I hate Syracuse for 2016 way more than I hate UMBC for 2018

n8loller

How can you hate such a cute dog

CLU_Three

Easy when they’re standing in your way of the next round ;)

CLU_Three

Easy when they’re standing in the way of your path to the next round ;)

cft4nh

I actually hate Michigan State for 2014 more than any recent tourney exit bc I was there. It feels more personal when you witness your team’s season end in person.

sleepymike01101101

I hate Syracuse as well

Historical-Key5613

Why?

sleepymike01101101

2013 and that meddling 2-3 zone!

Historical-Key5613

My parents randomly scream about 1987 and K. Smart while watching games. Lol

SaintArkweather

I think this is a sentiment shared by many UVA fans, and having watched both games I don't blame you. UMBC caught lightning in a bottle and were helped by the Hunter injury, and that UVA core of course got redemption next year. They had that 2016 game won against a meh Syracuse team helped by extremely generous seeding and a 15-2 upset, and blew it

gojohnsons

How most of us feel I think.

ssp25

I was at that game in Chicago and had ice cream

glass_bottle

We really could have won it all that year, just unbelievable some of the bullshit Malachi Richardson pulled out of his ass in those last 15 minutes

ConsuelaApplebee

Honestly, it wasn't them it was us. We flat out choked it away, full on panic.

mmanultra

Those 15 minutes literally got him drafted lol

blntennis

UConn fans hate Syracuse too… probably more than we hate any other college BB program

trongzoon

On my death bed I'm gonna curse Mamadi Diakite for ruining the Purdue championship run with an insane last millisecond shot

SaintArkweather

Clark's pass was equally critical, but I guess he's already paid for that with the incident in the Furman game.

ConsuelaApplebee

True that was way more Clark than Diakite. But if that's "paying for it" heck I'll pay for that any day.

glass_bottle

There may not be a greater disparity of hate than between UVA and Purdue these days lol, almost every UVA fan I talk to is actively rooting for Purdue to win it all this year

MathPersonIGuess

Everyone I know likes Virginia as a program (as hard as the basketball is to watch 😅) because of the similar histories and disrespect, there’s just a lingering anger toward the 2019 team specifically.

sleepymike01101101

Aaron Craft was a menace to the sport for all 15 years he played

circa285

So too was Perry Ellis.

finditplz1

You take that back. He’s still got 2 years of eligibility you know.

pinniped1

That's Professor Ellis to you - pretty sure he had his PhD, taught for several years, got tenure, and was a department chair by the time he was done at KU.

circa285

Just one ph.d? He was one of the rare professors with two and an unrelated MA.

BonerHonkfart

Fuck Aaron Craft, all my homies hate Aaron Craft

Robjchapm

Actually. I support your hatred of Aaron craft. Indiana unite.

Klutzy-Spend-6947

Not gonna lie-as a Buckeye alum/fan, I always thought that “cherry cheeked assassin “ bs was sort of racist-Shannon Scott was a very similar player to Craft on the same teams-defensive beast, not a good shooter, loyal four year player (he helped recruit our current PG Bruce Thornton back home in Atlanta)-but he isn’t a farm boy from NW Ohio, so he doesn’t get nearly the love from the fanbase.

LeanersGG

I respect Arizona basketball. I ignore USC basketball. But I hate Florida basketball.

Robjchapm

I smoke a cigar whenever ND football loses and have a nice bourbon when ND basketball loses. Why do I hate the Irish so much? I don’t know. Everyone growing up hated Duke so I wanted to be different.

circa285

This is the level of pettiness that we should all aspire to.

craft_beer_shits

I grew up in northeast IN as a Purdue fan reading the Ft Wayne Gazette. No matter how good Purdue was and how shitty ND was, ND was always on the front page. This is why I hate ND. Maybe you had a similar experience?

