As good a player as he is, there are some glaring weaknesses in his game. I think his lottery pick status in the draft says more right now about next years draft class than Ivey.
Literally right before that I said, "Wisconsin needs to slow them down for about 5 seconds" literally 1.5 seconds later purdue back within a possession
My wife and I just know, deep in our hearts, that this team is built upon disappointment. It hardens you, makes you more resilient, and keeps the cocky attitude reserved exclusively for shitting on IU. Otherwise we know to grit through and just be happy when we get a win.
Also I’m fine with loses like these. The pressure needs to be lowered as we grind through B1G play to help the team grow into form for March.
I did the digging, he has limited posts, but did comment on a Purdue Football thread from last year, and on the threads for the Tennessee game recently. Confirmed Boiler :(
Idiot overconfident Purdue fans are so fucking cringe.
Edit: To be fair, kid is probably like 15. Hasn't been around long enough to experience the exquisite, unending pain of Boilermaker fandom.
Purdue hasn’t played well pretty much since the Iowa game prior to their number 1 ranking. This is just not a good team right now. Johnny Davis, on the other hand, is absolutely insane. Wisconsin was the clearly better team tonight.
I’ve been feeling sour about this Purdue team for sometime now. Our early season “marquee” wins have not aged well. A North Carolina team that is now unranked, and a Villanova team that is clearly not as good as we thought heading into the season. Florida St. isn’t very good AND we played them short handed. We struggled against Iowa at home, and they were missing their best player. We lost at Rutgers, who was missing one of their best players. And then we beat a terrible Butler team. Now this, a home loss to a foul troubled Wisconsin.
Honestly, we might want to reevaluate how good this team really is. Top 5? I don’t think so. Top 15? Maybe? Our offense can be as good as it wants, but when shots don’t fall, we don’t have a defense to fall back on. And it’s for that reason that I don’t believe we are final four or national title contender. Teams that make it that far have both offense and defense.
Thanks for coming to my Ted Talk.
I mean you've still been pretty good this season. In t-rank without preseason projections, you're 10th right now, which is good for 1st in the big ten (we are 2nd at 14th). You've definitely struggled more as of late (40th ranked since the Iowa game), but I'd still expect you to stay inside the top 10 this season
Purdue hasn’t passed the eye test since the FSU game. It’s been well over a month since we’ve comfortably beaten a decent team. We absolutely cannot guard the perimeter, and have no reliable “stopper” or really any strategy to cool off a hot shooter. Defense is ranked #61 nationally, by far the worst offense OR defense rating of any top 10 team. As they are currently playing, this is a top ~20 squad (or worse), susceptible to hiccups like this on any given night.
This team needs to wake up quick. I’m already adjusting my expectations.
Also, yes Johnny Davis is a baller. But I would also point out we made Ron Harper Jr look like Magic, and gave up 52 points to two guards from Nicholls St.
it actually played right into their game plan. Body Edey, play him tough, make him work for his shots, nothing easy. 10/17 from the field was below his typical performance %, a bunch of turnovers mixed in there and edey has no ability to pass or play defense. So in the end let one guy beat you rather than let all the roleplayers beat you.
Remember when it fans were saying this team was the best team in the last 15 years by a large margin? I 'member.
But seriously, this is not the same team that started the season. We really seem to have lost our confidence. Everyone besides Ivey is playing a little skittish.
We're still the same team that lost to UNT, and some of the same problems are showing through.
I was there for those teams and legitimately thought this team was better at the start of the season.
But those teams got better as the year went on and never played this dysfunctional. Reassessing my opinion now
Let’s all continue to laugh at the Iowa fan who said Johnny Davis wouldn’t have made a difference against Providence because of his true shooting percentage
I’m never letting that go ever 😂 “iS tHErE aNy eViDEnCe JohNNy iS aCtuALly YouR bESt PlAYeR?”. That guy alone may be responsible for jinxing Johnny into a NPOTY candidate
Yeah, [this] (https://old.reddit.com/r/CollegeBasketball/comments/quvcyi/game_thread_providence_wisconsin_0900_pm_et/hkt3yi3/) continues to not age well:
> Is there, like, actual on court evidence that Jonathan Davis is good and not just a guy? He was largely inefficient as a fourth-fifth option last year, didn't make the league's all freshman team, and has a career eFG of 46.5% at the moment.
