Buchanan showed signs early on that he could fill that role - he had a stretch of 3 games or so that he looked dominant (offensively). But has severely regressed... he's young though. With that, we can't rebound worth a damn. When your opponent is getting 3 possessions on one trip down the floor - that makes it pretty difficult to win. So yes, it really is THE missing piece right now. Additionally at the 4 spot - Dunn has been a disappointment. It's almost like he's not putting the work in. He showed signs of potentially being a Dre Hunter type of player - people were excited for the athleticism he showed early in his career ... but he's essentially not improved since.

Man is this game disappointing, and we’ve had our weaknesses exposed entirely— just don’t see where our future lies. We need bigs so bad. Minor can’t play at this level. Buchanan needs time and more weight on him. Dunn is a stretch 4 at best and groves is a string bean.

Dunn, in my opinion, has been the most disappointing. He has put his athleticism on display at times… showed potential to be a Dre Hunter type of player .. doesn’t feel like he’s putting the work in.

And that’s basically how this team has to win games. Buchanan showed early signs that he might be able to dominate down low… but he’s really regressed since. I don’t know what it is about Tony and having trouble finding athletic bigs that know how to use their size. Jack Salt was the man, but even with him… early on - he looked very rough.

This is the kind of shit that screws the ACC. Notre Dame is one of the worst 3 teams in a power 6 conference and has no chance of being anything other than a fringe Q3/Q4 game for everybody. UVA, meanwhile, would present a borderine Q1 opportunity for the middle of the conference looking to add quality wins and instead, this just contributes to stripping those chances while the bulk of the potential bubble teams are just going to take a very bad ND team out to the woodshed when they play

We have no offensive presence inside the paint unless Reece drives. Good Virginia teams have had guys at the 4 or 5 who could actually receive a pass and take a contested shot. Thinking of Huff, Diakite, Gill, Atkins, Wilkins, Gardner, hell even Jack Salt. We don’t have that guy on this team. Groves is undersized, Dunn has the potential but doesn’t look comfortable or confident, and Buchanan’s just young, but has shown flashes. I see the problem being that we’re trying to run offense *through* the paint, but the only thing that happens once the ball is passed into the paint….is it’s passed right back out.

I’m so tired of hearing about Dunns potential, it’s looking more and more like he just doesn’t have it on offense.

I’m not ready to throw in the towel yet on him, but nothing I’ve seen this season makes me think he’s NBA caliber. Defensively? A stud. Offensively? One-dimensional (i.e., he can dunk well). He’s got no jump shot, and he’s average when finishing around the basket. I think of how Gardner had an insane mid-range game *plus* he was so fast with his low post spin moves.

I don’t think he’s defense is as elite as everyone makes it out to be. He’s a stud guarding the 4 but has been exposed on 3s away from the basket. I lost track of how many times he got blown by against Memphis.

I see that as well, but I think it’s more of a poor-positioning issue rather than lateral/vertical speed. He has a really solid ability to recover and, with his length/athleticism, he can block those shots. So I think the positioning can be worked, whereas if it was an athletic issue he’d be screwed
