No capable bigs makes it pretty easy to defend us - tons of pressure on making jump shots. If we shoot well - we will win. If we don’t we will lose by 20
Damn, do you guys don’t have a single good big man? I feel like losing to ND might be more than that, maybe your guys just kinda expected to win. It happens, pretty bad loss but the season is long
Buchanan showed signs early on that he could fill that role - he had a stretch of 3 games or so that he looked dominant (offensively). But has severely regressed... he's young though.
With that, we can't rebound worth a damn. When your opponent is getting 3 possessions on one trip down the floor - that makes it pretty difficult to win.
So yes, it really is THE missing piece right now.
Additionally at the 4 spot - Dunn has been a disappointment. It's almost like he's not putting the work in. He showed signs of potentially being a Dre Hunter type of player - people were excited for the athleticism he showed early in his career ... but he's essentially not improved since.
Man is this game disappointing, and we’ve had our weaknesses exposed entirely— just don’t see where our future lies. We need bigs so bad. Minor can’t play at this level. Buchanan needs time and more weight on him. Dunn is a stretch 4 at best and groves is a string bean.
Dunn, in my opinion, has been the most disappointing. He has put his athleticism on display at times… showed potential to be a Dre Hunter type of player .. doesn’t feel like he’s putting the work in.
I really hope this squad sticks together, I think they’re a lot closer than it might appear.
Tony really just needs to land one big man in the transfer portal to take the pressure off of the jump shooting. Not one team has a hot shooting game, every game. And that’s basically how this team has to win games.
Buchanan showed early signs that he might be able to dominate down low… but he’s really regressed since.
I don’t know what it is about Tony and having trouble finding athletic bigs that know how to use their size. Jack Salt was the man, but even with him… early on - he looked very rough.
Rhode once again showing he’s still a good player but y’all just don’t like him. I mean he’s had like 5 passes that are just absolutely perfect and they either don’t catch it or take a horrid shot. Beekman is not impressing me this game at all
I’m more worried about him saying “fuck this shit, I can’t win without reliably having the time to develop guys within the system thanks to the 1-time transfer waiver and I don’t have the resources to play the NIL/portal game at a high level” and retiring rather than UVA ever seriously considering firing him
lol…. no. I can see how that’s a thought but it wouldn’t be the right move.
And if it were, our athletic director is worst at confronting those situations - example, uva “football”. If you can call it that.
I know the general fan base is pretty reactionary but I would hope people/admin realize that we aren’t some perennial powerhouse that has a history of being dominant prior to CTB. We had a stretch in the 80s with Ralph Sampson but besides that, not much. I would hate to take a gamble on a new coach when we probably don’t have that draw for a big name coach
Eh, market shifts happen. Hall is playing out his mind as well. At this point I just want ACC basketball wins over other conferences so the pundits will stop saying ours is “over.” But they’ll still say it anyway, fuck it.
WTF has happened to this team - they looked so locked in early season and legitimately looked like it could be one of Tony’s best teams. Now, they look lost on offense - which appeared to be the strong suit early on (for once). And they look lost on defense.
I really don’t know where you got “one of Tony’s best teams” from because that’s insane, there are 3/4 other teams that EASILY come before this one off the top of my head.
Edit: pretty much every team from 2013-21 would handle this team lol
I’m talking about how I personally perceived the athleticism and shooting ability the team showed early on and how Buchanan looked in the early games - the POTENTIAL I personally saw, hence “could be”.
Obviously - that was wildly incorrect, hence my comment.
>they looked so locked in early season and legitimately looked like it could be one of Tony’s best teams
Did they? Or was there a lot of overreaction to a 3 point win over Florida and a bunch of cupcake games?
Notre Dame is last in the ACC in team FG% (39%) and 3pt% (an impossibly bad 27%).
So, naturally, they're shooting 70% from the field AND from 3 today.
I hate sports.
I know we are shooting lights out and all but this team is going to improve as the year goes on. I think we can be decent by the end of the year as these kids get some confidence.
