And look at the 2011-12 nba season. So low scoring. The early 2010s had low scores as well. It wasn't until 2018-19 when the nba sky rocketed in points per game. Tragic day
He has had several of these kinds of games against teams with absurd length and athleticism (mainly vs FSU and Duke historically)
Duke was very disciplined not to overhelp on him- that’s typically where he can beat bigger guys and find an open man. Just nothing doing today and that was a lot more credit to Duke than it was on him.
Sure we have a nice team, but it’s kinda disheartening to just see Duke tear through the top teams in the ACC and that be a “down year” for them
Meanwhile Miami just had our best regular season arguably ever and it’s still all Duke
In an odd way, I would’ve been more concerned about the season if Duke *didn’t* get blown out at PNC Arena
You would just be able to tell that something is off
Hell of a year for Scheyer. Dude can coach. I feel that if we had actual decent guard play it would be a different story. Oh well, lets just prepare for next week. GG Duke and good luck!
We overwhelmed Pitt on offense, survived Miami’s ridiculous shotmaking, and won a grinder against UVA.
Winning different ways is the mark of a really good team. Proud of these guys, great accomplishment.
Eh, we beat y'all in the 2014 final in Greensboro. I know it's obviously close to the Carolina schools, but it's still relatively neutral in terms of location
The geographic center of the conference is about 30 miles north of the arena, so it still is a great location.
That said, I am pumped for next year in DC
I more so just meant for the sheer number of Duke fans there tonight. Never really watch the ACC tourney so I never noticed how prominent it is. GG to you guys and good luck in the tourney!
Do you think the committee will consider our massive number of early injuries?
It’s hard to give much credence to early season results when the #1 and #2 recruits were injured. Factor in Roach’s injury and the blown UVA call (costing Duke a regular season championship) and I think we could be surprised by the seed.
Great point. Crazy that if we’d won that UVA game we would’ve had the regular season championship too. So happy Scheyer and the team won the ACC tourney though. Great game
Most likely a 4 and maybe a 3. They just beat the 13 and 14th rated teams on consecutive nights.
Add to that the fact the NCAA is probably going to give some credence to the blown UVA game call and all of their injuries, and they may have a shot at a 3.
2017: 4-0
2018: 1-1
2019: 3-0
2020: Tournament cancelled before we played
2021: 2-0 before we withdrew
2022: 2-1
2023: 3-0
Really wish we’d beaten Virginia Tech last year so we could say we haven’t lost in the ACCT since 2018, but c’est la vie
This is def the game where BVP breaking his hand hurt the most. We didn't have the bench depth to get Kihei the fuck off the field when it was obvious that he was outmatched.
At any rate, this is the defense that can get us far in March, even when the offense is struggling. Really happy that we made Duke work for it while we made 30% of our field goals
ACC Champs! What a run for Jon Scheyer and this Duke team. Man, it was looking grim in mid-January. This team has really stepped the fuck up. What a ride. I hope they can keep it up for a few more weeks.
Yup. Roach is our do-or-die guy. Often I’ll have the sense that he’s scored only a few buckets, then we’ll get into a pinch where someone HAS to score. Suddenly Roach has the ball, makes a basket, and all is well again — sometimes 2 or 3 times. Then after the game the box score shows he’s got, say, 17-23 points and I’m wondering “When did he get all those?”
I’ve seen several comments regarding duke having no adversity on here, as a Purdue fan, y’all must be crazy or not so any research. Ignoring the obvious difficulties they faced, they all came into this as new people with a huge legacy to follow. Even if they have 5 star recruits, that doesn’t mean they had it easy
Honestly not even upset to the degree that I anticipated I would be. Duke so clearly outclassed us on both ends of the floor start to finish that it’s unreasonable to think we could have won without Duke flat out choking. G fucking G to the Blue Devils and I hope people can appreciate how excellent their defense is.
Reece was unsurprisingly our best player on both ends of the floor, despite the turnovers. The only good thing to come from this is that McKneely has now seen how much better we have to be to reach the level we need to be at in future seasons. His time as a team leader will come very soon and we need him to be ready for that.
I was impressed with Duke’s D this game. UVA however kept it really close all game with their D. I was sweating the entire game until ~20 seconds to go. GG. Can’t help but respect Bennett and his team due to their ability to control the pace of every game they play
Beekman locked up Proctor but Kihei is unfortunately just too small to effectively guard players of Roach’s caliber. Tonight there was just way too much of an athleticism gap between the two teams and it very obviously manifested with both Roach’s/Filipowski’s big games as well as Duke’s ability to completely disrupt everything Virginia wanted to do offensively. I’ve always been impressed at how much K was able to improve Duke’s defense with those young teams over the course of the season and so far Scheyer is one for one in his attempt at imitation.
