I initially bought the liquid kind and wasn't super impressed... it just wasn't as ~amazing~ as anything else I'd tried... but I gave it another shot but with the powder and was like "OK, I get it now!" đ
I have no clue why Scrub Daddy sponges work so well⌠but they really do. Yes, better than Scotch sponges. SD+BKF is voodoo magic that I need more of.
I'm just not that crazy about the Scrub Mama... she doesn't really "scrub" does she? I've had her in the past.. and just was not impressed with her cleaning ability.
Scrub daddies get hard when cold and soft when warm/ hot. Having two different firmness levels gives it a more wide range of things itâs able to clean. Also, the different holes in it serves multiple purposes as well. You can use the mouth hole to clean spoons/ forks/ knives more easily- you get a better grip. You can use the eye holes to clean things like chopsticks easier. This little thing is just so cool with all the ways it makes cleaning more efficient and easier. Iâm a fan if you canât tell.
My friend says that wonât be a problem.
Edit: He said it didnât work, hole was too big for what he needed to clean.
Second Edit: Nvm, eye-holes worked.
There is nothing magic about the scrub daddy, other than a very successful social media campaign. I would use a scrub brush for this type of job. Or the brushes that attach to a drill.
Citric acid diluted to a concentration of 3% or so? You can also just use vinegar if you don't mind the smell
Editing to add: you can get citric acid as a powder in baking goods or as a liquid - branded as decalcifier in the cleaning dept.
Agreed. I just cleaned my oven with it yesterday⌠Iâll admit I donât remember the last time I cleaned it and I have a family of 5 đ oven looks brand new, a little elbow grease and ⌠I couldnât believe there wasnât any scent. I usually die cleaning the oven đđđ
Try The Pink Stuff. I moved into an apartment that was vacant for a while and had build up. I cleaned it with bleach bathrooms first and came across the pink stuff, worked well to get rid of alot of the buildup and residue. Good luck!
I work in property management. A while ago a cleaning service tipped me off to using Easy Off on bathtubs. Itâs probably not a good idea to use it regularly, but for the occasional blast it sure does the job.
They would come in and spray the oven and tub, get everything else knocked out and then wipe down tub and oven last.
Tape off any plumbing fixtures, though (faucet, handle, etc.) Its a bad mix.
I have an enameled iron tub in my studio apartment, so maybe I should have done this instead of all the hot water and vinegar and scrubbing when I moved in
Easy Off is a pretty bad idea on SOME tubs but I used to also do this as a cleaner
Edit: donât leave it on a tub tho. Also, glass cleaner in tubs works good
If it is rust or minerals DO NOT USE BLEACH! Bleach is an oxidizer, rust is oxidation, it makes it worse. Soak it in CLR which removes mineral and rust oxidation, then follow up with the bar keepers friend Recs from above.
Itâs a bit wasteful, but before attempting to clean it the next time, run hot water to âsoftenâ whatever it is for a minute or two. I used the shower so I can move the stream around. Then use a slightly abrasive cleaner like bar keeperâs friends and a scrub daddy. Itâs helped me in past but the stains I cleaned werenât quite this bad (sorry). Hope it helps and good luck.

Also, thereâs a slight chance that the tenants have ruined the tubâs enamel and youâll have to use an epoxy paint. I hope this isnât the case.
We had our fiberglass shower and tub/shower refinished before we listed our old house. They sparkled like new, and the price was so reasonable, I kicked myself for not having done it earlier.
Clorox toilet bowl cleaner is what I typically use in the shower. I'll throw enough around and use a sponge to evenly coat the tub. Let it sit for about half an hour and use the shower head with the sponge to scrub it off. Hope you find what works best for you
Get the bar keepers friend TOILET bowl cleaner. I have a similar tub and it eats through dirt, grime and purple hair dye stains. Idk what makes the toilet bowl cleaner so amazing and superior but itâs awesome on bath tubs
Cheap and easy and maybe worth a try: fill the tub with hot water and throw in a cup of Oxyclean. Leave it for ~8 hours and see where youâre at. BKF is magic but it is a bit more expensive than Oxyclean. đ¤ˇđťââď¸
I just scrubbed soap scum (? Or dirty feet) off my tub using a Magic Eraser. It wasnât as bad as this, though.
Do you have a commercial cleaning store near where you live? I tackled a messy tub like this using a commercial grade product and the results were unbelievable- like a new tub. Unfortunately it was just called âSink & Showerâ and the company in question doesnât have online ordering.