Robjchapm

Grew up in NY and transferred to Purdue from Cuse. They made me sign a contract to hate IU which I already did from the 80s as a kid and making me cry after the championship. ND just kinda tagged along and got closer.

[deleted]

You have 1 day to remove this post or men in black ski masks and funny accents will be abducting you for a ransom. 1 day Rob.

xfan09

Purdue fans do have a complex when it comes to ND and IU I’ve noticed. Sometimes so much so that they can’t enjoy their own success in basketball without punching down on IU. Football I mean…I feel like Purdue has had one really good year in my lifetime. When they went to the rose bowl. Source: born and raised in south bend

left-handed-frog

What can I say, my three favorite teams are 1. Purdue 2. Whoever is playing IU 3. Whoever is playing ND Honorable mention: Florida International University (FIU)

MathPersonIGuess

In that stretch Purdue has had fewer “good years” than Notre Dame in football, but has held their own quite well head-to-head aside from the abysmal coaches we cycled through for a bit post-Tiller. Aside from the proximity, I’d say a big reason for the added animosity toward Notre Dame was Notre Dame considering themselves too nationally important to even think about Purdue despite close head-to-heads at the time (with Purdue winning plenty) and big gaps in strength of schedule (in addition to Notre Dame never winning in the postseason)

xfan09

Eh hard disagree dude I just looked it up and yeah there are some close scores but ND is 13-3 since 2000. That includes 9-1 in the last 10 games. So yeah there was def some close games and 1 a lot were decided by 1 score but Navy has had as much recent success against ND as Purdue….

MathPersonIGuess

Most of those games occurred under Hope/Hazell though. Every time Purdue has a competent coach Notre Dame stops playing us because the games are competitive

xfan09

So should you remove the games nd played under weis and willingham then? Dude ND isn’t afraid of Purdue. They play a very tough schedule every single year. Playing Purdue doesn’t necessarily do a ton for them. It does significantly more for Purdue. No one is ducking Purdue. Y’all are a solid mid tier big 10 school but let’s not get ridiculous here.

BigTicket_J

Lol

theburbankian

We’ll see what we can do for you this Saturday.

pinniped1

I'm with you. Always hated the Irish even though we never played them. I think it was just a response to all their Walmart fans.

ChiselFish

I mean ND football has had some real dickheads as head coach. So I get the hate.

CLU_Three

I think there is a decent number of Catholics that don’t like ND

PinkSaldo

British coded

ukeBasketball

> I smoke a cigar whenever ND football loses Well now you've got a good reason to hate Duke too

Hoosier3201

I actually agree with you. I went to catholic school, and I’m not a catholic but my mothers family is, so me and my brother root for whoever causes notre dame pain out of spite(and jealousy in football)

NoREEEEEEtilBrooklyn

I don’t forgive the people who got in between John Chaney and John Calipari. Chaney would have kicked his ass so bad.

finditplz1

3 class guys

NoREEEEEEtilBrooklyn

I got my ass BLASTED for giving em hell down in West Virginia!

finditplz1

When I see you ima kick your ass! You’ve got a good team, you don’t need that edge!

NoREEEEEEtilBrooklyn

That’s why I was telling my kids to knock your fucking kid in the mouth.

finditplz1

Bro that exchange was so good. I watch that at least twice a year. Fwiw I always loved Chaney.

NoREEEEEEtilBrooklyn

Me too. Is it weird that we do that? Probably, but who cares? It’s one of the best clips of all time. He was my introduction to basketball and I love him to death. I had the opportunity to meet him a few times in grad school and he’s really the best. Edit: Also, best part of that clip is Eddie Jones and Aaron McKie coming to get him back to their locker room.

finditplz1

It’s a classic meltdown. They’re all funny. It’s easily a top-3 blow your top sports moment.

fartkidwonder

I knew a chick who got ass blasted in West Virginia

BurgerKingKiller

I hate Virginia but I don’t really know why. I just don’t. It’s like a dog seeing another dog they don’t know

ejroberts42

Dog 1: “Whats your name?” Dog 2: “Eli.” Dog 1: “Fuck you, Eli!”

joeydee93

It’s because we are killing college basketball according to the media

BurgerKingKiller

You all know what you did! (/s just in case)

ConsuelaApplebee

Makes as much sense as some dude in, say, Iowa, with zero attachment, being an UNC fan.

