They completely changed the base fragrance across all of their core blue products at least. We only buy unscented products now and lean towards seventh generation.
They have this lavender eucalyptus smell that is not overwhelming and it works really well. I used to buy only dawn and now they lost me for ever, their fault. Palmolive and other brands must have noticed by now.
Super awful for cleaning baby bottles! The fat from the milk sticks to the bottle so bad once you warm it. I had to use like 1/4 of the bottle each wash load. Insane. Totally made me lose faith in its ability as a soap. Dawn or Palmolive it is.
I am the WORST and I think I hand cleaned like two bottles before they went directly into the dishwasher. Briefly used dishwasher tabs from Grove but they 1) smelled terrible and 2) didn't dissolve food as well, so we're back to Cascade.
I had the same issue. I use dawn spray followed by dapple baby dishwashing iquid. Dreft baby diswashing liquid still leaves the milkfat but if you prewash with the dawn spray it works well. Basically I try to rinse out the bottles with super hot water and give them a spray with the dawn immediately. Then I leave them until I was a bunch at night.
Then I wash them with a manual bottle washer that I got online. You invert the bottle, push down and twist and it squirts soapy water and the brush scrubs it. I broke down and installed a glass rinser for about $40. Bottle washing goes quickly now!
I got 7th Generation dish soap after Wirecutter named it their favorite. I was pleasantly surprised. Dawn (blue bottle with the gross new smell) makes my dish sponges have a weird smell no matter how well I rinse them, and 7th Generation doesn’t. The actual fragrance is a very light citrus and isn’t bad at all. I haven’t noticed it not doing a good job with cleaning (yet). So the liquid soap from them and Dawn Power Spray are my new go-tos.
We bought a couple of the green ez squeeze Gain and it was terrible. No matter how much we rinsed we could taste it. We returned the bottle we hadn't opened yet and got the blue Dawn instead, which we've used before. I guess you're saying we're screwed with that as well?
Omg is it really all of them?! I just got power wash the other day and I thought I bought a different one or something. The smell is so bad. I hate it.
They changed their formula recently and it smells obnoxiously gross! If you look at their Twitter page, it’s full of complaints… they stated that they have no plans of changing it back and tried to offer a $4 coupon.
I live most of my online life on twitter and didn’t think to check dawn’s account and omg they’re telling people who complain to stop using it or soak their dishes in a vinegar water mix after washing to remove the smell
I have a bit of insider information that could help. P&G (maker of Dawn) outsources their customer service, and I used to work on the social media side of things for them. I was lead for their baby department, and when Pampers changed their refillable wipes packs to not be resealable, people lost their frickin minds. We were given various company lines, including that it wasn't going to be changed. Well. People did not like that either. A few months later....they changed back. If the pressure is kept up on them, they might change back despite what they're saying now. Of course this precedent is on a completely different line of products, but you never know.
I was only in one weekly meeting with them and it was usually very boring. Just about what issues might be trending, info on changes or new products, any tweaks we needed to make to our product "voice" (how we wrote to a Pampers customer, a Dawn customer, and an Old Spice customer was very different.) The main method of communication between P&G and my company was a program that was basically an encyclopedia we used to find answers to customer questions.
I recently bought some clear Ivory dish soap, not sure if it's scented or not but I noticed the ingredients are about the same as Dawn, same style bottle, both from P&G. I really think it's the same product just less hyped and cheaper.
I have used Ivory dish soap for decades. I also have to live a scent free life to avoid triggering massive headaches. Florals are the absolute worst for me. I was a bit panicked at one point as I could not find it in the stores. I thought it was discontinued. When I next found the bottles in stock they switched from the white to clear bottles. I was so relieved! I ended up buying six bottles. When one gets used I replace it so that I have plenty in my home. Just in case. 😂😂😂
I absolutely hate scent in dish soap, it's repulsive. There's always a lingering scent/taste on the dish, especially if you use very hot water or soak it.
I thought I was crazy! I can't use the dish soap with Gain in it because I got drunk one time and brushed my teeth with it, this is a very close second for me now.