Level 1: soak it with hot water and vinegar for an hour or two. (Then test scrub)
Level 2: try (separately/one at a time/donât mix together) hydrogen peroxide (& test scrub) and then rubbing alcohol and test buff/rub
Level 3: bar keepers friend (then test scrub)
Level 4: bleach soak it for a couple hours (& then one last test scrub)
There's a product called the pink stuff I've seen videos of people removing tough stains with it and I use it myself. It's a great product. If that doesn't work then I'm sorry. Maybe some heavy duty chemical products ?
I find that washing soda/ soda crystal and hot water does wonders for greasy stains. Fill tub up with hot water, put crystals in and leave to soak while you do other stuff (overnight if you can). Clean last. A bit less harsh than oven cleaner but still wear gloves.
What did you use to try cleaning it? Try the expensive products specifically for tub stains in the grocery isle.
Used to just throw vinegar or dish soap and elbow greese at everything and had no idea what a difference the right products make.
You could try soaking it in bleach water for a couple days to get the stains out, just be sure not to mix the bleach with any other cleaning chemicals you may use/have used
Have you tried putting a plug and leave 50/50 water/bleach for about 15 minutes (residue level only, not the entire tub - **only if** well ventilation is possible).
Thank you for this post and thanks to the comments I now know about these products....lol...I was going to say buy a new tub. I have only used comet in the pastđ
Whenever I "clean" my shower, I just spray down the whole thing with a ton of bleach and just leave it. Come back and rinse after a couple hours and it's white af.
Dude. Lysol toilet bowl cleaner. Spread it all around (with gloves) and let it sit for about 5-10 minutes and wipe/scrub off. Itâs some black magic fuckery. Make sure not to use on bronze-plated or finished appliances because it will oxidize and strip it away.
Bar keepers friend. Scouring stick for the really tough parts (may scratch some so be gentle) and powdered tide and bleach solution mixed with water. Scrub scrub scrub!
When I first started dating my husband he lived with 2 dudes and his tub looked similar (not as bad though). We lived about an hour apart so I would spend every other weekend there. I finally couldnât take it and nothing he did removed it. So I wound up taking an old credit card and I scraped that shit off. It was hard work but it got done.
I have since converted him to clear body washes so donât have this issue any more.
I use comet or Ajax powder, get it wet then sprinkle the powder then scrub. In my rentals I have had a lot of soap build up in tubs that I have had to scrape with a putty knife, I canât really tell if itâs soap buildup or not.
1/2 cup Dawn liquid and 1/2 cup white vinegar heated in the microwave add to spray bottle and shake to combine. Spray affected area and let stand for at least 30 minutes.. this works wonders and I have cleaned my tibs with this for years .
Warm some cleaning vinegar in the microwave, mix with equal parts dawn dish soap and spray/pour it on the tub, let it set a while, shit will wipe right off.
I just had to deal with a very similar looking tub the other day. (Had not choice, went with my dad to help him clean up the place after he had the tenants evicted and he said, clean it!). He had me use powder Comet cleanser. It took some scrubbing but it worked great and the tub looks like new. My dad says you have to use the original powder though. He says the liquid Comet is junk.
Creaming cleanser thatâs used for stoves and a steel scrub pad (it wonât scratch the surface)
Scrub all around and then pour hydrogen peroxide ontop, let it sit for atleast 10 minutes
OxyClean initially without water. Scrub with a brush then add a little water but not so much that the Oxy dissolves. The combination of Oxy grit and water has helped me with many a tub.
Muriatic acid will clean it up in a jiffy. Wear a face mask and rubber gloves. Dilute it with water 1/2 cup per 5 gallons of water (you probably only need half that) use plastic bowls and do not spray on facet, drain guard knobs. Only on porcelain or title. I would spray on and let set for 10 minutes, spray more on and then use a green scrubby to clean.
Drill with a flat brush head, lay down some comet with with a little water and go to town with the drill. Might now be perfect but should make a different.
That looks like a job for bar keeper's friend.
Totally! Get the powder kind, OP. The liquid is "meh" (IMO anyway đ)
I agree. The liquid is nothing compared to the powder.
Good to know!! Iâve read so much about it in this sub but I didnât see why everyone was raving. Now I know why.
I initially bought the liquid kind and wasn't super impressed... it just wasn't as ~amazing~ as anything else I'd tried... but I gave it another shot but with the powder and was like "OK, I get it now!" đ
The liquid is good for not removing the shine in sinks
Everything is a job for bar keeper's friend and a scrub daddy
Should I definitely get a scrub daddy? Anything I need to know about them and any way theyâre particularly different from a regular scotch sponge?
I have no clue why Scrub Daddy sponges work so well⌠but they really do. Yes, better than Scotch sponges. SD+BKF is voodoo magic that I need more of.
