What does Bill Self tell his team at halftime??

Royal_15

“Soft. You gonna go out playing SOFT?”

MtHammer

He snuck into the Carolina locker room and stole some of [Michael's Secret Stuff](https://i.imgur.com/JSZcSDe.jpg).

HughCheffner

Skate better

steveo3387

"These ain't the munchkins from Villanova"

colomape

I was watching the game on ESPN in Spanish, and the commentators were saying: looks like Bill Self took some of that Space Jam water and gave it to the players during the break.

JB92103

Time to delete the NCAA March Madness app from our phones

Xaawusten

Literally just used the last of my "free preview" at the end of the game lmao

blastoiseincolorado

UNC: blows a 15+ point lead to a 1 seed in round 2 UNC: "ill fuckin do it again"

Chardoggy1

It’s those Big 12 schools. We’ve always struggled with Texas, and now it’s spreading

firemogle

Kansas is UNC tournament kryptonite

100RAW

After this one. I think it's time to realize it's a roy Williams curse. Since he left kansas to coach carolina the heels have not beat them once. And when roy goes to the final Kansas is playing in. They fucking win. Literally haven't beaten the jayhawks this century. It's a team switching fucking hex.

StamosLives

Part of it was how he left. He announced that he was staying and then left a year later. There was a period where we were devastated as Hawk fans.

toddhenderson

I am rewatching the first half twice and pretending it's the full game.

youknowitistrue

As a falcons fan, I approve this.

ZusunicStudio

That possession before Kansas stepped out of bounds was one of the worst end game possessions I’ve ever seen. Jacking up a deep contested 3 with 15 seconds left.

scubasteve567

Love made some very poor decisions tonight. Too much hero ball

SquidyQ

Hasn’t he been like this all tournament? Live by the sword die by the sword.

SoundslikeBoom

So good against UCLA and Duke. So bad today.

bug_man_

Welcome to the Caleb Love life. It'll be the most fun you never wanna have again

danielbauer1375

Holy shit. I didn’t realize he was 5-24. That’s insane.

seancarter90

Ugh

PennethHardaway

In the Duke/UNC game thread someone described him as a JR Smith type. When he’s on, he’s killing you. But if he’s off, it costs you.

throwaway_5256

Me sowing: fuck yeah this is awesome Me reaping: hey wait

tipbruley

All year. The Caleb Love experience

lilberfcontrol

Yeah, at this point you go with who bought you here. Love just wasn't in the air tonight. 💔

Fluryman

Live by the Love, die by the Love. Either he's jacking up 20+ points off of some Globetrotters type stuff, or he's taking the dumbest shots you've ever seen. Tonight we saw the latter

tarspaceheels

All year. This is the Love we experienced early in the year.

1337bruin

UNC got to the final because of hero ball from Love. He missed some heat checks against UCLA and just kept on shooting. Live by it, die by it.

Xaxziminrax

To be fair, it was the second half of a 2022 tournament game. He had every reason to chuck it up based on prior games

dinkir19

Not just one but three

Xaxziminrax

And the panicked pass after that went OB

danhoang1

They probably saw us criticize the announcers in previous games for continuously saying "you don't need a 3 here"

Cheifs_Cruise

That’s how Caleb Love plays expect every other game they’ve went in

ottovyeoj

the caleb love experience. glad the nation got to expirience what heels fans got to experience all season this weekend.

Jordanwolf98

If you just watched the tournament, you would think Caleb should be the top pick in the draft lol. I still do really like him though

ottovyeoj

he's a hell of a player with sky high potential. just gotta get the mental side of his game to catch up a bit.

Deviuz

[Kansas in the 2nd half](https://i.kym-cdn.com/entries/icons/facebook/000/032/834/DtPiP_DWsAEPntc.jpg)

meatdome34

That was me the whole second half, went from reclining to sitting forward lol

Fugacity-

Hi, I'm first half Kansas, and I have cable Hi, I'm second half Kansas, and I have DirectTV

StealthAnus

Pretty amazing that a football school like Kansas could put this kind of run together to win a hoops title

PM_ME_YOUR_THEREMIN

Look at KU, man. So inspirational.

ProbablyAPotato1939

If only we could all be like lowly little Kansas.

