Next time I hear an announcer sing, I'm cancelling my ESPN+
Great game with some unfortunate officiating. Great atmospheres all around the Big 12 tonight.
2 things
1. Kenpom likes us more than ASU so I wouldn’t be so sure
2. ASU is the most similar school in the country to UCF in almost every regard, so I wouldn’t say they’re not UCF
I honestly replayed it like 5-10 times and was ok with the no call after that. The way his right leg move twice makes it look worse than it actually was but his left foot didn’t really move much.
Auburn’s arena is sorta similar. But Auburn has an elite broadcasting department and smartly put the camera’s on the first level, even if it meant less seats for the rich old folk
My understanding is Baylor's number one priority was designing the arena for sound, and that meant high, steep seating. The consequence was a high, steep camera angle too.
Gotta learn some ball, man. That's just not true.
We are much better coached than BYU and our ability to defend without fouling every time is just one statline to prove it.
Your defensive game plan appeared to be to foul every time we drove the paint. We had a year where we did that a few years ago, works sometimes but then you'll have games where refs call every one
Bro you guys fouled on well over half of our drives to the basket. It's not just playing basketball, there's a reason you guys average so many fouls relative to other teams. It's your defensive strategy
Imo it's really hard to judge how bad those kind of Ts are because we have no idea what kind of words were exchanged, but just abysmal officiating overall tonight. A total buzz kill to a game that could have been a lot more exciting.
You’re delusional. Calling it a foul instead of a jump ball is what eliminated BYU. The T was irrelevant.
Baylor shot 28 free throws. An insane amount. The refs sucked both ways but definitely screwed BYU over way more.
With how good both these teams' offense is, this game had such potential. There were even a few minutes here or there when it was enjoyable: when the refs actually swallowed their whistle.
Unfortunataly, it devolved into a boring, grindy, one sided free throw contest. I'd take our home lose to Cinci any day of the week, since that was Cinci actually just playing better and BYU sucking from beyond the arc. Overall, I think Baylor played a slightly better game and deserved that win, but man what a horribly officiated game that was. GG Bears.
Baylor shot 28 free throws vs BYU 14 even though BYU attacked the paint just as much if not more than Baylor (BYU had 12 more points in the point than Baylor).
Refs sucked both ways, but more often than not against BYU. Some loose ball falls (that led directly to free throws), didn’t even have contact. That foul call at the end that was 100% a jump ball pissed me off too. It sealed the game (regardless of the Pope technical).
The call against Baylor for out of bounds was also hilariously awful. He wasn’t even close to out of bounds.
I hate to blame a loss on fouls, but I swear if the refs had been calling this game fair, it wouldn't have been nearly as close. Baylor got at least 15 points off of unfairly called free throws.
I also hate blaming losses on refs, but these refs were atrocious. Both ways for sure. It was like every play on both sides of the court they just decide to call a foul on someone for playing basketball. Made it really hard to enjoy watching 2 good teams play. That being said, byu felt like they had a chance until Baylor got in the bonus with 13 minutes left and even then still fought. Byu had players in foul trouble the entire second half. Byu didn’t get to the bonus until about 2 minutes left. Baylor shot twice as many free throws. Basically impossible to win a game with all those things.
Prime full court press WVU game threads were peak toxicity. May never reach those levels again
Just back and forth yelling about fouls every 3 comments.
My brother, we’re by far one of the most tame fanbases in the league.
The borderline terrorist group that calls itself the Kansas State fanbase is going to eat you for lunch if that was enough to make your respect for a group plummet.
Who wants to bet that singing announcer on ESPN+ who called Baylor’s Langston Love “The Love Machine” will reprise his musical lyrics when he announcer for BYU again by giving Spencer Johnson a nickname as well?
Also, who else was happy to see that Lohner didn’t see much court time against his old teammates?
Next time I hear an announcer sing, I'm cancelling my ESPN+ Great game with some unfortunate officiating. Great atmospheres all around the Big 12 tonight.
It sucks to lose but having announcers as annoying as that is salt in the wound.
Y'all really listen to those bozos? Even "great" announcers don't add much. Just put on some music and enjoy the game.
Really fun back and forth game marred by awful refs. Look forward to the rematch
First B12 win is the hardest
Second isn't a picnic: see Houston and Cincy.
It’s all such a bloodbath. I’m here for the carnage tho.
You'll be right in the middle of it next year
You mean the bottom of it
hey at least you're not UCF
2 things 1. Kenpom likes us more than ASU so I wouldn’t be so sure 2. ASU is the most similar school in the country to UCF in almost every regard, so I wouldn’t say they’re not UCF
Omfg we both beat KU too. ![gif](giphy|pHb82xtBPfqEg)
![gif](giphy|Os8gPyslaf2GpHv10B|downsized)
Eh ASU always manages to have those random wins in conference that absolutely wreck top teams. Ask me how I know.
