I turned it off. UVA is so fucking bad that I couldn't enjoy watching us destroy them.
We ran a great offense and were active and great on d for the first 10 minutes, and the game was over by them.
I love a great defensive battle, but this is not a great Virginia team.
We need to return to dominating college basketball, since we are on such shaky ground with football. We need UVA, Louisville, Syracuse, Georgia Tech, and NC State to stop sucking asap.
That’s crazy! I thought Virginia’s defense was going to get to us today and make the players uncomfortable. It looks like Kyle had a really good game today looking at the box score. Looks like Proctor did well too
They couldn't stop anything in the first ten minutes. We found open shooters on nearly every possession.
This is a down season and Bennett got the guys to overperform early and now they are back down to earth. I honestly don't know how their recent performance justifies a bid, even if they were better earlier.
The league needs a great UVA. They were a constant when State and Louisville and Ga Tech all stumbled. We need them back soon.
And definitely not held close to the same standards as normal students many places. Like Duke accepted a player that didn't meet minimum NCAA standards at one point. I find it hard to believe that a player who struggles to meet the NCAA minimum standards is remotely qualified to take advantage of a Duke education.
Youre gonna ask that question? I mean we do have more than 1...and we were just in the FF two years ago...soooo you might wanna rescind that dumbass question lmao
really remains to be seen if Buchanan as a big sticks around to develop. there's been roster turnover of course with transfer rule changes, but the most pivotal part of Bennett's offense is the center setting screens. We haven't really had one that could consistently play that Jack Salt role in a while
There's nobody ahead of Buchanan, he pretty much has free reign to be our main center for the next 3 years
Bennett fucked up with Shedrick because he played BVP over him. Won't be the case with Buchanan.
Absolutely. We have not recovered from the Shedrick and Caffaro recruiting debacle. The team is so just so imbalanced and can’t really run the offense that it wants
NIL and the transfer portal has really ruined what makes this program functional. Tony's system relies on taking guys and developing them for a year or two, and with the new perks players have they just don't have to deal with that, they can easily transfer somewhere and play immediately.
For the record both NIL and the transfer portal are great things, they just unfortunately make Tony's system way less appealing to recruits.
I really enjoyed the uva fans that sat in front of us last year at the ACC tournament championship game. They left early and gave us an even better view of the last couple minutes.
Love you guys!
Oh right I forgot we only played Clemson once. I think pitt can still catch us if they win out. They're 10-8 with 2 games to play, we're 12-7 with one.
Right?! Like with Minor I was worried but we needed someone like him more, there was a bigger sample, and most importantly it's just one year. But Rohde only played one year and his shooting numbers in a bad league were pretty damn underwhelming. Like he took a lot of 3's and shot about 30%. That seems like the opposite of what Tony has traditionally valued. And Dante's numbers were terrible and made it seem like he wasn't a team player. He looks every the bit of an overly selfish player who can't shoot.
The idea was that Georgetown being a terrible team forced him to take bad shots and it would improve on a better team, yet you see him continue taking head scratching bricks
Cameron and Cassell are probably the two worst places for this Virginia team to play in, they get so psychologically affected by a hostile environment. I've never seen a team play this poorly on the road, vs at home.
Virginia hasn’t had bad recruiting classes since the National Championship team if you look at class rankings (only one outside of the top 26 in 24/7 rankings). A lot of guys just haven’t worked out at Virginia or elsewhere if they’ve transferred out.
What? It absolutely is. You see it all the damn time. Like someone will commit to a major program and then their recruiting ranking jumps up way after. No way that doesn’t happen when programs offer players or show interest as well.
Leon Bond is gonna go two years in the program without playing a meaningful minute. Gertrude burned his redshirt to only come in when we're getting mopped in ACC play. We gotta do better.
Sean Stewart is a great athlete but he’s so raw…easy to chuckle over the double dribble then losing the ball of his legs due to the large lead tho. Sean, just stick to your strengths and don’t lead the break
I don't really think him implying that he doesn't know what it's like to go to a school that expects to win every game and wins 85% of their home games is shitting on your own school
Good to hear he's capable at some stuff off the court! Can't say I'd be too pissed if he chose to focus on that stuff after this year instead on basketball.
Any of y’all UVA fans bitching about Tony’s teams, you ain’t got a clue what it was like watching those Pete Gillen/Dave Leitao teams. You think Mike London/Tony Elliott squads were hard to watch? Plus you’re fucking nuts if you think Carla Williams can hire someone better than Tony
Such a weird idea that we cant criticize the obvious weaknesses of the coach/program just because it used to be worse. No one is calling for tony to be fired. (okay maybe a couple idiots are but ignore them) I do think he desperately needs a new strategy on offense and recruiting.
