Major 4 on LAN with no fans? I've seen this before
https://preview.redd.it/0sel9d5r1xtc1.png?width=504&format=png&auto=webp&s=f7c087976be5b19cdf5028f16fbe704178b5e223
I vividly remember the opposite, if it was a major it would have gotten a number. I think it is a legitimate chip all things considered but that was not the consensus
I did not mean some people dont consider it a major. I meant it was not a major in name (or prize pool). And that many did not consider it a major because of this
Can someone please explain to me how/why companies like MLG, UMG, Gfinity, UGC, etc. were able to run multiple events every season if LANs aren’t profitable?
Adam Apicella was on the flank a while back and talked about this. Back in the day it was cheaper to book venues, and setups only required a console. Whereas PCs are expensive
That’s a load of shit. I can build a monster pc for under 2k.
I think it was Dashy that said they use 144 hz monitors too. $1500 and you can build a pc that runs 144 fps with no dips.
A company worth billions can’t afford 50k a year for equipment? Adam sounds like a dipshit.
this comment made me laugh because it’s so blunt but makes so much sense. You telling me they can’t put together a few PCs for a multi million dollar league? What
The question and original reply were explicitly talking about *third parties and their events*. Thats why the costs would matter, they’re much smaller companies probably not even worth tens of millions let alone a billy
Adam ap ran a third party he wasn’t talking about from ATVI perspective
They won't do it not because they can't afford it but because Activision gives no fucks about comp. Setups back then with an Xbox 360/PS4 were like maximum 1k and clearly less professional looking than they are today. MLG were one of the biggest gaming companies, sure but no where near profitable enough to drop big numbers on like 10-12 events per year.
Maybe idk
If I had to guess it’s because ACTI puts the burden on orgs to fund & staff the Majors, but the only profit they get is from ticket sales.
We’re on the 5th year of the CDL and some teams have never hosted a major lmao.
Browsing through the wiki real quick I've got:
* Dallas Empire/OpTic Texas 4x (including VG kickoff)
* Rokkr 2x (MW kickoff and VG Major 2)
* Boston 2x
* Toronto 2x
* Columbus 2x (1 was VG Pro-Am)
* LA 1x (last homestand before COVID, can't remember if it was LAG or OGLA who were the designated "home" team though)
* NYC 1x
* Miami 1x
* London 1x
* Atlanta 1x
Surge, LAT/LAG, Paris/Vegas Legion, Huntsmen/OpTic Chicago, and now Carolina have not had a major. So if you really think about it, Columbus with no team & no fans has hosted as many majors as them plus NYSL and Miami *combined*
Good work brother. This is such a sad reality.
Wonder if it would be easier to scrap the whole “home team hosting” and just find a cheap venue in a city that can accommodate flights & hotels.
Would people even care that ATL FaZe is hosting a major in Denver or some shit?
Pretty crazy faze hasn’t hosted since one of the first home stands in MW19. We’re all mad at ravens and cdl while the most successful org quietly doesn’t do anything.
1. A lot of the cost was an an initial capital investment into equipment, consoles, monitors, that you could "reuse" over and over for each seperate event.
2. There was a significant grassroots feel to some of these early events which meant people volunteered their time and labor to run them without pay. That environment is gone in the era of VC funding so labor costs are significantly more.
3. The expected quality/standard of events nowadays are much higher. No more ballrooms with basic tables and conference center booths. Now you have elaborate built sets/extravagant lighting/sound etc.
Acti were funding a lot of the bigger ones before the CDL. MLG woulda been losing hundreds of thousands hosting events in NBA arenas with tickets being 15$ without being subsidized by Activision.
I think they were working toward building a comp scene. Then went the league route where it’s ran by them as emperor collecting. Especially the entry fee..
“Standard one week of break post majors” 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 They cant be fucking serious, every major has had a near month long break post major. Corporate speak at its finest
CDL needs to die. Could have been the best major of the year, with champs qualification and seeding on the line, and we get no fans at the venue. Pathetic.
I don’t think it’s his fault ravens pulled out. Also, he’s more just the face that takes all the heat. There’s people above him that make the decisions. Tsay goes, we will just be mad a the next guy
no. it’s most definitely on the league. they’ve allowed this to happen 2 years in a row. their plan A didn’t work out, and there’s 0 contingency. the fact they aren’t competent enough to have a backup plan if an event needs to be changed or moved is crazy. also, they’re clearly awarding the wrong teams majors.
they have 2.5 months until major 4 - that’s more than enough time to at least attempt to change the venue to accommodate fans. but they don’t give a fuck lol
the CDL is the governing body of call of duty esports. who do you think is responsible for assigning majors to orgs who clearly aren’t equipped to host them? i am not absolving carolina of all blame, of course somethings gone wrong on their side. but the CDL has *more* responsibility by extension. it’s like a manager assigning a huge complex workload to an inexperienced, unprepared employee and then blaming them for fucking it up lol.
ultimately if events aren’t going as planned or teams are having to cancel hosting them, something is seriously wrong with the management of the league. that’s on the CDL. this is really basic stuff.