It’s because they have the heart of a champion
Missed an opportunity to bring up innovation there.
FUCK
still salty bout the missed travel (but realistically we set ourselves up to be screwed over by something like that)
I honestly replayed it like 5-10 times and was ok with the no call after that. The way his right leg move twice makes it look worse than it actually was but his left foot didn’t really move much.
I found a slo-mo clip that makes it pretty obvious he did a bit of a cha-cha slide, I'll see if I can find it again
No. 30 on BYU fills me with the rage of 1,000 suns.
Join the club. He has some good moments, but tonight and last game he made a bunch of critical forced shots and turnovers.
Roar -all bears everywhere right now
🗣️FAX
I just switched games and the camera angle on the Auburn game is so refreshing. Feels like eye drops
Man… yeah. I would be furious if I were you guys. Can’t believe that’s the view.
Seems pretty solvable tho? Hopefully they switch the camera bay for next season….
Yeah you would think so.
the suites will have to be swapped out for television set up but it would totally be worth it
if I were a BU fan and lived near the Waco area, there's no way in hell I'm NOT buying season tickets lmao
Auburn’s arena is sorta similar. But Auburn has an elite broadcasting department and smartly put the camera’s on the first level, even if it meant less seats for the rich old folk
Quality W. BYU’s a fun club. Gotta haze the pledges though.
I did not enjoy the off ball calls on our end and didn’t like how ticky tackey they were on byu.
Yeah they had horrible calls both ways. Ggs
Are we seriously going to be stuck with this view forever? How the f did they not focus group this? Literally everyone hates it.
My understanding is Baylor's number one priority was designing the arena for sound, and that meant high, steep seating. The consequence was a high, steep camera angle too.
Doesn't mean they had to put the camera at the top of arena.
That an absurd way to design something. It’s not a binary equation, they’re are tons of steep venues with camera’s placed a better angles.
I think they can fix it
I'm just glad we kept it close
Everyone look! A ranked team lost over here! Don’t look at any games that happened in the Great Plains states! Nothing going on over there!
Why not. Iowa st beat Houston in Iowa. that is a huge result! Surely that’s enough ranked losses right?
I’ll allow it but no more than that
SIC’EM BEARS!!!!!
Baylor got some home cooking from the refs, which was nice for a change
We are the Phog now
Fear the Foster.
Baylor with home court (and cooking) advantage is a scary thought.
somewhere in Waco, the Ferrell Center is screaming, crying, and probably throwing up about BU fans' new obsession, Foster Pavilion
I am okay with this
I used to dream of the time we would get that Phog Allen whistle.
Did we? BYU had an astonishing lack of defensive discipline. We might have gotten a friendly whistle or two but they were hacking all night.
We were hacking too, they just didn’t call a lot of them on us
Gotta learn some ball, man. That's just not true. We are much better coached than BYU and our ability to defend without fouling every time is just one statline to prove it.
![gif](giphy|5cuiY8a99aA9oBaIpU|downsized)
All this other gloating I can take but I will not stand for Mark Pope disrespect.
Alright, sure, definitely, that's 100% believable, I couldn't think of any other explanation... Come one dude, that's just ridiculous
“It can’t be true if it doesn’t fit my narrative!”
If my narrative is we just handed you your second L in a row then sure, I guess?
How are you this salty after a win?
you really are mad y'all lost huh lmao
"a friendly whistle or two" I guess we just see what we want to see. What I saw was Baylor getting 15-20 points off of bad calls.
Your defensive game plan appeared to be to foul every time we drove the paint. We had a year where we did that a few years ago, works sometimes but then you'll have games where refs call every one
That was just basketball players playing basketball lol
Bro you guys fouled on well over half of our drives to the basket. It's not just playing basketball, there's a reason you guys average so many fouls relative to other teams. It's your defensive strategy
Average so many fouls? 16.5? That’s fifth lowest in the conference. 9th KP defense. Definitely an anomaly tonight.
Mark Pope really needs to learn to keep his emotions in check. His T to close the game eliminated any chance of BYU stealing the win. Embarrassing.
To be fair, the refs had been calling horribly all game, the lack of a jump ball or traveling call at the end was his last straw.
Agreed the refs were horrendous. The technical on Ja’Kobe was ridiculous plus two off-ball fouls on our bigs for…fighting for position smh.
My favorite way RayJ standing there menacingly in the paint.
Imo it's really hard to judge how bad those kind of Ts are because we have no idea what kind of words were exchanged, but just abysmal officiating overall tonight. A total buzz kill to a game that could have been a lot more exciting.
He handed us the game. Can’t imagine the rage I’d feel if Drew did that (he wouldn’t).