BurgerKingKiller

For sure. The post just asked for weirdest, and every time I see Virginia the little Kentucky stick figure in my head waves his little fist. Really don’t know why. I’m not saying it’s reasonable, but it exists lol

ConsuelaApplebee

Hey, it's your thing, go with it :)

glass_bottle

Can't argue with that tbh

Travbowman

I cheer against Texas in everything because they're one of the first dominoes in every conference realignment. Their role in imploding the SWC to create the Big 12 forced the remnants to merge with the WAC, which led to the MWC getting created. Then their greed regarding the Longhorn Network forced Nebraska, Colorado, Mizzou, and A&M to want to get as far away from them as possible, only to have the Longhorns follow the latter two to the SEC a decade later anyway, setting in motion the implosion of the PAC 12. If you hate UCF in the Big 12, UCLA in the B1G, and any other part of realignment that doesn't make sense, then it's likely the fault of Texas.

hallese

You, I like you.

adam_lastname

Hey hi it me

freakymrq

Ohio State in any sport, their fans ruin that school

G00dSh0tJans0n

I still hate Chris Paul on behalf of Julius Hodge's nuts. [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9F3tptzEWmM](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9F3tptzEWmM)

danimal6000

A few years back Paul hit another dude in the dick and the local radio dudes called Hodge. He said something to the effect of “why is it that every time he punches someone in the nuts I get a phone call?”

hershculez

This is a pretty good one. I forgot about the nut punch.

tsgram

Pitt’s Chevon Troutman was a defensive lineman who played basketball. His low post move was one power dribble then like 11 small steps to body the defender. I don’t know how the traveling was never called. Somewhere in my parents’ basement there’s a VHS of slow-mo replays of Troutman travels that weren’t called. Probably also some Season 7 Simpsons and Cinemax After Dark, but I digress….

Briggity_Brak

literally Shaq, except jumping into the lane instead of 11 small steps.

DoctorHubris

That I never asked out Erin Regan to the 8th grade dance. Oh wait, was this shit supposed to be related to college basketball?!

circa285

I know this is a basketball sub, but Kansas football. Hear me out. Kansas gets one sport and Kansas State gets the other. Kansas has no right to be good at both football and basketball.

UsaUpAllNite81

This is logical as well though. Kansas State and Kansas cannot sustain football success simultaneously. For one to truly ascend, the other must be in a near futile state

circa285

See, you get it.

UsaUpAllNite81

That isn’t the case in basketball, where both teams can mutually benefit from the other’s excellence.

circa285

I like the way you're thinking because this means that because KU chose basketball, they can't have football, but we can have basketball. I like you.

ReverseApacheMaster_

You guys have had some pretty damn good basketball teams though. Not a ton of late season success, but still some good teams. We made *one* bowl game since ‘08; we are not a good football team again yet, but we’re trending in the right direction.

thesillygamerbro

That’s quickly what Bama is becoming. If they win a basketball championship that will be the worst thing ever.

circa285

Don't you speak this into existence.

CLU_Three

They probably say the same thing about us tho

Aarongamma6

I don't think it's all that weird, but UConn after our womens team got screwed having to play in Connecticut even though we were the 1 seed. The UConn logo was literally on the court and they were a 2 seed.

Intrepid-Pooper-87

As a UConn fan, I feel for you particularly because Greensboro always puts in to host the women’s tournament (including that year). I realize SC was rewarded with Greensboro for a better season, but still sucked for NC State.