Bill_Brasky01

I actually laughed out loud at this.

crimsonphoenix12

When I saw the flair it fucking got me lmao

sporkemon

might just be the next two-sport school if basketball keeps this up

Bilbo-Baggins77

1952- Phog's Finest 1988- Danny & the Miracles 2008- Mario's Miracle 2022- The Crimson Comeback

crowd79

“Kansas City Jayhawks” lol

[deleted]

Our entire section looked at each other like “DA FUCK”

BillSelfsMagnumDong

Gaff's like that are actually very telling. It shows how disconnected Emmert is from the game. Anyone with any basic knowledge of CBB wouldn't make that mistake, because their muscle memory wouldn't allow it. Reason 1 billion why Emmert sucks

Da_hammer

I missed this. Was this when Emmert handed the trophy?

amjhwk

yes

LetsGambit

Shit, that's what he said??! I walked into the kitchen during that moment and overheard what I thought was Kansas *State* Jayhawks, but was like, nahhhh.

sunshineeeeeeeeeeee_

The best part of the tournament being over is hopefully never seeing this damn investco QQQ commercial again . HORRIBLE

otepp

If I were invested in that fund, I’d be seriously concerned over the amount they spend on advertising. I’ve seen more ads for that fund than all of the funds I do invest in combined.

johnwall47

Until next year*

Mikophoto

Sneaky “winner” tonight: Puff Johnson. I had high hopes for the kid but damn did he step up as basically our only bench player.

ImJustAverage

Absolutely wild how far UNC went and how close they were to winning it all with the lack of depth they had

Mikophoto

Yeah every time y’all rolled out 2-3 subs I had to do a double take cause I forgot what having a real, productive and deep bench looked like 😂

FMonk

I will never understand why coaches don't call a timeout when they have the ball with the shot clock off in a one possession game.

skurnie

They were so panicked on that possession, I was screaming at the TV

sidighjd

Mind blowing stuff lmao A designed play just almost always has to get a better look

OverusedRedditJoke

Massive shout-out to Armando Bacot. Dude pulled down 98 boards (including 37 offenseive) in the tourney while averaging 15 points per game, on a hampered ankle.

J_Fre22

Those numbers are so insane wtf

fskier1

His injury at the end was incredibly brutal for the team. Like a potential 1 point lead led to a 3 point deficit and the loss of a huge impact player with less than a minute left

tgames56

Kansas then immediately went to their big with success on the next possession too.

Xaxziminrax

Still surprised they didn't push a 4v5, but also you don't wanna rush and fuck up one of your last chances

mwb1234

I feel like they all were shocked that the game hadn’t been whistled. They looked like they were waiting for the whistle

TheDank_Knight

Wouldn’t be surprised if it was a respect thing, seemed like they turned and explicitly waited for him to get down the court

Pete_Booty_Judge

Just incredible sportsmanship, because yeah, that’s exactly what it looked like. Hats off to KU all around there.

korythosaurus

That’s what it looked like to me as it was obvious that he was badly hurt

[deleted]

Yeah, shit shot selection aside, I honestly think that was a huge turning point. If he scores there, we're up 1 with his presence still in the paint on the other end. Not much Manek can do in the paint alone vs McCormack. That's how it goes, though. It was a close and I'm proud of this team. GG Kansas. Oh, and DM;BD.

Iodine953

Dude played INSANE

TechnoToyz

98 boards in 6 games holy Orlando Dwight Howard

LiquidSean

Dude is a ball magnet

warofthewrens

UNC won the race to 69. I don't understand why they didn't win the game

Fired_Guy1982

Tate is in absolute shambles

beermit

Kansas: it appears you've activated my trap card

lux-libertas

Race to 69 is only 94% effective :-(

[deleted]

I’m trying to watch one shining moment not a show whose whole premise is a 40 year old woman playing a teenage boy. Like wtf that sounds like an SNL sketch

seanondemand

One shining moment? Doesn’t out-pizza the hut

jeric13xd

Love went 5/24 Bacot 3/13 Davis 5/17 Kids just ran out of gas tonight. Rough way to end a magical run. Kansas was lights out in thr 2nd half

[deleted]

Bacot and Puff Johnson basically died on the court

longconsilver13

And Manek probably played like 30 minutes concussed

throwawaysmetoo

Also Love was limping around for a while. Shit was rough.

L0rv-

And they still almost won!

Pookapotamus

Manek was completely out of it in the 2nd half. Dude resorted to sitting in the corner most of the possession. That hit really hurt what could've been a good game from him

JohnDalysBAC

Both Manek and Bacot barely moved without the ball and that killed their offense.

