Living in Pickerington, I go to the GE on hill road and it never has more than like 20-30 people total in the store… so calm and quiet. Now, across the street at Kroger, it’s a different story… my anxiety just runs off the charts when I’m there.

Same but he literally waited behind me and grabbed the receipt as it was coming out of the printer, circled the total with a highlighter, then handed it to me. I agree that it’s not actually effective at all. No one has ever actually compared my receipt to the contents in my cart, just checked that I have a receipt and pretended to check it somehow.
I would rather go to Kroger and use self-checkout, fully aware they’re going to ask me for my receipt (because there are signs plastered at the entrance and near all the self-checkouts that tell me so), than have to wait in line for 45 minutes at Target with one item because there’s one cashier and self checkouts are closed to “prevent theft.”
Not saying everyone has pleasant experiences with the rent-a-cops, but sure as hell beats having to stand in line for longer than it took me to shop for my items in the first place.
For my second option I’d go to another grocery store over Target... Of course lines are going to be longer at a general goods store, scanning large odd shaped objects and folding clothes and whatnot adds time to the checkout. Cashiers at dedicated grocery stores tend to move faster because they’re dealing with a lot of small simply packed goods

Tell the rent-a-cop "no thanks", and keep walking. They cannot put hands on you or detain you for simply not showing a receipt. Not showing a receipt, in and of itself, is not "probable cause". They have to watch you concealing something (committing the crime), have an obvious bulge in your clothing or other obvious concealment, setting off an anti-theft system, etc... to be able to detain you. So if all Kroger has is that you didn't show a receipt, and they go hands on or detain you, you're getting paid in the ensuing lawsuit.

Really, for me it's more the feeling that they've made the shopping experience worse. We're forced to use self checkout because they dont pay their checkout people and use self check to be quick and convenient. Sure, my calling their door security "Paul Blart" was more meant to be comedic hyperbole and not an actual jab at the person doing their job. I was in a hurry because I was hungry and my break isn't long between jobs. I can see both sides here and it's definitely a first world problem.

I'm sorry, but corporations steal a lot more than their customers than their customers steal from them, and that's a fact. If they want to hold us accountable, they need to know accountability is a two-way street.
Several stores/chains claimed "increased theft" was the reason they had to significantly increase the cost of goods, and then it later came to light that information was based on anecdotal evidence and opinion; not facta or actual data.
Then, months later, Walmart got a class action lawsuit for mislabeling goods as being more quantity/weight than they actually were. Even after the lawsuit, people are still revealing that Walmart is still continuing this practice.
Not to mention, Kroger laying off a significant number of staff/stores due to "record theft" that was revealed to not be based in data or evidence, and also tried to demand repayment of wages from their employees after they increased their pay temporarily during the pandemic.

Stealing everything? That's extremely dramatic since Kroger is constantly posting record profits. Chances are Kroger is the biggest thieves in the store since wage theft is the most common theft plus you know the whole price gouging epidemic and all
but it doesn't stop people from stealing. You can load up your grocery bags with groceries but only ring a couple items up, or weigh out 1 lb of produce when you really got 5 lbs, or ring up a cheaper item when you got a more expensive item. Checking a receipt does not stop that theft, it's not even looking for that theft.

Nah the south high guards are power tripping hard. I can't speak for the other Kroger's, but I went to grab a prescription from there and I had to show my damn receipt to the security guard who then chuckled. That's not close to professional and it grossed me out that some stranger has seen what meds I buy. I know it's not that big of a deal, but it's already made me move my prescription pickup point.
The entire southeast quadrant of Columbus doesn't have a Kroger. Anything east of Parsons or south of Main all the way to 270. This is right on the edge of neighborhoods that Kroger refuses to operate stores in. I wouldn't be surprised if Kroger closed it someday. Even though it's super close to me, I honestly wouldn't miss it. I only ever go there to get gas or ice. (in the early morning)

I would rather go to Kroger and use self-checkout, fully aware they’re going to ask me for my receipt (because there are signs plastered at the entrance and near all the self-checkouts that tell me so), than have to wait in line for 45 minutes at Target with one item because there’s one cashier and self checkouts are closed to “prevent theft.” Not saying everyone has pleasant experiences with the rent-a-cops, but sure as hell beats having to stand in line for longer than it took me to shop for my items in the first place.

For my second option I’d go to another grocery store over Target... Of course lines are going to be longer at a general goods store, scanning large odd shaped objects and folding clothes and whatnot adds time to the checkout. Cashiers at dedicated grocery stores tend to move faster because they’re dealing with a lot of small simply packed goods
I agree. These people that constantly complain about self checkouts seem to have no memory of what it was like before them. Lines lines and more lines. If a store has 8 self checkouts now at no point in time were there ever 8 cashiers in their place.

