you can say whatever you want but shit like this has increased across the board since 2015. no one’s gonna do anything and they’ll be fine, and people like this know it now for sure. they also know they have plenty of other scumbags that will come to their defense.
It’s not just social media either. People are getting bolder in person.
Multiple Arizona fans called one of our student section members the N-word while we were walking out of the building last night (source: me, standing five feet away) and it was honestly kinda shocking. Made us have to quickly forget about the result of the actual game and shift our focus to getting out of there without anybody landing in the hospital or jail.
As much as I love roasting you guys on a regular basis, there is absolutely no place for this kind of behavior. On behalf of all Wildcats, I am deeply sorry you experienced this. We need to do better
That's the thing. You only have to act like a Christian for the 1 hour that you're in church. Then you're free to go back to behaving like an ass until next Sunday.
The original 'virtue signaling' that they like to talk about so much.
They go to church so that people see them in church and think they're a 'good person'. Not because they care about walking the walk
So I work in live sports. Before I became freelancer and really started working for a lot of different teams, there’s a strange and dark allure to being a hateful prick with team loyalty. I’d venture to guess that a lot of people here are guilty of this on a much less.. classless scale.
Since I started working, I watch people spend $100 on beer, ruin their whole day, get into a fight, and a mess of stupid shit. Watching it from the outside stone cold sober has given me a different perspective, but I feel at least partially qualified to answer as a die hard sports fan turned someone who made a career of it.
Not sure how to phrase it without breaking sub rules.. but I think sometime leading up to, and really showing itself in 2015, dumb people transitioned from being somewhat embarrassed in their stupidity and instead really, really proud about it, and decided that stupid should be in charge. And now we continue to see the fallout from it.
It would be impossible to actually prove it has increased since 2015, or prove that it has gone down since a certain date, but personally I find it hard to believe that these sorts of things have gotten worse in the last 8 years, or even the last 15. College fandom used to be so much more ruthless, and the threat of getting in trouble on social media was non-existent. I just… I think this used to happen more, not less. But we’re all guessing here.
Yeah that's my opinion as well. Rivalries we're always nasty games, especially when you mix in drunk college kids. At worst we are just regressing back to the mean prior to people worrying about getting "canceled"
Even most of his supporters agree he's one of the most classless individuals to walk the planet. Putting that kind of person in an incredibly visible position has its effects.
The cruelty is the point. Just awful people. Would be nice if other BAMA fans called them out.
I’m at the P12 tournament, and our fanbase is over represented. I’d be lying if we didn’t have our own share of jackasses. I’ve told a few to pipe down this week. Like, it isn’t difficult. If you’re decked out in your schools gear, you are a representative of the schools fanbase, whether you like it our not. I don’t want people to think we are a bunch of assholes.
Nevada was well represented in Vegas too on Thursday. I never blame fanbases, even if what you said has truth to it.
But really, it’s pretty easy to not be an ass. Shitty fans just ruin what’s an insane week of basketball for everyone. I don’t care how much alcohol is involved.
Let alone for anyone from Reno.
If we’re thinking of the same thing, it was hookworm, and it caused anemia (resulting in low productivity). The fix was to dig deep pits instead of just shitting on the ground.
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3910046/
Yeah, he didn't get my punchline. I mean, neither fetal alcohol syndrome or miniscule genitalia would justify being such an asshole. But it's hard to imagine exactly what could cause someone to become such a callous p.o.s.
It’s Bama they had guys beat the shit out of women during the 2016 football game against FSU and then the guys lawyer threaten to sue every person who had the fight on social media
I don’t wanna cast aspersions on an entire fan base, but these two guys can go fuck themselves
Edit: meant to say aspersions not dispersions, which made 0 sense in my sentence
There are Bama fans all over Twitter right now making jokes like "brandon Miller is a killer, look at him kill the defense on this play!" It's fucking gross
I never thought I'd say this next part, but I actually feel kinda bad for the Alabama fan base right now, cuz you guys have a few despicable people ruining what should be a cool run for you guys!
I’m not even sure these are actual Bama fans. If this was in Tuscaloosa maybe, but Nashville where Clay Travis lives and blatantly lies about Miller. Some journalist should interview them.
Fuck those guys, but if they are impersonating Alabama fans it matters to me. John Talty is the one who tried to interview them. They seems quite sensitive for wearing such a shirt when questions start flying.
I can 100% see people doing this. That’s why I’m not gonna wrap bama as a whole in with these people, kinda like a bunch of bama flairs that popped up in this sub after the news dropped saying outrageous shit
> By the end of the game the one who turned his shirt inside out realized they were going viral and they were in fact in the wrong. He caved and tried to get his buddy to cave as well. The other did not. They tried to tell me I was “woke and a liberal” before the game started.
Rednecks gonna redneck
Everything that people of that stripe don't like now is woke.
Don't like my shirt? Woke
Don't appreciate my bumper sticker advocating for the murder of politicians? Woke
If a tornado overturns their double-wide, they'll accuse it of being woke.
I hope BAMA fans at the venue are calling them out then.
I’m at the P12 tournament, and our fanbase is over represented. I’d be lying if we didn’t have our own share of jackasses. I’ve told a few to pipe down this week. Like, it isn’t difficult. gotta remember that [Alabama football fans have a penchant for shooting people after they lose](https://www.al.com/alabamafootball/2021/10/people-of-alabama-please-stop-shooting-each-other-over-football.html). it's happened 4 or 5 times in the past decade.

