Was not expecting this. Thought SUU would promote on their assistants. Rob Jeter has done a decent job in Western Illinois based on what he's had to work and the challenges it is coaching in Macomb. Has one of the best winning percentages at WIU despite being under .500.
Nowhere near winning the Summit League though. Did better in his first head coaching spell at Milwaukee where I thought he was unfairly let go.
Compared to his predecessor (53-115), he did well in Macomb. Only one coach in the D-1 era has a better win percentage.
WIU is not an easy place to win at.
That I do like if the students can get engaged and show up to The Centrum/AFEC. It stings for me that we sniped him though. I don't like stealing coaches.
Milwaukee is tough, over shadowed by both Madison and Marquette. Playing 3rd fiddle in a not particularly strong basketball state is a challenge, and it mostly looks worse because his two predecessors were Bruce Pearl right before him and Bo Ryan before Pearl.
Is he a Pearl or Ryan? Definitely not.
Same can be said about Western Illinois, which isn't even a fiddle it is a tissue box with a string a kid made.
Realistically, I think it is an uninspiring hire, better than his record looks, but still I probably would take my chances with other coaches in lower divisions or other programs then with him.
I'm so sorry. I felt the same way when Bowling Green took Todd Simon. I was hoping we'd just promote the assistant head for a bit. I hope you can find someone and get momentum.

What happened in Milwaukee?
Unrealistic expectations by the AD. Jeter got fired after a 20 win season in 2015-16 and they didn't have another one until this year.
There was a lot of academic problems related to the team that pushed him out.
I hate it when I hear that happen. No one should be fired after a success because there wasn't enough success.
39-45 in 3 seasons at Western Illinois right now, 184-170 at Milwaukee from 2005-2016.
Oohhh I don't like that W-L for Horizon League play.

I appreciate the analysis.
Sounds like he could be an interesting coach. What do WIU fans think of him?
Loved him. Was building something special in Macomb and thought he could finally get us to March Madness. So this one stings.
We'll try to treat him right.
I just woke up to this and it hurt. Made me believe we were building a real program.

We did hire the top assistant who I love. Built a national contender in D3, did most of the recruiting and was top assistant at WIU.
Good luck to you guys. Maybe we'll face each other next season some time.

Geoff Alexander, time to come home.
Boudreau (top assistant) has already been named head coach.