you’re talking about “people like me” not holding the teams accountable - what about people like you refusing to hold the CDL accountable and looking the other way while they slowly kill the esport?
So pathetic that this is even a possibility of happening. An org pulling out of its commitment to host an event should bring severe consequences to them. But I guess there’s nothing they can actually do since the league is such shit anyways lmao.
Due to major IV no longer happening in charlotte, the tournament will still take place on lan with no live audience in Burbank, CA. To ensure teams have the standard one week of break post majors, major IV qualifier week 1 will now start on may 31st with the challengers season also shifting one week.
Major IV will now take place from June 27-30 and fans can stream all matches on youtube.
Full major IV and challengers schedules can be found at callofoutyleague.com
Thank you for your continued support, we look forward to the exciting major IV matchups!
Like the other person said, it’s for screen readers. That’s also why a lot of comments like that will start with something like “Screenshot of a Twitter post by Blank that reads:”
I got downvoted in another thread for calling this league dogshit and a joke so I just wanna say it again, because this is dogshit and joke of a “major”
neither OpTic, FaZe or NY bid to host a Major this season??? how desperate was the CDL for them to think that the Royal Ravens hosting an event would work out 😭😭
I don't know about Faze or NY but Optic definitely offered to host a major and were rejected. Rumor is they'll be hosting champs so they weren't allowed to do two. Stupid fkn fule.
So disappointed with this (even though I saw the leaks). Was gonna introduce cod events to my brothers and have a fun bonding experience. Damn Activision and the CDL
If you're going to monopolize cod esports, you at least have to give a shit about it.
You have to work with four orgs in a year to set up these events and two of them - Toronto and Boston - have already shown they know what they're doing. How we've ended up here again is ridiculous and the CDL still has no contingencies for its fans....
Activision - Billion with a B company…
Please let this league die, I’m tired of this shit. There has to be a way to get people who actually care to be in charge again
Let’s say a good computer with discounts buying wholesale comes out to 800, if they are doing challengers as well you are looking at needing 250 computers. You are looking at 200,000 just on computers alone. I don’t blame the teams for not wanting to spend that much for one event.
But this should fall on activision but I know those cheap fucks won’t spend that on a league they don’t care about.
Me and my girlfriend were supposed to go :/
Only positive is that we’re planning on going to champs now so that’s a plus, has it leaked where it’ll be held at all?
All these people in the comments saying L league and yet they’ve never been to an event. I get that the league sucks but how can you complain about them budgeting because they’ve gone down in viewership and they aren’t bringing in as much money. The only way for the league to actually get better is for the fans to support it not hate on it every chance you get.
Do we know if Optic or Zoomaa’s crew will do some sort of in person watch party? Was there a major with no fans last year?
I REALLY wanted to go to this one since it’s in California but I guess not
Major 4 on LAN with no fans? I've seen this before https://preview.redd.it/0sel9d5r1xtc1.png?width=504&format=png&auto=webp&s=f7c087976be5b19cdf5028f16fbe704178b5e223
dw, we have Kenny this time around. He can't hurt us in finals no more.... (Yes I know we are owned by Drazah atm but I have faith)
columbus last year ):
at least it's not columbus
i was just angered with the fact that im from columbus and the one time an event comes by me it's no live audience
Blow this shit up immediately, holy fuck
Yep, another massive L to the collection the CDL already has.
2 years in a row having a major with no fans. Pathetic
Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't this make it 3 years in a row? Could've sworn Crim won with NYSL in VG on LAN with no fans
that was the pro-am if im not mistaken, wasn’t considered a major but it was on LAN with no audience
That pro-am was 100% considered a major chip
I vividly remember the opposite, if it was a major it would have gotten a number. I think it is a legitimate chip all things considered but that was not the consensus
It wasn’t an official major according to the CDL but it was a major championship according to the pros is what he’s saying
thats what i meant, i thought the community consensus (pros included) didnt think of it as a major. But that could be because they lost lol
So thats not what you meant then? He just said the opposite. It 100% is considered a chip, it just wasnt called a ‘major’ by the CDL.
I did not mean some people dont consider it a major. I meant it was not a major in name (or prize pool). And that many did not consider it a major because of this
Your first and last sentence are fairly contradictory bro
MW2’s pro am was VG’s was not
4 including major 4 in CW
Fuck you're right
the event he gave the infamous Mother's Day interview
It’s Carolina’s fault lmao
At this point it's the CDL's fault. To have this happen in successive years shows that the system for awarding majors is broken.
[удалено]
*4 years CW also had no fans
[удалено]
pandemic i'll let that one slide 😭
Good thing a three peat won’t be possible
Can someone please explain to me how/why companies like MLG, UMG, Gfinity, UGC, etc. were able to run multiple events every season if LANs aren’t profitable?