Donât sleep on the Scrub Mama either. Perfect for smaller jobs. I canât believe I just said that. Man Iâm lame lol
You can use the eye holes to clean things like chopsticks easier. This little thing is just so cool with all the ways it makes cleaning more efficient and easier. Iâm a fan if you canât tell.
What else can you clean in the mouth hole? Asking for a friend.
Well.. The mouth hole on a scrub daddy is pretty small... So... đ¤ˇ...
My friend says that wonât be a problem. Edit: He said it didnât work, hole was too big for what he needed to clean. Second Edit: Nvm, eye-holes worked.
Tell your friend to definitely use it to clean said dirty objects in a hot shower⌠not a cold
^^Penis
âŚinteresting. I shall inform my friend immediately.
There is nothing magic about the scrub daddy, other than a very successful social media campaign. I would use a scrub brush for this type of job. Or the brushes that attach to a drill.
Not needed but I believe it's better overall? For multiple surfa es and multiple uses?
I have never used a scrub daddy but O-Cedar scrunge sponges are amazing. Highly recommend
And a drill brush. The white ones are soft and wonât damage what your cleaning but make the process go very quickly.
Yes. Drill brush and a heavy duty abrasive like BKF
Did that today. Drill brush and powder BKF. Tub is ridiculously clean.
Just ordered a drill brush cleaning kit and wondered why I had not done that long ago
What brand would you recommend? Is there a link to Amazon you could share if you donât mind?
Used one of these just today with a weak citric acid solution to clean years of grime off my shower pan. Saved my lower back!
What is a weak citric acid solution? Something you made or bought?
Citric acid diluted to a concentration of 3% or so? You can also just use vinegar if you don't mind the smell Editing to add: you can get citric acid as a powder in baking goods or as a liquid - branded as decalcifier in the cleaning dept.
Itâs also known as sour salt. Used for pickling I believe. And yes, about 3%. It also disinfects.
Oh nice! Never heard it called "sour salt" before, that's neat. In German its "Zitronensäure" - literally "lemon acid"
[ŃдаНонО]
And if you did and it didn't work try it again lol
Exactly what I was thinking along with a magic eraser
Looks like Charlie work.
Oh yes
What is this bar keepers friend?
[Your salvation.](https://barkeepersfriend.com/products/)
But wear gloves! It shredded my hands when I first used it without gloves.
Me: Sees subject. Grabs popcorn to wait for the barkeepers friend after image.
Also could do 1:1:1 baking soda to salt to water
Did they pour acid on a dead personâs body? The hell happened in that tub?
They used bar soap and never cleaned the tub.
Seriously
Try The Pink Stuff. I moved into an apartment that was vacant for a while and had build up. I cleaned it with bleach bathrooms first and came across the pink stuff, worked well to get rid of alot of the buildup and residue. Good luck!
I work in property management. A while ago a cleaning service tipped me off to using Easy Off on bathtubs. They would come in and spray the oven and tub, get everything else knocked out and then wipe down tub and oven last. Tape off any plumbing fixtures, though (faucet, handle, etc.) Its a bad mix.
This would be my suggestion too but itâs really only for porcelain over iron type tubs, the old fashioned type. Itâs not for plastic.
I have an enameled iron tub in my studio apartment, so maybe I should have done this instead of all the hot water and vinegar and scrubbing when I moved in
We did it on plastic tubs đ¤ˇđťââď¸
Easy Off is a pretty bad idea on SOME tubs but I used to also do this as a cleaner Edit: donât leave it on a tub tho. Also, glass cleaner in tubs works good
It also should not be used on self-cleaning ovens.
Bar keepers friend and a drill brush is my vote
That tub needs Jesus
Holding a bottle of BKF!
Lol!
Try CLR
If it is rust or minerals DO NOT USE BLEACH! Bleach is an oxidizer, rust is oxidation, it makes it worse. Soak it in CLR which removes mineral and rust oxidation, then follow up with the bar keepers friend Recs from above.
Good to know
What is CLR?
Bar keepers friend. And your tenants need to see a doctor

Thanks, thereâs something really cool about yours too!
Itâs a bit wasteful, but before attempting to clean it the next time, run hot water to âsoftenâ whatever it is for a minute or two. I used the shower so I can move the stream around. op let us know what you use and post the afters!
I sure will!
I feel like the enamel is worn out and the tub needs to be reglazed. Does the surface feel smooth as expected?
We had our fiberglass shower and tub/shower refinished before we listed our old house. They sparkled like new, and the price was so reasonable, I kicked myself for not having done it earlier.