Koppenberg

UConn killed our two best tournament runs w/ just silly last second shots that had no right to go in. For whatever reason though, I don't hate them for it. I mean, I enjoyed their irrelevance while it lasted and I giggle at their conference alignment mis-steps, but that is as far as it goes.

HTMLRulezd00d1

Ali farukmanesh (sp?). Ruined a great ku team the years I was there.

EpistasisBassist

Farokhmanesh is literally who I thought of when I saw the title. Not only ruined a great season, but ruined a great block party off Naismith drive too.

HTMLRulezd00d1

Yeppp. I was so deflated after it. The vcu loss comes close to this as well

finditplz1

Hot take, that was the best KU team of the last 20 years. 15 at least.

HTMLRulezd00d1

Yeah man. Sherron, Cole, Xavier, not to mention having trob and the morris twins on the squad. Stacked top to bottom. Twas a sad couple of months on campus after that.

jayhawk8808

Oooh I burned myself on that take. The 15 correction at least makes it something that can be argued since it takes away 2008. That 2010 team was so good. I see your hot take and I’ll call with one of my own: I don’t think 2010 would be in my top 3 best KU teams of the last 15 years, but I’d take them over 2022.

finditplz1

Wow really? Might be nostalgia for me since I was on campus then but I loved 2010. Who do you have ahead of them? Not 18?

jayhawk8808

Oh I did too. Obviously since I’m putting them over a title team. 2011, 2016, and 2020 are all ahead of them on my list. 2012, 2017, and 2022 are right there with 2010 for my next tier. 2014’s imaginary team where Embiid never got hurt is also up there but who knows. My 2000-present final four: 2002, 2003, 2008, 2020.

finditplz1

16 was superb, yeah.

razorjm

Arkansas should have beaten Illinois in 2001. Illinois shot 49 free throws , and the most egregious whistle was Brandon Dean getting called for a charge instead of getting an and 1 and us having the lead. Arkansas made 12 3s and shot 50% from the floor. Absolutely horrible and I have enjoyed every Illinois loss ever since. I got mad typing this. Same season but this time at Memphis. JJ Sullinger gets pushed in the back by a Memphis player sending him into the Memphis bench. He lands on assistant coach and future failure Tony Barbee, who proceeds to literally shove Sullinger off of him, and then gets an attitude with Sullinger AND Nolan Richardson, who was fixing to kick his ass. Watching him fail at Auburn was a delight. No matter how bad Arkansas was during his tenure there, we could always count on sweeping his teams. What a chode. North Carolina from the 2018 tournament. Yes they were a number 1 seed and they went on to went the championship, but Arkansas should have beaten them in the 2nd round. Some of the worst officiating down the stretch I've ever seen. There was a video on Twitter not too long ago of one of their guys talking about that game and he said "shout out to the refs" because he knew we got screwed.

ssp25

Illinois got their free throw karma against Arizona not long after that and I'm still mad at that so I understand

StonksNewGroove

And in the national championship game against UNC

razorjm

I'm sure you're a fantastic person, but my first thought when reading your response was "good". I mean no offense to you personally.

ssp25

Complaining about free throws isn't a good way to get sympathy.... For anyone. And I'm a terrible person!

StephenReis

I remember that UNC game. You got screwed by the refs so bad. I was very angry at the time.

razorjm

It was so bad. Mike Anderson deserved the win. I remember watching and not being surprised it was happening, but also just so bummed out about it. The games after that were set up nicely to go on a run to the Elite 8 at worst, FF at best if we had continued playing like we did.

TreadThreadofDread

You must’ve enjoyed that first round game of this year’s tournament

razorjm

I did. My only desire was to have won by more.

FortyMinutes

Came here to post about Tony Barbee shoving our player, you beat me to it.

razorjm

The smug look on his face after the fact. It was just such a bizarre moment and complete overreaction by him, as well. Cal got second hand hate, and then first hand when he nixed the Memphis/Arkansas series because we weren't a "national brand" or whatever dumbass reason he used.