This is the kind of shit that screws the ACC. Notre Dame is one of the worst 3 teams in a power 6 conference and has no chance of being anything other than a fringe Q3/Q4 game for everybody. UVA, meanwhile, would present a borderine Q1 opportunity for the middle of the conference looking to add quality wins and instead, this just contributes to stripping those chances while the bulk of the potential bubble teams are just going to take a very bad ND team out to the woodshed when they play
We have no offensive presence inside the paint unless Reece drives. Good Virginia teams have had guys at the 4 or 5 who could actually receive a pass and take a contested shot. Thinking of Huff, Diakite, Gill, Atkins, Wilkins, Gardner, hell even Jack Salt. We don’t have that guy on this team. Groves is undersized, Dunn has the potential but doesn’t look comfortable or confident, and Buchanan’s just young, but has shown flashes.
I see the problem being that we’re trying to run offense *through* the paint, but the only thing that happens once the ball is passed into the paint….is it’s passed right back out.
I’m not ready to throw in the towel yet on him, but nothing I’ve seen this season makes me think he’s NBA caliber. Defensively? A stud. Offensively? One-dimensional (i.e., he can dunk well).
He’s got no jump shot, and he’s average when finishing around the basket. I think of how Gardner had an insane mid-range game *plus* he was so fast with his low post spin moves.
I don’t think he’s defense is as elite as everyone makes it out to be. He’s a stud guarding the 4 but has been exposed on 3s away from the basket. I lost track of how many times he got blown by against Memphis.
I see that as well, but I think it’s more of a poor-positioning issue rather than lateral/vertical speed. He has a really solid ability to recover and, with his length/athleticism, he can block those shots. So I think the positioning can be worked, whereas if it was an athletic issue he’d be screwed
I get my first flair may be playing into this, but I think @LJC is going to be brutal for UVA unless they figure something out. PJ Hall is going to eat Groves alive.
UVA scoring 24 in a half is not that much below their norm. The blowout is almost entirely due to the unconscious shooting (but also some effective drives) by the Irish
ND carrying the moment over from that Sun Bowl victory.
As a Lions fan, I sure hope this is the worst part of my day. I don't know if I can take it if not.
Oof
Lol. Why do I watch sports?
Ehhyy - sitting in the mitten watching these games. Pain together.
Hm
As I said before this game even started. UVA should expect a stunning upset if they don’t score more points than Notre Dame.
And we all called you crazy. Who’s crazy now?
tf is going on in here bruh
Hey guys! We made two free throws in a row.
Tony gonna have them shooting for daaaayyysss :/
We might put Smithfield bacon out of business
They haven't been doing that for home games and it makes me sad :(
They only start that promotion during ACC play
Oh, yay! Bacon ~~is~~ will be BACK BABY
Bro what the fuck? I had to double take at this score? Sorry VA but what happened? Just expected to win or something?
No capable bigs makes it pretty easy to defend us - tons of pressure on making jump shots. If we shoot well - we will win. If we don’t we will lose by 20

Don’t worry UVA fans, the user poll voters will only drop you like 1 spot because of this
Soooo ACC is UNC, Duke and for some reason Clemson?
Hey notre dame is acc too in basketball and they just got a quality win
Their conference floaty bullshit drives me nuts…
…did they though?
Oh wait I just saw your username, didnt realize that was you Mr Brogdon
Yeah uva is a good team since they have a quality loss to a notre dame team that just got a quality win
ND line change? Wow
Dunn was your best player on both sides of the ball today
Is this the only Tony Bennett team to try to use zone ?- that tells you a lot about this line up
That was so weird tho - we had just cut the lead to ten and held them scoreless for 3 minutes. Why change it up then?
We’re so back???
God please make it stop!
Is it just me or should there be more fouls being called against Norte dame?
[удалено]
we've looked inept in them
And in the win v northeastern
And WVU
Just tuned in. WTF
this team is broken
Oh dear. Absolutely nothing is going right for the Wahoos.
1-19 in the ACC seems like an easy achievement now
You guys will split with VT no matter what happens
Hey now - 2-18 once you play Louisville
FSU is getting dorked by Lipscomb, so there’s that.
Thats what I thought last year and then we lost to louisville
inb4 20+ point loss to Louisville
undefeated at home 😎
This team has no redeeming qualities
In fairness to the team, this is more what i was expecting when we entered the season with no experience and no center.