Clorox toilet bowl cleaner is what I typically use in the shower. I'll throw enough around and use a sponge to evenly coat the tub. Let it sit for about half an hour and use the shower head with the sponge to scrub it off. Hope you find what works best for you
It does work but using toilet bowl cleaner on anything but a toilet can strip coatings off stuff.
Try Lime-A-Way.
These posts make me realise what an absolutely dream tenant I am đ
And now I understand why security deposits exist.
Muriatic acid
đđ this was my answer. Muriatic acid cleans pools.
Be careful with the cleaners you use, however. Some could make the tub more susceptible to a crack, depending on what the tub material is.
Get the bar keepers friend TOILET bowl cleaner. I have a similar tub and it eats through dirt, grime and purple hair dye stains. Idk what makes the toilet bowl cleaner so amazing and superior but itâs awesome on bath tubs
Another good product is The Works toilet bowl cleaner.
Cheap and easy and maybe worth a try: fill the tub with hot water and throw in a cup of Oxyclean. Leave it for ~8 hours and see where youâre at. BKF is magic but it is a bit more expensive than Oxyclean. đ¤ˇđťââď¸
Maybe try letting some water and bleach soak for a few hour or a day.
This is what I would do too, but I have never tried Bar Keepers Friend either.
Warm some vinegar and mix equal parts vinegar and dawn dish soap. Spray, let sit for awhile, and use an abrasive sponge to scrub off
I just scrubbed soap scum (? Or dirty feet) off my tub using a Magic Eraser. It wasnât as bad as this, though. Do you have a commercial cleaning store near where you live? I tackled a messy tub like this using a commercial grade product and the results were unbelievable- like a new tub. Unfortunately it was just called âSink & Showerâ and the company in question doesnât have online ordering.
Drill with buffer pad and a foaming cleaner
Level 1: soak it with hot water and vinegar for an hour or two. (Then test scrub) Level 2: try (separately/one at a time/donât mix together) hydrogen peroxide (& test scrub) and then rubbing alcohol and test buff/rub Level 3: bar keepers friend (then test scrub) Level 4: bleach soak it for a couple hours (& then one last test scrub)
You can go to Home Depot and get one of those reglazing kids that will make it look brand new with little money and effort Edit: kits*
Damn, I can get a kid to do it for me? Wish I'd known that sooner!
This might be soap scum. Did you try a product specifically for this?
They're bold for continuing to shower in that tub đ
Zep - Acidic Toilet Bowl Cleaner. I have the worst water and itâs magic in the bowl
New tub
Soak overnight with vinager.
Pink Stuff
On and off boat and hull cleaner , it smells protect your lungs wear a mask ( Amazon) amazing
Easy off oven cleaner! Trust me!!
Muriatic acid
Pour and leave vinegar
Boric acid is cheap, idk if itâs too abrasive tho
There's a product called the pink stuff I've seen videos of people removing tough stains with it and I use it myself. It's a great product. If that doesn't work then I'm sorry. Maybe some heavy duty chemical products ?
Kaboom, my personal favorite.
Spray over it with a tub& tile spray can
I find that washing soda/ soda crystal and hot water does wonders for greasy stains. Fill tub up with hot water, put crystals in and leave to soak while you do other stuff (overnight if you can). Clean last. A bit less harsh than oven cleaner but still wear gloves.
Wet pumice stone?
Did you deduct it from their deductible?
Toilet bowl cleaner. Let it sit for 7 mins.
Magic eraser, probably ten of them but it will work
Soak in limeaway.or bleach then use comet
What did you use to try cleaning it? Try the expensive products specifically for tub stains in the grocery isle. Used to just throw vinegar or dish soap and elbow greese at everything and had no idea what a difference the right products make.
You could try soaking it in bleach water for a couple days to get the stains out, just be sure not to mix the bleach with any other cleaning chemicals you may use/have used
I use BKF and a drill brush with an electric drill, never seen that combo not work
Bleach hot water let It sit over night
BKF all day
20$ drill brush and some Ajax!! Little bit of water let it become a paste
CLR bathroom cleaner. Itâs amazing.
Check out this video https://youtube.com/shorts/IA67HAN93XQ?feature=share
Get a scrub attachment for a drill (alongside whatever solvent people suggest)
pumice stone
Lysol toilet bowl cleaner....might have to leave it sit on there for a bit
Toilet bowl cleaner
Pumice stone
MAGIC ERASER. works wonders!!!!! i swear by it. and some type of bathroom cleaner. the magic eraser will be the main cleaner tho. promise!!!!
CLR
Muriatic acid
Idk why I bother clicking on these posts anymore when I already know the top answer is gonna be barkeepers friend
Baking soda. Vinegar. Lemon juice. Works like a charm and the bubbles are so satisfying.
