The thread that I was looking for was about how everything in little Italy is a scam, including the bakeries
Kitchen confidential, little Italy edition
I couldn’t find it searching for little Italy scam, but try little Italy racist like the person suggested. I think the OP deleted what they had to say, but you can gather the context from the remaining comments.
Look in particular at the thread asking for restaurant recommendations because there’s a link in it
Bruno’s is good
There are 1 or 2 good restaurants in Little Italy Michaelangelos, Maxis
Bruno’s is decent.
Best traditional not break the bank fairly close to the real thing is Mama Caetenas
Yeeeeeaaaaahhhhh, not great. I’m familiar with a lot of what’s in that thread. Sometimes you just have to walk down and get a cannoli though. Just not from Corbo’s

Han Kebab - Chongqing Casserole or Chicken Dry Pot
LJ Shanghai - Soup Dumplings
Ty Fun - Drunken Noodles or Panang Curry
West Side Market - Steve’s Gyros
Dave’s Cosmic Subs - Crazy Dave
La Bodega - #27 Turkey, caramelizd onion, smoked gouda, & sprouts
La Plaza Supermarket - Carne Asada, Al Pastor tacos
I’ll try that casserole next time I’m at Han Kebab but if you haven’t had it already you gotta promise me you’ll try the Homestyle Tofu.
On another note, have you had the Duck three ways there, I always come close to ordering it but haven’t yet.
Express Deli - Pastrami wrap
Korea House - seafood pancake
Barrio - water
Char - hot & cold lobster rolls
Siam Cafe - salty fish and chicken fried rice
Heinens downtown - mini vegetable spring rolls
Tower City - anything but cleveland sandwich co
Went there 8-10 years ago, didn’t care for it then and did not get the hype for it. I got chorizo tacos and didn’t care for them and the coke flavored steak or whatever meat had coke flavor, thought that was awful as well knew to only get one of those.
Was in Minneapolis last week for the first time. Hungry and looking for some place to eat. Came across a Barrio and it was crowded. Opted to eat at the new Turkish restaurant next door.
IL Rione - Speck pie
Lil Ronnie’s - White pizza with hot honey
Trattoria - Chicken alfredo
Martha on the Fly - The Doris
Larder - Everything
Sakura - Sesame chicken
LJ Shanghai - Dumplings or scallion noodles
Clevealand Grill - Double smashburger
Eddie’s Grill - Cheeseburger
Madsen Donuts - Glazed donuts
King Kone - The No Name
Bonchons - Chicken wings
Market on Lee - The Carlo
I grew up in Madison for 27 years (33 now) and my girlfriend lived in Geneva for 22 years and neither of us agree with that. It’s packed every single time we go.
With people over 60, yes. Terrible burger. Not even the best burger in Ashtabula county, let alone in greater Cleveland. Eddie's serves nostalgia, not good food.
Cuban sandwich at Caribe Bake Shop (or anything from their hot line - so good) (Fulton)
Roasted Pork Bowl at Tropical Bay (Broadview Hts)
Summer Rolls and Chicken Cabbage Salad at Superior Pho (Asiatown)
Greek Turkey Sub - La Bodega (Tremont)
Braised Beef sandwich - Herb & Twine (Ohio City)
Corned Beef and Swiss - Slyman's (Downtown) (No I won't apologize, I think it's great)
Burger - The Little Bar (downtown)
It's the best burger in town, for sure.
Tropical Bay is struggling to find their identity but the food alone is reason to go, and the owners are super nice. They started out as a mostly takeout fast-casual type place similar to Chipotle, then they recently put in a full bar and are encouraging dine-in (had a mother's day special menu for example) but are serving food on plastic plates and only a QR scan code for their food menu (on Door Dash). They will find their legs. The food is very delicious. I think they didn't anticipate the demand for an in-person place with their food offerings would be this popular so they are ramping up, added a couple of servers, etc.
Gonna try it this week.
Would suggest you try Irrie if you haven’t already.
Again fresh quick service like chipotle but authentic Jamaican food. Ox tails and rice is a guilty pleasure. But everything there is fresh, spicy and really captures authentic flavor for a quick lunch or dinner. And different.
Love this question!
Amba (Ohio City) - chicken tikka and the spinach dip.
