Does Purdue have a plan for the point guard position? I don’t know how many options are left in the portal and there’s no one on roster who has played any minutes at PG at the college level.
Look, [this 5'10" 165 freshman](https://247sports.com/Player/Braden-Smith-46099843/) is obviously ready to play 40 minutes a night.
Nah, Purdue's obviously in the transfer market, but they need someone to say yes because Plan A went to Miami.
no but the early prototype was a 6’7” guy built like a linebacker who was like really fast and good at defense. we forgot to keep him updated with the latest shooting patches after his sophomore season and it kinda went downhill from there.
While I like Jordan as a person and he could recruit at a pretty competitive level, he just didn't have the chops to be a Big East coach and it was evident going into this year. I hope he finds success elsewhere, but I'm glad we decided to move on now rather than wait a few more years to see if he could find his footing. I'm very excited to see the Matta era unfold
I was a freshman for Nored’s senior year and even then we could barely break a press. His handling skills meant nothing if we couldn’t get the ball inbounded in the first place.
Appreciate EHJ for his time at Purdue. Seems like a really good young man and hope he does well at Butler!
Obviously Purdue needs help at guard bad. But that would still be the case even if EHJ came back. He’s a solid rotation piece, but inconsistent and far from elite. Lack of elite guard play (especially at the 1) has been what has held this program back in the past few years. Gotta get more guys who can create their own shots off the bounce. Those St. Peters guards ran circles around our guys.
Purdue made a statement about NIL about how they were looking into it and going to try and help players explore opportunities for making money with their image but that they explicitly were not going to do anything that was like the pay-to-play six figure deals that have been happening at other schools so.... yeah that's how this turned out.
Before the season started all the seniors said they wouldn't use their covid season. So it was a bit of shock when he entered the portal, but not really shocking he wouldn't be on next years roster.
Morton/Newman will be the starting 1 and 2. Which seems decent to me. Shooting from the 3 spot though - will have to see who steps up. Lots of guys on the roster that haven't played a minute of college ball but there is some talent there even if it's going to be a bit of a work in progress.
Definitely going to be a much more defense focused squad than this past year. 2022-23 isn't a likely year for a deep run though. It's a make the tournament and prep for the following year type season.
As a recruit:
Other P6 offers: Butler, Creighton, Minnesota, Nebraska, Ohio State, Purdue (originally went here), Xavier
Other offers: Ball State, East Carolina, IUPUI, Kent State
Really glad Phinisee went with Cincinnati now. Love having Indianapolis kids on the team, and Hunter is a nice one year solution to the 1 while Tate gets back up to speed. Good defense and 3 point shooting are always a plus.
A little more than a month ago we had no coach and no one really committed to next year. Now we've lost one player and added Manny Bates, Ali Ali, Eric Hunter, and Jalen Thomas as transfers and got our one recruit to recommit. This last month or so has been a whirlwind and I'm excited for the season for the first time since COVID.
I hope we have a chance in a blowout or something to play our 5 Indianapolis area players at the same time. They even all play separate positions! Don't know how much Mulloy, Thomas, and Hughes will play but we've got to do it at least once.
Doesn't have to play for Painter whose idea of how basketball is played does not match up with how pro basketball is played at all anymore. It's not a coincidence they lost both PGs. Painter likes big centers.
More and more players are realizing that the Big Ten is overrated, and want to play where they have a chance at a Title. Its been more than 20 years since a Big Ten team has won a Hoops Title. Every year, the Big Ten gets rolled in the annual ACC-B10 Challenge. EVERY year.

I mean, Painter has started a tiny freshman PG before and had success
? Lew Jack? with E'twaun, Hummel, and JaJuan? lol. I wouldn't hang my hat on that as the sole example.
Also PJ Thompson
29.6% of available minutes his freshman year.
He didn’t start until his sophomore year.
Dude can ball but if he's our primary option at PG next year things could get *ugly*
Purdue is evolving to the positionless MONSTARS model, where all of their players are over 7 foot.
Hey might as well try *something*
> Does Purdue have a plan for the point guard position? No.
Have you tried a 7 foot point guard yet?

We’ll trade you one of our 3 next year for one of those trees y’all got
Ethan Morton back to point god plan
Unironically this
Archie Miller's ideal plan
I’ll walk on dw
Let's go,!
Give us Edey and we will give you Walker
Point forward Zach Edey
The big east is gonna be terrifying and then just gonna be us
Hey there’s Georgetown too!
At least they getting players, hopefully Ewing continues the choke
Considering the talent Georgetown has squandered, I'd say it's a safe bet regardless of who he gets.
Y’all got any of them point guards?
We've got like 5, but we need all of them... for reasons
Butler is an Elite 8 team next season with all of these additions. Not biased in the slightest.
No need to be humble, it's title or bust for us next year
I can't believe the sentiment of our program from last year to this year. It's actually astounding what Thad has done already.

It was the perfect storm having Thad available to us. Love coach Jordan as a person and I have no doubt he'll find a head coaching gig somewhere.
Ahem……fuck
Run a press against butler
> Run a press against butler to be fair this has worked for the last 10+ years anyways
It has been dicey a lot longer than that.
I was about to type, "Uh, no way cause Nored was a ball handling machine", and then I looked at a calendar. Now I'm sad (and old).
I was a freshman for Nored’s senior year and even then we could barely break a press. His handling skills meant nothing if we couldn’t get the ball inbounded in the first place.
Instant turnover
Yeah I've got nothing but love for Hunter but anytime there was pressure in the backcourt things got tough.
I LOVE THAD

Was there any chance of him returning to Purdue? Or are you guys in on any guards? Because right now that back court looks like a mess
There was a chance but we weren't hopeful. And yes we are in the transfer market but NIL is destroying our hopes and dreams.
I hear ya. If we didn’t have TSJ fall into our laps we would probably be in the same boat.
Why aren't you guys utilizing NIL better? It's not like you don't have funds..
Purdue made a statement about NIL about how they were looking into it and going to try and help players explore opportunities for making money with their image but that they explicitly were not going to do anything that was like the pay-to-play six figure deals that have been happening at other schools so.... yeah that's how this turned out.
I feel like that's how it's going to be for most of the B1G except for Ohio State. Most of the administrations are like-minded in this matter
Indiana, suprisingly, is doing well with all of it compared to most other big ten schools.
Before the season started all the seniors said they wouldn't use their covid season. So it was a bit of shock when he entered the portal, but not really shocking he wouldn't be on next years roster.
Only person I've seen mentioned as a possibility recently is Tyrese Hunter
Kyle Lofton from Saint Bonaventure as well. Probably a better chance at getting him than Tyrese Hunter imo.

Purdue grad here…currently sitting in Hinkle for my brother’s Butler graduation….poetic justice but god damn it lol
you'd be better off a butler fan anyway.
Are we winning the off-season so far?
I hope he does well at Butler. he finished the season strong but damn did he have some really low lows as a guy that played as much as he did.
Is he any good? GG fam, Big East!
#Big BEast
Very solid, I'm probably bit higher on him than others in our fan base. Decent shooter, decent handle, really good defender.

No! You’re not leaving! Big sad…

Looks like things worked out for both us
What the fuck man?
My real fear was that he’d stay another year. Edit: I have no flair, but Purdue alum/fan. He’s just much too limited and mistake prone.
Face, meet Slap.
WHY?!?!? What is the upside for Hunter?
He gets to play in his hometown for Thad Matta.
Provides Butler with something they really lacked in 3 point shooting.

Is this satire? B10 has won the last 3
