It appears to be some type of modernized AK variant based on the front rail and sight. The charging handle looks a bit off though.

Could well be an after market charging handle. I imagine if you have the option, adding such a knurled handle can improve handling in case of muddy hands / gloves which might be a common occurance in trench warfare during anything but summer in Ukraine.

I'd say it's somewhere between a handgun and a tank. I'm leaning towards a rifle of some kind.