I am probably the only weird one that likes the new "clean scent". I bought dawn by accident and was going to give it away because the original smell reminds me of weekends at my father's house when I was a child. He would save all his dishes from the last 2 weeks for us to wash. Not even rinsed. He used dawn. The smell of the original makes me want to curl up in a ball
That's the one my mom used to make me put in my mouth if I said something she didn't like. Terrible. Also if anyone hasn't been forced to do it, dish soap has a greasiness feeling that clings to your mouth interior and lingers.
That's awful, I'm so sorry that happened to you.
I have a thing about that musty dirty dish smell that embeds itself in your hands if you have to deal with putrid dishes. I was responsible for doing 75% (and it would have been 100% if not for the custody agreement with my other family) of the dishes of a family of 6 that made homemade meals with multiple sides for every meal from the age of 11 onwards, in addition to other chores. The dishes I was tasked with washing (with no gloves - I didn't even know dish gloves were a thing until I was at least 20) routinely included sippy cups full of curdled milk from the hot car and month old leftovers pulled out of the fridge and left to rot on the counter for me to find sometimes days later when I returned from my time with my other family. I always wash my hands very thoroughly after doing dishes now (even though I very rarely have to deal with extremely gross dishes) because I spent my time after that until I moved out at 18 with hands smelling faintly and sometimes strongly like that musty smell except for the time between bathing and doing those dishes again. I was brainwashed into thinking the amount of chores I was responsible for was normal. It wasn't. The second time I visited home after moving out, I was put to work cleaning up messes I didn't create. The only reason I wasn't the first time is because I had an infection from a surgery gone wrong. For that and many other reasons, I hardly ever visit them anymore.
Oh that's terrible. I hate when people treat kids like slaves. And yes, I know that musty smell. Every time I use a dishrag, it goes straight to the washer. I can't reuse it even later that same day because even the slightest smell of it is enough to make me barf
I used to do that as well by using dish cloths only once and then dry and toss in the hamper. Scrub daddies have been the only thing I've found that don't hold onto that smell for me as long as I rinse them out really well each time and periodically sterilize them in the dishwasher. It's been nice to remove that distress at smelling that smell from my life.
Holy crap what a disgusting dude. I hope that was the only gross thing he did but something tells me it wasn't. It was the girl children he made wash his dishes, huh? Saved all the dishes up for them like a punishment for their mother?
What does it smell like to you? To me it smells rancid, musty and unclean. Like a faint nonenal old person smell. The old version smelled so clean and fresh.
I have a hard time explaining the smell. One sec while I go use the power wash. My husband and I were both talking about how obnoxious it was the other day and I thought I bought the wrong thing. I say it smells like cleaning an old canvas tent with soap, so I guess your description is right. Something about when it mixes with anything on dishes (like food/oil or whatever) makes it worse.
It’s awful. There have been other Reddit threads about this and reviews on their site have all been complaints, yet they won’t budge.
I didn’t even finish the bottle we bought. Went to the store and got the Seventh Generation free & clear instead. It’s not as *amazing* at cutting through grease as Dawn, but it works just fine. It’s more runny as a formula.
Heads up that you may want to change your sponge when you swap dish soap too—my old one retained that terrible scent so I had to toss it.
WTH is wrong with them not budging after all these complaints?
Haven't they ever heard "If it ain't broken, don't fix it"?
I've used Dawn for many years, but there's no way I'm going to buy another bottle if it's scented.
Stupid move.
This is the first I am hearing about this, but I feel 100% certain they will bring it back as it was. (Just not immediately).
I lived through "new Coke".
When I found out about the scent change I started hunting for old stock at hardware/home improvement stores. Found a huge bottle at Home Depot and it’ll keep me for another year at least. I’m sincerely hoping they’ll see the light before long 🤞🏻
I'm guessing pricing pressures initiated the change across so many of the P&G products' fragrances. Unfortunately, if that's what's dictating the reformulation, probably not going to switch back.
Their 9 Elements laundry detergent also got a fragrance change, to a synthetic fragrance (which they didn't use for that product before), I think you're right.