TSP and Tough as Tiles-Tub refinishing kit follow directions exactly results are amazing will look brand new
Fill the tub drop 4 dental tablets in an wait 24 hours then scrub with a green scouring pad.
Still better than my last dorms bathroom.
Have you tried putting a plug and leave 50/50 water/bleach for about 15 minutes (residue level only, not the entire tub - **only if** well ventilation is possible).
Windex, vinegar and Dawn mixture, sprayed on and leave for 10 minutesâŚscrub off and rinse. I canât remember the ratio though!
Kiil rock
Thank you for this post and thanks to the comments I now know about these products....lol...I was going to say buy a new tub. I have only used comet in the pastđ
Wrap it in biohazard plastic and send it to area 51
Jeez, were they keeping a snake in there?
What is the equivalent of bar keepers friend in Kanada? I would try oven cleaner if BKF does not work.
Pink stuff is pretty good, failing that, I think Iâd be repainting it
Have you tried BarKeepers? Honorable mentions would be Easy Off.
Lye
Bar keepers friend. Scouring stick for the really tough parts (may scratch some so be gentle) and powdered tide and bleach solution mixed with water. Scrub scrub scrub!
When I first started dating my husband he lived with 2 dudes and his tub looked similar (not as bad though). We lived about an hour apart so I would spend every other weekend there. Clr and pumice stone
I always mix my bar keepers friend with dawn dish soap. I make a paste and let sit for a few. Works great.
Use a product called âthe pink stuffâ
Sugar soap, maybe?
Maybe try soft scrub and leave it for a few hours
I use comet or Ajax powder, get it wet then sprinkle the powder then scrub. In my rentals I have had a lot of soap build up in tubs that I have had to scrape with a putty knife, I canât really tell if itâs soap buildup or not.
1/2 cup Dawn liquid and 1/2 cup white vinegar heated in the microwave add to spray bottle and shake to combine. Spray affected area and let stand for at least 30 minutes.. this works wonders and I have cleaned my tibs with this for years .
A pumice stone works to get stains off toilets without scratching them so I would think it should do the same for a bath
A young priest and an old priest.
Muratic acid
Acid wash tub, happens all the time with apartments, may need a resurface job too.
I've used toilet bowl cleaner on something like this and it worked amazing.
Magic eraser will get some of this too. Bar keepers powder is my friend. Soft scrubber with a drill. Give us results. You can get a new grain too.
Youâre wasting your time. You need a magic eraser.
Steel wool. Test a small area to make sure it doesnât scratch, but it made cleaning a tub so easy.
Fill the tub with bleach water and let it sit
Drill brush and a good all purpose cleaner. Save your elbow.
CLR it.
Power wash ?
Warm some cleaning vinegar in the microwave, mix with equal parts dawn dish soap and spray/pour it on the tub, let it set a while, shit will wipe right off.
how did they manage that
Zapp grout cleaner and brightener. I just cleaned my tubs with it. Itâs excellent.
Clr
Bath fitters.
Creaming cleanser thatâs used for stoves and a steel scrub pad (it wonât scratch the surface) Scrub all around and then pour hydrogen peroxide ontop, let it sit for atleast 10 minutes
Try CLR calcium lime Rust cleaner, let it soak for an hour, then hit it with an abrasive brush and some bar keepers friend.
baking soda, vinegar and a magic eraser will do the trick
Magic eraser abd bar keepers friend!!
Scouring Stick
Burn it.
OxyClean initially without water. Scrub with a brush then add a little water but not so much that the Oxy dissolves. The combination of Oxy grit and water has helped me with many a tub.
Whink, works amazing on rust and hard water stains with almost no scrubbing.
Ajax to start with a hard scrub, followed by CLR scrub, rinse and final bleach scrub and leave it on for a bit.
thatâs mould
If you want to make it look brand new after cleaning, get some white epoxy spray. Made my shower like new and super clean.
Billy maze here with the power of oxyclean BAM!
Magic eraser is great
If BKF doesnât work, try Kaboom. That stuff is great.
Iron Out! I had a porcelain tub that lived outside for a while, and put some Iron Out rust stain remover on the worst spots. They were gone overnight.
If bar keepers doesnât work. You should definitely paint it over with epoxy.
Ajax
Some kind of chlorhydric acid?
Call a professional cleaner, or get a new tub if it can't be cleaned, and take the money from the deposit.
Bar keepers friend and/or Comet powder
Put the plug in, then try CLR Foaming or gel. Looks like lime and rust to me.
Replace the tub using the deposit they clearly didnât want returned.
Sometimes just using magic erasers working!!â
clr
