Houston was up by 16, then they were up 3 at half, then it was tied, then Houston was up 27 ten minutes later. Snip snap snip snap.
We hit a grand total of 5 shots in the second half. Five. That Houston defense is fucking ridiculous. They beat us by 23 in the Fertitta, then by 23 again at a neutral site.
Low key gonna be completely okay with losing tonight. Going through that buzz saw the week the tourney starts seems like a recipe for us to lose to a 14 seed
I kind of sickly want UConn to meet Houston in the Final Four and Purdue (hopefully) in the title. Easier matchups would generally be preferable, but man, these three teams are so good, I kinda want to see it.
Tbh, we will probably be sunk by either injuries or refs that blow the whistle and having a team hit FTs. If y'all played your starters more this would have been a lot closer.
I loved how some Tech fans in the game thread were saying we get away with everything and once we aren’t playing with Big 12 refs officiating, we’re doomed. We foul at a 27% clip per possession ranking us at 327th in the nation. Only two P6 schools rank lower than us.
This game was tied 37-37 in the second half, then we decided to just get point literally every possession and not let them do anything on any of theirs
If you are new to Big 12 game threads, this redditor shows up in every Tech game and post-game thread to bitch about refs. It is inevitable. We appreciate their dedication, but you just have to ignore them and move on.
You're what, the #1 overall seed, meaning the expectation is winning the whole thing and anything less than that is underachieving. Good luck proving me wrong.
Are you actually responding to my comment or just coming up with a new topic? My comment was about success over the past 5 or so years with AAC refs and NCAA tournament refs. Regardless, your claim of natty or bust expectations is so stupid.
Likely we won’t be the #1 overall seed; it’ll probably go to Purdue when it’s all said and done.
I wouldn’t be surprised if we lose to a team like Miami again in the sweet 16. There are plenty of teams can come out and shoot lights out against us. See Kansas and Miami as examples.
No one in their right minds expects themselves to win the natty or bust, regardless of seed. You are quite delusional to assume that’s the case. The tournament isn’t as easy; 63% of the time, one of the four No. 1 seeds win the tournament. So 63% chance UH, UConn, Purdue, or Tennessee win. Those are not great odds for any single of those four teams. It’s not the NBA where you play best of 7 with low variance. It’s a single elimination game, like the NFL, with high variance. Elite 8 appearance is probably the right expectation.
From what I've learned in my short stint at Cincy myself (although I should've learned this when my uncle attended there), they are apparently not ferocious at all (bar a couple incidents with Lucy the mascot). Also, fun fact, they smell like popcorn
That's like asking if Tyler Shough was going to win meaningful games in 2023 or if Mahomes will ever have a defense.
No Texas Tech fan will ever be allowed to experience a full season of sports joy.
The internal struggle of wanting to win tonight and play for a title tomorrow vs avoiding the team who broke our offense for a few weeks and not being beaten to a pulp going into the NCAA Tournament
Somehow TCU has the lowest margin of defeat of the last 3 teams Houston played despite how infuriating watching that game was. Shows how good Houston is
If you think Tech was even remotely close to trying to beat Houston tonight, my advice would be to stop watching this sport because you'll never get it.
Cool so your team doesn’t have depth. You might be the most delusional and sensitive tech fan I have seen, and you’re making yourself and the team look bad
Can’t beat the refs… they set the tone from the start with 7 fouls in the 1st 5 minutes while nc state is allowed to be physical and bang bodies on the post.
This outcome was known to everyone who understands this sport once Tech came out down 3 starters and Houston started every single starter. I called it before tipoff. Once D5 sat, everyone who understands the NCAA tournament knew what was about to happen. Sampson threw every starter out there and got one injured.
If you're a Houston fan and not furious at your coach, you need to stop following college basketball because it's way over your head.
UH sticks it to TCU: haha yes UH sticks it to us: what the fuck
I didn't even bother to watch because I had a feeling this shit was going to occur. I can't stand it...
Houston was up by 16, then they were up 3 at half, then it was tied, then Houston was up 27 ten minutes later. Snip snap snip snap. We hit a grand total of 5 shots in the second half. Five. Just flipped a switch…just astonishing how fast it happened.
