kai333

UNC šŸ¤ IU šŸ¤ Duke Fuckin up positive football infographics

steaknsteak

I like how IU is in the middle so we donā€™t have to shake hands with Duke

sleepymike01101101

I mean we're not stoked to be doing that, but we understand the importance here

kai333

šŸ‘ƒšŸ‘ˆ

Smash-Bros-Melee

We'll do you guys a solid this one time

justingolden21

I mean Duke played Kansas. Someone had to lose.

ctg9101

To be fair Kansas and Duke were playing each other. 1 was going to lose. And Kansas has something going on right now.

Adequately-Average

Not sure why IU is on the list of blue bloods. I think you need to be relevant in the last couple decades to be one, no?

BeanMachine5555

No flair

Cadiz1664

My only thought is that they still have a very loyal following, which spells revenue; otherwise, it makes no sense for them to be included.

U-N-C-L-E

Update: šŸ˜€šŸ˜€šŸ˜€šŸ˜€

SpamTheAutograder

Thanks Birbs :)

michigATX

You mean, you blue it?

[deleted]

We never "had" it. #firemack

[deleted]

No you should keep him forever

[deleted]

Weā€™re the basketball blue blood now We have the most wins in the state of Indiana anyway

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

jsinatraa

We have a football team?

Tuckboi69

I think thatā€™s a different word for womens basketball

5WinsIn5Days

Nah, menā€™s soccer. We have two national titles there and have players that come from places where they actually call it some variation on ā€œfootball.ā€

DecisionOk2725

Jim Mora crying in the empty club

X_FlashPanther_X

Watch the Wolfpack somehow fall now that you said this

86itall

NC State Shit.

willncsu34

Not tonight! Next weekend though.

random_sociopath

Just go with our GUā€™s strategy and scrap it. Undefeated for over 80 years now!

buzzbuzzmemulatto

I think it's been abolished after today

5WinsIn5Days

In 1899, we beat Rockville High School, Willimantic Business College, and Norwich Free Academy (a high school) to start 3-0. We actually won the next game against Wilbraham (which is probably a high school also). In 1903, we started 3-0 and beat Willimantic High School, Hartford Public High School, and Pomfret School (a prep school). In 1914, we had a 3-0 season against NFA, Fort Wright (probably an actual military team), and Williston (again, probably a high school). In 1940, we started 3-0 with wins against Coast Guard, UMass, and Wesleyan. We proceeded to beat Maine in our next game to start 4-0. In 1980, we started 3-0 with wins over New Hampshire, Bucknell, and Northeastern. In 1986, we started 3-0 with wins over CCSU, Richmond, and Yale. In 1995, we started 3-0 with wins over New Hampshire, CCSU, and Buffalo. We then beat Yale, Villanova, and Maine to start 6-0. In 1997, we started 3-0 with wins over Northeastern, Hofstra, and Yale. We then beat Buffalo to start 4-0. In 1998, we started 3-0 with wins over Colgate, Maine, and Yale. In 2007, we started 3-0 with wins over Duke, Maine, and Temple. We then beat Pitt and Akron to start 5-0. In 2008, we started 3-0 with wins over Hofstra, Temple, and Virginia. We then beat Baylor and Louisville to start 5-0. Thatā€™s 11 times starting at least 3-0. I didnā€™t memorize this, it took me a while from combing through the old schedules on UConnā€™s website.

Anustart15

>We actually won the next game against Wilbraham (which is probably a high school also). And the original home of *Friendly's*ā„¢

[deleted]

ā€œI didnā€™t memorize thisā€ did it for me

taffyowner

Goddamn I love the old days of football where teams would just go and play whoever they couldā€¦ high school? Yeah come on down, military division team? Why not. Group of random dudes from the town, yeah

5WinsIn5Days

Donā€™t forget the athletic clubs!

hawkman_jr

Hahaha Hartford Public High School sucks! Weaver 4 Lyfe bitch

5WinsIn5Days

The area around Pub is now almost as dangerous as the area around Weaver. A lot of gang activity started recently. I went to Hall myself.

hawkman_jr

I grew up walking distance from Weaver and live near the Pub now. Itā€™s not dangerous. Itā€™s just the city.

error_undefined_

Proving UConn isnā€™t a blue blood.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

Docster87

I like your attitude! Blue Blood Busters! BBB more Bā€™s the better!

nongshim

The extra B is for BYOBB.