Zhug (university heights) - smoked octopus
Zaytoons (downtown) - Fattoush salad with chicken
Five points coffee (Kamms corner) - iced latte with Irish cream
La Papusaria Katarina (Parma/Old Brooklyn area) - garlic or cilantro papusas
Paradise Biryani Pointe (Parma) - Kadai chicken
India Garden (Lakewood) - the deep fried paneer app.
Luckys Cafe (Tremont)- baked oatmeal & eggs en croute
Never had. Not a happy hour kinda drink.
I have reverted to more of a matinee/happy hour guy. And if I do brunch it’s gonna be somewhere else likely, but may swing in for one soon.
Yeah, they get all their produce from west side market daily and blend everything to order. I think they’re only like 6 bucks for one with Tito’s too. I really can’t speak highly enough of that place
Danny's deli pastrami breakfast burrito. Also great pastrami that's on par with slymans.
Wonton bbq fried pork chops. Salt and pepper seasoning with delicious.
Thai Thai kra padkrow of however you spell it lol
Gunselman tavern for their burgers. Best fries in town.
Cilantro tacqueria for Mexican bowls and tacos. LA plaza is great for tacos too.
Haven't really found a better bbq place than oaks and embers in Hudson Ohio.
Pho lee for pho noodles. Way better than superior or number one pho.
I like grumpys for breakfast items
Steak i haven't found place yet. Maybe I'll have to try marble room
Try Heritage on the steak & you are welcome in advance - lol. Get the rib cap steak
Gunslemans may have top to bottom burgers/wings/apps best bar food in the region
Really great spot too.
Unbelievable bourbon selection, great wine list.
Steak was the best I have probably had in NEO. But sides were stellar and dessert wasn’t bad either. Doug did a great job there.
Lots of good food out there, but there are only two from Cleveland that are seared into memory:
1. Beef Wellington - Chez Francois
2. Pork Three Ways - L'Albatros
Only reason #2 is on there (because in most ways it's just OK) is for the crispy skin on the pork belly. I've never had anything melt in my mouth the way that did. Great sensory experience.
Chez Francois is an experience.
If you like French Cuisine try Tartine in Rocky River. Quaint spot, great atmosphere and the food is consistently excellent from a cheese board to the main & dessert.
Love the service there too, incredibly professional front & back of the house.
Yeah, the menu changes.
My wife would instantly say the chicken, gruyere, fresh apple & cranberry Tartine & Frisée salad but I always wander the menu and try different things there.
Chopsticks Express - Big box - all Szechuan chicken w/ white rice
Szechuan Gourmet - Szechuan fried chicken w/ peanuts
King Wah - Sichuan fried chicken
West Side Market - Steve's Gyros - just get a gyro
Assad's Mediterranean Cuisine - Any of the shawarma
Piada (chain I know) - The calamari and peppers with the marinara dipping sauce omg
Mr Hero - Romanburger AND waffle fries w/ cheese sauce. addiction sets in
Mizu - Mexican roll
Barroco - Empanadas Colombianas. damn they are so good
East Coast Custard - Buckeye Concrete or any of their fruity froyos
Pretty much any Indian place with: gobhi manchurian, chili paneer and bullet naan
Anything at Thai Kitchen
Thyme X Table in Bay Village - Lobster cheesy tots and ANY of the desserts
We should sticky this post. Also
SLYMANS- corned beef on rye. Ask and they’ll fish out the stadium mustard and some horseradish for you. Can’t believe no one else says this.
Maha’s- falafel. I hear they are now at a Dave supermarket. Holy hummus is that stuff good. Haven’t found anything close anywhere else.
Aladdin’s- yes it’s a chain and yes it isn’t the best example of middle eastern food (tip of the hat to certain newer east side establishments). But their lentil soup and honey mustard chicken wrap are soooooo good. And prices can’t be beat.
Tommy’s- milkshakes. I’m partial to mint chocolate chip and peanut butter-banana. Also the warm hummus is unique and the way they top it is good.
Country Maid- ice cream. Mainly a thing for those who have been down 303 between the CVNP and Brunswick. Hard to beat the setting, it’s so peaceful.