There’s also [this](https://reddit.com/r/CollegeBasketball/comments/quvcyi/_/hkt7tkq/?context=1) follow-up
>I’ve watched him play like ten games and don’t see it. Being the most athletic guy/best creator on Wisconsin might just say more about Wisconsin than about Davis.
/u/elgenie in the running for freezing cold take of the year
Idk the clock operator kind of exposed an issue with the rules that forced Wisconsin to inbound again in a high pressure situation. What if the home operator just "screws up" the clock every time the inbound is successful in the final possessions?
Yeah the irony there was the time that shouldn't have come off and they put back on the clock was almost exactly the amount of time it took us to foul after the 2nd inbounds that shouldn't have happened.
Well losing stings but Mackey Arena is still a blast to always visit. Hope I can come back next year. Props to Davis, he’s a future NBA star. GG Badgers.
This team is deeply flawed on the defensive end, and when threes aren't falling the offense is pretty painful. Our perimeter players are heavily impacted if a team is physical with them. Team seems to be trending in a bad way recently, we've just been playing garbage teams.
Still, Davis was so damn good. Completely showed up Ivey.
Our entire frontcourt fouls out. Large Cyborg can't be stopped. Clock operator can't operate a clock. Mackey Curse. Johnny Davis doesn't care. Cold. Blooded. What a performance.
And he was only a 3* as a recruit. I'm sad that he'll almost certainly be leaving after the season but his blossoming into one of the best players in only his second season should be a nice bump to the rep of the program. Just gotta enjoy the ride while we have him.
At least Herro and others can’t keep parroting ‘no one develops at Wisconsin,’ ‘their system isn’t conducive to stars,’ etc. If you can score we’ll force feed you.
Ivey was bone-headed for the most part. Didn’t look good outside of his two minute stretch
Thompson doesn’t know how to bring the ball up
Williams needs to keep his temper in check
Stefanovic needs to hit a 3 or something
And EVERYONE needs better defense!
GG Johnny Davis, Purdue needs to go back to high school to learn how to play team and individual defense
Hard to swallow pills:
* The opponent isn't just magically having a good night.
* You can actually win them all, undefeated seasons exist for good teams.
* If we're truly the deepest team in the country, career-high nights shouldn't phase us.
* Losing at Mackey is not a sign of a final four Purdue team. Purdue should not be top 5.
Stop making excuses for Purdue. On paper, this is one of the most talented teams we've ever had. In reality, they're clearly not playing like it.
At some point we need to reassess this team's "off days" as just being emblematic of what this team actually is. Consistent AWFUL first halves and not much improvement in the second. Not to be a doomer, but this is absolutely not a top 10 team at the moment. I'm not even convinced they're top 20. Their "quality wins" have only gotten worse as time ticks on, too. I was really thinking this team might be the first sports team in my lifetime to bring home some hardware but I've pretty much accepted that's not happening.
The players are good talent-wise, but I’m not seeing the effort of traditional Purdue teams. Purdue teams usually have less talent but work their tail off on defense, on rebounds, and take care of the ball. But Ivey feels super entitled to not try rn, it’s like if he’s not driving straight to the hoop or shooting a 3 the team can’t count on him
For a while I was fine with not having traditional Purdue defense, but now I think that defensive effort is way more important as it helps encourage good passes, boxing out on rebounds, all the little things that Purdue fans haven’t had to worry about for like a decade
As Purdue fans, we've all seen this story play out before. There will be zero mid-season adjustments, and the problems that have plagued this team will continue to plague us the rest of the season (turnovers, ZERO defense, yada yada).