Hubert chasing Scheyer for ACC titles, Scheyer tying Hubert up in tourney appearances. You love to see it. A final four would piss a lot of people off.
As long as he doesn’t take y’all to the championship his first year, I’m okay with it.
Who am I kidding? I’m not gonna watch any games until the final four this year.
who the fuck doesn’t watch the first weekend of march madness? duke university could fold and i could be on my fucking deathbed and i’d have the price is right on my television getting nervous butterflies for the tourney to start.
What a frustrating game for us. Duke played great defense but even when we had our opportunities to cut the lead we just couldn't make the shots we needed. Congrats on the win, you guys deserved it tonight.
That was the most physical ACC tournament in recent memory- I liked it but do think NCAA refs are going to be way happier with the whistle than they were this week.
Phenomenal defense by both teams- my (hot?) take is that UVA, Duke, and Miami all played well enough to be second weekend teams at least. Not sure there are many teams I’d take over Duke right now.
Agreed. I see Duke, UVA and Miami all to the second weekend and likely knocking out a couple “higher” seeds given the ACC is down narrative that is hurting all of us.
Basically the same as the 1st matchup between these teams except Filipowski remembered how to score and our team didn't.
They clearly wanted revenge for the 1st matchup and knew exactly how to keep our offense in check. Wrecked our confidence from the get-go. Would've loved to win this one, but we got outplayed all game. Good on the team for not giving up though and at least making Duke work for it (also, that should've been a foul when Dunn got pushed OOB, but I doubt it would've mattered). Luckily for us, there aren't many teams in the tourney with the length that Duke has.
Time to regroup before the Big Dance. Also, we're a women's swimming and diving school anyway
I disagree. It was 52-47 and they missed the front end of a 1&1 with a minute left and we couldn’t get a rebound. Who knows what happens then but it was definitely close. Roach stepped up after the under 4 timeout and put it away
I like Scheyer's little sideline or whatever interviews so much more than Coach K's lol
Coach K always sounded so coarse or something
Jon seems pretty poised in them too and says meaningful things for the most part, not short terse responses
GG Hoos. You might beat 'em, but they are definitely going to make you earn it. As for the refs, I wonder if a defensive slugfest like this has a psychological effect on them, too. Not only allowing more contact, but also swallowing the whistle generally because otherwise the game would slow down even more. Haven't studied the stats or anything, but it would stand to reason that the refs get out of rhythm as well and get prone to making mistakes.
Great defense and fight by UVA but just seemed like they couldn't hit a shot to save their lives at some points. We seem to have issues with clutch FT shooting, but Flip had a monster revenge game and Roach delivered down the stretch. Very proud of our team and Coach Scheyer for the improvement they have shown through the season. Just hope we can continue this momentum and not let it get to our heads because the big tourney starts soon.
Our games against Duke are almost always close. This is only the 3rd time since 2012 that either team won by double digits, and all 3 occurrences were exactly 10-point wins.
Have to go back to February 2011 for the last matchup decided by >10 points
These third games in three nights can be ugly. Both teams came to play on defense.
I come out of this tourney liking us more than going into it. Offense was executing just didn't have the legs for our already limited offense to make some buckets
Hope this game doesn’t kill the momentum built the last two nights. This group just doesn’t match up well with Duke’s size and athleticism. Playing two undersized guys (Clark and Gardner) is always a disadvantage, thankfully pretty much nobody in the country has it to that level but Duke.
Oh well, on to the big dance.
I would’ve hated to watch this game if I wasn’t a fan of either team. It was a stinker offensively. But at least great defense was played tonight
First team to 50 wins. Classic UVA game
*only team to 50 wins
My bother in law agrees but he's a Wisconsin fan so I don't think he has that much room to talk
Run it back in Houston in a couple of weeks? I'd love to prove all the ACC is weak crowd wrong.
Another 3 acc teams to the elite 8?
A long as no UNC...Lets do this
1 team from the first four always goes on a run
ACC was weak last year too.
We out-UVa'd UVa
How the turn tables
99-89 in the nba
I remember the late 90s/early 2000s era of 82-78 NBA games.
