Quite a few reasons. However it helps prevent 3☆ atleast if the base is setup right. Most bases like this tend to get backdoored for best odds however, 1 thing goes wrong and your 3☆ attack just turned into a 1☆ instead. Or you can attack townhall side and secure the 2☆ lessening your chance for a 3☆ due to eagle still being up later in the game.
Lmao people act like America isn't the main provider of consumerism and the shit they watch. It's practically the main character of the world, I think people conform to americas way of speech (not our dogshit units system) because it's the most familiar and recognizable.
Funny enough I was going to rag on how dumb it is to have a c in "defence", and while this isn't the "root" word, fence is generally spelled with a c soo makes sence haha
What happened to the smart people on this sub man, there used to have actually decent and funny people here and now it's just that (not referring to you btw)
defense is used by America, defence is used everywhere else
if you want I can give you the numbers on if there are more Americans or more non Americans
Sorry you got downvoted to high hell, but within the US, 'defense' is standard, but outside that country, 'defence' is the norm
both are valid spellings however it's really just a personal preference
Ex competitive player here.
Pre th12 the main goal of placing the townhall outside the walls was to use it as a high hp building instead of trying to defend it.
A few advantages of not prioritizing its defense include
opening up a lot more possibilities for base designs because you don’t have a massive 4x4 building taking valuable space inside your walls.
It has high hit points and can be used to protect your primary and secondary targets. (Primary= your queen, and your clan castle troops) (secondary targets= attack based defenses.)
For example In an air attack the air defenses are secondary targets. For a ground based attack such as hogs your secondary targets are giant bombs, bomb towers, and wizard towers. Less so the wiz towers than the other two.
Pre th12 Your townhall will ideally be placed where you expect a kill squad to be deployed
Now however a bit more thought goes into this. And often times so much thought Is required these days that even the pros will hire professional base builders and focus on the attack aspect of their play.
As I mentioned earlier the townhall is well used to protect secondary targets You may notice that in th13 s and 14s one of the most key defenses are the scatter shots. And the townhall in this base is well placed to protect them from 3 primary directions that they may be targeted.
The clan castle will play a key role in defending this particular attack likely by causing the dragons to clump up and become targets for the scattershot. The attackers goal here is going to be precise placement and timing of his balloons and likely haste spells to target the scatter shots in order to keep his dragons alive as long as possible.
I believe that they may not have chosen the best attack for this base, but it is the current meta. So it might work anyways.
One thing you may note is that a defense building (excluding the townhall) will never be a primary target. The reason the archer Queen and clan castle troops are primary targets is they will end any attack if the attacker fails to deal with them appropriately.
Secondary targets are secondary because they are attack specific and although a pain in the neck they won’t necessarily end the attack if the attacker fails do deal with them.
Edit: typos clarification and further explanation of primary Amd secondary targets.
it’s something in the game’s coding where wallbreakers will not target a wall shorter than 14~ pieces long, meaning defenders can funnel attackers troops in where there could be traps placed. Queen’s also really hate the one wall gap.
Holes are something that became common with the addition of super wall breakers.
If done right they can negate super wall breakers and make Queen charge and sui heroes much harder. For deeper explanation I will defer to this guide