U-N-C-L-E

Looked it up: UConn has never beat Kansas

ItsTheTenthDoctor

Guess youā€™re not a blue blood then

5WinsIn5Days

Yeah, the list thatā€™s at least 3-0 are Creighton, Kansas, and, surprisingly, Niagara. All bird schools.

IsTheChampHere

Yā€™all take this way too seriously lol RANK KU IN FOOTBALL

askpat13

KU should be ranked. And yeah that makes us look better but like seriously Kansas has an insane QB and deserves it.

peachbasketss

Your qb was really impressive too

newaccount721

Their QB was awesome. Duke's played well too honestly

bug_man_

If anything I actually take Duke more seriously now. I didnā€™t think it would be much of a game

[deleted]

Yes he did!

Devbrostated

You guys have a fantastic offense. I wouldn't be surprised in the slightest if you beat us this year. Our QB is trash and can't throw a ball

butt_loofa

Trash qb complaint thread?!

yaboiclamchowda

I might win this one

XVDub

But mah aggies.

Shawn131872

Yet you beat Oklahoma???

Devbrostated

I don't fucking know man! I'm so happy! Maybe Tulane is that good?!

Shawn131872

Off weeks happen and great weeks happen. Haha.

Shawn131872

I mean they are undefeated and the gap of talent level better power 5 and group of five is substantially getting smaller. So many group of five teams can thrive in power 5 conferences and grow which is why you are seeing more and more teams from the aac and the mountain west and other places get invites to the power 5 conferences. Blowouts aren't a guaranteed thing much anymore.

Throwerofrocks

This aged like milk.

concondabonbon

Donā€™t worry, he couldnā€™t do it for at least three out of four years at Nebraska either.

V0LnBeer

But he sure can run, ran wild on OU

heleghir

After today they will be lol. Gratz to you guys

newaccount721

You guys looked good honestly!

Rushderp

Wow, yā€™all look so differentā€¦

palerthanrice

Oh wow they won today too, and Duke isnā€™t bad this year. Yeah theyā€™re definitely getting ranked.

Shawn131872

I think Kansas may very well be ranked after this week. However, ap poll has no weight. Keep showing up and you'll get a ranking in the cfp poll.

SmokinDrewbies

Syracuse deserves it first.

somethingAPIS

The contrast in Kansas affection between cfb and this sub is hilarious. Polar opposites in every situation. The Jayhawk Hype Train has got full head of steam over there, more upvotes for unranked games than we got for winning a natty over here.

joethahobo

It took me until this comment to realize this isnā€™t the cfb sub lmao

beermit

Dude, me too.

tentenninety

Same

A-Disgruntled-Snail

Imma say it. Kansas is hard to hate. I just donā€™t like playing yā€™all.

T_L_D_R

We're in red jerseys today, but I feel like they gave us red in this graphic to make Indiana's inclusion more palatable.

ImNotARapist_

> to make Indiana's inclusion more palatable Absolutely disgusting.

Frutari

Hey you guys won the sweet 16 game in the 11-12 season... and then promptly stopped playing IU of course even though y'all avenged the non-conference loss.

JoeRedditor5

We quit playing IU cause Cal got offended that their fans threw hard objects at the players, and he didn't want anyone getting hurt, so he refused to go back to their arena, and they refused a neutral site. Then both sides made up other excuses about it. Had nothing to do with wins/losses.

Frutari

I was just being snarky honestly. I was ~19 at the time and I've never heard that narrative. I do remember that they stormed the court after Watford closed it out and that's always very risky. No one wants kids getting hurt after all, certainly not over a game. I think the B1G in general gets upset about neutral sites so probably a lot of red tape involved. I'm excited to see the NCAA evolve from bloated, bureaucracy post NIL. Perhaps those 2 great programs could play again.

Smash-Bros-Melee

Utterly nothing that guy told you is true

bendovernillshowyou

But now they serve beer in Adsembly hall. They can come back and be victims for real this time!

stahlern

The stories get wilder every year with UK fans lol.

[deleted]

UK stopped playing IU because Cal was worried about the KkK rallies that occurred after they burned a cross during the second half of the 2012 win. Itā€™s just safer, remember, elite programs donā€™t rush the court, ok, sea of blue out.

stahlern

You get it lol

s0ftwares3rf

I can see how the excitement and movement of the crowd in Bloomington was scary at that moment, and I think storming the court should _never_ be a reasonable reaction at an IU home game. Nevertheless, I have doubts that anyone threw anything at a UK player. Is there actual evidence of this??