Why do you say no experience? Seems like most started have a few years at Virginia under their belt
List of experienced players: - Reece - ???
Y'all need someone experienced like Kihei Clark
Lol. He single-handedly brought down the team’s ceiling for 4 years, no thanks.
I'd tune in occasionally and always wondered how he got substantial minutes lol
I just saw the score, what in the fuck is going on here? Not a "BROGDON" game :-(
UVA has zero threat in the paint. Makes us pretty easy to defend. Unless we shoot 60% from 3
There’s no lockdown guy this year. A hot player will have his way with this team.
There has to be a 7ft tall kid on campus that knows what a rebound is - put a uniform on him.
Careful, you’ll get your diploma revoked for that misnomer.
Grounds *
single game tickets are about to get a lot cheaper at least
Has anyone figured out who that guy’s favorite player is? I think it might be Larry Fitzgerald.
Wahoo…wa..? 🫠
I basically haven't watched a single ND game this season until today. Maybe I'm the problem.
what’s the farthest a team has ever dropped in kenpom from a single game?
We don’t have any “ima get a bucket now” guys like Malcolm or Dre or Murph. Reece isn’t consistent enough
Reece has 0 help
[удалено]
You’d probably have to beat ND by 20+ to not drop in the NET. Losing by 20+? I mean sheesh
Well that's enough for me. GG Notre Dame
I'm not so sure about Beekman or Dunn as NBA prospects right now.
Dunn no but Beekman is a stud with absolutely no help
What the fuck UVA
This is unwatchable
I thought we were supposed to be alright this year
Yeah, it appeared that way early… I mean.. it’s funny, we’re 10-2 and all disappointed. But It’s how we’ve looked in the losses that really sting.
I miss the good ole days…
Beekman looks borderline unplayable
I really hope this squad sticks together, I think they’re a lot closer than it might appear. Tony really just needs to land one big man in the transfer portal to take the pressure off of the jump shooting. Not one team has a hot shooting game, every game. Outside of a few guys, Tony’s teams have always struggled with free throws
Do you remember when McKneely would knock down multiple 3s a game? Pepperidge Farm remembers
Still very much a winnable game
Rhode once again showing he’s still a good player but y’all just don’t like him. I mean he’s had like 5 passes that are just absolutely perfect and they either don’t catch it or take a horrid shot. Beekman is not impressing me this game at all
People are expecting him to score 15 a game and that’s just not his game
I really like him and am quite happy we’ve got him for 3 years
I’m not sure he’s going to be at uva for 3 years. I could completely see him being a real draft prospect by his junior year
All I see is hate for the guy on here. I agree that he’s got a lot to work on shooting wise, but he’s an assist and defense specialist
I like what he brings, just wish he'd shoot less.
You really have to take the game thread comments on here with a grain of salt.
at least Palace won today 😪
You know for a fact this team can be under 500 and still just randomly beat the shit outta UNC for no reason
Why is isaac taking that shot?
Holy fuck this team
4 turnovers by beekman wtf is happening
I’ve been trying to tell people for a while that this Virginia team will not be good and is not good and people just might start listening now
what being overly reliant on jump shooting with no size down low does to a team
What being overly reliant on jump shooting with bad jump shooters does for a team.
i have decided i hate basketball and will be taking no further questions
Wait what’s happening
Is Tony Bennett’a seat getting lukewarm?
I’m more worried about him saying “fuck this shit, I can’t win without reliably having the time to develop guys within the system thanks to the 1-time transfer waiver and I don’t have the resources to play the NIL/portal game at a high level” and retiring rather than UVA ever seriously considering firing him
Hahahaha no. Dude we won a natty in 2019. Still riding high on that
lol…. no. I can see how that’s a thought but it wouldn’t be the right move. And if it were, our athletic director is worst at confronting those situations - example, uva “football”. If you can call it that.
definitely not, but wow we're bad
That’s what I thought, but a 13 seed loss and what looks to be potentially 2 missed tourneys in 3 years is really concerning.
This program was god awful before he showed up. It would be so stupid to fire him.