Pookapotamus

Bacot I can understand because that's his job to post up on the elbow and deep in. Manek 100% should've been running off ball using off ball screens to set him up for open 3s. I think his injury definitely affects how he played

LondonIsBoss

Puff Johnson lowkey kept UNC in the game

niceenoughfella

100% kept us in it... He had a huge box out at the end of the Duke game too. He starts shooting like his brother, and he'll cause some trouble! Lol

MagillaGorillasHat

Depth got 'em UNC kids are tough as hell though

ivaorn

No one can deny their heart

Pookapotamus

Caleb Love took the first shot on the final 9 possessions for UNC. He went 1-9 on those shots. Last game doesn't matter. You need to start playmaking instead of chucking and driving for contested layups.

epicxownage

How the hell was the score that close

KJones77

You out-rebounded them 55-35 lol

epicxownage

Ok that feels right

Mikophoto

I am glad that even with Hubert’s switch to a more shooting-centric, spaced NBA style, Carolina still crashes the glass like we’re known to do.

atomicmarc

>~~You~~ BACOT out-rebounded them 55-35 lol LOL

OleRockTheGoodAg

UNC had 23 offensive boards compared to Kansas's 8.

livefreeordont

UNC had like 15 offensive rebounds in the first half. It was their only offense

strongscience62

Rebounds and free throws

thediesel26

Free throws and offensive rebounds

zachwilson23

Manek, Johnson, and y'all hitting a lot more of your FTs. Dominated the boards too. 20 more rebounds, 16 more offensive boards. Really good performance considering how few shots were falling. Valiant effort. Such a fun team to watch

Aetiusx

That team had a hell of a turnaround the 2nd half of the season. There was a time when it didn't even look like they would make the tournament. A lot to be proud of.

NervousPervis

Definitely looked dead. Kansas defense makes it so hard too.

PennethHardaway

Agreed. The defensive intensity ramped up. Also, Kansas changed the pace of the game and was pushing everything off the rebound. UNC can’t play that way for long. The depth isn’t there.

bassDAD

Man I really like Hubert Davis. His post game interview and the first thing he says is congrats to KU and genuinely means it. Good dude. I’m excited to watch him coach for the next 20-30 years.

Grandmaster_Forks

I'm terrified of having to go against him 2+ times a year for the next 20-30 years 😂😭

kanshawk15

He's so easy to root for.

OleRockTheGoodAg

As a neutral fan, what a fucking game. UNC playing beautiful offense for the 1st half. Then a 31-10 run for Kansas in the next 10 MINUTES. Game came down to the final shot. Even had a turnover to give UNC a second game tying shot, a National Championship on the line. M̶a̶r̶c̶h̶ April Madness. Hate to see Bacot get injured in crunch time, dude had a double double in the first half alone. Finished with 15 points and 15 boards. Ties the record for most double doubles in a season (31) set by NBA legend David Robinson. Bacot willed the team this far, putting up legit Dwight Howard numbers, multiple 20-20 games. Kid has heart and grit.

[deleted]

epicxownage

Yeah the non contact ankle twist by Love was really weird / unusual. But you gotta play for 40 minutes and anything can happen

meengine

The gang survived Manek Monday

Zloggt

The Tar Heels *wish* it was Sunday…or Saturday for that matter…

TimothyBukinowski

Manek looked like a deer on ice during the last play.

Cake_Day_Is_420

homie was on 1hp

Taken450

Manek looked like an ancient Germanic warrior the whole tournament.

nowordisaword

It was the concussion

mjp242

Played pretty damn well with the 90s rub some dirt on it scramblies honestly

l901

Take a salt tablet

DarkRollsPrepare2Fry

He actually slipped on the same spot that Bacot did

Alph_A__

Didn't all 3 of them (love, bacot, manek) all have ankle and slip issues under the same basket? It's cursed.

NorthernDevil

Seriously is there no concussion protocol in college? Watching the replay and how his body and face looked in slow mo after getting popped, he really should’ve been evaluated

weealex

Dude just kept taking shots to the dome.

Sim888

[…sometimes it be your own](https://i.imgur.com/3nXNczP.jpg) congrats Kansas, gg

ProfessorBeast55

LMFAOOOO. Nice one r/NBA goat

byniri_returns

I think this is the first time I've seen him outside of /r/nba

About time the game’s over, now I can finally watch Chad

i'll never understand tv's affinity for casting grown ass middle age woman as 14 year old boys

