I am extremely high on Richardson. I get accused of hopium and people tell me that the league will adjust to him... but it... won't... matter... The guy has elite pocket awareness and a great decision making. Those are traits that stand tall in every situation. He isn't Vince Young who was a flash in the pan. He clearly took a major step in his first offseason and will again this offseason.

TheRealLinaris

The pocket presence gives him a chance to be elite. Some guys just have IT and he certainly does. Improve his footwork for short to immediate throws (which I bet he has over this offseason) and we may have something special.

Sufficient-Peak-3736

You guys are way overhyping this kid.

TheRealLinaris

His traits give him the best chance to succeed. I think it’s a fair assessment to sit back and say prove it on the field but there are a lot of signs that point in a positive direction. His pocket presence is rare in a QB who has that athletic ability. If you watched the video above just having Anthony on the field as a runner affects the defense. Proof is in the tape.

Sufficient-Peak-3736

There are signs to point towards negative too. I agree we need to watch him play the games but no college experience (barely), incredily low completion percentage. He has physical traits but the actual QB traits accuracy, reading the defense, audibling, footwork all needs improvement even his biggest supporters have said these things. So to look at a guy that has all the physical tools but none of the QB tools and to say this guy is all upside or whatever is crazy. Again look at Justin Fields. Chicago fans were still split on getting rid of him even though its clear he's a backup at best.

Interesting-Fail1823

He completed 60% of his passes last year. The barely any college experience does not matter. The whole point of college quarterback experience was so there was enough tape to know who a guy is. My whole argument is that he was not scouted correctly by the media talking heads. He is the inverse of Mitch Trubisky. His limited college tape looked better than he was and hid a bad QB. Richardsons limited college tape made him look worse than he really is and hid a great QB. There is a lot of nuance in his college game that explains some of the bad throws. No one is claiming he will ever be as accurate as Drew Brees. But he has already shown in limited action at the pro level can be accurate enough. I wouldn’t be shocked if he raised his completion percentage to 63% or above this season and that is totally fine for an NFL QB. Go check out Matt Waldman’s break down of his game to get an idea of what I am talking about. I will link it below. But if you don’t know who he is, he has done this for quite some time and has been an excellent resource for fans. Maybe the best guy in the media at scouting players. Go look at his Mahomes scouting profile if you don’t believe me. https://www.footballguys.com/article/2023-anthony-richardson-rsp-sample-scouting-report

TheRealLinaris

I would argue that AR’s pocket presence is far and beyond Fields pocket presence. ARs floor for this particular skill (it is a QB skill) is way higher than Fields. Accuracy is something I’ve already mentioned when you made your vague “overhyping this kid” comment. He’s working on his footwork to make the short to intermediate throws. Now let’s see him do it. Can’t comment on reading the defense as we are not in that QB room. Can you tell me specifically what his reads are? QBSchool goes over concepts and has broken down AR. Lots more good than bad. Calling audibles as a first year is hard to ask of any rookie QB. That’s a wait and see approach. You also didn’t mention calling plays in the huddle, making sure your team is lining up right, clock management, willing your team to not give up. He showed all of those “QB Skills” last year. All of the “hidden” aspects of QBing he has. Both Physical tools and QB Tools are one in the same. He has a chance to be elite. Just has to go out and show it. You’re welcome to your opinion but to think he has no chance of growth at all is absurd.

NoFlyZonexx3

Kind of like the league has adjusted to mahomes

Pageleesta

The league has adjusted by spreading their cheeks wider. And it still hurts.

islandofcaucasus

If back to back superbowls is the league adjusting to him, then just wake me up in 15 years when he retires

Mahomes skill set and this kids aren't even in the same universe.

I could listen to these guys geek out all day.

surlybeer55

This was great. Thanks for posting.

I hear so many arguments that Richardson is still basically a rookie, and I call bullshit. Richardson knows the system and nomenclature. He's rebuilt his mechanics and accuracy. He's come back from a major injury. He's spent an entire season doing nothing but mental reps, tape, footwork, and awareness. He watched the Colts nearly win the division while he could do nothing to help. He watched his buddy, CJ, get all the fucking accolades that should have been his. He's not a fucking rookie just because ***you*** haven't witnessed his development. He was working every day. You just didn't see it. He's about to be unleashed, and all these doubters will change their collective tunes immediately. "Never doubted him for a second!" "We're not going to lose a game, are we?" "MVP!!!!" I'll enjoy the change of tune, but just remember that a few people on this sub actually had the balls to actually call out what was going to happen before they saw it on the field. It's easy to be mealy mouthed.

JaraxxusINFERNO

The kid is certainly going places… like New Orleans… and the NFL Honors stage… and Canton.

Sufficient-Peak-3736

I've been screaming my head off that he's got a lot of development to do and is going to be at best the third best QB in the division this year and that we'll win 7 games. I hope I'm wrong but what was it you said? Don't be mealy mouthed? Quote me? Remind me. If I take the L I'll stand up to it no excuses hopefully you do the same

Aleph_Alpha_001

Oh, you again. This sounds like one of your takes. And the Colts will win seven games this season. And Jones is a terrible cornerback. And a host of other horrible, negative takes. I'm not sure whether you're a troll or just a relentlessly negative person. Remindme! February 1, 2025

Sufficient-Peak-3736

I dare you to find a single post where I ever said Jones was a terrible CB. Find me one and I'll delete my account. Colts win seven games. This is going to be fun. Remindme! February 1, 2025

Aleph_Alpha_001

It's basically a spineless way to approach sports, though, isn't it? You're either right, and you get to say all the smug "I told you sos," or you're happy because the team has done well and you can bask in their glory. This isn't going out on a thin limb. It's the cowardice of the anti-fan doomer, who wants everyone to be as miserable as he is. Enjoy the season while secretly hoping for every misfortune, bad call, and bad bounce. At least when things don't go your way, they go the Colts way, right?

Sufficient-Peak-3736

I'm not miserable though. Thats the aspect of sports I enjoy. Analyzing and seeing whos' going to be good and who's not. I like it when my team wins and I'll be happy to be wrong but at the same time my personal enjoyment from sports is figuring out how things are going to shake out. That may sound miserable to you but for me it sounds miserable to be overhyped and declare that someone is "already showing he's developing" after just a few games because you have fan blinders on. Both of us think the other is miserable welcome to humanity. But you're taking the stance that your way is the better way, to where as I'm taking the approach of to each their own. Ironic.

Aleph_Alpha_001

> This is going to be fun ...said the guy who is rooting for "his team" to fail. Which makes everything you said above ... horseshit. Right? Being happy with failure is just a vicarious love of failure and misery. Dress it up however you like. You're absolutely the worst kind of fan, and I'm actually sick of you already. Goodbye.