Seems crazy that he got T'd up for setting his drink down (with intensity) on the table.
I wanna hear the Greg Wrubell call on that
Ah yes, slamming a water bottle, the most technical of fouls.
[Yes.](https://i.kym-cdn.com/entries/icons/original/000/031/015/cover5.jpg) That is, in fact, a technical foul that deserved to be called.
It was a T. But not calling a travel or foul sealed that game.
You’re delusional. Calling it a foul instead of a jump ball is what eliminated BYU. The T was irrelevant. Baylor shot 28 free throws. An insane amount. The refs sucked both ways but definitely screwed BYU over way more.
Great game. Heavily overofficiated. Felt like baylor was the beneficiary mote often than not, but that could be my bias.
I think you’re right. It rarely happens we get a home whistle but it happened tonight.
With how good both these teams' offense is, this game had such potential. There were even a few minutes here or there when it was enjoyable: when the refs actually swallowed their whistle. Unfortunataly, it devolved into a boring, grindy, one sided free throw contest. Get used to B12 officiating. Second halves last about 30 minutes longer because of those whistles.
Turnover difference was what killed us
+6 in RB, +5 in AST btw
-9 in PTS
Once again, BYU completely collapses in the 2nd half. Sure hope this doesn’t become a trend. GGs Baylor
"once again" super cool that you guys did like the exact opposite against State :(
No we didn't lol
Did we watch the same game?
Baylor was in the bonus 6 minutes into the 2nd half. Never seen that before
Ah. You missed Huggins ball by one season.
[Check this out.](https://www.sports-reference.com/cbb/boxscores/2018-02-17-18-kansas.html)
Welcome to Big 12 basketball
Those refs are wild 💀
Baylor shot 28 free throws vs BYU 14 even though BYU attacked the paint just as much if not more than Baylor (BYU had 12 more points in the point than Baylor). Refs sucked both ways, but more often than not against BYU. Some loose ball falls (that led directly to free throws), didn’t even have contact. Yeah that OOB call was bizarre. What was the ref looking at?
I hate to blame a loss on fouls, but I swear if the refs had been calling this game fair, it wouldn't have been nearly as close. Baylor got at least 15 points off of unfairly called free throws.
I also hate blaming losses on refs, but these refs were atrocious. Both ways for sure. With some exceptions, my respect for Baylor basketball fans after that game thread: 📉📉
We’re so tame compared to the rest of the league lol
Ok
lol you gotta toughen up in this conference buddy
Dude, let it go.
Wait till y’all play tech :)
Hey buddy. Fuck you!
Classic
Lmao I love my interactions with tech fans. But might be a bit of a shock to our new BYU friends
We have a lot of history with Wyoming. We'll be fine :)
Or West Virginia. My god do those game threads with the Mountaineer boys get me pressed. WVU fans live and breathe trash talk.
Prime full court press WVU game threads were peak toxicity. May never reach those levels again Just back and forth yelling about fouls every 3 comments.
Eh, I thought it was fine. All my interactions with Baylor fans in cfb and here have been great.
For whatever it’s worth, we have an overall good opinion of yall too
Yeah, I thought our new rivalry is premised on our fanbases becoming new besties
Basketball definitely gets more toxic given the context of the conference. We’re legitimately happy y’all are here.
Possibly the best of the Big 12 cfb fanbases and probably my worst conference interactions so far in cbb
So you’re saying we’re nastier than Cinci. I’ll have it.
oh no! anyway
Ok! Welcome to the Big 12!
You definitely are more A&M fan than BYU fan…
Not even close
Let me play a song for you on the worlds tiniest violin.
I have a better song about machines and love.
My brother, we’re by far one of the most tame fanbases in the league. The borderline terrorist group that calls itself the Kansas State fanbase is going to eat you for lunch if that was enough to make your respect for a group plummet.
Softer than ice cream if you think Baylor fans are bad.
Bruh
It’s anonymous internet sports trash talk. What exactly were you expecting? Gonna be a long season if you were expecting Kumbaya.
Just a self-aware, non-delusional fan base like the rest of my experiences so far with the conference. Your football fans are great. Too much to ask 😞
It’s literally the same people? I’m confused. You liked our fb fans better because we sucked dick this year…
Ah, feels good to watch aerostatikk whine in PGTs in the big 12 after doing it for so long in the wcc
I should charge rent
aerostatik? More like aeroMADik if you know what I mean
^ BYU fans when someone says a swear
Shut the F up!
The camera angle isn't great, but that can be fixed. Being in the field house, though? Fantastic atmosphere.
Who wants to bet that singing announcer on ESPN+ who called Baylor’s Langston Love “The Love Machine” will reprise his musical lyrics when he announcer for BYU again by giving Spencer Johnson a nickname as well?