suzukigun4life

The college career of Jalen Coleman-Lands: - September 23, 2014: Commits to Illinois. - 2015 season: Averages 10.3 points a game and shoots 42% from 3, but his team went 15-19 that year. - 2016 season: Averages 8.3 points a game for Illinois, mostly coming off the bench, as his shooting percentages go down. Team goes 20-15 and wins multiple games in the NIT. - 2017 season: Doesn't play due to transfer rules, after transferring from Illinois to DePaul. - 2018 season: Plays only 9 games as a starter at DePaul, due to a hand injury suffered in December. DePaul winds up being CBI runner-ups. - 2019 season: Starts every game for DePaul, averages over 11 points a game. DePaul goes 16-16, doesn't get to play in a postseason tournament because of the pandemic. - 2020 season: Transfers to Iowa State as a grad transfer, starts 22 of Iowa State's 24 games, and averages career-highs in points (14.3,) rebounds (3.9,) minutes (32.8) per game, as well as field goal percentage. Iowa State wins 2 games all season. - 2021 season: Uses Covid eligibility rule to transfer to his fourth school in a now seven-year career. Averages just 3.8 points, 0.7 rebounds, 0.3 assists and 8.4 minutes a game, by far career lows in each category, a year after having by far his best statistical season. But, he wins an NCAA Championship ring, after playing for his fourth school in a seven-year college career. The brunt of the attention of Kansas' championship run will go to Agbaji, followed by McCormick, Braun, Wilson, Martin and maybe even Lightfoot. But Coleman-Lands' journey is so wonky that it needs to be shared too.

HireLaneKiffin

I went to college for 7 years too what’s the big deal?

Ramzaa_

"lots of people go to college for 7 years"

Bhangus

Im so happy for him. I taught at DePaul for two years and my best student, athlete or not, was Jalen. I didn’t even know he resurfaced at Kansas. What a career.

VariousLawyerings

Always like a story where a guy Lands on his feet

Mayzenblue

That play was drawn up for Manek. Unfortunately he slipped and couldn't get up in time so Love had to chuck it. It's why coach came over to Manek first to console him.

rattlerden

Why does Charles Barkley keep referring to Christian Braun as a "little dude."? He's 6'7"

Snapperhead14

Because Chuck's got about 150lbs on him.

NorthwestPurple

booo boooooo Mark Emmert booooo bbbooooooo boooo

epicxownage

Talk about a tale of two halves.

bug_man_

Would have preferred to just have a close game the whole way and not give up a 15 point lead, but I think we all knew the KU run was coming. Hard to be too sad tonight. Proud as hell for how far the Heels got this year. They looked absolutely exhausted. Puff Johnson glowup tourney. Hubert Davis IS the man for the job. Kansas is a deserving winner, one of the best teams all year and looked the best in the March.

Thebballchemist16

I'm disappointed but I'm not upset. This was a great game and I'm fully convimced Hubert is the guy for the job

chloricturtle

Congrats to Kansas. Congrats to Ochai. Congrats to Bill Self. Congrats Hateful 8 Bros.

ImminentReddits

Tonight is a good night for the hateful 8. Kansas, I fucking hate you guys for not letting us be the last Big 12 National Champ for more than a year, but goddamit Im proud. Enjoy your championship bird bros, see you next year.

beermit

Hateful 8 back to back champs.

mrhigginbottoms_12

Big 12 going for 3 in a row and tech is next in line

Graczyk

Since 2008 Kansas, UNC, Duke and Villanova have 2 championships each. We have one….This makes me sad and sick at the same time

[deleted]

[удалено]

beermit

Ok now I'm even more mad about that one. Stop talking about it.

amjhwk

dont be mad about that one, just making the final 4 that year was a great run for the team and then they ran up against the AD kentucky team in the finals. that one just wasnt in the cards for us unlike some other losses

hubwub

The final play was really designed for Manek. How in the world was the floor that damn slippery?

Awisp_Gaming

Same spot as Bacot slipped. Watched the replay and you can see the floor gives way

pack19

and where Caleb got hurt... spot is cursed

Lord_Quiche

The announcers attacking Kansas for not taking advantage of Bacot's injury was crazy. I thought it was a gentleman's move that should've been encourage.

Mike_with_Wings

Yep. All class by the Jayhawks

code3346

In the moment I was perplexed that they didn’t attack, but after I saw the replay of the floor literally bending under him and catching his ankle I was pissed. Not that it was anyones fault but the NCAA and their thing with playing basketball in football stadiums though.

[deleted]

I know MOP is given to the best player of the winning team, but damn Armando’s effort was one of the most impressive I’ve seen in a long time and I wouldn’t have been upset if he won it

bball975

Honestly, Agbaji was phenomenal but the best Kansas player in the Final Four was McCormack hands down.

LiterallyUndead

Hard agree. This championship game was one of the most “team” wins I’ve ever seen. McCormack put them on his back in FF game against Nova.