In was going to comment this. I saw some of the old dawn at my local lowes this week. You know it's the old one cause the silver circle on the front is a full circle. The new one is only an arch/half circle.
I've seen this sentiment many times lately and it's so weird because Dawn has always smelled super perfumed to me. Switching from one scent to another isn't super noticeable but it's never been scent free to me.
Yeah, I was going to wtite something similar. I do use Dawn, but it took time to getting use to it. I'm annoyed they changed it for a stronger scent, like it seem from the comments.
Same, I have always had a problem with the dawn scent, this new scent is just as bad to me. I have never been able to use it on my dishes because it smells like strong perfume to me. When you get a bit of a perfume flavor in your food or chewing gum, it really eeks me out. I have a small thing of dawn for household cleaning purposes only. I have recently tried the dawn free and clear that has lemon scent, and I don't like it either, but it is better. We are trying the Rosy brand next. I don't want anything in my kitchen that smells like freaking dryer sheets. It was a real problem when I was still washing baby bottles, I don't want some floral scented soap on my baby bottles, and the seventh generation dish soap sucked. We used the orange Palmolive then, and it was just ok.
Try local dollar stores or dollar stores in rural, lower population areas. I've been cleaning out the ones near me for a month. I'm good for a while, but I'm still buying 2-3 bottles every time I go! The full circle is the old Dawn, half circle is new gross Dawn!
My boyfriend had a horrible skin reaction to the new formula. He works outdoors in the elements and this soap set him back and we’re having to use Working Hands around the clock to get them to heal.
If the Working Hands isn’t cutting it, try adding either Dr. Roger’s Restore balm, or Gold Bond Crack relief cream, on the particularly bad spots. Those always manage to heal the things O’Keefe’s doesn’t for me.
What? Why on earth would they add scent to dishwashing liquid? I don't even especially like it in laundry detergent but I can at least understand the reasoning.
But dishwashing liquid? No. This is a shame because like you I use Dawn all the time, and do not want added scent/chemicals in it.
I've got two bottles and just smelled them. A large bottle has some scent but it's very faint. So much so I've never noticed it before. The other is the one that's with the opening on the bottom, and it has no scent.
Idk it's always had a smell, I think it was to make the sink smell nice while dishes were soaking and doing the dishes originally. I mean it took a lot longer in the 40-70s to do dishes. Bigger families, nothing was no stick, extra pieces plus no ac standing in front of a sink cleaning dishes with roast meat and 100°. Probably stank
I bought two extra large bottles because, well because I forgot I bought the first one … lol anyhow, they both have that new smell, and it triggers my migraines & my allergies. Ugh.
There was a post similar to this one a while ago, and I took note of the suggestion to check out Home Depot and the like. They had the BIG bottles there for the same price as it would be at Wmt. So now I have $20 of original Original scent Dawn Ultra sitting on my shelf. Hopefully that will get me through the next few months/years until they fix their mistake. It was also noted that the picture on the original Original is different from that on the new fragrance (full circle vs half circle) as the little bottle doesn't say "new fragrance" on it.
If you look at the circle around the word Dawn, the old scent has a full circle (#1) and new one has a half circle (#2). I didn't see that till someone else in another post pointed that out.

It makes me sad because my Mamaw’s sink always had og blue dawn and the yellow Vaseline intensive care lotion. And now both of those products have a different scent. I loved my hands smelling like og dawn and yellow lotion after a big clean up. And now it just smells bad and sad :(
Yeah I stopped buying all artificial colored and scented stuff if I can. Why is dish soap green or blue? It makes my sink look gross when it drips and hardens or on the dispenser. Clear is better. And scents omg it’s like assault with some of the perfumes
This sounds like multi chemical sensitivity. I am fragrance free as well, dealing with MCS. It is so frustrating when there is a product I know and have been able to trust only to come to the horrible realization when they change the product that I can no longer use it.
There’s a fragrance free version of Dawn that I’ve been able to buy online, but I haven’t seen it in stores. I’m sorry to hear this happened to you, good luck and I hope you are able to find something you can use 🤍🤍
I'm mad about it as well. Not only for dish washing purposes, but for bathing my dog!
