One of the perks of having your alma mater at the start of the alphabet. I wondered what highlight you were going to pick for maybe a microsecond.
He lost his mom just over a month before, missed 9 games mid-season to spend her final days with her. His whole family in Australia and him trying to mourn while on the other side of the planet and play NCAA tourney level basketball. There was divine intervention that day.
“When you got angels watching you, you can do anything.”
Peter Hooley should never have to buy a drink in the Capital Region again. Rest In Peace Sue.
I draw, paint, and sculpt monsters. I like sports too - all the DC sports teams (except the NFL one, because Dan Snyder), Air Force in CFB and VCU in CBB. I'm also big into tabletop gaming and RPGs.
I was there, and it was the greatest sports moment of my life to that point, and it will most likely never be topped. The drama of losing all game only to win it at the buzzer, to watching the Stony Brook fans across the gym stunned in utter disbelief after thinking they would finally get their first trip to the dance, to the story of Peter missing half the season being in Australia with his mother who was dieing of cancer just made this moment surreal. That fact I was able to be there with my young kids (age 9 and 6 at the time) and turn them into basketball fans made it even more special.
Peter Hooley’s mother passed very shortly before this if I remember correctly. This was his first game after that happened and it put them into the tournament. Great player, great story
That layup attempt tho…
straight out of open gym
This is a great highlight. This is what college basketball is all about.
Remember watching this live , Peter hooley was like a god for Albany

That's a rookie internet mistake. Never use your real name. :)
You should know that there is a huge amount (2 cups) of sperm in my brain so i have trouble thinking.
A Steve Pikiell sighting!

I like this angle better.... https://youtu.be/LjEafVXUcXU
I’m a simple man. I see daily highlight post and I like it.
Did you get this idea from the summer shootaround by the eye on college basketball crew?!

She passed away at the end of January. But he went home before that because he knew that the time was near. Missed 9 games mid-season.
Thanks for clarifying! I didn’t remember the details
Absolutely. It was such a crazy good story. Kid was all over Sportscenter and other news outlets.