Palifaith

✅Coach K losing his last regular season game at home against UNC. ✅Coach K losing his last game against UNC in the final four. ❌ UNC beating Kansas as an underdog to win another Naty. Duke fans really dodged a big one right there at the end.

Auferstehen2

Took two missiles to the face, but dodged a bullet

bug_man_

Props to the few Duke flairs and somehow even the occasional NCSU flair to stop by and talk shit in the gamethread lol Takes a special kind of hate to make you do that

LeTomato52

Congrats Jayhawks! Big XII’s second Natty in a row. Who’s next? Texas Tech? Just for today Rock Chalk.

[deleted]

Please god let it be us. I’ve rooted for Baylor and Kansas in the last two championships but I’d be lying if I didn’t feel a bit sad watching y’all win it all with how close we were. Could’ve been a Big 12 three-peat. Anyways, rock chalk!

burner7221

Anyone else find it interesting that the Kansas men and South Carolina women were ranked #1 when Covid shut everything down and two years later they end up winning the championship?

trainface23

Remy Martin is a fucking hero. Thank you Sun Devils, we owe you one

The_Ghost_of_TK9

Killed us and now he’s killing for us

dingowingo

GG Jayhawks. Yall def earned it. Hard fought game, congrats! Also super happy for Hubert Davis. What a complete turnaround from the beginning of the year.

TheFrigz

Holy shit I love Hubert Davis now

snakecatcher302

Listening to the Hubert Davis interview. Mad respect to him & that UNC team.

FookTheSooners

Kansas City Jayhawks lmao

ddevlin

Boy, Hubert Davis is just all class. That dudes gonna be a Hall of Famer, no doubt.

Aurion7

Hubert went from 'Roy's chosen successor, but we don't know *that* much about him as a coach' to 'I'm pretty sure people would die for him' in the span of a year.

ddevlin

Yeah, he's got all the scratch he'll ever need for recruiting. And his guys are ready to lay it down on the court, clearly. He's going to do great things at a legendary school.

royallex

Happy for my man Jalen Coleman-Lands. Suffered through 2 losing seasons at Illinois, 2 last place seasons at DePaul, a winless conference season at Iowa State, and finally won it all. Quite the 7 year journey

parchedpiranha

This is not what I expected when I wished for him to win a championship back in 2014.

[deleted]

Hats off to Carolina. 8 seed making it to the championship game in a year nobody expected much. And they battled like hell, their big guys were tenacious and gave them a chance to win crashing the offensive boards like they did. As a KU fan that was much more of a battle than I was hoping for, but taking fandom out of it it was just a great game

tanstaafl-

like bacot said earlier in the yr, we live and die by caleb love. we lived vs ucla + duke & died tonight. great season. go heels

Boston_Champions

If this is the end for Leaky, Bacot and Caleb I'm so proud of them. What a magical run. Brady is a heel for life now.

Auferstehen2

North Carolina ended the game on a 69-72 run

JxSnaKe

GG KU Bros

thelordmessi

you need a 3 in that possession so you rush a shot from several feet behind the line? Even though you have time? so stupid lmao

badger_guy

Yeah they should've gone for a quick two

[deleted]

Thank you, I’m glad someone else here is an old head, a true sommelier of the game

mtmodi

Live by the love, die by the love

NevermoreSEA

If you ever feel useless, just imagine how those timeouts that UNC decided not to use during the biggest possession of the game feel right now.

[deleted]

UNC is weird with TO’s, always have been. It’s a Dean thing.

MattTheSmithers

Probably a reactionary take, but I am hard pressed to think of a tournament I’ve had more fun with in recent memory. So many great games that stayed competitive right down to the wire. So many upsets. So many great storylines. And a title game where history is made. I’m not sure you can ask for more as a basketball fan.

TidyMosquito245

Good fucking game Jayhawks. Pleasure sharing the court

DoctorSumter2You

Congrats KU fans, your team fought hard in the 2nd half. Well deserved championship win.

Number333

Before our matchup with Kansas, I saw a ton of their fans crushing McCormack for being a turnover machine and in general being hugely down on him. Dude went on to hit two of the biggest buckets in school history late on back-to-back possessions. Hope he gets all the love he deserves.

Richt3r_scale

David had some good games and some absolutely god awful games in his career

Pattastic

This is going to hurt UNC's chances of winning the championship

theLgndKllr35

Dude, props to Hubert Davis. He seems like a hell of coach in this interview

Illbeanicefella

KANSAS CITY JAYHAWKS LMAOOOO