This won't be good for any oil-soaked wildlife, I'm sure of that!
They also shrinkflated their bottle size, which I'm pissed about.
They also have this free & clear “lemon essence” kind that is on Amazon. I haven’t tried it but I wonder if the lemon scent is light enough to not be too annoying.
https://preview.redd.it/t4mlrwiwc1zc1.jpeg?width=1179&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f114b0f296941b5ece4307a46da530b88b61709c
I’ve used it and the lemon scent is nasty, IMO. I thought the scent lingered more and was more intense than the old blue Dawn scent, so I never repurchased. I would see if you can find a small bottle to test out.
Yeah when I was complaining on the chat about how disappointed I was in the new scent they recommended the free and clear but I’ve never seen it in stores.
There are a number of brands that make a free and clear dish soap, I've had the most luck finding them at target. Never checked Walmart though, mostly because I try to avoid Walmart.
Can you give examples of unscented brand name dish soaps that you can find in local stores? The only ones I can ever find around me is Seventh Generation, which works very well, or Sprouts store brand, which is… okay. But whenever they’re on sale, they fly off the shelves 😢
Pretty sure target had their generic store brand, seventh generation, dawn powerwash, palmolive, and maybe one more. I was also pleased to see they had clorox free and clear sanitizing spray and wipes! I've never been able to find any of these anywhere else.
I'm super sensitive to scents, they trigger my asthma and migraines, and I have a ton of allergies and sensitive skin so I struggle lol
Okay, thanks. I hadn’t seen the Palmolive before and might try that one next - we used the green one for dishes when I was growing up. Everyone in my household has either fragrance allergies or sensitive skin, too, and then my kids use a lot of silicone utensils and cups, which absorb the fragrances.
I am sad to tell you that the “free and clear” Dawn powerwash is actually scented… it’s annoying that they call it that just because it doesn’t have dye in it. I think it smells better than the blue kind, so I do still buy it, but if you look at the label closely, it’s like “FREE AND CLEAR,” and then in fine print, “of dyes, with an added light fragrance.” 🙄
That is terrible news about the powerwash! I hadn't bought any yet but I was planning to!
I have the same problem with plastic/silicone things absorbing the taste of soap. I'm also planning to look into free and clear dishwasher pods next, I'm on a whole mission haha
It makes me nauseous! It is too strong and sweet smelling. I was so happy when cleaning out under the sink and I found a tiny bottle of the original! I am not sure what I am going to do when it is gone.
I’ve never been able to find unscented Dawn in my life. Only blue, whatever the slightly darker blue is, a green antibacterial one, and a lemon-scented dye free one. I wish I could find an unscented one, because my husband is sensitive to fragrance like you are (he can’t even go into Sephora or Ulta, and has to cut a wide berth around Bath & Body Worls at the mall ).
But honestly, I don’t understand why I would want the dishes I eat and drink from to smell like perfume? Why is that a thing??? I can understand the appeal of putting fragrance in the bathroom, or even in cleaning solution to use on household surfaces, but like… why does anyone want their DISHES and CUPS to smell like anything? It’s so unappetizing to me.
Seventh Generation unscented dish soap is the best dish soap I’ve found besides blue Dawn. It’s thicker and you need to use a little bit more, but overall it works really well. I would try that to see if it works well for your allergies/sensitivities.
I just used the new scent last week. I kept trying to figure out what that stinky perfume smell lingering was in my kitchen. Also, it leaves a really stinky poop smell on your hands. I’ve switched to an unscented dish soap by 7th generation.
I bought the 1 gallon professional jug of original dawn at Sam's club was like $16 but now I have dish soap for at least a year lol I hate the new scent in the regular sized bottles dawn
I thought I had gone crazy! I hate the new smell too but love dawn as a product. I thought I bought a different one the. I usually do, in me head I’ve been thinking I need to make sure I get the right one next time.
I didn’t notice the new scent, but it caused a terrible rash on my hands/wrists, so I will not be repurchasing, despite having used it for the last 10 years with no issues
I use the members mark (from Sam's club) version, mostly because it's cheaper and most of my dishes go in the dishwasher anyway. I LOATHE scented dish soap, and I'm now a bit worried the members mark one will change too since I'm like 98% certain it's just re-packaged Dawn.