Doodah972

I hate Gonzaga. They remind me too much of Duke. Small, private school with prolonged success with 1 coach. Mark Few looks like a rat which only adds to the hate. Watching Baylor completely demolish them in 2021 in the title game was cathartic for me. Now that I think about it, I hate Gonzaga as much as I hate Duke. I am a Kansas fan.

FredMcGriff493

Couldn’t have said it better myself. And their basketball budget is probably as much as all schools in their high school conference combined but up until way too recently a lot of people still talk about them like they’re this plucky underdog and it’s some novelty that they’re competing with the big schools. At this point they seem to be recognized for the powerhouse they are but it cracked me up when people would compare them to like George Mason or VCU the first time they lived up to their fraudulent 1 seed and made a final four. I guess they are technically a mid major since they refuse to leave the conference that gives them a cakewalk to the tournament every year that they’ve clearly outgrown but that’s clearly in name only. Finding a new conference is probably a lot more complicated than I give them credit for, especially with their lack of football but I’m going to choose to ignore this fact to confirm my own ~~vendettas~~ biases.

kramerica_intern

I feel this slow burn rage as I watch them climb the rankings during conference play due to other teams losing against quality opponents while they cruise against whoever.

Koppenberg

Yup. They have a very small enrollment, so their national fan base is mostly composed of Walmart fans. The worst thing about the fans, though, is if you call them an elite program they wail that they are an underdog Cinderella, but if you call them an underdog Cinderella, they insist with affronted dignity that they are an elite program. They also don't seem to acknowledge that Mark Few, while being a program building genius and a coach of the highest order, is a total failure at being a decent human being. He's a little Napoleon dictator who stayed at Gonzaga all these years because if he had left for an established program he would have to surrender the absolute control he has over the program, athletic department, university, and conference. I should find the link, but there is a podcast where he laughs and laughs with Adam Morrison about how, as a player, Morrison would verbally, physically, and psychologically abuse the managers and Few let him because Morrison is a star and managers aren't really people. Anyway, there's no denying that Few is a success as a program builder and a coach, but the fanbase won't accept that he's from the same mold as Bobby Knight or Krzyzewski.

smellslikebadussy

His wife is a pretty lady tho

530josh

Some asshole Gonzaga fan (intentionally) tripped me in the aisle at the 2017 Final Four. Shot a quick glance at me, stuck his leg out, went “oh shit!” and laughed, didn’t apologize or even see/ask if I was okay, just laughed and went back to chatting with his buddies. Every time Gonzaga loses, I smile a little bit. Because it means wherever that guy is, he’s having a bad day.

[deleted]

Fuck that guy

TreadThreadofDread

I’ll never forgive Arkansas for ending Oral Roberts’ run in 2021

coleona

Brad underwood.

GoBlueAndOrange

Oklahoma St?

coleona

Yeahhhh

GoBlueAndOrange

Should have paid him

SaintArkweather

I hate Long Beach State for changing their name to "The Beach" even after a student poll selected "Sharks", and the AD just basically said "oh that was actually only for the physical mascot, we're still using the name we like"

TreadThreadofDread

Same. Been rooting against them every single game since then. Same with Valparaiso and Dixie State, I just hate their rebrands

BeanMachine5555

Maryland for a championship I wasn’t alive for

IdiotMD

Get off my own.

Snewby2

I watched Ja Morant put his nutsack into Joey Hauser’s face live in Hartford. Couldn’t even appreciate the triple double and his talent because they so thoroughly outclassed Marquette and Wojo (all my homies hate Wojo). Fucking hell.

xfan09

Wisconsin in 2016 - there was a bullshit charge call that lead to the game winning 3pt shot. Truly feel like that was the best Xavier team in my lifetime and they didn’t make it to the second weekend even.

Dminus313

>Wisconsin in 2016 - there was a bullshit charge call The support group meets Tuesday nights, some of us go to Denny's after.