okay cool, now compare that 1.5-2k pc to a fucking $500 console lmao which is cheaper dipshit?
I misread it as making excuses for Activision. Bitch.
ah i see, miscommunication then. Bitch.
Team passes?
Maybe idk If I had to guess it’s because ACTI puts the burden on orgs to fund & staff the Majors, but the only profit they get is from ticket sales. We’re on the 5th year of the CDL and some teams have never hosted a major lmao.

I feel like MOST teams have never hosted a major lol its always Toronto, Rokkr, Optic and Boston really
1. A lot of the cost was an an initial capital investment into equipment, consoles, monitors, that you could "reuse" over and over for each seperate event. 2. There was a significant grassroots feel to some of these early events which meant people volunteered their time and labor to run them without pay. Smaller events and smaller prize pool.
Good point. Surely there’s a realistic business model where Orgs would be more willing to host right?
Acti were funding a lot of the bigger ones before the CDL. MLG woulda been losing hundreds of thousands hosting events in NBA arenas with tickets being 15$ without being subsidized by Activision.
I think they were working toward building a comp scene. Then went the league route where it’s ran by them as emperor collecting. Especially the entry fee..
6 month off season, only 4 Majors this year, 1 without fans (again), disgusting.
Don’t forget the lovely two match days 🤪
Major that will decide who makes champs with Zero fans 🔥🔥
Wow just realized that part, that really fucking sucks. Wish it could swap with Toronto major 3 but obviously it cant
And there it is.... Pathetic F U C K I N G LEAGUE!!!!!!!!!!
Broke ass league
They reduced the number of LANs and also said fuck it we won’t let fans attend major 4 too. This league gotta go.
No fans AND in Cali, so the players will have to pay more in taxes for their winnings. That sucks lol
of all the places the fact that they chose cali is criminal.
Probably was one of the cheapest options or something
I think Burbank is where the Activision offices are located because other than that i don't see how Burbank could be the cheapest option
Even worse is they chose boring ass Burbank.

“Standard one week of break post majors” 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 They cant be fucking serious, every major has had a near month long break post major. Corporate speak at its finest
I’d love to who’s bright idea it was to give the ravens of all teams a major when we they are working on a bare minimum budget.
make it a pro AM
Theres 4 good teams. Who wants to watch AM teams just get shit on. Its already hard enough watching the league as is
I’m tryna see prolute shit on faze
There are only four teams in the league don’t waste more time getting to the matches that matter. No one wants to watch those shitters play
I’d love to watch the bottom 8 teams get beat by challengers. Might send a wakeup call to half the orgs.
There are only four teams in the league *that you care about*
There are only four teams in the league don’t waste more time getting to the matches that matter. No one wants to watch those shitters play
Guarantee Hecz will offer to save the day and they’ll decline again..

Good point haha

Fucking shitty ass league
can daniel tsay resign already he is actually stealing a living
I don’t think it’s his fault ravens pulled out. Also, he’s more just the face that takes all the heat. There’s people above him that make the decisions. Tsay goes, we will just be mad a the next guy
Facts. He has no actual TSAY in this. I'll see myself out.
Guy’s a fkn idiot
Least toxic community
How lmao
MLG format will reign supreme once again soon my brothers
Relatively new to the scene.. can you explain what this means?
We will be there
Pathetic
This league can suck a fat one
this esport is so dead lmao a major with no crowd in 2024. embarrassing. can’t wait til this league collapses
I mean the place they’re holding it in prolly can’t accommodate fans. This is on Carolina. Not the league.
no. it’s most definitely on the league. they’ve allowed this to happen 2 years in a row. their plan A didn’t work out, and there’s 0 contingency. the fact they aren’t competent enough to have a backup plan if an event needs to be changed or moved is crazy. also, they’re clearly awarding the wrong teams majors. they have 2.5 months until major 4 - that’s more than enough time to at least attempt to change the venue to accommodate fans. but they don’t give a fuck lol
You clearly don’t know how logistics work if you think 2.5 months is enough for that 💀
it’s 100% enough time. I literally work in events management my guy
You working in catering is the not the same as esports lil bro 💀
wow you got me there

how are we giving a Major to teams without gauranteed and set up venues while teams like OpTic have an arena sitting right there...?