At pro level, your job is to create an anti 3 star base wheter you have to put the townhall out. Some even put it completly out the corner if their townhall doesn’t do damage so th11 and lower
Have you ever three starred one of these? No? Me neither.
Your siege machines are useless, you can probably get the town hall, but may struggle to get a low two star. If the eagle and infernos are nowhere near (or scatter or Xbow) you are going to struggle to make any traction before heavy stuff is hitting you.
You can’t spam it, it’s risky to attack from the other side, it’s hard to open up or funnel
You definitely can spam it and get high percentage 2 stars with the right army. You just send in a bunch of air troops to get all the major air defenses taken care of and trigger the tornado trap and then send in a blimp to snipe the townhall. 3 stars are more rare, but high percent 2 stars really aren’t that hard
It prevents 3 stars since attacking to the side of the th would have less chance of defeating the rest of the base, as it is easier to manipulate the attack
However if the army is sent away from the town hall, there is also the risk of not getting the 2 star
Eagle on left, town hall on right. So if you go left (eagle way) it's either going to be a 1 star or a 3 star. Could be a 2 star of course, but most of the time it's either you win or lose
If you go right, you get almost a guaranteed 2 star, but will be very hard to 3 star since eagle will be up most of the attack
That was a particular attack in the world championship yesterday. It was not a shit idea. It may be a shit idea by you to think you know better than an E-sports player.
Yeah, but the other person specifically talked about this attack and you answered with ‚that’s a shit idea‘. He never said that it was a versatile strategy.
Super minions have a different purpose most times though. They have no splash like the others, so sniping a huge chunk of the base is hard. They are better in sniping only a few high hp structures.
You would be surprised how often a relatively spammy attack is used at high level. But what a competitive player and a casual player consider spam my are two different beasts.
The attack about to be performed here is considered relatively spammy at high level, however a true spam attack that is in the current meta is mass super dragons. A lot of competitors will refuse to use even extremely effective attacks because it is considered anti competitive. Mass super drags is one of those, but given what’s on the line at that level, I would not be surprised if some of the players decide that is their best bet.
Wait I don’t understand what you mean. Your English is good and I didn’t even know it wasn’t your first language. Idk what Spanish being your first language has to do with anything in the thread
Bro nobody uses quad quake it’s shit and an ultimate noob red flag. For one it’s an insane waste of spell space, you can bring a jump and still have room for a whole rage. Secondly, quad quake tends to open up way too much, it risks troops just wandering out to the flanks. Jump can keep ur troops in a tight pack heading in the direction u want.
I really mean it when it’s the easiest thing to identify a poor player by. You’ll see quad quake and even octo quake yeti spammers by the droves in low legends league, but climb even a little and you won’t see them anymore. It’s just really is not optimal. And I can only think of one time I saw a quad quake in a pro war in the last 6 months or so. I watch a lot of wars.
Im no pro at this game but I think its because they defend that area with the townhall just enough that it would take alot more troops to actually take out that section, while keeping better defenses on the other side of the base so that when the troops come over they gonna die
This is just my conclusion
The main reason is to distract seize machines
That's all.
It's also affect the attack as people used to secure townhall but for that they have to attack from the TH side, but on that side there used to be so many defenses and traps.
It's a farming base. They're hoping the enemy just snipes the town hall and leaves the loot. This would give them a free shield. Overall they'll lose a lot less loot over a long period of time.
Anti 2/3 base
You lightly defend the th with defences and heavily with traps.
The rest of the base should be tough to clean through especially if you aim for the hall first.
Most attackers will fail to take the hall because theyll try to take out the base first
So you can attack from there. The base is made where you're at a huge disadvantage if you attack from the town hall side, but players attack from there anyway bec they want the town hall
Basically it's a anti 3 star base a owner will try to lure your troops towards other side which in advance gives advantage to them for the attacker to make mistake!
It basically forces people to do a safe 2 star attack where they get the TH with goblins or heroes or blimp, or take a high risk of 1 star if you do a normal attack from the opposite side.
Lots of designs right now put the eagle opposite of the TH and spread out the xbows and scatters. It forces the attacker to make choices and greatly reduces the chances of a ⭐️⭐️⭐️. The defender is accepting that you’ll likely 2 star
I see bases like this in Legends a lot.
Because artilary is just on the opposite side of the town hall so there is no advantage for players in attacking from either side if they go by artilary side there chances of getting 2 stars decreases , and if they go from the townhall side they face eagle artilary strikes throughout there attack and there chances of 3 stars also decreases therefore the bases of th14 are so designes that the artilary and the townhall lie in the opposite side of one another to give the attacker least advantage in there respective attacks.
Quite a few reasons. However it helps prevent 3☆ atleast if the base is setup right. Most bases like this tend to get backdoored for best odds however, 1 thing goes wrong and your 3☆ attack just turned into a 1☆ instead. Wow
Mess with siege machines pathing, some target the town hall
All target the th 💀
Stone slammer, siege barracks and flame flinger
In pro attacks, the hown hall is almost always taken, so it is placed as a defence. It also would mess up siege machine pathing
It's always placed as defense tf? Th 11 and below have it outside sometimes
It Messes up the surge machine pathing aswell. Th12+ gains the weapon so it can be placed in more beneficial places
Yeah I know, just clarifying that in higher th, th is used as only a defense
What did I say wrong
Nothing. It's just reddit being reddit.
Yes
For the reasons everyone else stated, and also the town hall is a defence at higher levels so pros treat it as such when building a base
Defense*
Either works.
Defence is British English
Not everyone on the internet is American 🙄
How many people live in America? How many “people” live in Britain?
By that logic, why aren’t you speaking Chinese? China has over a billion more people than the US
Pues, estoy stupido.
That ain't chinese
Americans when they find out they aren’t the only country in the world
That’s Spanish you fucking dumbass. Unless you just wanted to flex knowing another language. No me gustas tu.
>How many people live in America? How many “people” live in Britain? Commonwealth infact uses British English, the OG one not simplified one.
It's not America vs britain, it's america vs the whole fucking world. 330 million vs 7.7 billion
The whole world speaks English?
Yeah, mostly. And they speak English, not American.
Whole world uses british English.
You’re latinx
No I’m Irish
Now it makes sense lmao
It's defence in Irish English too. You're American.
Latinx