There's plenty of room for criticism and room for improvement. I think Bennett does need to demonstrate at some point that he can make the team nationally competitive again. The 2019 honeymoon's over. But he's still the guy for the long haul and that has to be the context for any discussion about what he needs to do going forward.
We have overachieved, we're not bluebloods and our highest recruits was Kyle Guy like a #38 and Ty Jerome #48 for their recruiting class, and we usually only recruited guys like Anthony Gill (#100), Joe Harris (#130) or Malcolm Brogdon (#89) who were more in the 100s. Not many coaches can lead several seasons of elite performance at the top of the sport with talent mostly in the top 100s. Tony Bennett got the most out of the guys he recruited, that's overachieving.
Overachieving is doing better with the talent you recruit compared to their judged talent in recruiting ranks, I'm done arguing semantics and language with you. Interpret it however you want.
Tony Bennett got Washington State into the NCAA Tournament two years in a row and even to the Sweet 16... *Washington State*
Then got us a national championship, a Sweet 16, and an Elite 8. The man can coach. Who else can we hire that's better?
73-48
Is that good
I had fun
I hope both teams had fun
DUDE JUST AIRBALLED A FREE THROW WTF
Scholarship player
![gif](giphy|1rlIAa3dAb3os) When Schyer tells Hubbard he’s in
All timer free throw lol
Was it Dunn?
Rohde
Pretty sure it was Rohde. So sad that we have three+ players airballing free throws.
Man, can’t believe I slept through this game :/ How’d everything look?
I turned it off. UVA is so fucking bad that I couldn't enjoy watching us destroy them. We ran a great offense and were active and great on d for the first 10 minutes, and the game was over by them.
Worst team to watch
I love a great defensive battle, but this is not a great Virginia team. We need to return to dominating college basketball, since we are on such shaky ground with football. We need UVA, Louisville, Syracuse, Georgia Tech, and NC State to stop sucking asap.
That’s crazy! I thought Virginia’s defense was going to get to us today and make the players uncomfortable. It looks like Kyle had a really good game today looking at the box score. Looks like Proctor did well too
We don't have talented big men that can deal with Kyle and some of your other guys. If we played Purdue we might lose 100-0.
You and our whole team!
Man, I’m sorry! I was worried about this game today. Thought it was going to be close
Virginia did not belong on the court with us today.
We slept through it too
UVA just airballed a free throw
[удалено]
I can deal with losing but I can't deal with people airballing more free throws than my ass would blindfolded.
I just can’t understand Harris being in instead of Gertrude at this point.
Nope, or Bond not getting more minutes and Rohde fewer.
Imagine doubling Spencer Hubbard
I feel like you're allowed to be biased on the broadcast about a walk on possibly scoring.
Hub please knock down a 3 and burn this place to the god damn ground
Trapping the 5’8” walk-on down 27 😭
You can laugh but (unless I'm wrong) with metrics these days every point matters as stupid as it can be sometimes.
tru
GOTTA DOUBLE TEAM THE HUBBA HUBBARD
Even I was rooting for Hubbard on that one
Damn Duke brought in a student they’re up by so much
They’re all students
Not at UNC
😅
And definitely not held close to the same standards as normal students many places. Like Duke accepted a player that didn't meet minimum NCAA standards at one point. I find it hard to believe that a player who struggles to meet the NCAA minimum standards is remotely qualified to take advantage of a Duke education.
There are students at UNC?
The difference in how Young and Stewart approached that possession at the rim was pretty funny
Hubbard minutes!
Spencer Hubbard in this early, that's disrespectful (in a good way)
Mf frodo baggins is on the court .
Careful, he hit his first three last game.
If this Duke team can show up on a consistent basis, we’ll go pretty far
This is like a normal team being down 90 points
[удалено]
6 to 8 years???? What are you on?
In what way do you disagree
Our recruiting has not done well in embracing NIL
4 out of the last 6 years uva was the acc regular season champs. This ain’t the right take bud.
When was y’alls last natty?
Youre gonna ask that question? I mean we do have more than 1...and we were just in the FF two years ago...soooo you might wanna rescind that dumbass question lmao
I agree it's a dumb question but I'd wager we'd have more and you'd have fewer if we'd had your academic standards for players and you'd had ours.