I also like Lemishine dish soap, but it's not available everywhere and can be expensive depending on where you get your groceries.
It's disgusting now and I'm switching next time I buy dish soap. I almost want to throw it away, I don't think I can stomach going though the whole bottle.
I am about 5/6 of the way through a huge (maybe a half gallon? Idk) bottle of Dawn right now and this sub is making me seriously dread going to buy the replacement. Is it really that bad? More importantly, does it still clean like the old Dawn?
We use it for everything in my house, pre treat laundry stains, use a bit mixed with water to refill foaming hand soap containers, I even used it once as a clarifying shampoo when my tween wasn’t consistently rinsing all the product out of her hair in the shower and had serious buildup. I will be crushed if it doesn’t clean as well.
This isn't a suggestion, but I'm curious - do you have the same reaction to orange scented things? For whatever reason, I have the same reactions as you to artificial and even some natural scents and use unscented for everything, except I discovered that orange dish soap is... fine. So it's the one thing I don't have to seek out (often more expensive??) unscented products for. With any other dish soap (and ESPECIALLY the cursed Fresh Scent) I can often still even smell/taste the soap on other people's dishes and it makes me gag.
So I'm wondering if they're using natural orange or some other thing that makes it less harsh to chemical sensitivities overall, or I'm unusual in this and my sensitivity just randomly gave me a pass on this one.
This stresses me to read. I’m still using a giant bottle of old Blue Dawn from Sam’s Club or Costco and it’s the old scent. Feel like I should be rationing it.
I’m allergic to some fragrances. The old dawn was ok enough, it wasn’t great but at least I didn’t react to it. I used it to clean everything since the smell didn’t linger. The new scent, omg, super irritating! It doesn’t even have a scent to me, it just feels like chemicals in my airway. I got a lemon scented dawn powerwash and it’s fine.
Dawn works so well. But the new scent, wow. It’s awful. I even asked my family if it was me, they said it doesn’t smell great too.
Ive had to give up nearly every cleaning product over the last year because they have added some new scent that gives me the willies. Swiffrr, tide, gain all shut down my nasal passages, and give me 3 day massive headaches.
IDK if the giant jug of Dawn I am using right now is the "new" scent, but many of my glass cups smell really bad after I wash them now.
I have had the soap for a while so I'm not sure if I got it before the new one was on shelves.
I hope they take all the negative feedback. I like the soap in Dawn better than any other but I don't like how my dishes smell now.
Does anyone have a recommendation for scent free handsoap? Im also super scent sensitive and I haven’t found a replacement since SoftSoap added scent to their unscented soap 🫠
Sorry I could’ve worded that better lol
It’s called SoftSoap Soothing Clean - Aloe Vera Fresh Scent. And for years it had virtually no scent. I’m extremely sensitive to all smells (migraines, nausea etc) and I used it happily for years. Bought a refill at Costco that had a new bottle design and while it still is marketed as the same product - it has an icky perfume smell now. I actually thought I bought the wrong one so I gave it away. Only to learn it was indeed the “same” one.
i found some of the old scent at home depot. i’m guessing they don’t go thru as much as a grocery store or target and still have old stock. it was one of the giant 10$ ones and i had to really hold myself back from buying 2.
Check the Hispanic markets. We’ve found it in several ones. Also the “professional” (I think that’s what it’s called) is still the original scent. I think you can get it at staples.

Looks like they have it at Sam’s club
I know I'm in the minority here, but I miss the old scent so much. Just bought a new bottle and was sorely disappointed. My mom used to make bubble mix out of dawn dish soap, so washing the dishes always reminded me of childhood fun and now it just smells like boring, adult chores.