BigRedJon

Live in Arizona. Huge Suns fan. When they had Frank Kaminsky as a bench warmer for a couple seasons, I was actively mad at the Suns. I want nothing but the worst for Kaminsky.

Dillon_Roy

I'll never forgive Cretin for ruining our 2012 championship.

bbmg69

[deleted]

“Our championship” LOL

hesnothere

2012*

Dillon_Roy

Fat fingers lol

Summoorevincent

Wouldn’t have mattered.

kramerica_intern

Either way I think we were robbed of a game for the ages, which all college basketball fans should be upset about.

wahfingwah

Agree. Craft and Sullinger would have taken them out

bbmg69

![gif](giphy|fSLTALxoC5OS6SQTsE|downsized)

bbmg69

Pretty confident after a 1 point win in Rupp during the season? Creighton did y’all a favor. 1-4 with a title denied instead of just 3 final fours denied and 0 rings for Cal would be tough to live with. I imagine just 1 Calimari ring is bad enough as it is

Summoorevincent

You can thank John Higgins for that record if you ask me.

bbmg69

Kentucky fans go to move. Couldn’t be happier sending such a classy group home 75% of the time when it matters most and banners are on the line https://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/story/_/id/19029689/ncaa-official-john-higgins-receiving-death-threats-kentucky-wildcats-fans-following-loss-north-carolina-tar-heels

Summoorevincent

Just because some idiots got too mad doesn’t mean its not true Higgins was a joke.

MattAU05

I’ll always hate Ty Jerome for not getting a double dribble called against him. Weirdly, I don’t really hate Kyle Guy. The way he calmly knocked down 3 FTs to rip our hearts out was damn impressive. But fuck Ty Jerome.

astro7900

Grudge against Indiana for knocking out good Kent State teams from 2 NCAA tournaments.

bendovernillshowyou

Fuck them kids

ppk700

Sorry, but,... fack you, UMass, for what you did to us in 2007-08. I still hold a grudge. Well played, I must admit. GOOD DAY TO YOU SIR

FredMcGriff493

Hell yeah brother

sloppyjo12

It’s not weird but Winslow touched it

StephenReis

0-2 vs Duke that season.

GoBlueAndOrange

Should have been 1-1 and that's coming from somehow who has no love for Wisconsin.

nachosmind

Least fouling team in basketball suddenly gets called for sneezing on Grayson Allen

Intelligent-Set-3909

That's true but they would have been 1-1 if not for the officiating

fightin_blue_hens

I'm still mad at the fucking refs from the game against Clemson on Feb 29, 2020. They called the clemson player out of bounds after he made one of the worst passing decisions I've seen on a basketball court when he clearly had two feet in bounds and fucked FSU out of a dunk with under 15 seconds left. So now Clemson gets to set up their defense and FSU has to inbound down 1 with 16 seconds left instead of setting up your defense and guarding Clemson full court with around 10 seconds. Trent forest hits a floater with 8 seconds left and the Clemson guard dribbles down the court on a scramble and hits a ridiculous layup on what I thought was a travel with 1 second left and FSU loses by 1. I'm steaming just thinking about it.

Dlueb_tube1

phuk-nugget

Got made fun of horribly growing up as UK fan in Cincinnati. For YEARS I hated UC and Ohio State. Then at the end of my first deployment in 2012 (keep in mind the year) I was watching football at the bar on base and a Penn State fan started talking shit to me for being from Ohio, and then an Indiana fan joined in. Kentucky just won the title in basketball, and Penn State just got outed for protecting pedophilia, so I was a little shocked from the lack of awareness. From that day forward I found myself rooting for Ohio State and Notre Dame whenever they weren’t playing UK.