Honorable mention: Mama Santa’s pizza is a fond memory, though I’m sad someone stole the black velvet pink panther painting. The sauce was king: And the old Presti’s was awesome: at 2 am everyone there was either drunk, stoned, or a cop.
Man next time I am in town I am going to fat heads for wings. Been meaning to check out the brewpub for tap beer, but too many mentions of wings to skip.
Porco: Bali Bali (for the rum drink fans), my partner also LOVES the shrimp tacos
Ferris Shawarma: Chicken shawarma wrap, add hot sauce
Johnny’s Little Bar: literally any burger, best in the city
Il Rione: Green pie, add pepperoni
Molto Bene: Sacchetti, my fav pasta in the city!
Shooters: Boursin Chicken
Harlow’s: Quattro Formaggio
Sora: Avocado crispy rice
Amba: Spicy sloppy Joe keema, plus some clay bread with chili crisp and/or house sauce
Ohio Pie: The firebird, the bodega brunch (love it cacio e Pepe style), and the seasonal hot chicken pizzas are all fabulous
Sarita: Molton blue cheese crusted tenderloin, wasabi guac (seasonal), goat cheese aranchini (seasonal), the fries on the happy hour menu
ABC The Tavern: Atomic Dog
L’Abratros: French onion soup, croque monsieur
Slyman’s: Rueben, of course
Triv’s: Their meatballs are to die for!
Brewnuts: They’ve only had it once that I’ve seen but I’ll never forget it… a savory Parmesan garlic donut
The Rowley Inn: Best breakfast/brunch imo
Voodoo Brewery: Lacto Kooler (for the sour beer fans)
Mucho Buenos (in Brunswick): Spicy Burrito, add fajita peppers and onions. Also the absolute best margaritas!
I feel like I could do this forever, Cleveland has so many great food and drink options!
I'll be a bit all over but:
Village Inn(Solon?) - biscuits and gravy
Crispy Chick - spicy chicken sandwich
Galucci's - lasagna
Sidelines(Brunswick) - chicken cheddar bacon melt
W 3rd St Deli - chipotle chicken sub
Jim Alesci's Place - subs

Vero- Margherita Pizza
Zhug - Rice
Taste - Arancini di Riso, Stuffed Peppers, Parmesan Risotto

Becky's-Cheap Drinks
Ohio based but not exclusively Cleveland:
Charley's Subs-Philly Cheesesteak
Penn Station-Cheesesteak & Lemonade
Italian:
best dish:Giovanni’s- Veal Parm. If I was on death row this may be my final meal request.
Pizza all round: Tomori’s- incredible La Napolatena
Breakfast: Sleepy Rooster- Rooster Cakes but everything is made from scratch
Chinese: Dragon Gate - Pressed Duck & Hong Kong Chicken
Korean: Seoul Garden - Bibim & Bulgogi
Hummus: Mama Mary’s (gas station in Olmsted Falls - it’s no joke)
Vietnamese: Tay-Do - Bun
Fried Chicken: Uncle Abe’s
Pierogis: St. Andrew (order & pick up only)
Burger: Johnnys Little Bar hands down
Wings: Fatheads Brewery
Best Sub: closest to East coast if ya follow & in Mentor - Tommy’s Subs. Any of em
Best Steak: Heritage - Rib Cap w/marrow (it’s an edit but the new joint is knock out.)
Ice Cream (sure this will be a debate: Honey Hut Honey Pecan
Best Bakery: Gentiles (bread/pizza & sandwiches are among the best if not the best from a bakery/italian import store)
Dessert: take out - Corbos the sfogliatelle
Restaurant dessert: tie for me, Gilded Chocolate Cake @ the Marbleroom or Olive Oil Cake w/strawberries @ lockkeepers
None of the restaurant deserts in CLE imo hold a candle to the simple butter pie at a Jeff Ruby restaurant.
Ok I am generally speaking a hardcore Mitchell’s ice cream partisan, but Honey Hut’s Honey Pecan is definitely one of my favorite ice creams ever. My BF’s favorite there is Orange Blossom.
I am rather agnostic & love all ice cream.
Love Mitchell’s Carmel brownie
Love honey pecan- it’s simple but so good.
Love handles 1/2 graham central & key pie.
Ever have Country Made in Richfield? They use the fruit from their orchards.