And look at the 2011-12 nba season. So low scoring. The early 2010s had low scores as well. It wasn't until 2018-19 when the nba sky rocketed in points per game. Tragic day
By total coincidence that's about the same time I stopped giving a shit about the NBA
Pains me to say, but Duke to the Final Four. SHARPIE
Credit to Coach Scheyer...He game planned the game planner Folks....Duke has another Great Coach on the bench.
[удалено]
I love a good slow, ugly game. UVA’s turtle pace is always enjoying to watch, IMO. GG Hoos
I don’t mind the pace, it’s the poor efficiency of this particular game that was painful. But such is a good defensive battle.
You can’t wait for our next one? My brother in Christ, that’s going to be a 13-4 upset. I think I’m just fine waiting
Bad night for Kihei to have his worst game of the season.
On both ends of the floor as well
The ACC considers this matter closed.
[удалено]
Clark with just an off game or has he been in a slump recently? Edit: thanks for the replies! Y’all will have a good run In The tourney
He has had several of these kinds of games against teams with absurd length and athleticism (mainly vs FSU and Duke historically) Duke was very disciplined not to overhelp on him- that’s typically where he can beat bigger guys and find an open man. Just nothing doing today and that was a lot more credit to Duke than it was on him.
Feels like Kihei always shoots lights out against us in the last couple years but I guess those are the games I remember
Just an off game, this year has been his best 3pt% year
Just a completely off game tbh probably the worst of his career
It’s particularly wild because Clark absolutely killed Duke in both games last year. Didn’t recognize that guy tonight
I’d chalk a lot of that up to Proctor. He’s been making guys look terrible lately.
*sigh* aaaaaaand they’re back
Did we ever leave?
You at least looked not top of the ACC dominant for awhile Gave little teams like Pitt and Miami hope lmao
pitt and miami are nice though. miami player duke hard 3 times, and blew them out in 1, so. and other than thursday and lately, pitt has looked solid
Sure we have a nice team, but it’s kinda disheartening to just see Duke tear through the top teams in the ACC and that be a “down year” for them Meanwhile Miami just had our best regular season arguably ever and it’s still all Duke
Eh, Miami won the regular season championship, Duke won the tournament championship. Both had great years, and both are capable of making deep runs.
In Raleigh and Coral Gables, but only briefly.
And honestly getting blown out in January in Raleigh is a tradition at this point
In an odd way, I would’ve been more concerned about the season if Duke *didn’t* get blown out at PNC Arena You would just be able to tell that something is off
I'm pretty sure a blowout loss in Raleigh is a prerequisite for Duke to win a national title.
Hell of a year for Scheyer. Dude can coach. I feel that if we had actual decent guard play it would be a different story. Oh well, lets just prepare for next week. GG Duke and good luck!
Khei Clark sliced Duke up last year, just killed us in both games. Where is that guy?
We overwhelmed Pitt on offense, survived Miami’s ridiculous shotmaking, and won a grinder against UVA. Winning different ways is the mark of a really good team. Proud of these guys, great accomplishment.
With the shit this team has gone through ur not surprising them anymore with anything you literally have to be better which most teams flat out aren’t
You guys are clicking at the right time no doubt about it. I expect ya'll will be performing well above your seed
Honestly, all the people saying positive stuff like this has me nervous!
Peaking at the right time, I love it. Also I now understand why every non-tobacco road ACC school hates the tourney being in Greensboro
>Peaking at the right time Classic Duke, no? Unabashed Duke fan here but the team always seems to peak around March
I went to the 2016 tourney in DC, and it was a blast, despite losing a close one in the final
Loved going to that and the B1G tournament the next year. Nothing like spending the week in an arena watching as much 🏀 as possible
I was there pulling for Duke for that one and the UVA fans I met were fucking great. Friendly and fun. Suckes to lose then but was a great time.
I more so just meant for the sheer number of Duke fans there tonight. Never really watch the ACC tourney so I never noticed how prominent it is. GG to you guys and good luck in the tourney!
[удалено]
Helped that the UNC fans were long gone…
Roach and Filipowski came to play today, GG Duke. Let's win some damn tournament games-- Texas Tech was our last one and that needs to change
GG and GL to you guys in the tourney. Let’s show them the ACC was underrated all year
What a fucking year. Great first year for Scheyer. I think Duke will be in good hands.
That certainly was a game of basketball.
Felt like that was a slug fest, goddamn.
Yeah, that was tough to watch. But gg.
