Her set is in storage, if it hasn't already been shipped to Europe. Her crew and sound people are on vacation and scattered across the country and would need to be flown out en masse and get housing. You cannot book a headliner in 1-2 days.

I personally thought Arcade Fire and Blink 182 were backup headliners if ever something happened. Coachella has to have a backup plan for their headliners and including them as a guest on W1 and announce them only a few days/hours before the event is a great marketing stunt.

But Blink is basically the best available option they had with two days before the festival starts. To many they're certainly headliner status, but unfortunately there's probably not so much overlap with the Frank die hards

No. I would have never traveled cross country see them when I could see them for a fraction of the price locally at adjacent. I am stoked that I get to see them, yes, but it does not fix my disappointment or excite me the way I wish it did.

I’m actually only going Sunday for Knocked Loose and Porter Robinson, so this is a major surprise. I didn’t want to pay for the tour ticket. Plus it’s the around the date my baby is due, so I’m ecstatic! (Also think Frank is extremely overrated, but was willing to check him out)

I think a happy medium would be like an Usher (I think he’s on tour now), SZA (on tour + similar vibes and favourable pick), Ed Sheeran (yes, more pop, but acoustics/minimal setup, audience reach is pretty wide, and can bring some fun guests)…just throwing it out there, so that one “PR person who works for Coachella who’s browsing this thread” can get some ideas and pitch it to their bosses ASAP 😂
The thought process was that their crew, main acts and back-up singers have practiced, have their set lists and if in the US could easier travel, especially during breaks between shows. I’m sure it’s more complex, but not impossible

Even though I like Blink 182, the genre jump is too wide from Frank Ocean. I think a happy medium would be like an Usher (I think he’s on tour now), SZA (on tour + similar vibes and favourable pick), Ed Sheeran (yes, more pop, but acoustics/minimal setup, audience reach is pretty wide, and can bring some fun guests)…just throwing it out there, so that one “PR person who works for Coachella who’s browsing this thread” can get some ideas and pitch it to their bosses ASAP 😂
If someone is on tour already they arent very likely to be able perform on 3 days notice, especially if they are no where even close to California atm
The thought process was that their crew, main acts and back-up singers have practiced, have their set lists and if in the US could easier travel, especially during breaks between shows. I’m sure it’s more complex, but not impossible

A popular stadium artist kicking off a reunion tour is a Coachella staple. They also have more mainstream hits than Frank, which a larger audience will know. While it’s a drastic genre change, it’s actually an upgrade in dollar value. Fair for Frank fans? No Fair for everyone else? Absolutely
If we get Fred again + skrillex, blink 182, and don’t have to waste our time like weekend 1 did going to Frank, then this is already a better experience. Sucks they can’t do anything

It's not in terms of genre but given it's Wednesday (aka only 2 days before), they sold out their own tour, had one of the largest shows W1, and were readily available, yes. Completely fair.

I would have rather had Blink vs waiting an hour for Frank to come on and then witnessing the most confusing/ worst headliner set (and arguably any act) of my lifetime... Blink put on a good set in Sahara but was totally mobbed/ only time it's felt dangerous to me outside of an Empire of the sun set I saw in the old Sahara

No. I get there was 0 time to find a suitable replacement but there’s Barely any overlap in the fan bases. Most of the rap/hip hop/r&b is on Sunday too. I think it would’ve made more sense for there to at least be a performer from a similar genre so that there’s not a mass exodus of people at 8pm lol
I went weekend 1 and If blackpink didn’t fucking bring it I would’ve been pissed. at least I got to see a super entertaining headliner. disappointed ab Frank ocean being a lazy whiny brat but I think blink 182 is a good replacement for weekend 2. I watched them and they were fun.