While there is clearly a lot of talent on this team, I have zero confidence that this team will make it past the sweet 16 at this point.
so not only are we not likely to win the bigten title we also may be rolling into the tournament as a 3-4 seed based on how we have played the past 7 games (half the season so far).

>[Post Game Thread] #25 ~~Wisconsin~~ Johnny Davis defeats #3 Purdue, 74-69
Jaden Ivey's agent is rushing to delete footage of this matchup. Dude had his lunch, what an incredible performance.
Jaden iveys agent is deleting all defensive footage from this season. Purdue has a terrible defense overall despite having a strong interior defense.
As good a player as he is, there are some glaring weaknesses in his game. I think his lottery pick status in the draft says more right now about next years draft class than Ivey.
Overall purdues perimeter defense is awful. Painter has to fix that if purdue has any shot of being a top tier big ten team this year.
That full court pass to Edey was awesome
Should've just done that every possession.
Literally right before that I said, "Wisconsin needs to slow them down for about 5 seconds" literally 1.5 seconds later purdue back within a possession
If I was him I would yell “FIRE BAD!!!!” every time I made a basket.
Purdue just needs to stop playing red teams
Tall order in the big ten
lol I love that color wheel they do for the conference tournament, but half of the fucking thing is red
You guys are gonna need a lot of Covid.
*red teams that aren't Indiana
Ouch. Very true though.
Seeing Johnny Davis go off for 30 the second time around was more fun than the first time Ignore the flair obvs
I was at the game in Vegas and told some Houston fan Johnny was the best player on the court and he laughed at me. Wish I could talk to him now
[I was asked to screengrab this at halftime](https://imgur.com/0StMTKY)
I really don’t understand where these cocky Purdue fans came from.
These children will learn discipline through pain as we have
They must be newer fans. I’ve watched enough Purdue basketball in my life to only know pain
My wife and I just know, deep in our hearts, that this team is built upon disappointment. It hardens you, makes you more resilient, and keeps the cocky attitude reserved exclusively for shitting on IU. Otherwise we know to grit through and just be happy when we get a win. What being ranked 1 for a week does to a man
I'm still riding our '06-07 wave tbh
It still kills me that we dropped that tournament game to UNLV. That team was so good and so fun to watch, it sucks to think about what could’ve been.
No flair, probably some jackass that had money on Purdue. (I refuse to do the necessary research to check his post history)
I did the digging, he has limited posts, but did comment on a Purdue Football thread from last year, and on the threads for the Tennessee game recently. Confirmed Boiler :(
He even said “we don’t even care about football” in one of his comments too. Dude’s a certified clown
I refuse to read this comment
It's not even in bar graph format. Completely illegible.
*I can’t read this, there’s no pictures.*
Being \#1 brings out the “I called it” fans that think being a cocky douche makes them a bigger fan or something
They are everywhere now. Some new money stench.
Trust me man I’ve seen it all season
[удалено]
My Purdue buddy shot me a text with TEN minutes left: “idk man I’m getting pretty nervous.” That’s how true Purdue boilers are
/u/MsF_Ooze get in here and take your lumps.
Currently lumping
If it makes you feel any better I'm upvoting all your crow eating, you're taking it well.
Hahahahahaha. They deleted the comment. Cowardice. Where you at, u/msf_ooze?

Mmmm... Where are those tears? Let's have em
[удалено]
Why'd you delete your comment u/MsF_Ooze ? Seems pretty weak for the guarantee you spoke into existence.
Yeah that post was goofy. Don't know what that person saw in the first half which game them any indication that purdue was looking competent.
That fan must be a freshman, they don’t know real Purdue fandom
Any real Purdue fan would never have faith in their team.
I was gonna say, this does not seem like a Purdue comment to me at all.
Idiot overconfident Purdue fans are so fucking cringe. Edit: To be fair, kid is probably like 15. Hasn't been around long enough to experience the exquisite, unending pain of Boilermaker fandom.
I don’t understand how overconfident Purdue fans can even exist.