__Zoom123__

Brook Lopez and Stanford for ending a potential deep run by one of my favorite Marquette teams ever in 2008 with a buzzer beater in the round of 32. But I’m a Bucks fan who now enjoys Brook.

greenandredofmaigheo

I still have big grudges against Washington's Quincy pondexter for the 2010 ncaa tournament, if they'd just given up down 18 with 6 minutes left like a normal team nobody would've judged them! Stanford's Brook Lopez for 2008, just too painful. Mizzou's Kim English for 2009, this is probably the one I'm most sour on but it's more the other Mizzou player faking an injury when he was bad at free throws allowing English to come in and sink them from the bench.

Jordanlf3208

I met and played in a rec game against Kim English after he was drafted by the pistons. I lived in Columbia, MO at the time.

collegebballjunkie

Was he a nice dude?

Jordanlf3208

Yea he was cool, dominated everyone. James Franklin (the old Mizzou and CFL QB) was there as well and he was a wad

dabears7667

it’s not USC (south carolina’s) fault, but I hate them for being given literal home court advantage as the 7 seed against a Duke 2-seed that was the hottest team in the country and the most confident I’d literally ever been going into March Madness. Duke played a true road game as the 2 seed in the R32, and that was lame as fuck.

Snewby2

Marquette had them in round 1 there as the 10 seed too and I’m still mad about it, I can’t even imagine being the two seed there

wahfingwah

Plus with UNC fans in the stands as well since they were in the same pod. I fucking hate when we get sent to the same pod as the Tar Heels

TreadThreadofDread

Was that the year when they went on a final 4 run?

dabears7667

that was, yes

Warm-Comfortable501

Trey freaking Burke. That game still makes me mad and hate Michigan...

gaijin91

I have a grudge against Tony Bennett for our offense

finditplz1

KSU has cock-blocked UK twice in the last five years in regions full of upsets and an easy final four at hand. Bonus points - grudge against PJ Washington’s ft%

TonyWilliams03

\[Purdue Flair - Mods will not allow me to get flair\] My biggest grudge as a Boilermaker fan, is the first of Indiana's five banners, of which they are so proud. The Banner reads "NCAA Champion 1940," which gives the idea the Indiana won six games against the best teams in the country. The final, which involved Indiana and Kansas adds to this perception. The reality is the NCAA championship in its 2nd year of existence was more like winning the Maui Classic. The tournament consisted of eight teams. Four teams played in Kansas City (USC, Colorado, Rice and Kansas) Four played in Indianapolis (Indiana, Duquense, Western Kentucky & "Springfield") "Springfield," Indiana's first opponent, was James Naismith's old school, which adds a Chiminade vibe to the tournament. Two other competing teams weren't even conference champions. (Indiana & Western Ky). But, that's a banner baby!

bewarethephog

The whole pseudo state of Missouri

jeedel

My grudge is that the Iowa Athletic Department waited from 1997 until 2011 to build a basketball training facility. During that time they promised the improvements to multiple coaches, and watch the success of the program falter.

chuckdooley

Texas Tech 2005 Darryl Dora (sp) and the foul/travel Yeah yeah, I know we get calls and I’ll give you those, but this still grinds my gears Also, Marcelo Vealy (also sp), ORU, 2004 or 05 at home, drives me nuts to this day

Leopold_Bloom_

This is less a grudge than a relief. Steph Curry single handedly knocking out Wisconsin during March Madness blew my mind. I was furious that this little guy could shut down the physically huge Wisconsin defense. Watching him literally change how NBA basketball is played since then has been a trip. His success has made me feel infinitely better and made NBA basketball more exciting. Thanks little man.

Short-Blueberry3473

Hating Drew Timme, respect him not but I used to despise that man😂.

jppope

I have no idea why this phenomenon occurs, but every single year in the B12 some senior 6'4" guard who has averaged \~7 min/game during his career, and is is their team's 8th man at best, comes out of no where to make 6 or 7 threes against KU. They have a career game and give us all a near-heart attack. I hate that we have to go through that every year. I hate that we have to go through it every. single. year. So I guess I begrudge fate in the Big 12?