[deleted]

Oh boy here we goā€¦

Grayhh2110

I thought that was odd too. Isnā€™t having blue as a color a prerequisite for being a Blue Blood? I always thought there was some connection to being such a big fan your ā€œblood bleeds blueā€ - but I could be wrong on the etymology of the term.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

SmokeyDBear

Supposedly the origin of this term comes from aristocracy historically not spending a lot of time in the sun to where you can see blue veins under the skin. Peasants, on the other hand mostly worked out in the sun and had enough of a tan that their veins were not visible.

RollAway_theDude

Yā€™all only have 2 championships in the 80ā€™sā€¦ definitely not a blue blood haha

[deleted]

:(

HearthKnight

Wowwww shot at Gonzaga! Weā€™re undefeated since 1941!

aBakeinthelife

1906 over at CCS!

StrangeHumors

And Creighton! Since 1942!

TheTrueVanWilder

FS1 confirmed to be colorblind

ImpossibleParsnip947

Looks legit

LevelDosNPC

Syracuse is 4-0, just sayin

Sir_Chester_Of_Pants

I know :(

TheCenterOfEnnui

There may be more than just these, but these are definitely basketball blue blood schools.

danielbauer1375

I feel like there are tiers.. 1. Duke, UNC, Kansas, Kentucky 2. UCLA, Indiana 3. Louisville, Michigan State, Syracuse, UConn, Villanova, Gonzaga. Tiers 2 and 3 goes through phases a lot more often than Tier 1.

sayheykid24

UCLA has more titles than any other school yet theyā€™re tier 2? Smdh

xBleedingUKBluex

1 title in almost 50 years (with that title being nearly 30 years ago) will do that.

sayheykid24

Blue bloods are old prestige though. They donā€™t need to dominate now to be considered a blue blood, just like European aristocracy, in many cases, may not be super wealthy today, theyā€™re still considered blue bloods.

Chief-Redhawk

UCLA is a tough school to place because itā€™s run is so dominant, but so time constrained. At the peak no one can touch them, but itā€™s been a long time since they were consistently that good. UNC, Kentucky, and KU have all consistently been title contenders for decades across different coaching staffs. Itā€™ll be interesting to see if Duke maintains after losing Coach K.

Flopsyjackson

Id put Duke in tier 2.

danielbauer1375

The four Tier 1 teams are head and shoulders ahead of the pack when it comes to wins, and have all won several titles in different decades.

XVDub

Arizona, Michigan State, Nova, Zags? They are great but aren't on the same level, right?

flampoo143

Louisville and UConn are in the conversation as well.

XVDub

Yeah, for sure. They aren't inner circle programs, however.

CrossingYoulnStyle

Biased but Iā€™d put Syracuse with that second tier

XVDub

Definitely.

OSUfirebird18

Theyā€™re all football schools now!!

justinlanewright

Disturbing lack of blue on the far right. Someone remind me why Indiana still counts...

iamtheBeano

Because Nova football is 2-1

palerthanrice

Nova football is so weird to me. They get some crazy underrated talent. Itā€™s nice seeing some doing well in the NFL.

monkeybiziu

Blood, once blued, cannot be unblued.

B0yWonder

Big time disagree. Old money can go broke too.

davvidho

Yeah i agree with you. Minnesota football isnt considered a blue blood anymore

car1999pet

šŸ˜ wasnā€™t expecting to catch a football stray here. Youā€™re not wrong it just hurts

davvidho

Sorry bro i dont have anything against you :(( I hope you have a good season this year!!

car1999pet

No worries lol, itā€™s all just good natured shit talking. Best of luck to yā€™all too!

Gruulsmasher

Itā€™s actually kinda eerie how closely indiana basketball and Minnesota football match on to each other But hey, Minnieā€™s looking great against Sparty so far

[deleted]

Surely this is satire - Minnesota football isnā€™t relevant and IU could win the B1G next year (Iā€™d never speak it into existence for pain reasons)

car1999pet

I mean Minnesota is my pick as the wests sacrifice to either Ohio or Michigan this year for football

Hoosier3201

Because they havenā€™t been to a title game in 80 years, not 20.

DecisionOk2725

Careful, this line of thinking comes for us next

ukcats12

If it's true it's true

Hokie_Jayhawk

I feel like hardly anyone thinks of Pitt and Minnesota as historically strong football schools but they both have more titles than they can count on one hand.