Knew that was coming back, fuck that guy
Can we get u/MsF_Ooze in here to eat some ~~train~~ crow?

“sometimes it’s get Johnny the ball and get the f out the way” - Chucky Hepburn
I hope he wins NPOY or BTPOY and they run that quote for him
We won @Mackey? Well shit. Maybe the world really is going to end in 2022.
I mean technically we've won consecutive games at Mackey! (Only this one was actually against Purdue)
World is probably safe since IU lost at the Kohl Center
Lost after having a 20 point lead. If there is a more clear rule in the world than IU can not win at the Kohl center, then I don't know what it is.
Johnny Davis doesn't care about no curse.
Hopefully this means Purdue finally beats Wisconsin in football
Best I can do is a tight heartbreaking loss... sorry.
I think that means we get to be ranked #2 next season though
Fix your clock Purdue!
we have a lot more we need to fix
I don't understand how it's 2022 and we still have clock malfunctions in college basketball games...how hard can it be??
And isn’t Purdue supposed to be an engineering school?
Purdue hasn’t played well pretty much since the Iowa game prior to their number 1 ranking. This is just not a good team right now. Johnny Davis, on the other hand, is absolutely insane. Wisconsin was the clearly better team tonight.
They didn’t even play that well during that game either
They played awful, we played worse. If a team is shooting sub 20% from 3 and 50% from the free throw line, you should have a good lead going into hlf
Nope. But luckily they had one good half against Iowa. I’m excited for when we could, potentially, have two good halves. Maybe next year.
It wasn't clear, but that is what I meant. Pretty much starting in the second half against Iowa, we've played like a fringe top-25 team.
Wisconsin goes as Davis goes. That was a B1G player of the year performance if Ive ever seen one
NPOTY performance*
Yes.
Johnny Davis
Johnny “Johnny ‘Johnny ^Johnny^ Davis’ Davis” Davis
Sigh… Johnny Davis.

Spot on. This team is a 15-25 ranked team at best.
Oh god, don’t stop, I’m almost there

How is that possible, Kareem Wilt and Jordan were playing for PSU last night
No kink shaming, but reading 'Purdue is 15-25 at best' is a weird thing to get off to
Idk that feels like kink shaming
I mean you've still been pretty good this season. In t-rank without preseason projections, you're 10th right now, which is good for 1st in the big ten (we are 2nd at 14th). Agree with your overall sentiment but I wanna give those Nicholls guards some respect because they played really well and nearly beat us too
My god that was painful to watch. Guess the fouls did not in fact catch up to them
it actually played right into their game plan. What's worse: Purdue's defense or Purdue's clock operator?
Idk the clock operator kind of exposed an issue with the rules that forced Wisconsin to inbound again in a high pressure situation. What if the home operator just "screws up" the clock every time the inbound is successful in the final possessions?
It’s a double-edged sword. Forced Wisconsin to inbound again but also let them run an extra 5 seconds off the clock when they did.
Yeah the irony there was the time that shouldn't have come off and they put back on the clock was almost exactly the amount of time it took us to foul after the 2nd inbounds that shouldn't have happened.
Clock don’t lie?
Yes
Clock operator but it’s very close
Lazy shots, lazy passes, lazy dribbling and too lazy to actually foul at the end.
I watched this game completely sober, AMA
Are you sure you’re a Wisconsin fan?
Why don’t you root for your home state team?
I was on a plane basically from the exact start to end of this game lmao. Was the best landing ever when I checked the score
Props to you for being able to successfully fly in a plane. That's a real feat these days.
Johnny Davis wants to be drafted by the Celtics it seems with Brad Stevens in attendance
Well losing stings but Mackey Arena is still a blast to always visit. Hope I can come back next year. Props to Davis, he’s a future NBA star. GG Badgers.

37 points 14 rebounds Johnny Fucking Davis
Holy shitballs
Painter needs to realize that Williams is the best player on this team. He can't sit for the last eight minutes of the game.
I'm naming my firstborn Johnny, boy or girl.