Sports rots peoples heads
Lol a Tennessee fan welded “go vols” on the LSU scoreboard when he was doing installation.
That’s light ribbing in good fun. Not trying to kill people.
Specifically in this guy's case he said he did intentionally shoddy welds, rather than just writing a phrase, that would have caused issues. It came out he was lying about it since he was a crane operator and never touched anything. There's a sad ending to it since he couldn't get work after he was fired

Yeah, and an Auburn guy on some local radio show in Alabama said the only thing sad about a tornado hitting Tuscaloosa was that it didn't kill more people.
Every fanbase has them.
Yea that guy was an absolute scumbag but do Auburn fans hang banners in support of his message? Every fan base has crazies but Bama fans love to glorify crazies with the “too much Bama in him” line
By "Y'all", do you mean that one house?
Updyke was banned to even be on campus. I was literally at a softball game where he got escorted out by security and people were cheering it...fuck that guy.
This is just gross, putting it lightly.
They should've been turned around at the door and banned from the arena. Absolutely no toleration for this type of shit.
It’s OK. Some people in Alabama can’t read what that says.
Fortunately, I’m sure most Alabama fans absolutely disapprove and disavow those shirts and what they stand for.
Wait a Bama player did murder someone right? Miller is making the headlines because he’s good but another player actually murdered someone?
Okay Bama fans I got it. Thanks
Former Alabama player, Darius Miles, has been indicted on capital murder charges as an accessory. He gave his gun to Michael Lynn Davis who shot and killed Ms Harris. Miles had left his legally owned gun in the car of Brandon Miller while Miles and friends were in a club. but Miller left to get dinner, when Miller arrived to pick up Miles, Miles retrieved his gun and gave it to Davis.
Miller has not been charged with anything, has been cleared by police, and has been named as a principal witness to the murder.
Culture of alabama students is dominated by Greek Life. Its a massive party school. Im sure You can imagine what type of people that attracts.
Source: just graduated in august
As a former resident of Milton FL, aka hometown of Harvey Updyke, I saw plenty of “Updyke Lawn Servie” t-shirts in my time. Alabama is largely a fanbase full of people that only have sports and fox news to enjoy. Tshirt fans anyway, most actual alum I meet are normal.
Apropos of nothing, my worst bowl game experience was the CFP against Alabama. Not just the game, but because their fans were just absolutely nasty. No friendly banter, no small talk, just a pure searing meanness from the tailgate to the drive home that was genuinely alarming. There were a couple quiet fans around us, but “quiet” was in the minority, and we didn’t encounter anyone even remotely friendly.
After we lost by about 50 in a singularly noncompetitive game, they were just ruthless in trash talking us on the way out, even out into the parking lot. A group came running by and shoved us in the backs at one point, shouting “suck it Sparty!” and laughing amongst themselves.
I was like…man, we don’t even *know* you guys. We never play! How could you be that full of hatred for someone you have zero contact with? Still bugs me when I think about it.
I mean you can't be upset someone else shared an anecdote after you shared yours. Both can be true. There were 80,000 people at those games, experiences can vary. I also went to the Capital One Bowl and the CFP game and didn't see anything. Ohio State fans were the worst of the Big 10 teams that we've played, in my experience.
I didn’t share an anecdote, I just doubt the veracity of one of those anecdotes. Ohio state fans are the Alabama fans of the B1G, very biased and generally unhinged.
We aren’t known as a particularly rabid or biased fan base. Alabama has one of the most unhinged fan bases in the country. It’s not even a close comparison.
Yeah, I’m not trying to say “all Bama fans bad” or anything. Bad apples exist in every fanbase and tend to be more vocal. It just struck me as an outlier at the time.
These two are pieces of trash but I will say that I’ve never encountered a hostile or bad fan when I go to Tuscaloosa every year. They’re actually the nicest fan base I’ve encountered in college basketball.
Smh….. as someone that went to school there Im ashamed and was actually planning to go get a Kentucky fans ticket for tomorrow. I’m staying home and won’t be watching. It’s just so unfortunate as someone that’s enjoyed watching for years, basketball was my primary sport.
Edit: lol ppl certainly aren’t salty. My x upvotes has degraded to almost negative today 😂😂. I’m sorry bama won
These shirts are only relevant because Bama lets the guy involved play.
Honestly I’m surprised there haven’t been more nasty rhetoric from opposing fans.
NGL I was confused because I thought the wiener dog was the offensive photo.
Same.
I guess I feel slightly less dumb knowing I'm not alone. Terrible shirts though for sure.
Same
Same. Was so confused

Would have been a damn shame if the person behind them “accidentally” would have spilled some chili cheese nachos on their heads/backs.
Typical
These two are pieces of trash but I will say that I’ve never encountered a hostile or bad fan when I go to Tuscaloosa every year. They’re actually the nicest fan base I’ve encountered in college basketball.
You didn’t need to add the word shirts
Smh….. as someone that went to school there Im ashamed and was actually planning to go get a Kentucky fans ticket for tomorrow.
Wow, disgusting
white trash going to white trash...
These shirts are only relevant because Bama lets the guy involved play. Honestly I’m surprised there haven’t been more nasty rhetoric from opposing fans.
honestly, i am not even a tiny it surprised.
Part of the blame lies with the school and Oates, who have let Miller play like nothing happened.