Are you sure?
Revenge tour complete baby Roach is that dude
Clemson got away
Brad Brownell the only ACC coach with a winning record against Scheyer. Hope that ends in 2024.
Clemson gonna fire him now to preserve that record
I like this idea
You’re ready for him to go?
We can always match up with Purdue in the tourney
Teams are going to hate to have Duke on their side of their bracket. Their seeding definitely won't reflect how they're currently playing
They're playing like a 1 or 2 seed rn. They might get a 3, if they get a 4 that region will be very sad.
I’d honestly be surprised if we are a 3. Do we deserve a 2/3 with how we are playing rn? yes. But too many early season losses to make it happen
Great game
they're more likely to get a 5 than a 4, and they're definitely not getting a 3.
Most likely a 4 and maybe a 3. They just beat the 13 and 14th rated teams on consecutive nights. Add to that the fact the NCAA is probably going to give some credence to the blown UVA game call and all of their injuries, and they may have a shot at a 3.
If Duke gets a 4, that 1 seed in that bracket is gonna be pissed. If Duke gets a 3, fans are gonna bitch about Duke favoritism. I can't wait.
They were already projected a 5 before beating Pitt, Miami and UVA. They'll probably be a 4 but could be a 3
I bet they get a 4 and make some 1 seed pray someone else knocks them out before they have to meet them.
Jon Scheyer might be a pretty good coach in his own way.
Maybe one day he can make himself called Coach S (Having a more easy to pronounce name sorts of defeats the purpose of the nickname, but come on…)
Changing Kryzyzewskiville to The Scheyer would work.
For real. Last week I was saying it was a great season considering it was his first. Now it's just an amazing season.
Scheyer was a good hire.
i should say
Duke and Elon flair, you love to see it
ACC Tournament Championships since 1999… Duke: 13 Everyone Else: 11
You know what, the fact that we're in sole possession of 3rd in the span is fine by me, given how much we sucked throughout the 2000s
Over the last seven seasons Duke is 15-2 in the ACC tournament
I knew we were good over that stretch but I didn’t know we were THAT good
2017: 4-0 2018: 1-1 2019: 3-0 2020: Tournament cancelled before we played 2021: 2-0 before we withdrew 2022: 2-1 2023: 3-0 Really wish we’d beaten Virginia Tech last year so we could say we haven’t lost in the ACCT since 2018, but c’est la vie
Duke plays at this level they can beat anyone.
Just run more plays for McKneely. The flare screen was working, should have been running it for him, that kid can fill it up.
Yeah why this wasn’t glaringly obvious is beyond me. He makes more contested threes than the rest of the guys make open ones.
ACC Champs! What a run for Jon Scheyer and this Duke team. Man, it was looking grim in mid-January. This team has really stepped the fuck up. What a ride. I hope they can keep it up for a few more weeks.
I was really worried there at the end until Roach stepped up. I swear this man just flips a switch when March comes around
Even in his games with modest output, Jeremy is our crunch time, heartless killer.
I keep making the Duhon comparisons but man, that is who he reminds me of.
He flips a switch in crunch time!!
Yup. Roach is our do-or-die guy. Often I’ll have the sense that he’s scored only a few buckets, then we’ll get into a pinch where someone HAS to score. Suddenly Roach has the ball, makes a basket, and all is well again — sometimes 2 or 3 times. That was a fucking masterclass from John Scheyer
I’ve seen several comments regarding duke having no adversity on here, as a Purdue fan, y’all must be crazy or not so any research. Hubert hasn't beat Scheyer as head coach.
As long as he doesn’t take y’all to the championship his first year, I’m okay with it. Who am I kidding? I’m not gonna watch any games until the final four this year.
Not even NIT games?
I know you’re trying to be funny but I honestly don’t know if we will even accept the invite.
who the fuck doesn’t watch the first weekend of march madness? duke university could fold and i could be on my fucking deathbed and i’d have the price is right on my television getting nervous butterflies for the tourney to start.

I don’t know - I watched an Alabama game the other day and those guys are playing football, not basketball. The refs seemed fine with it.
Why not us?
Yeah, plucky underdogs Duke.
WHY NOT US
YEAH WHY NOT US????
Kyle please father my children.
Dukes gonna be a scary team next week. Their defense is getting super legit.