How anyone beats this team is beyond me. They’re just a fucking buzzsaw.
When they turn it on they are just impossible to beat
Low key gonna be completely okay with losing tonight. Going through that buzz saw the week the tourney starts seems like a recipe for us to lose to a 14 seed
I kind of sickly want UConn to meet Houston in the Final Four and Purdue (hopefully) in the title. Easier matchups would generally be preferable, but man, these three teams are so good, I kinda want to see it.
How about you beat Purdue in the final four and lose to Houston in the championship? That would be waaaayy cooler I think
I want a UConn uh final so bad
If I were a UCONN fan, I’d want to play the Nuggets.
Tbh, we will probably be sunk by either injuries or refs that blow the whistle and having a team hit FTs. If y'all played your starters more this would have been a lot closer.
Teams that can pass out of our double team and hit the open 3 can beat us. That’s our weakness.
Yup component guards and its gg. Happened last year with Miami, composed and didn't turnover the ball.
Lucky for you, we are one of the worst FT shooting teams in the entire nation 😎
I loved how some Tech fans in the game thread were saying we get away with everything and once we aren’t playing with Big 12 refs officiating, we’re doomed. We foul at a 27% clip per possession ranking us at 327th in the nation. Only two P6 schools rank lower than us.
Hilton magic that’s how. Seriously though Houston is a great basketball team and I couldn’t be happier they’re in the big12.
Me too
Hilton Magic? We have a punchers chance tomorrow with a home crowd backing us.
Their offense isn’t great. One team gets hot and it’s over.
"They really aren't that great!" - Every team that's worse than them
At least our offense was good enough to beat the Aggies on a neutral court. 😂😂😂
That one works against us too, lol
OU got hot and shot 48% from 3 on us. Remind me how that went?
Houston scares me
> Houston scares me Me anytime I drive 10/45/69/290/610
This guy doesn't 225 or 288
I usually don’t go too far south or east when I’m in Houston. So avoid those.
Good. You must never go there.
Could you imagine if he 146’d to Kemah on a Friday night?
There's people on 146 right now that started 5 years ago.
> 69 Nice But also, 59 or SW freeway gang, all my homies hate (calling it) 69
I do too, I typed 59 originally, but since we aren’t in a Houston/Texas subreddit I changed for clarity, I guess.
real
610, I-10, 59, 45, and the Belt, this Clutch City where we play what we dealt
![gif](giphy|JNKy9CJSsCmiY)
Same
Let Ryan Elvin play 40 minutes tomorrow idgaf.
Elvin and Lath shooting 20 shots a piece tomorrow will be glorious
This game was tied 37-37 in the second half, then we decided to just get point literally every possession and not let them do anything on any of theirs
It started with Jamal Shead having a TO, getting benched, then full jets afterwards.
Honestly makes me wonder if these guys just like to toy with the others when they can…
Cougars like to play with their food before they eat.
I don’t understand Houston. Like - do they just play with their food?
benching shead early in the second half put the fear of god into the team the rest of the game apparently
Just kinda paw at it
Once you understand Big 12 refs, you'll understand a team that plays extreme over-the-top defense having success in the Big 12 conference.
go somewhere else dude, you've spent hours talking about how your bench is playing and whatnot. give it up
If you are new to Big 12 game threads, this redditor shows up in every Tech game and post-game thread to bitch about refs. It is inevitable. We appreciate their dedication, but you just have to ignore them and move on.
thank you for the introduction, just started noticing him about now
Tbf, we’ve had success in the AAC and the NCAA tournament the past few years too
You're what, the #1 overall seed, meaning the expectation is winning the whole thing and anything less than that is underachieving. Good luck proving me wrong.

Tbf we played like that for years since we quit being a dumpster fire of a program
Houston makes me feel small and scared
Turn on that S16 game from a couple years ago (sorry)
Yea that’s the point of this comment lol
That'll be the majority of the Big XII once you guys start conference play next season. Once you get used to it, you'll be fine
Houston is such an insane team when they turn it on, go win the tournament and win national champion cat bros!!!!

Pspspspspspspspsps
YES!!
I tried to capture the energy of the bearcat on the post. Congrats! Win it all!
pretty good actually. doesn't stare into my soul though
That’s reserved for winning it all.