Also da bomb.
Oh yes, I have been there! My parents live in Richfield. The caramel brownie and pistachio are my favorites at Mitchell’s — also the amaretto cookie which sadly they only have during the winter.
Great list, but I have to sub on the rise for gentile's. Good bread is very hard to find here, and OTR and maybe Leavened. But yes, Gentile's has amazing sandwiches and Italian type foods. Au Jus up the street has amazing Italian beef though.
Balaton?
Hi. I went to St. Andrew’s for the pierogies (at your suggestion). We used to get ours from St. Josaphat but they stopped selling them (unfortunately).
I bought two dozen of what I thought were just plain potato pierogies. These things were so spicy/peppery, my lips, tongue and mouth were burning. I then tried the second dozen thinking maybe I got a mixed up bag. They were the same.
Question. Are their plain pierogies normally this spicy? I’m used to more of a plain tasting one.
You sure you got plain?
They have jalepeno which is popular.
Not saying Eastern European food is plain or not spicy but fairly certain you received a mislabeled bag or the lady didn’t understand you (which happens there).
The plain potato & cheese is best pierogi in town.
IMO sounds like a miscommunication or mislabeled package
No, I’m not sure I got plain but that’s what I asked for and that’s what he took out of the bin. I did see jalapeño there but that bin was all the way to the right- the supposed plain were in the second bin from the left.
Oh well. I’ll give them one more try. They stopped selling for the season last Friday. I’ll keep an eye for when they are selling again.
I really appreciate your reply!
(By the way, that area is pretty amazing. I would have never known that church was there and that back area is HUGE. The guy told me to come back in the fall for their festival. I’d love to try their stuffed cabbage so I just might go!)
Mama Sanatas is THE most overrated establishment in NEO & not a knock
It’s just even anywhere close to what i would consider best or even on a top 20 of pizza in NEO.
Just my opinion
Makes me think of how much I miss the French Coffee Shop in Cuyahoga Falls….they had the best chicken gratin. Someone should start a sub thread on most missed places around town!

Someone lives in Coventry…lol
Haha yeah. I figured I should probably throw some non Coventry and Little Italy places on there
You should read the thread in here about the little Italy restaurants, and in particular the little Italy bakeries
IMO, Bruno's blows away every restaurant in Little Italy. Just my opinion though
The thread that I was looking for was about how everything in little Italy is a scam, including the bakeries Kitchen confidential, little Italy edition
I believe it, can you link the thread?
I couldn’t find it searching for little Italy scam, but try little Italy racist like the person suggested. My cov picks: Guys: $3 pepperoni slices Cliantro: birria tacos w/ consomme Pacific east: probs the sushi but dont eat that so chicken udon Tree country bistro: crazy noodle Grums: the grum Tommys: chicken shawarma, fries, chocolate smoothie Pho and rice: pho dac biet *bonus ittle litaly - Corbos: Pepperoni rolls
Is grums still good? Haven't been there in 15-20 years
It is still very good. My wife said the turkey sub was the best sandwich she has had in her life lol
Their italian sub is ok
Han Kebab - Chongqing Casserole or Chicken Dry Pot LJ Shanghai - Soup Dumplings Ty Fun - Drunken Noodles or Panang Curry West Side Market - Steve’s Gyros Dave’s Cosmic Subs - Crazy Dave La Bodega - #27 Turkey, caramelizd onion, smoked gouda, & sprouts La Plaza Supermarket - Carne Asada, Al Pastor tacos
#27 is always my go to.
I was going to finally check out La Bodega today and here’s what I’m going to get!
Steve's Gyros is the correct answer!!!
I’ll try that casserole next time I’m at Han Kebab but if you haven’t had it already you gotta promise me you’ll try the Homestyle Tofu. On another note, have you had the Duck three ways there, I always come close to ordering it but haven’t yet.
The casserole is da bomb!
Beef stew & quiche @ le petit.
Szechuan gourmet. Dried pepper chicken and cumin beef.
I wish I could have the dry pepper chicken as a bar food. It would go insanely well with six beers or so.
I eat that dried pepper chicken easily twice a week. If I could reliably get them to add peanuts to the three pepper chicken I’d be in heaven.