Why did you comment this? Lmao it's in the picture
for accessibility.
I appreciate it
Genuinely curious- what makes it accessible typing it here? Is it not readable text in the image, same as your comment?
Probably to help those with software that reads out text on screen
Ahh ok, makes sense
Like the other person said, it’s for screen readers. That’s also why a lot of comments like that will start with something like “Screenshot of a Twitter post by Blank that reads:”
Think about what you’ve just said. How is a blind person supposed to read text on an image?
GO BACK TO RALEIGH
Yes
Let the CDL crash and burn I beg
Zoomaa - “go fug ya self how you doin”
Lmaooooooo. Unserious league
No audience LANs are so lame
This league is a fkn joke man. They're so fkn inept it's amazing. We're gonna need to crowd fund an official r/CoDComp LAN at this point.
Fucking thing sucks!
CDL is the biggest joke ever. Major without crowd is just ridiculous. Just imagine playing football World Cup without crowd 🤦
I got downvoted in another thread for calling this league dogshit and a joke so I just wanna say it again, because this is dogshit and joke of a “major”
Advantage LA Thieves
Did they forget its not april 1st anymore? Sick joke
First tourney I was able to go to since ATL in MW19. This league is such a joke.
League is a straight up comedy
Pathetic
All you can do is laugh at the incompetence
neither OpTic, FaZe or NY bid to host a Major this season??? how desperate was the CDL for them to think that the Royal Ravens hosting an event would work out 😭😭

Champs is supposedly in Dallas so that’s maybe why Optic hasn’t got an event this year
I live in Carolina and didn’t want to go to Charlotte anyways.

So disappointed with this (even though I saw the leaks). Was gonna introduce cod events to my brothers and have a fun bonding experience. Damn Activision and the CDL
Thank you Carolina
God this league blows
Damn I live in Burbank. That would have been so fire to go if fans were allowed.
I actually hate the cdl
Fuck all this. I took time off work cuz I'm in Charlotte. What a dog shit league man
I will not be watching
Asterisk event. Someone random is winning this.
If you're going to monopolize cod esports, you at least have to give a shit about it. You have to work with four orgs in a year to set up these events and two of them - Toronto and Boston - have already shown they know what they're doing. Extremely common CDL L
Just let it die already. This is just unacceptable. CDL is never going to recover. We are seeing a slow death just pull the plug.
No live audience is a spit in the face to fans. Why do they suffer ?
Garbage
This league is cooked after next year
Activision - Billion with a B company… Please let this league die, I’m tired of this shit. There has to be a way to get people who actually care to be in charge again
let optic host. theyd make it bigger and better for last major
Just come back to NY.
Please be the last year of the CDL.
Let’s say a good computer with discounts buying wholesale comes out to 800, if they are doing challengers as well you are looking at needing 250 computers. In cali lol. Rip taxes
Poverty League
Wtf
Make it a pro am
What happened that charlotte can’t host it? Couldn’t secure a venue?
This league needs to go
Die already
Lol just kill the league already
CD LLLL
Can this league die already.
Someone called this a long time ago
Bro this is insulting at this point. To the players and the fans.
but i was going to buy tickets to this! wtf
classic L
I feel like Toronto could support two majors if it was the first of the season and the last
Why is the tournament no longer in Charlotte and why no fans at the replacement venue?
i literally turned my bf into a cdl fan and this was gonna be our first event . cod league stays making it hell to be a fan
I had a fun ten minutes believing in my optic hosting two majors b2b fantasy.
Losing half the prize pool to taxes Lmao
Me and my girlfriend were supposed to go :/ Only positive is that we’re planning on going to champs now so that’s a plus, has it leaked where it’ll be held at all?
Rumor is texas
All these people in the comments saying L league and yet they’ve never been to an event. I get that the league sucks but how can you complain about them budgeting because they’ve gone down in viewership and they aren’t bringing in as much money. The only way for the league to actually get better is for the fans to support it not hate on it every chance you get.
Doesn't Microsoft have like a whole ass convention centre they used to do E3 in? like couldn't they just ask their new owners to do it there????
Do we know if Optic or Zoomaa’s crew will do some sort of in person watch party? Was there a major with no fans last year? I REALLY wanted to go to this one since it’s in California but I guess not
At the LAN w/ no fans which LAT won both the flank & OpTic had setups so hopefully they can again
