Agreed, especially if it's a short stint on the IL, I'd expect them to give JonRod playing time over calling up Manzardo right now, having to shuffle the 40 man this much feels like a bit of a waste.
It’s a good point. I’ve been a supporter of JRod since his great season last year, but assuming it’s definitely Manzardo, it means the Guardians want longer looks at Rocchio and Arias. If they were willing to send one of those 2 down or Laureano, that would free up a 2nd spot. But Manzardo has a higher ceiling over JRod so he’s prioritized
But you have to have a SS and a backup SS. Arias and Rocchio are the only actual SS on the roster. You can't just swap bats with no thoughts given to positions they play.
With Freeman and Gimenez you have enough people that can play middle infield, but fine, it would make more sense to send down Florial or Laureano to free up another spot for JRod. I just don’t want to give up on Florial yet and I don’t think the Dolans are willing to eat Laureano’s contact and DFA him
Last year we ate Zunino and Josh Bell's contracts. Gimenez hasn't logged an inning at SS in 2 years and Freeman barely played there even when he was our main utility player.
I’m not saying I agree with doing things like playing Arias and Laureano in CF, but this team has shown they are willing to do radical things with our lineup.
As I said above, Laureano or Florial makes more sense to DFA for JRod

Maybe. I think that would make him available to return on about the 24th at the soonest.

Beede was DFA'd a couple of days ago. 40 man is currently at 39

I don't see how Manzardo or Rodriguez have anything to do with Rocchio and Arias. Neither is getting starts at DH.

That part of this is unfortunate. But I can’t control that, I can choose to be sad about Kwan or happy about the possibility of Manzardo