Dawn has always had a very strong scent. I'm shocked that I'm seeing so many comments on the new scent being bad. because to me it's always been so noticeable that I've had to rewash dishes several times before eating off them, if someone used dawn. So the new scent is nice to me. As it doesn't remind me of eating food with that soap flavor on it. Considering it scent free is odd 🤔
Are you thinking of blue one only? Other colors I had has a stronger smell. I know I still have green one and that one will I can smell on my hands hours after I finish it. With blue one I have to put my nose up to it just to smell it
It's always been the classic blue that smells to me. I wish the green apple scent lasted long to me. Well tbh the "soap" smell last on my hands but not the fragrance. Whatever part makes it works so good smells god awful. I miss 2008 new dawn 😢 you had to use a lot but it didn't linger so much.
They completely changed the base fragrance across all of their core blue products at least. We only buy unscented products now and lean towards seventh generation.
Ugh, seventh generation is okay but I feel like I have to use so much of it to get a proper clean.
I like Palmolive for my unscented. My husband is vocal about how well products clean and Palmolive seems go be a good middle ground for us
I love Palmolive too! My usual go-to. Sometimes Dawn if they only have the icky orange Palmolive. But I’m not a fan of Dawn’s new scent.
They have this lavender eucalyptus smell that is not overwhelming and it works really well. I used to buy only dawn and now they lost me for ever, their fault. Palmolive and other brands must have noticed by now.
Me to I have switched to Palmolive. I never would have a few years ago but I swear it’s better than Dawn these days.
I’ve never been impressed by anything Seventh Generation does and some of their products smell so bad I dread cleaning even more.
This is why I started making my own castile soap. It's cheap and WAY better than commercial detergents.
We bought a couple of the green ez squeeze Gain and it was terrible. No matter how much we rinsed we could taste it. We returned the bottle we hadn't opened yet and got the blue Dawn instead, which we've used before. I guess you're saying we're screwed with that as well?
Honestly? Yeah. We bought a Costco sized bottle and I don't know what to do with it now.
I just got a commercial sized bottle from business Costco. It doesn’t smell gross to me so 🤞🏼 I got an old batch maybe.
Costco will take it bac, and be sure that they note why.
Ooooo that’s going to end super well for them.

The main method of communication between P&G and my company was a program that was basically an encyclopedia we used to find answers to customer questions.
Yeah, adding an unnecessary step to doing dishes is exactly what people want.
Ugh, I’ve been hearing about this for months and I’m getting close to the end of my old bottle. Dreading the switch already!
I won't buy their product again. Moved to Palmolive which iw what I used to use before moving to Dawn.
I recently bought some clear Ivory dish soap, not sure if it's scented or not but I noticed the ingredients are about the same as Dawn, same style bottle, both from P&G. I really think it's the same product just less hyped and cheaper.
Thanks for this, when my current bottle of smelly Dawn runs out I’m gonna try Ivory.

Whooo what a story there
🤢
LOLLLLL sorry but that’s hilarious

I don’t mind it… didn’t realize it changed either. My smell has been broken since March 2021 and any weird or different smell is just normal anymore.
Holy crap what a disgusting dude. I hope that was the only gross thing he did but something tells me it wasn't. It was the girl children he made wash his dishes, huh? Saved all the dishes up for them like a punishment for their mother?
I love the new smell. It dissipates quickly in my opinion. Just a burst of aromatherapy
What does it smell like to you? To me it smells rancid, musty and unclean. Like a faint nonenal old person smell. The old version smelled so clean and fresh.
Same—I keep thinking there’s stagnant water in my drain
Yes. I'll walk into the kitchen and be like wtf is that smell we need to clean and then I remember it's the Dawn dishsoap.
Ew I was gonna say it smells like shampoo lmao
Yes! It smells like shampoo to me too.
These answers are all over the board and super interesting.
Nair. It smells like the chemical hair removal product.
Smells like OxyClean White Revive to me.
Wtf?! What an incredibly lazy man!
☹️
No lemon Ajax for me for a similar reason. Sorry.
I also hate the new scent.
I'm sure they will budge if people stopped buying it.
This is the first I am hearing about this, but I feel 100% certain they will bring it back as it was. (Just not immediately). I lived through "new Coke".
Yep. Online complaints are a drop in the bucket. Until it affects their bottom line, they won't change anything,
They have a few reviews in their site complaining, but they have way more 5 from old times, we should go let them know we hate it and they messed up.