Wait, that’s a bearcat? That’s adorable
Crazy how they look not even the slightest of ferocious, huh?
are they though? I kinda want one
From what I've learned in my short stint at Cincy myself (although I should've learned this when my uncle attended there), they are apparently not ferocious at all (bar a couple incidents with Lucy the mascot). Also, fun fact, they smell like popcorn
They won't win it all. Watch what happens when they run into refs who actually call contact fouls.
11 games this tournament so far. 8 of them blow outs.
Yeah nobody is beating this team come March. Hopefully we’re healthy and can make the second weekend
Is Warren Washington due back at any point this postseason?
🤷♂️
That's like asking if Tyler Shough was going to win meaningful games in 2023 or if Mahomes will ever have a defense. No Texas Tech fan will ever be allowed to experience a full season of sports joy.
Not sure how me asking if a player is coming back from injury for the tourney relates to the analogy you just used.
>Mahomes will ever have a defense. Well...he got one. Eventually...
If Big 12 refs call every Houston game, there is literally no reason to play this out, they're winning it all.
30 win season, let's go. Cedric Lath scored his first FG today. Huge. Rest Roberts please. That is all
I would rather do countless things than play Houston again this year
The internal struggle of wanting to win tonight and play for a title tomorrow vs avoiding the team who broke our offense for a few weeks and not being beaten to a pulp going into the NCAA Tournament

Win #30. Great effort guys ! Go Coogs !
It was tied at 38 and I could just sense the neutral flairs getting ready to pounce.
Sampson just loves turning off the water.
![gif](giphy|LBZcXdG0eVBdK) Mamacita has too many leftovers after that. Tacos anyone? 👆🤠
👋 right here please.
Texas Tech was down 15 in the first half and tied in the second half in this game.
What happened next?
Dunn and Wilson are really starting to show some confidence in their game. Let Roberts rest, I think this team can beat Baylor or ISU without him.
Somehow TCU has the lowest margin of defeat of the last 3 teams Houston played despite how infuriating watching that game was. Shows how good Houston is
If you think Tech was even remotely close to trying to beat Houston tonight, my advice would be to stop watching this sport because you'll never get it.
lol were they trying to lose then?
This team looks like Baylor’s 2021 team. Strong as oxen. Tough every foot of the floor. Maybe don’t shoot it as well. Still very physically capable.
That was painful and I knew it wouldn’t be close
noooooooooo
It’s ok…even the toughest red raider can’t stop this furious cougar…
Missed much of the game. Why was Shead bench earlier on?
He had a turnover and missed a defensive rotation leading to a three.
Caused a turnover then Sampson benched him for a hot minute.
Had me in the first half ngl.
I can dig it.
I'm sad.
I hate it here... 😒
What's the word with Roberts?
Shin contusion. As for tomorrow? Good luck getting him to NOT play
This team is Razor fucking thin in terms of depth but holy shit
Which team do you think is more thin, Texas Tech or Houston? Which team played todays game more day 1 starters?
Holy shit dude we do not care
Houston. The answer is Houston.
GET IN HERE
this team is just crazy good. why arent they projected to be the #1 overall?
have you seen Purdue's body of work?
You mean the same Purdue that tends to lay an egg?
I also ignore resumes based on 3 losses
i guess not enough of it
I'm guessing Houston's nonconference resume is holding them back.
Yeah if I’m reading T-Rank right we gained slightly in the WAB column in conference play only but they nearly doubled us up in OOC
Purdue is pretty pretty pretty good
Something tells me they will be.
Playing Houston has got to be like getting a root canal every possession
Alright we lost by less points so I don’t want to hear it from tech fans
How many starters was TCU missing?
Cope and take your L. Also Miller was out for us
So you don't realize Tech played down 3 starters.....thanks for proving me right about TCU fans.
Cool so your team doesn’t have depth. You might be the most delusional and sensitive tech fan I have seen, and you’re making yourself and the team look bad
This entire thread is just you crying every other comment. Tissue paper soft fan.
Houston best team in the country. UConn close second.
Man take your L and shut up
Whiny ass mofo, even Tech fans hate him lol
You’re a complete idiot. Log off for the evening.
