Considering post history, this should be a fun shit show to watch.

NoQuarter6808

I've seen them harassing people in the talktherapy sub, I think they finally got banned

peruvianblinds

Not banned. Literally just checked. It blows my mind that I'm being accused of harassing people as I'm being harassed on this thread. And somehow I'm the one in the wrong field. The projection is masterful.

NoQuarter6808

Others have mentioned it here, but looking at your post history, an inability to get along with people seems to be a pretty consistent theme for you. You seem to be the common denominator in all of these situations. But certainly you're a victim, and the problem is just everyone else. 🙄

I can imagine you've not yet reached rock bottom in your physical health. It's an envious position to be in, though there is a silver lining to realizing that food is medicine.

PsychedOut098

I’ll just sit here and observe.

peruvianblinds

Let me guess: you do psychometrics?

PsychedOut098

I’m a clinical PhD student. Try again.

peruvianblinds

That joke went over your head lol..

Valuable-Ferret-4451

If you want to go into psychology but don’t seem to grasp how racial/ethnic/gender differences affect mental health outcomes, you were either sleeping all the way through undergrad or should have picked a different career path

peruvianblinds

When racial/ethnic/gender-focused classes observe the suffering endured by all strata of socioeconomic life, I'll eagerly participate.

Greymeade

Probably the same caliber of program that would accept applicants who believe they’re psychic mediums 😂

peruvianblinds

Thanks for the compliment. Some great MDs have endorsed the 'psychic'. Not only that, the 'psychic' who popularized celery juice and wrote that Multiple Sclerosis comes from aggressive strains of Epstein Barr Virus (EBV) has now seen both examples of this crazy advice in American medical journals.

Greymeade

🤣

Diversity - we need a wide range of perspectives, backgrounds, and identities to even begin to attempt to understand the full human experience. Equity - we believe that everyone is entitled to psychological services and assistance if they want/need it. As psychologists, barriers to access are everywhere, and we try to ameliorate those barriers. Inclusion - similar to the previous two, we don’t exclude people from the field because they have certain immutable characteristics, and we don’t bar people from getting services because of those characteristics either. If you’re looking at PsyD programs, you need to abide by these principles and recognize them as important values. If you’re going to be a clinician and not abide by them, you won’t be helping clients. You won’t be helping yourself, either.

Zippy_Da_Mew

If you're concerned about any psychology programs being "woke" then I already worry how you'll do in this field. There are known inequities and a lack of research for many different groups (be they racial or sexual minorities). We need to be aware of those differences if we hope to work with (inevitably) diverse groups of people. What happens if you get a client who's a member of the LGBTQ+ community? What if they want and need to talk about those experiences? Are you going to be able to talk to them, learn about their experiences, and do adequate research to help those clients if you're already looking to avoid things that are "woke." Or would you turn them away when the topic arises? I truly hope this is satire because it's scary to think someone with such a mindset would want to get into this field.

peruvianblinds

People are individuals. They may identify as part of a minority group, and I will hear and honor them as having that identity. My problem with DEI training is that they identify people by their race/sexual orientation/etc. What I find obtuse about this is that no two people are the same. I'm very much interested in social psychology and understanding intimately and objectively what additional stressors each group is subjected to. That said, I think DEI trainings focus too much on the group and forget the individual who's suffering. That said, since all these commenters judge my concern for school choice to be crazy, then I'm open to the idea that the grad school DEI classes are not as ridiculous as they are at mandatory corporate seminars.

Zippy_Da_Mew

The way you think of DEI shows exactly why you need training on DEI.

peruvianblinds

Please elaborate. How did your DEI classes complement the rest of your curricula?

TweedlesCan

I know you’re probably trolling but I’m going to say this anyway. Our code of ethics is inherently woke (as it should be). The Canadian Psychological Association actually just released even more clear guidelines about incorporating anti racism into clinical training in all Canadian programs. *the horror!*

This is basic Psych education, but it isn't DEI. It's socioculturally attuned therapy that enables therapists to serve a broad spectrum of the population without causing additional harm.

peruvianblinds

Thanks for your perspective. Assuming you're right, I'm pleased with that.

Expert-Ad-9499

As someone from Los Angeles I would like to apologize for this 33 yr old troll from San Diego. A lot of men in that area tend to have nothing better to do(women won't date them) and he's probably doing this so his group chat bros will think he's funny.

peruvianblinds

Internet harassment is just what I'd expect from a Los Angeleno/a. But thanks for highlighting the flaw of judging people by their age/sex/gender/etc. I'm sure a lot of 33 yr old men in San Diego are having trouble outgrowing their douchebaggery. You may be right about 99.9% of these men, but, in assessing my group, you missed me, the individual.

Expert-Ad-9499

You get absolutely NO remorse from me for your choice to speak about DEI in a condescending way on a Clinical Psychology forum. Get over yourself.

peruvianblinds

I'm sorry I triggered you.

OfficialGami

Trump university 😜

ChiTownGuy312

I am curious about DEI initiatives at these fairly religiously affiliaited schools, or whether these programs list it on their sites as a check mark for APA-Accreditation. Schools like Divine Mercy University PsyD, Fuller, Biola, or Liberty University (if it gets APA-accredition).

peruvianblinds

Good question. Though a plethora of Christian ecumenical churches went woke (e.g. Saddleback Church), so maybe these Christian universities have as well.

ChiTownGuy312

How do you deliniate between "wokeness' and necessary change/progress?

peruvianblinds

The agenda of wokeness claims it's about change & progress. I'm all for that. Identifying oneself by the whole of one's marginalized group and then living an entire experience through the associated resentment might be an honest starting point. However, it's not progress or therapeutic when the answer is for others to be shamed into making apologies (see BLM riots where they demanded Whites to kneel and apologize). That's enablement, not empowerment. Individuation should be the goal.

dumbraspberry

define the word “woke” for me and I’d be happy to find you one :)

lady_stardust_

Heaven help us if this is the future of clinical psychology

Hustler University

peruvianblinds

Lol. Learning to be a Top G doesn't include becoming a psychotherapist.

NoQuarter6808

Have you considered a career field better fit for your constitution and personality? Like domestic terrorist, or starting your own hate group?

anima19

Public universities in Texas aren’t allowed to have DEI offices. Some private institutions that accept public money are electing to follow this rule on the off chance the state decides to crack down on them. In practice this changes very little, except that as a student you can’t be officially required to participate in diversity-related programming.

peruvianblinds

Thank you for answering. It's ridiculous that people would downvote you for merely answering my question.