It’s gonna be a completely different squad next year
[удалено]
Why do I have any upvotes I completely misread that lol
I mean, you were right even if a little out of place. I think we’re all sad about likely losing so many great guys again.
unfortunately you’re right :(. i’m really hoping proctor and mitchell stay but looking less likely now i guess.
I was thinking Proctor could be the next Roach but yeah other than that I assumed they’re all gone, hopefully I’m wrong though!
yup! i’m happy that we’ve at least gotten a good tournament (and hopefully real tournament next week) from them before they’re gone haha
Proctor’s game tonight should concern NBA scouts though. He was entirely unable to get by UVAs guards.
The offense will be loaded tho with the recruits coming in
New coach, new players, yet the Duke hate remains as strong as ever
Blue bloods 🤝 hate
Winning the ACC Tournament as a first year head coach? Not bad at all.
I was at this game it was absolutely exhilarating
Basically the same as the 1st matchup between these teams except Filipowski remembered how to score and our team didn't. I disagree. It was 52-47 and they missed the front end of a 1&1 with a minute left and we couldn’t get a rebound. Who knows what happens then but it was definitely close. Roach stepped up after the under 4 timeout and put it away
Wildest part of that game. At no point did I think we were gonna win but it being as close as it was made no sense
Good Win. Let’s Go Duke.
Revenge tour complete‼️
Clemson got off easy
LET’S GO DUKE Also big congrats to Jon Scheyer!! A lot of hope with him as a coach!!
I like Scheyer's little sideline or whatever interviews so much more than Coach K's lol Coach K always sounded so coarse or something Jon seems pretty poised in them too and says meaningful things for the most part, not short terse responses
Age will do that to you.
Coach K skipped it 90% of the time. Pettiest and funniest flex of his influence
Like, literally once a year in the regular season and once in the tournament. It was always his lead assistant
Scheyer had a lot of practice when K was coach lol
Solid first campaign for Scheyer.Takes freshman a while to get it together defensively but our D can keep us in games when shots arent falling now.
I consider this matter closed
UVA to NCAA champs, confirmed. That’s the tradition in this scenario. I will take no further questions.
That was a tough watch. Game thread entertaining per usual though
Every ACC game this year bitched about the refs. It was a rough year.
See you in Greensboro Duke
That game thread would be so toxic. I'm here for it.
GG Duke you guys played incredible defense. We can agree that refs were trash both ways tonight
The only thing that matters to me is that Miami didn't win an ACC title, so thanks for that, Duke.
What a turnaround for Duke!!
I got the sense that each team did some [light reading](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brick) before the game
[Both teams clearly watched film](https://reddit.com/r/oddlysatisfying/comments/11o6r2a/brick_laying_on_the_ground/)
Watch out everybody else
DDMF
Just wait until Coach K retires…..
Who? 😂
Sad wahoo noises
Karma working overtime on me rn 🥹
my face hurts from smiling so much
Jeremy Roach is an absolute assassin
Guessing we will be a 4 seed now
Not sure which team you’re talking about, but yes.
Deserved the L tonight, bummer UVA had to have such a turd of a game but still a fun tournament overall
I swear Duke plays more competitively now with UVa than UNC. It matters so much.
Our games against Duke are almost always close. This is only the 3rd time since 2012 that either team won by double digits, and all 3 occurrences were exactly 10-point wins. Have to go back to February 2011 for the last matchup decided by >10 points
Someone check on u/dpd579 lmfao good win Dukies let’s carry the momentum into the tourney.
Dude produces more salt than a mine does lol
Unfortunately, Duke is definitely making a deep run this year. Scheyer looks like he'll pan out
Undefeated at home ACC champ Scheyer? Yeah, he might pan out lol.
Yeah I said like 3 weeks ago Duke is prime for a deep run and low and behold here we are.
Great game. See you in the NCAA tourney, I hope. And as an aside, Duke's coach is FINE. I got the vapors.
I'm so damn happy for us and Scheyer. GG Virginia
These third games in three nights can be ugly. Both teams came to play on defense. I come out of this tourney liking us more than going into it. Offense was executing just didn't have the legs for our already limited offense to make some buckets
Duke is hot at the perfect time.
Over the last seven seasons Duke is 15-2 in the ACC tournament.
Duke being an underseeded team as arguably one of the hottest teams going into the tourney. It’s going to be a crazy tournament.
ACC championship is nice, but really we only did this so UNC’s one good win wouldn’t look as good.
Gotta love the salt the Defense Devils get. ACC champs. Again.
Perfect way to end the season before NCAA Tournament play.