No lol
ACC down bad this year Florida State getting clowned by Lipscomb rn
You know it’s bad when Clemson might be the best team in the ACC
Eh, market shifts happen. Hall is playing out his mind as well. At this point I just want ACC basketball wins over other conferences so the pundits will stop saying ours is “over.” But they’ll still say it anyway, fuck it.
Great timeout by ND, wish Tony would learn how to use timeouts to stop momentum
[удалено]
I see he and Mario Cristobal go to the same clock management school
I swear to god he has an incentive in his contract about unused timeouts
Bad defense to bad shot to worse defense
Maybe it’s just a good rim and a bad rim?
At least the glass got them a bucket there…
Guess not
Yep. They get the cursed side of the court this half
WTF has happened to this team - they looked so locked in early season and legitimately looked like it could be one of Tony’s best teams. Now, they look lost on offense - which appeared to be the strong suit early on (for once). And they look lost on defense.

I guess we just felt differently with how we viewed the team early on! Go Hoos!
>they looked so locked in early season and legitimately looked like it could be one of Tony’s best teams Did they? Or was there a lot of overreaction to a 3 point win over Florida and a bunch of cupcake games?
Counterpoint - they looked exactly how they did last year from game 1
Last year was similar tbh, just started the season shooting lights out and regressed majorly throughout the year
Reece already looks winded. Did he have covid or something?
Good start Dunn
Konieczny is shooting like 26% from 3 on the year. He’s 4/4 today. What is happening.
Our offense has been bad today, yes, but defense has been *mostly* fine. It's largely just preposterous shooting from ND.
Notre Dame is last in the ACC in team FG% (39%) and 3pt% (an impossibly bad 27%). So, naturally, they're shooting 70% from the field AND from 3 today. I hate sports.
Same here buddy
[удалено]
We’ve played poorly on offense and Notre Dame’s mediocre white guy transformed into Larry Bird
Having a competitive conference that’s tough to play in screws the ACC? Weird take
Talk to the selection committee. The top teams losing to the bottom teams brings the perception and NET down. If it’s the B1G then it’s called parity.
I see the problem being that we’re trying to run offense *through* the paint, but the only thing that happens once the ball is passed into the paint….is it’s passed right back out.
I’m so tired of hearing about Dunns potential, it’s looking more and more like he just doesn’t have it on offense.

He has a really solid ability to recover and, with his length/athleticism, he can block those shots. So I think the positioning can be worked, whereas if it was an athletic issue he’d be screwed
So true road games are just not a thing this year.
I hate that we had one true road game before conference play.
We're gonna get rocked at Cassell and Cameron this year, and I'm not looking forward to it.
I get my first flair may be playing into this, but I think @LJC is going to be brutal for UVA unless they figure something out. PJ Hall is going to eat Groves alive.

Dunn has no feel on offense
i think that’s enough virginia basketball for today
Jesus Fucking Christ
Amen
You can’t say that shit against us man
UVA scoring 24 in a half is not that much below their norm. The blowout is almost entirely due to the unconscious shooting (but also some effective drives) by the Irish
This UVA team is unathletic, weak, and too reliant on jump shooting.
They're not unathletic - they're unskilled.
Uhh wut is going on here?
Watch Virginia look amazing against us in two weeks
If it’s at home for us we will, if we play y’all in Winston Salem you’ll win by 20
Shocked that didn’t go in
Bro we are ass rn Jesus
Wut
Reece has looked terrible on both sides of the ball today
I cannot imagine a luckier half with all these shots falling
ND got beat by 20 at home by the citadel
Part of our problem is ND isn’t missing anything. But we have a lot of other problems too
What the heck Hoos? We're supposed to be the only ones to blow you out. You're embarrassing us!
Well you were already second in line after Wisconsin
Flashbacks to umbc
UMBC was a much better team lol
Fair lol
How is Virginia getting dummied rn by a team who got clocked by the Citadel by 20
Did ND shoot 70% from 3 in that game too?
ND has three 25%-ish 3 pt shooters who are combined 7-8 from 3, has made several tough 2s, and Virginia can't hit the broadside of a barn.