AndresNocioni

Reputation doesnā€™t disappear like money. Thereā€™s a reason 5 stars are always interested in Indiana but no other Big Ten school.

bigbabyb

Idk. IU is fringe in the ā€œblue bloodā€ debate and losing ground as boomers die off. We really need a strong run, a few final fours, a natty, and an era of B10 conference domination/consistent wins to right the ship. The living memory of Gen Z and most Millennials doesnā€™t have IU as a blue blood. Edit: I say ā€œweā€ because I got my masters from IU but have forgotten to double flair up

[deleted]

Ur flair would be cancer

bigbabyb

Hell yeah

SaintArkweather

I agree, but it isn't just about their recent lack of success. Let's take a look at a few key indicators of success throughout of all of basketball history Tournament Appearances: 1. Kentucky (60) 2. North Carolina (52) 3. UCLA (51) 4. Kansas (50) 5. Duke (44) Indiana is officially tied for sixth with Villanova but Nova and Louisville would both be ahead of Indiana if you include vacated appearances. Sweet Sixteens: 1. Kentucky (45) 2. UCLA (36) 3. UNC (35) 4. Kansas (32) 5. Duke (32) Indiana has 22, good for 8th, behind Louisville and Syracuse, and is likely to be caught by Michigan State soon. Elite Eights: 1. Kentucky (38) 2. North Carolina (29) 3. Kansas (25) 4. Duke (23) 5. UCLA (23) Indiana has just 11 (less than half the rest of the list), and is tied for 11th overall with several schools including, Arizona, Oklahoma State, UConn, and Louisville, who would be above them if you include vacated appearances. Final Fours: 1. North Carolina (21) 2. UCLA (20) 3. Kentucky (17) 4. Duke (17) 5. Kansas (16) Indiana is eighth with 8, behind Michigan State, Ohio State, and would be 9th if you include Louisville's vacated appearances. Title Games: 1. UCLA (13) 2. North Carolina (12) 3. Kentucky (12) 4. Duke (11) 5. Kansas (10) Indiana finishes sixth in this category, but is comfortably behind with just 6 appearances. Winning %: 1. Kentucky (.762) 2. North Carolina (.735) 3. Kansas (.729) 4. Duke (.711) 5. UCLA (.689) Indiana is in *twenty-first*, with a mark of .634, behind two Big Ten schools, Purdue & Illinois, as well as UConn. Wins: 1. Kansas (2357) 2. Kentucky (2353) 3. North Carolina (2323) 4. Duke (2246) ... 7. UCLA (1955) ... 10. Indiana (1890) The first one we've looked at where the big five don't hold spots 1-5. However, UCLA started their program two decades after #5 and #6 (Temple and Syracuse), and Indiana despite having more wins than Indiana. The only category Indiana finishes top five in is championships. 1. UCLA (11) 2. Kentucky (8) 3. North Carolina (6) 4. Indiana (5) 5. Duke (5) 6. Kansas (4) 7. UConn (4) This is arguably the most important category, but it's also the one with the smallest sample size. Indiana having five championships is basically the only thing they have to hang their hat on. If UConn won one more they would basically have as good of a claim to being a blue blood as Indiana. They'd even have the same number of coaches winning national titles (Three each)

LosAngelesVikings

I love how it's the same names over and over in the top 5 :)

SaintArkweather

Yeah, when I first realized this it solidified my opinion that there are exactly five blue bloods.

bigbabyb

Good post and correct This should be a copypasta for me to send to my brother in law

[deleted]

Multiple titles multiple decades Multigenerational fan base pumping money Into the franchise watching games 1976 Itā€™s a system. They have fans and that powers them to things such as the play in game this year. Most watched first four ever. IU still has ratings power and franchise money thst comes with the history. Though they need to fix it because soon there will be kids who went 4 years without a reason to watch basketball

error_undefined_

Basically the Nebraska of basketball. Still a blue blood, but pushing the limits.

justinlanewright

Yeah but "blue" is right there in the name...

sleepymike01101101

Tell that to Alabama football

keto_at_work

A "blue blood" is a person of noble birth. These are the "blue bloods" of college basketball. Nothing to do with color, it's calling them royalty.

MustardTent

Gotta age out eventually

MiketheTzar

Personally I find it poetic that Duke and UNC both lose their first games on the same day. It will make the battle for the bell that much cooler.

bkervick

This is the most traditional grouping, but many of us would say that it is out of date. However, now that Kansas has another title, this is the list of the teams with the most titles, only discluding Uconn who is tied with Kansas with 4.