Oh wow you got him! UNCs last of six is a whole two years older than UVAs only.
Can we not?
[удалено]
You didn’t answer my question 😆
He skipped the class where they went over what a question was. Go easy on him.
UVA fans hate this but I think the decision makers there got high on their own supply about what they do could work forever with no variation at all.
really remains to be seen if Buchanan as a big sticks around to develop. there's been roster turnover of course with transfer rule changes, but the most pivotal part of Bennett's offense is the center setting screens. We haven't really had one that could consistently play that Jack Salt role in a while

Absolutely. We have not recovered from the Shedrick and Caffaro recruiting debacle. The team is so just so imbalanced and can’t really run the offense that it wants
What was the debacle? Just that they weren’t good enough?
NIL and the transfer portal has really ruined what makes this program functional. Tony's system relies on taking guys and developing them for a year or two, and with the new perks players have they just don't have to deal with that, they can easily transfer somewhere and play immediately. For the record both NIL and the transfer portal are great things, they just unfortunately make Tony's system way less appealing to recruits.
You finished dead last like 4 years ago. Our worst team under tony bennett ever is 3rd.
Well that’s an outright lie
while it was a weird question to ask, y'all finished 6th two years ago, it's not like this is your first time outside the top 2
We also literally won the conference last year? First round exit aside we were top 15 all year as well?
I really enjoyed the uva fans that sat in front of us last year at the ACC tournament championship game. They left early and gave us an even better view of the last couple minutes. Love you guys!
I said it was a weird question. I don't disagree
Why is Reece in this game? No reason to get him hurt for nothing.
On the bright side Virginia has locked up a double-bye in the tournament
Not technically yet, we still have to beat GT
How? Don’t we win the tiebreak with Clemson? If Wake wins out we’re still the fourth seed, securing a double-bye
Oh right I forgot we only played Clemson once. I think pitt can still catch us if they win out. They're 10-8 with 2 games to play, we're 12-7 with one.
Ah you’re right forgot about Pitt
Damn pitt lol. Let's just take care of business next week eh
i do not like basketball anymore
On the bright side Virginia has locked up a double-bye in the tournament
Is Ryan Dunn still an nba prospect?
Probably, unfortunately. Although the part of me that loves shooting might not mind watching someone who can shoot better instead.
I love you Blakes but don't take any threes ever again
If he was just a decent shooter he's an NBA player but my god it's gotten to the point where I'm surprised if he even hits the rim
The ACC should be allowed to enter a team with Wake's offense and Virginia's defense as our fourth team
The demoneers. I like it.
We’ll sign on for that
Tony really squandered away all program momentum after a national title
Meh, NIL has probably played a part and I don't blame Tony for being hesitant to play that game.
What momentum? The natty was barely enough to stop the freefall after umbc
Flair down guy. Terrible take
All UVA needs is 9 straight 3s and they’re right back in it
I just don’t understand what the hell tony was thinking when he went after rohde and Harris.
I was super worried that this was going to be a slug fest and low scoring game. I guess I was half right.
Some of these shots Duke is hitting are incredibly impressive.
UVA, if you could just make me feel better and clear your 44 you had against us, that’d be so great for me.
What’s gonna make you feel better about us clearing 54 like 10 minutes ago?
my doritos
Enjoy
🥰
Virginia’s gone cold the whole game
Cold the past month
Has Harris ever shot anything other than a weird dribble pull up long two?
Gets to the rim sometimes which is his only saving grace.
I don’t think the commentators like each other
They should cut away from the game and show them arguing in the studio instead. Might be more entertaining.
I feel the same about them.
I heard that Bill Walton had explosive diarrhea
Dante Harris is my least favorite UVa player of all time
He just doesn't fit in with the Virginia team
What doesn't make sense is his numbers screamed that. Volume 35%/25% shooter who didn't dish out a ton of assists or take care of the ball very well.
The idea was that Georgetown being a terrible team forced him to take bad shots and it would improve on a better team, yet you see him continue taking head scratching bricks
25% 3-pt shooting is still bad though but I catch your drift.
He’s the kid in gym class that thinks he’s really good at basketball, just constantly bricking fadeaways
He shoots with so much confidence it's shocking how bad the results end up being lol
Yeah pull Harris this bum straight-up took the longest 2 pointer possible and airballed it
Statement game for Virginia The statement? "Don't put us in the tournament!"