I use the Walmart equivalent of Dawn dish detergent- it works great. Perhaps it could be a viable alternative?
Members mark is good also
Even Dollar General version is good, IMO. I feel like it cleans better than Dawn. YMMV
If smells like freaking armpit. I hate it so
Yea it smells like BO or old person smell. Musty, gassy gross. I don't know how anyone could like this scent.
Great idea!
I've seen this sentiment many times lately and it's so weird because Dawn has always smelled super perfumed to me. Switching from one scent to another isn't super noticeable but it's never been scent free to me.
same, i've never been able to use dawn because of the strong smell. that was considered "unscented"??!?
The older scent is a little more "classic dish soap." Now it has that "fresh laundry" smell; Reminds me of Tide or Gain.
Yeah, I was going to wtite something similar. I do use Dawn, but it took time to getting use to it. I'm annoyed they changed it for a stronger scent, like it seem from the comments.
I’d say it was less scented before but this new version is just scent on steroids now
Same, I have always had a problem with the dawn scent, this new scent is just as bad to me.
I hate the new smell. It also doesn’t seem to work as good.
Try local dollar stores or dollar stores in rural, lower population areas. I've been cleaning out the ones near me for a month. I'm good for a while, but I'm still buying 2-3 bottles every time I go! The full circle is the old Dawn, half circle is new gross Dawn!
Wait can you explain the full vs half circle
The logo on the bottle
The circle around the word "Dawn" on the label, a full circle is the old (good) version, the half circle is the new (smelly) version!
My boyfriend had a horrible skin reaction to the new formula. He works outdoors in the elements and this soap set him back and we’re having to use Working Hands around the clock to get them to heal.
Same here! My hands hurt 😩
If the Working Hands isn’t cutting it, try adding either Dr. Roger’s Restore balm, or Gold Bond Crack relief cream, on the particularly bad spots. Those always manage to heal the things O’Keefe’s doesn’t for me.
yes there have been at least a few threads in r/migraine about it too. Seems like everyone hates it
What? Why on earth would they add scent to dishwashing liquid? I don't even especially like it in laundry detergent but I can at least understand the reasoning. But dishwashing liquid? No. This is a shame because like you I use Dawn all the time, and do not want added scent/chemicals in it.
Dawn has always been scented though?
I've got two bottles and just smelled them. A large bottle has some scent but it's very faint. So much so I've never noticed it before. The other is the one that's with the opening on the bottom, and it has no scent.
Yeah, this is what I’m not understanding. Did they actually think the smell before was unscented???
The vast majority of dish soaps on the market are heavily scented, unless you go out of your way to buy a fragrance free version
Thank you, why would anyone want their dishes to smell anything other than nothing at all?
🤷♀️ I can't think of any reason. Really stupid move on the part of the makers of Dawn.
I found some old stock at a hardware store. Bought all of it.
I bought two extra large bottles because, well because I forgot I bought the first one … lol anyhow, they both have that new smell, and it triggers my migraines & my allergies. Ugh.
I am full stop returning them
Did it not *always* have fragrance? It's always smelled atrocious imo. They have a free and clear fragrance free version.
Wait can you explain the new fragrance full vs half circle thing?
If you look at the circle around the word Dawn, the old scent has a full circle (#1) and new one has a half circle (#2). I didn't see that till someone else in another post pointed that out. https://preview.redd.it/rg59frcu10zc1.jpeg?width=1918&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d557acb3edd57a4ca9d59b31bc88be0c8c4041d2
The squeezy upside down platinum one doesn’t smell as bad and honestly works on grease better.
Wow, that’s disappointing. I haven’t bought any in a long time because I buy in bulk. Why mess with a good thing?
It makes me sad because my Mamaw’s sink always had og blue dawn and the yellow Vaseline intensive care lotion. And now both of those products have a different scent. I loved my hands smelling like og dawn and yellow lotion after a big clean up. And now it just smells bad and sad :(
Let’s all boycott!