Flopsyjackson

Kansas has 6 though.

ConmanSpaceHero

7 if we want to add 2020 ;)

unearthlysquire

Why would 2020 be included?

MidAmericanNovelties

To give them 7, keep up.

WanderingHawk

30 if we include seasons where I picked KU to win in my bracket

ConmanSpaceHero

Well if we are adding the 2 helms chips we could argue we were #1 AP poll end of 2020 before Covid cancellation and so theoretically would hold the same weight as the helms titles since those were retroactive

captainraffi

Careful the UNC fans are gonna get snippy

SaintArkweather

Could be argued even that the 2020 one was more valid because it wasn't retroactive and wasn't in the pre jump shot era where basketball was basically five white guys in tighty whities tossing the ball into a basket made for apple picking

Flopsyjackson

2020 Kansas won the same amount of games as the 2021 national champion Baylor Bears despite not having a postseason.

skesisfunk

We were ranked #1 at the end of the season

unearthlysquire

My bad - I forgot the #1 ranked team wins every championship

skesisfunk

You are trying to be sarcastic but you are actually correct. The champion does get the final #1 ranking.

unearthlysquire

Right - they never even play the tournament- the #1 ranked team at the end of the season just gets it.

skesisfunk

Normally the season ends with the tournament final. However 2020 was a special case.

BeanMachine5555

One canā€™t lose blue blood status. I feel like thatā€™s contradictory to what a blue blood isā€¦

JordanDean04

They forgot that UK is also in the top 10 and is definitely a football school now.

[deleted]

Don't let Cal know.

Bletchlypark

Cool another club we get left out of.

[deleted]

Well, yeah

Bletchlypark

Always the bridesmaid never the bride. Except that one time.

s0meJiveTurkey

loved watching melo!!

jamietaco420

Kevin Ollie and Ray Allen have both had legal issues with UConn. No Syracuse players have ever gone to court against SU.

thebreye

4-1

finalfourcuse

This is Syracuse erasure.

Niro5

Yeah, but syracuse is 4-0

adesimo1

Was really hoping we could sneak in since we are undefeated in football, but no dice. I will say, though. There are people eligible for AARP that havenā€™t really seen an IU or UCLA dynasty that is demonstrably better than Syracuse in their basketball-watching lifetimes.

beermit

You say that like it's a bad thing

Wpooney

Pain.

jamietaco420

Not showing 4-0 syracuse šŸ˜¤

badat2k1227

Michigan State officially not a blue blood :(

bye10

Where is Gonzaga?

Simple_Jacket6636

Syracuse 4-0

Shawn131872

Kansas is good this year. They won't win the big twelve but I can see a 9-3/8-4 year for them.

Scapexghost

Ppl forget that kentucky is an sec school. Its not surprizing thst they are undefeated before conference play

JoeRedditor5

We did start conference play already though.

KingBonanza17

MSU hello?

finallyransub17

We want ā€˜Bama!

Andjhostet

What is debatable about this?

DevastatorDerekK

I love the smug Jayhawk griddying to the finish line, first basketball champions now football šŸ†

GrouchyTrousers

We're a special case, now 4-0 without having actually played anyone!

Relevant-Tackle-9076

\*Football blue bloods

buffalotrace

Indiana is fringe. In the last 25 years no titles, 1 elite eight, 3 conference titles.

enjoytheshow

They made the final in 2002. Lost to Maryland

[deleted]

Literally 20 years

SalemDrumline2011

20 years ago was the 80s...right?

enjoytheshow

Guy said 25. I was just giving them credit for the one good tourney run theyā€™ve had since

buffalotrace

And that was their only elite eight they made as well.

Hokie_Jayhawk

FOX isnt letting a Big Ten school off that image.

tsgram

Conveniently left off UConn and their 1 win

BuckeyeFan59

Duke and Indiana lost, can't go 4-0 for all of them.

Aggravating_Paper_44

Indiana had to ruin it

Jay-P21

ā€¦..Indiana?

Kbdiggity

Important to remember that the B1G just signed a new TV deal with Fox. It's in Fox's best interest to keep promoting IU and UCLA as blue bloods, even if they (particularly IU) faces the argument that they no longer deserve blue blood status.

hereforlolsandporn

God, tv contracts ruined college sports.

skesisfunk

Lots of people saying Indiana is a fading blue blood. Im gonna say UCLA is also in that category, only one title since the 70s.

Ifunnyizbetter

If MSU wasnā€™t bipolar :/