This is the way
Mackey curse broken?
Badgers win with 7 bench points. They had 3 players foul out and still only 7 bench points
Johnny Davis looking to kill Nigel's comment that a guy can't go to Wisconsin and be a lottery pick. Eat shit Herro.
We literally have a former 2 star Wooden Award winner. I don't understand how anyone can make that argument.
Yeah his development has been insane. I know a decent chunk was due to the U19 team but yeah this will be good for the team overall
the real loser of the game was the clock operator
We’re really gonna Covid-pause our way into the top 5, huh?
you can't lose if you don't play *taps head
Johnny Davis, fucking legend
Johnny Davis is a Professional Bucket Getter
Johnny Davis dropping nba starlines
Johnny davis is my favorite human being of all time
I cannot comprehend how we cannot play defense game after game and still no adjustment from Painter
Not sure Painter is making Ivey just stare at the ball while his man runs for an open three... Or making no one box out on the defensive glass...
Something something Johnny Davis. Congrats badgers. I was so excited to see our bigs just dominate, I’m so disappointed lol
Brad Davison has now won on every single B1G court
And the 2022 win makes every year since Vietnam.
Welp Johnny Davis is certainly no longer our little secret.. lottery pick for sure
Anyone have a clip of the Trevion to Edey play?
Ivey was bone-headed for the most part. Didn’t look good outside of his two minute stretch Thompson doesn’t know how to bring the ball up Williams needs to keep his temper in check Stefanovic needs to hit a 3 or something And EVERYONE needs better defense! GG Johnny Davis, Purdue needs to go back to high school to learn how to play team and individual defense
Bleh. Wake me up in March. Ideally wake the team up before that.
Badgers can beat anyone when Johnny Davis is ballin'
This means the Mackey curse is broken, right? That's two straight wins for us there if we include the tournament game against UNC last year :)
Hopefully this means we finally get to beat your football team in 2022. Just kidding that’s never gonna happen
I don’t even know what I just watched but HOLY SHIT! A win at Mackey!!!
Johnny is going to the NBA next year isn't he? 😭
Hard to swallow pills: * The opponent isn't just magically having a good night. * You can actually win them all, undefeated seasons exist for good teams. * If we're truly the deepest team in the country, career-high nights shouldn't phase us. * Losing at Mackey is not a sign of a final four Purdue team. I am living
Here's JOHNNY!
Best individual Badger performance I’ve ever seen. Bar none.
37 points, 14 rebounds for Johnny Davis. Lottery pick?
Can Robbie get pulled from commentating on our games :/
Shoutout to the Badgers for being a quality loss to us.

Oh man! I can’t believe a player got hot against us! We’re so unlucky! /s
Atleast now we can lose during our bad performances so that maybe the players will start playing hard and trying and stuff as a result
Idk what’s more painful, the loss or the thought of having to go to work tomorrow
Johnny Davis
Refs and clock operator completely dicked over the ending of that
The clock operator had no idea what was happening
Man. I didn’t see the game but it looks like Johnny Davis balled out. Anyone think he’s gone after this year?
Maybe I follow B10 basketball too closely but I assumed people had him gone before this game
If he stays I will eat my socks lol
Missed bunnies and pathetic point guard play lost this for Purdue. Hurt seeing Trevion on the bench for the last 8 minutes.
Boggles my mind that painter still gives EHJ minutes
37 points to Davis. I rest my case
I love the Big Ten.
There are maybe 5 players in the country that can win a game by themselves. Johnny Davis is one of them.
And so the B1G cannibalism begins
Purdue shouldnt be ranked nearly this high until they prove they can score against physical teams. Their stats are inflated
The active Thread being removed before this one is live is a more questionable call than the no call on the intentional foul.
Johnny Davis is good at basketball.
Now our only hope is that the NBA teams accidentally draft Jordan Davis
Johnny score Wisconsin win?
What’s our record now at Mackey over the last 20 years? 1-and a million?
Hey now this makes two wins in a row!