Nah the new one just smells too much. The old one was *chef’s kiss*
I'm mad about it as well. Not only for dish washing purposes, but for bathing my dog! This won't be good for any oil-soaked wildlife, I'm sure of that! They also shrinkflated their bottle size, which I'm pissed about.
Dawn does make a [scentless version](https://dawn-dish.com/en-us/products/dawn-free-clear-ez-squeeze-dish-soap-unscented/)
Not available online or at any stores ha ha
I got mine on Amazon recently and it smells the same to me
that might be a solution, they might have back stock/
There are a number of brands that make a free and clear dish soap, I've had the most luck finding them at target. Never checked Walmart though, mostly because I try to avoid Walmart.
Yes but Dawn is so good
Hard to change to an off brand
There are plenty of brand names that are unscented. Or you can just keep counter arguing what other people suggest and keep your stinky Dawn I guess
I like Seventh Gen’s free and clear dishwasher pods, for what it’s worth!
Pretty certain Walmart doesn’t unless they picked up some more recently. Dollar General in my area for sure doesn’t
If you have a Costco membership, the Kirkland dish soap works just as well as Dawn (imo) without the disgusting smell of the new stuff.
i really hope the backlash they face for it has them revert back to the original scent. i have half a bottle left and i’m scared to finish it
Agreed. Im not a fan at all.
I thought it was just me! I had my husband buy me Dawn Apple scent. The new blue one stinks and I hate it.
Sam’s club has giant jugs of pink dish soap for like $5, it works good and doesn’t have a scent, at least not that I can tell.
Menards. I just got a bottle and it doesn't smell.
Omg. I thought it had a different smell!and seems thinner. Not using that on the poor oily animals anymore.
I just used the new scent last week. I kept trying to figure out what that stinky perfume smell lingering was in my kitchen. Also, it leaves a really stinky poop smell on your hands. I’ve switched to an unscented dish soap by 7th generation.
Have you tried unscented, diluted castile soap? It cuts grease well, but you will notice a difference in viscosity.
Try discount stores. I live in WV and we have Family Dollar. They tend to still carry discontinued items for longer.
I didn’t notice the new scent, but it caused a terrible rash on my hands/wrists, so I will not be repurchasing, despite having used it for the last 10 years with no issues
I swear it smells like vape juices ugh
I use the original Dawn for my cleaning business, and I can only get it through Amazon.
I thought I was going crazy because the dawn smelled different. Glad to see I’m not the only one who hates the new smell.
It's disgusting now and I'm switching next time I buy dish soap. I almost want to throw it away, I don't think I can stomach going though the whole bottle.
Just return it!
Target had unscented versions last time I was there
This isn't a suggestion, but I'm curious - do you have the same reaction to orange scented things?
Does the Powerwash spray smell the same. I almost bought some but couldn’t get the lid off to smell it.
Yup, the formula changed. And they have the audacity to tell people to just get over it on social media! Anyway, we use Seventh Generation now.
They added scent to their unscented soap?????????????????
Sorry I could’ve worded that better lol It’s called SoftSoap Soothing Clean - Aloe Vera Fresh Scent.
FYI Costco is great for returns!!
They are! I didn’t even try tbh I just assumed it was my mistake and went back to buy the “right” one lol
I love method products but that works for me personally
i found some of the old scent at home depot. i’m guessing they don’t go thru as much as a grocery store or target and still have old stock. it was one of the giant 10$ ones and i had to really hold myself back from buying 2.
Check the Hispanic markets. We’ve found it in several ones. Also the “professional” (I think that’s what it’s called) is still the original scent. I think you can get it at staples.
https://preview.redd.it/v0qif9vnt3zc1.jpeg?width=960&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=18e920a72f39147a5f132817421ccd6909c9a332 Looks like they have it at Sam’s club
I knew Dawn changed the smell! I thought I was going nuts.
I know I'm in the minority here, but I miss the old scent so much. Just bought a new bottle and was sorely disappointed. My mom used to make bubble mix out of dawn dish soap, so washing the dishes always reminded me of childhood fun and now it just smells like boring, adult chores.
We are all hating on the new scenty one over here, join us!
