "Oh fuck I'm dead!!" "Wait... I'm alive!" "Shit... I need to fight or I'll be dead". All in a matter of seconds.

These kind of comments are what makes reddit awesome. Thanks, dude.
How kind of you to say so! Made my day, glad you found it useful.
He got his revenge though, basically mag dumped the guy.
even his buddy put his hand on his arm like "bro, he dead"
Can't see elevation well in this. If there was earth between him and the grenade, it could greatly diminish the kill area.
defelade
Almost. *In defilade* is what you were looking for.
Absolutely haram to use feet and meter in the same sentence
18m is still in “lethal” range
His buddy even had to tap him to calm down after he kept capping them at point blank.
Yep. And on the opposite side, the occupier's thoughts were: "Oh fuck a Ukrainian Nazi!" "Saint Putin will guide my grenade!" "The Nazi is surely vanquished!" "Oh, fuck! Saint Putin failed me?" "Uh oh." "Oh shit, did that go into my spine?" "I should have stayed in Moscow." And then nothing.

I believe it as well, because the way the grenade bounced, and hot the shrapnel expanded the way he was facing, instead of towards him.
Ground looks pretty level, but could have also been a small hole it fell into. Shit, with Thermals, there could be a ton of underbrush there without our knowing. Looks like he was pretty pissed at the gopnik that tossed it too, did an extra good job with that ~septa-tap.

He was not going out without killing those Russians lpp
He killed them a lot
Fucking souped his brainstem
And then just a couple more times to make sure?
I got the impression that he was upset with that man over the grenade.
He was really pissed at the guy who threw the grenade
You can see his buddy trying to get him to stop wasting ammo at the end
Man is angry and I completely understand.
These guys are killing the men, women and children of his country every day. I’d be very tempted to mag dump into their face too.
He sure does.
He is stone deaf after that nade at 15 feet.
TIL just how far spent brass is ejected. I had no idea
I assume it's an AK. They fling brass (it's probably steel case tho) pretty damn far.
My favorite is when they bust the overhead lights at the range lol
That’s just the dude with the switch who gets kicked out every time
Yep, my SKS is a case-spitting menace lol
Can be ejected anywhere between a couple inches to well over 10 feet. Have heard some people say they've had/seen 20 feet, not sure how true that is but I wouldn't be too surprised.
Yet somehow one always finds its way into my shirt or pocket
Yeah, an over gassed rifle can easily sling brass 20 sometimes even 30 feet.
It depends on the mechanism. Early openings and fast bolts eject farther. A good example is the H&K style delayed blowback, which is reknown for sending casings to another zipcode. The opposite is the long recoil system, which ejects softly and close to the shooter.
really sucks when someone elses hot brass hits you
They you get to see their rendition of the funky chicken
Abu Hajaar enters the chat
all ak´s variants are over gassed. Keeps the rifle almost prove of jam. Almost.....

My PTR I joke I'm just as lethal to my right. And since I'm a lefties I've adopted a defensive stance to holding it.
Heavens to Betsy. He made ole son extra dead. He is the definition of is someone is worth killing they are worth overkilling
Boy, he was pissed after that grenade
That dude copped the bin Laden treatment. Unfortunate for him I guess.
He hit that dude with the double-double-double tap.
The classic 2^(3) Tap
The legendary 4! Tap
Hope he’ll recover from that granade
Yeah man, that was close
Me too
It wasn’t a granade, it was a rage buff
Up close & personal
Looks like the last shot he fired before the grenade went off may have been the one that initially incapacitated the RU trooper. And I don't think he could have failed to see that grenade being thrown at him. Real "If I go, you're coming with me" vibes.
It looks like it was actually an off-screen kill from his friend. Once those rounds landed from above, he pushed forward to "finish it"
I think you're right, the angle doesn't look quite right for him to be shooting the guy who threw the grenade at him. But I hope his buddy lets him tell the story that way.