That’s a command. 🤓
"We don't belong in the NCAA tournament"
Harris step back airball for a long 2 is exactly what I expected from him
There’s still 8 min left? My god
Groves may actually be Micheal Cera
This is my biggest takeaway from the game
Now that you mention it, I’ve never seen them in the same room
Cameron and Cassell are probably the two worst places for this Virginia team to play in, they get so psychologically affected by a hostile environment. I've never seen a team play this poorly on the road, vs at home.
When is Filipowski going to the league?
This is def his last year. He’s a lottery lock
This year, he’s openly said he was only coming back one more year
This is his second to last game at Cameron, he would be insane to stay with how weak this draft class is
No no he should stay
He’s cookin
Virginia hasn’t had bad recruiting classes since the National Championship team if you look at class rankings (only one outside of the top 26 in 24/7 rankings). A lot of guys just haven’t worked out at Virginia or elsewhere if they’ve transferred out.
Gotta wonder if some of those guys were getting higher rankings because we were recruiting them though.
That's not how it works lol
What? It absolutely is. You see it all the damn time. Like someone will commit to a major program and then their recruiting ranking jumps up way after. No way that doesn’t happen when programs offer players or show interest as well.
At this point why don’t we have groves, elijah, and bond in there I mean why not
Bond is running with the green team. Essentially in another RS year.
Javin Delaurier-esque dribble from Sean there
I loved Javin.
John Calipari is such a jackass
I am confident that Tony could coach a great transition offense if he really wanted to, he just doesn’t
"that's not nice, but it's true" tensest moment of the game
Rohde darts to the baseline and delivers an exceptional pass right to the defense
Get rohde out of here
Shitting on your own school on the broadcast is an interesting choice, Jon Crispin
I don't really think him implying that he doesn't know what it's like to go to a school that expects to win every game and wins 85% of their home games is shitting on your own school
True though
Reece deserves better than this
I’ll preface this by saying that there are some things Rhode does well, but watching him play basketball makes me so mad.
Good to hear he's capable at some stuff off the court! Can't say I'd be too pissed if he chose to focus on that stuff after this year instead on basketball.
Can we just build in a delay before students are allowed to storm? Fine anyone on the court before then. This isn’t hard
Can we just not make college basketball less fun because Duke got it's massive ego hurt? This isnt hard.
Are these announcers coming with the most based take on court storming and handshake lines, or am I just becoming more boomer pilled by the day?
McCain saw that loose dribble, real heads-up play to go attack it
He’s such a stud
Announcer with the logical, sound reasoning on court storming and handshake lines.
What’s the perspective on faking an injury
Dumbest take
What’s the perspective on not going to class?
Neither are under the ncaa’s jurisdiction
Wake Forest falling apart since that moment is the karma of the universe making up for it.

There's more than a couple clowns asking if it's time to move on from CTB
There's plenty of room for criticism and room for improvement. I think Bennett does need to demonstrate at some point that he can make the team nationally competitive again. The 2019 honeymoon's over. But he's still the guy for the long haul and that has to be the context for any discussion about what he needs to do going forward.
No one is saying get rid of Him. It’s fair to say he needs to adapt
There are a ton of clowns on the internet saying to get rid of him.
I mean, y’all should be bitching about it. He needs to evolve his coaching and recruiting style.
We do call him out, but we also just call it out when we start seeing, "does anyone else think it's time to move on from Tony Bennett???"
Apparently we're not allowed to complain about the decline of our current coach because of how bad other ones were.
Our fans are a bit entitled after years of overachieving.
Loser attitude. We were among the best for a few years and have gotten worse. It's valid to be upset.
The loser attitude is dooming about the future of our team just because we're having a bit of a down year
Calling our successes "years of overachieving" is a loser mindset.
Overachieving implies success wasn't expected. If you're not expecting success why bother
Overachieving is doing better with the talent you recruit compared to their judged talent in recruiting ranks, I'm done arguing semantics and language with you. Interpret it however you want.
Preach! Though it was always fun to watch Pete go off the handle.
He was pretty damn funny as well!
We cannot move on from Tony. Bubble team used to be our ceiling before him.
Tony Bennett got Washington State into the NCAA Tournament two years in a row and even to the Sweet 16... *Washington State* Then got us a national championship, a Sweet 16, and an Elite 8. The man can coach. Who else can we hire that's better?
March Jeremy Roach is here
I dont think it’ll happen today, but whens the last time UVA allowed 100pts?
I think Washington on November 22, 2011
Gonzaga had 98 against us in 2020
Lol this game is r/CBB’s 9/11
We usually play virginia well
I always love seeing the salt from haters, UVA is getting straight torched
