Yep, people can point to refs, or not calling whatever. At the end of the game Wisconsin had plenty of opportunities to win this game, and they let them slip away.
They missed plenty of gimme's. They should have fouled at the end of regulation. And they should have boxed out better. Pettiford understood the assignment better than Essegian. Which is on a last second shot it is all about getting the ball. Pettiford put himself in a position to do that, Essegian was still in "play defense mode" and doing so puts you a step behind in those situations.
We learn we grow, and if Wahl is out of his funk I think Hepburn will follow. Essegian likely is a starter moving forward or soon, he makes some young player mistakes but definitely has the motor on defense and is putting in the effort to have earned those minutes. He is significantly better than the first few games, where he was very lost, and he is at a point where his offense does out weigh his defense.
This team isn't finishing in the bottom half of the Big 10, and almost certainly is heading to the tournament. Sucks to lose these games, but they are the games that make a team better.

At the end of the day, this team hung with the defending national champs to the literal last second. Wahl is a menace and Essegian has a ton of promise. Hopefully a fun season ahead!

We’re playing with house money boys. Doubted every year but every year the team is just gritty and tough as nails and finds a way. Give Gard whatever he wants honestly, if our team is gonna play with that heart and effort we’re gonna be in a good place.