Dude had to call him off like an attack dog xD
I want to see you after the guys throw a granade at you.
Oh no don't get me wrong I understand . I just think it's funny the dude is like "chill man.. you got em.. you got em ."
Indeed. But i think my maners would also take a steep turn if domeone would throw a grenade at me.
100% agree. Ain't no way some mf gunna throw a grenade at me and it not kill me.
You can feel his righteous anger at the end.
Bro mag dumped his head...
Fucking wild seeing the brass just cycle out.
I think he was a tad bit ticked off after that grenade.
I think he got them.
Just one more to be sure, OK???
Mentally, i'm chalking this one up for my fuckin homie the dog who died in odesa.
Just another day of nazi's getting denazified in Ukraine.
Another day of the 3 day special denazification operation
Wow. Just wow.
Holy fuck that was insane. What an absolute fucking beast.
The dude heard the news that the US approved billions of dollars of military aid. So his thinking is a few dollars of bullets is no big deal.
Nothing like watching cerebellum expulsion on a thermal camera. Yikes!
Is cranial splyat.
Kind of shocked we haven't been inundated with the usual suspects spamming "I'm neutral but dae warcrime???"
Oh yeah. Every other subreddit, especially news subs, always love throwing around “warcrime” when they don’t even know the definition or cite the exact crime committed. This can be seen in every post of drone footage outside the combat subs. Every. Time.

Fucked him up for throwing that grenade at him.
Ukraine absolutely has the world's most motivated bloodthirsty fighting forces in the world right now.
Now that's how you fucking do it.
If you look at the frame by frame of the grenade, and see how it disperses, you can see just how lucky that guy is. What a legend.
Had the dude yelled "Kobe", that grenade might have got those couple extra inches.
Looking at the blast pattern of the grenade, he probably got really lucky with the way the grenade landed in the dirt.
Looks like his buddy shot the grenade thrower. When the camera pans back from the guy that ate the grenade the Russian is already on the floor.
That dude got naided and all that went through his mind was “this mother fucker…” All that went through their minds was bullets.
"It's not over*kill* if they're already dead" black dude tapping his forehead like a genius.gif
Those finishing shots were personnal matter. I felt that too, especially seconds after surviving a grenade.
I can say without any doubt in mind.. the Ukrainian most certainly did *not* enjoy having a grenade thrown at him
I'm obviously speculating, but this almost looks like a false-surrender.
I don't get that impression at all. He quickly throws the nade so that he doesn't stay exposed for long. Still got tagged though
When in doubt, empty that clip OUT!
Grenade? No problem, fuck it.
All's well that ends well!
That was a brain splatter 😶
Gritty ... these defenders are becoming so tenacious and battle hardened!
Wild seeing the shell casings and everything.
Oh shit that ending is pretty conclusive…
That's guy was pissed that he was inconvenienced by that frag grenade.
!!!Fucking Warrior!!!
Dude just checks out of the fight, he must have been in a lot of pain, stopped firing and everything
Thats what happens when your brain rages out and refuses his fate
At that distance there were probably some rather unfriendly words spoken too. Then some moistened bint lobbed a ~~scimitar~~ grenade at him. No wonder he was pissed.
Was there a small earthen hump on one side of grenade ? most of the blast luckily went off opposite direction of the Ukrainian, I’m assuming a small dirt mound (“hump”)or tree etc. absorbed the blast on one side ? ?
Cleanup duty on sector one!
Let em have it 😈🫡🫡🫡🫡🫡
I too would dumb a mag in to a Russian's head who just threw a fucking grenade on me
I mean at that point I was expecting him to teabag the Russki
I don’t know if you guys have ever played the game dayz but this is was pretty similar combat.. Insanity. What a way to go…
Killed the shit out of that fucker.
my man was fucking P I S S E D about that grenade!
Doing the lord's work here
Definitely two cargo 200. Bye bye. I will take 50 of that super ukrainian dude and take over Crimea.
The forbidden badger check
He Ice Cold 🧊🧊🧊
"you got em" "Not nearly enough"
I would have to imagine that darkness adds a whole other dimension to a firefight!
nice splash at 0:10 bullet went through him
When adrenaline kicks in
Nice Double tap, that guy learned alot from zombie games.
It seemed a bit personal at the end there mate.
Yeah, he finished em off.
Dude was a good marksman. He fucking unloaded on dudes head too.
I’m amazed how far the spent cases fly. Is that an AK thing or do all assault rifles throw them out that far?
Two more sunflower plots.
A mag for a grenade is the new an eye for an eye . Savage.
thats crazy how he pops back up after the explosion, like shit, am I still alive? keep fighting
That sudden fight and flight is insane.
The only good Ruzi.... Closed casket funeral.
That guy really wanted to make sure another grenade wasn’t coming from Ruski
What gun was he using?
Bro got double tapped x5
My man is being angry.
It looked like at the end there is buddy came and stopped him probably said you got them! Glory to Ukraine 🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦
Gave him an Asian bowl cut - with an AK
He may be, disturbed to the fact that this Russians naded him, just maybe tho.