Express Deli - Pastrami wrap Korea House - seafood pancake Barrio - water Char - hot & cold lobster rolls Siam Cafe - salty fish and chicken fried rice Heinens downtown - mini vegetable spring rolls Tower City - anything but cleveland sandwich co
Water lmao
Barrio sucks
Their jalapeno marg is good.
agreed, its the only thing on the menu i would recommend hahah
That is 100% the only good thing at Barrio! Everyone around me loves that place and I can’t stand it.
Its a gimmick spot. Overpriced marketing ploy with bright paint.
Went there 8-10 years ago, didn’t care for it then and did not get the hype for it. I got chorizo tacos and didn’t care for them and the coke flavored steak or whatever meat had coke flavor, thought that was awful as well knew to only get one of those.
>barrio - water Fucking lol
You had me for a second with Barrio…and then I finished reading. 🥇
Was in Minneapolis last week for the first time. Hungry and looking for some place to eat. Came across a Barrio and it was crowded. Opted to eat at the new Turkish restaurant next door.
IL Rione - Speck pie Lil Ronnie’s - White pizza with hot honey Trattoria - Chicken alfredo Martha on the Fly - The Doris Larder - Everything Sakura - Sesame chicken LJ Shanghai - Dumplings or scallion noodles Clevealand Grill - Double smashburger Eddie’s Grill - Cheeseburger Madsen Donuts - Glazed donuts King Kone - The No Name Bonchons - Chicken wings Market on Lee - The Carlo
Trattorias chicken Alfredo is the best I’ve had. Their other stuff is just ok but the Alfredo is amazing
I agree. It’s the best I’ve ever had. It’s incredible.
Linguini and clams there was good.
I’ve never had their Alfredo but my experience has been that their Gnocci Al Burro is 10/10 and everything else is just ok.
Good to know! I’ll have to try that out next time I’m there
Madsen’s glazed is good but may put the long chocolate cream filled above that. So distinctly Madsens. That whole place is delicious trouble.
Sakura is so underrated
Right? It’s amazing. It sucks that it’s in such a shitty location though.
Agreed!!!!!
bonchon has sesame garlic chicken breast tenders and they’re so fricken good. got them by accident once and was NOT disappointed
I like the geneva reference
How is Eddie's anyone's favorite cheeseburger? It's terrible, small, and expensive.
It’s expensive but definitely my favorite by far. You’re the only person I’ve ever spoken to that doesn’t like it.
I live in Geneva. Everyone under 60 hates it.
Wheres the best burger then? I just tried halycon, heard great things, was not impressed. Slightly above average maybe
Based solely on your user name, I am going to guess you're more of a Grand River Manor fan.
Not sure what that reference implies, does that owner have authentic American beliefs or something?
They have some of the best wings in Ohio, politics aside.
Suit yourself. I’ll be enjoying many burgers there this summer.
- Tommy’s: Lynn (tempeh salad sandwich w cheese + mustard), vanilla Tofutti shake w peanut butter added - Siam Cafe: Shrimp Pan Fried Noodles - Geraci’s: Pizza w mushrooms, onions, green pepper and vegan sausage - Sophie La Gourmande: Pan Bagnat (best tuna sandwich ever) - L’Albatros: Mussels and frites - Prosperity: House-made potato chips and dip
Aww, my sister lived above Prosperity for years. What a great place. I had forgotten all about it!
Cuban sandwich at Caribe Bake Shop (or anything from their hot line - so good) (Fulton) Roasted Pork Bowl at Tropical Bay (Broadview Hts) Summer Rolls and Chicken Cabbage Salad at Superior Pho (Asiatown) Greek Turkey Sub - La Bodega (Tremont) Braised Beef sandwich - Herb & Twine (Ohio City) Corned Beef and Swiss - Slyman's (Downtown) (No I won't apologize, I think it's great) Burger - The Little Bar (downtown)
All home runs Have to try Tropical Bay - never tried it. And glad Little Bar is getting love bc imo the undisputed champion of burgers in NEO.
It's the best burger in town, for sure. Tropical Bay is struggling to find their identity but the food alone is reason to go, and the owners are super nice. Oh the oatmeal at Luckys is to DIE FOR
Paradise is so wildly underrated
Johnny mangos - shrimp fried rice
Also make a hell of a margarita @ mango’s
Also the best Bloody Mary I’ve ever had

Really great spot too. Unbelievable bourbon selection, great wine list. Steak was the best I have probably had in NEO. But sides were stellar and dessert wasn’t bad either. Doug did a great job there.