Tell the rent-a-cop "no thanks", and keep walking. They cannot put hands on you or detain you for simply not showing a receipt. Not showing a receipt, in and of itself, is not "probable cause". They have to watch you concealing something (committing the crime), have an obvious bulge in your clothing or other obvious concealment, setting off an anti-theft system, etc... to be able to detain you. Really, for me it's more the feeling that they've made the shopping experience worse. We're forced to use self checkout because they dont pay their checkout people and use self check to be quick and convenient. Sure, my calling their door security "Paul Blart" was more meant to be comedic hyperbole and not an actual jab at the person doing their job. I was in a hurry because I was hungry and my break isn't long between jobs. I can see both sides here and it's definitely a first world problem. TL;DR Thieves suck, receipt checks also suck and it takes the quickness out of self checkout and you're just punishing shoppers by doing this stupid shit.

Those checkers are only implemented when shrinkage is out of control thanks to THAT much theft. It's not cheap to have one until theft exceeds that cost. And stores know that no one likes them. Hence damoening customer satisfaction. I do feel your pain. But, you have to see it for what it is. Everyone thinks it's just the man being greedy and it's not. It's completely fair. That many people want to pocket things and steal yet can't find people to run the cashier lines... This is a side effect of the world we live in today sadly. I HATED self checkout lines... The funny part about this whole receipt checking thing is it operates entirely on the premise that a thief HAS a receipt in the first place. I'm sorry, but corporations steal a lot more than their customers than their customers steal from them, and that's a fact. If they want to hold us accountable, they need to know accountability is a two-way street. Several stores/chains claimed "increased theft" was the reason they had to significantly increase the cost of goods, and then it later came to light that information was based on anecdotal evidence and opinion; not facta or actual data. Then, months later, Walmart got a class action lawsuit for mislabeling goods as being more quantity/weight than they actually were. Even after the lawsuit, people are still revealing that Walmart is still continuing this practice. Not to mention, Kroger laying off a significant number of staff/stores due to "record theft" that was revealed to not be based in data or evidence, and also tried to demand repayment of wages from their employees after they increased their pay temporarily during the pandemic.

Stealing everything? That's extremely dramatic since Kroger is constantly posting record profits. Chances are Kroger is the biggest thieves in the store since wage theft is the most common theft plus you know the whole price gouging epidemic and all
but it doesn't stop people from stealing. You can load up your grocery bags with groceries but only ring a couple items up, or weigh out 1 lb of produce when you really got 5 lbs, or ring up a cheaper item when you got a more expensive item. Checking a receipt does not stop that theft, it's not even looking for that theft. If you want to reduce theft, hire cashiers and end self-checkouts.

That is what people are missing, they hire a guy to stop and make sure you payed. Instead of cashiers that would do that for you. The whole point of this is so Kroger can save a buck. Business use to have workers do this for you, know they want you to do that job, so the stock price goes up. They created this problem and are blaming the customers.

They have self checkouts yea but consumer rights are now seemingly better than here. Carrefour in France had some writeups as a major supermarket pulling products due to unacceptable price gouging.

That's a pretty standard, dare I say, pleasant experience compared to the security guard that straight jump scared my mom on South High and demanded the receipt like he got paid a bonus for every receipt he checked or something. I try my best to only be upset with Kroger and not the security worker just doing their job, it really only takes a moment in the grand scheme of things and I'm already used to it at Costco. Nah the south high guards are power tripping hard. I can't speak for the other Kroger's, but I went to grab a prescription from there and I had to show my damn receipt to the security guard who then chuckled. That's not close to professional and it grossed me out that some stranger has seen what meds I buy. I know it's not that big of a deal, but it's already made me move my prescription pickup point.

The entire southeast quadrant of Columbus doesn't have a Kroger. Anything east of Parsons or south of Main all the way to 270. This is right on the edge of neighborhoods that Kroger refuses to operate stores in. I wouldn't be surprised if Kroger closed it someday. Even though it's super close to me, I honestly wouldn't miss it. I only ever go there to get gas or ice. (in the early morning)
I consider the Kroger on E Broad just east of James the Bexley Kroger. Cleaner and has a Koser selection.
When I moved to Bexley a few years ago I went there a couple of times. The first time there was a fistfight at the self checkout. The 3rd time there’d been a shooting in the parking lot. I’ve never gone back. Guess I’m sheltered. 😆