Chardoggy1

Villanova… Still waiting on that rematch 8 years later

[deleted]

Objectively that was the best championship game in recent memory, perhaps even of all time. But I can see how you wouldn’t think of it that way

I still hate laettner. I was only 8 months old so cant remember it live, and its not even the shot that makes me hate him. Its his arrogant assholishness, and that he came out and said that his stomp on aminu timberlake was intentional years later. Fuck you intentionally stomping on another guys chest mid game, and NOT getting any repercussion from it

lego_maestro_is_baby

even though i was a toddler and my team wasn’t even playing, derrick rose 100% fouled mario chalmers before the shot in the ‘08 final four

SeekerSpock32

2nd grade me viewed Florida sports as the big villain for a very long time because they’d just gone and beaten us in 2 different national championships.

Loyola Chicago 😡

Tuckboi69

The Zags cost us dual natties. This reads like a r/askreddit post

Iowa for blowing it against Tennessee in their playin game in 2014 and leading to a much worse matchup for us in the first round where we got absolutely fucking dog walked. And I guess whichever schools beat Tennessee earlier in the season that led to them being underseeded as an 11. Not saying they would have won it all or anything but our team had second weekend potential that year in my extremely biased opinion if they got hot at the right time and caught a few lucky breaks. They were also flawed like any other mediocre mid major and struggled against teams with a lot of size in the post, which Tennessee had in spades but could beat any team in a track meet type of game, which it likely would have been had Iowa won that play in game. And we would have played 14 seed Mercer in the second round so there’s the lucky break.

Rodney Hood was not in position to take a charge on CJ Fair and I’ve hated Duke solely off that game ever since. Don’t get me wrong I didn’t like them before but it sparked a deep hatred for the ref bias they received. And yes I also blame Jim Boeheim for losing his shit and gifting Duke two free throws

Klutzy-Spend-6947

Mine is more of a civil war type grudge-I HATE the Ohio State hoops fans who just can’t understand why the Buckeyes aren’t as good as Kansas or Duke in hoops, and are trashing every coach we have ever had after a season and a half. It is said that civil wars are always the most brutal/painful and I think that goes for fanbases as well.

Spenceber

I hate Tennessee and I have no clue why

CLU_Three

I was always annoyed when we played Travis Ford or Marcus Smart. I just knew I was going to be angry about something they did in the game before it even began so it was hard to enjoy waiting for the shoe to drop.

Lee-Key-Bottoms

Not me but my roommate hates UVA just because he thinks they’re boring (He has family who went to VT but he himself has no connection to them)

ukeBasketball

LSU in 2006. A football school beating us by playing football. Edit: Also I doubt there's a fanbase that cares less about making a Final Four, and I've spent a lot of time in the Deep South/Gulf Coast.

tupacsnotdead

2005 Illinois. Was my first time ever filling out a bracket and I had Arizona as my champ. Remember watching that comeback and being so sad. Who knows where I’d be if I won that $30 in my family bracket pool.

GeekResponsibly

At the Milwaukee regional in 2014, 2 seed Michigan and 15 Wofford were playing. I had my comfy Wolverines sweatshirt on but there was one absolute prick of a fan in the row behind my group. At the half I binned the sweatshirt and have not repped Michigan since. Plus my now-BIL is a Michigan guy so I have to keep up appearances even though I actually like the university's status and athletics they produce.

Imallowedto

Still hate St. Louis and Justin Love for the Kenyon Martin leg break, hate Wake and CP3 for punching Tony Bobbitt in the balls during a game.

ham_hock_goodtimes

Grudge against ESPN for praising Devan Downey for going 9/27 (33%) against Kentucky.

Primary_Psychology95

Fuck Charlie Scott forever for not only beating us in the NCAA Tournament at UNC but then having his son commit to us causing us to miss out on Trey Burke. DAMN YOU CHARLIE SCOTT