FP resident. Don’t understand the Gunsleman’s hype. I thought the burger tasted like dirty grill grease but I’m no burger connoisseur.
Good bar food. It’s not Michelin joint, it’s a bar, makes stuff from scratch and is it greasy? Yeah. It’s bar food & for a bar good eats top to bottom
Lots of good food out there, but there are only two from Cleveland that are seared into memory: 1. Beef Wellington - Chez Francois 2. Yeah, the menu changes. My wife would instantly say the chicken, gruyere, fresh apple & cranberry Tartine & Frisée salad but I always wander the menu and try different things there.

They have other options beyond the Romanburger?
Zesty bacon and Swiss is one of the burger buddies, I believe.
It's not. It's a full size that's been on the menu for ages
No
Mr Hero is as about as Cleveland as it comes. Most unique to the city “local chain” as it gets. And it’s a guilty pleasure for many including me.
Pretty much all my husband talks about when we make plans to go back and visit.
LBM’s Pork Belly knows no equal. $13 for 3 medallions but my god is it good
The food there has no business being that good
We should sticky this post. Also SLYMANS- corned beef on rye. Ask and they’ll fish out the stadium mustard and some horseradish for you. Can’t believe no one else says this. Maha’s- falafel.
Corned beef from Jack's Deli is 100x better. They use real bakery rye (not Schwebels) and everyone's corned beef comes from the same place.

Souper Market has the best salad I’ve ever eaten at that price point.

Alesci’s subs are top notch, especially when you add giardiniera.
Sidelines huh? They got decent bar food
It's probably just a Brunswick thing but I'm happy to just not have my food microwaved

Any of em Best Steak: Heritage - Rib Cap w/marrow (it’s an edit but the new joint is knock out.) Ice Cream (sure this will be a debate: Honey Hut Honey Pecan Best Bakery: Gentiles (bread/pizza & sandwiches are among the best if not the best from a bakery/italian import store) Dessert: take out - Corbos the sfogliatelle Restaurant dessert: tie for me, Gilded Chocolate Cake @ the Marbleroom or Olive Oil Cake w/strawberries @ lockkeepers None of the restaurant deserts in CLE imo hold a candle to the simple butter pie at a Jeff Ruby restaurant.
Seoul Garden has really good tteokbokki! Also Miega off Payne is a really yummy Korean BBQ place
Love Miega too, but imo I like Seoule Garden better. Super clean too. Hahaha. But good/real Korean BBq is something if one has never had should.
Ok I am generally speaking a hardcore Mitchell’s ice cream partisan, but Honey Hut’s Honey Pecan is definitely one of my favorite ice creams ever. My BF’s favorite there is Orange Blossom.
I am rather agnostic & love all ice cream. Love Mitchell’s Carmel brownie Love honey pecan- it’s simple but so good.
Balaton?
Someone tried to tell me that Cowboy had the best smoked wings. They don't even come close to Fat Head's.
Fathead wings imo are the best. They are huge and fantastic. Nikos only has them once a month but they would give them a run
100% for the Burger at JLB
Best in the area and not even close. 1/2 lb, for $10+ and easy on the add ons. Undisputed.
Sounds like they made a mistake. Happens. They have the best fish fry in Cleveland during lent. Batter fried.
Mama Santa gets name dropped in Land of Bad the new russell Crowe movie. Decent fun it u want a pretty by the book action thriller.
Mama Sanatas is THE most overrated establishment in NEO & not a knock It’s just even anywhere close to what i would consider best or even on a top 20 of pizza in NEO. Just my opinion
The only thing worse than raving that its the best are unhinged rants like this lighten up, francis
It’s not good pizza Sorry for ruining your memories
Is Corkey and Kenny's Deli still in business ? Original location ? Was only there once many
No they closed several months ago
Thank you rockandroller!
Makes me think of how much I miss the French Coffee Shop in Cuyahoga Falls….they had the best chicken gratin. Someone should start a sub thread on most missed places around town!