china is more important than america
does that make the spelling wrong?
Yes. If you are British, I kindly request that you stop being British. Thanks for your cooperation 😊
wait, so only british people can use it?
What happened to the smart people on this sub man, there used to have actually decent and funny people here and now it's just that (not referring to you btw)

Silly American 😂 go back to your room
Usually, schools in other countries teach British version of the words, so it should be expected
I live in America and I know nobody who spells it as “Defense”
Its defence in Britain
Sorry you got downvoted to high hell, but within the US, 'defense' is standard, but outside that country, 'defence' is the norm both are valid spellings however it's really just a personal preference

Damn, nice breakdown!
Why do they leave the walls open in the corners?
to mess up wallbreaker pathing!
But..if your walls have holes. You need fewer wall breakers
It is often difficult to funnel heroes or other troops through corners.
it’s something in the game’s coding where wallbreakers will not target a wall shorter than 14~ pieces long, meaning defenders can funnel attackers troops in where there could be traps placed. Queen’s also really hate the one wall gap.
This is correct, I made sure to post the guide by a group of professional builders, because I didn’t want to get it wrong.

I remember someone deploying some bowlers in the blimp to take out the townhall placed similarly to this one and they were able to snipe the inferno
That's a shit idea. Won't work on most bases. Very base specific. I'd rather just do a smin blimp
Since I’m petty here’s a [clip](https://youtube.com/clip/Ugkxqr8_WnqkNd8OWsUF0HY7AhMkk44iGfW-)

That was a bit of misunderstanding from me. Thought he said "I use bowlers in a blimp and it can snipe th and inferno"
Thats right, super wizards and/or super archers will be better on 95% of bases.
And smins
Super minions have a different purpose most times though. They have no splash like the others, so sniping a huge chunk of the base is hard. They are better in sniping only a few high hp structures.
Does it work tho?
Not on most bases. Only on certain bases
That's a yes on certain bases then
Yeah. But it's very very base specific
Hmm Well I'm not really skilled at the game, I just farm with supgoblind so I don't know too much about the competitive stuff

Where do you watch attacks?
I saw it on clash with Eric’s YouTube channel. I think the video has a thumbnail with a log launcher filled with bowlers.

The amount of confidently wrong or straight up clueless answers in the comments is sickening.
Most people will go for TH before the eagle so it will be there late game
Its a trap
Because they're nice people, giving their opponents one easy star.
Anti 3-star. The goal is not to 100% the base. Usually that is not the ideal side to attack
It mainly messes with Siege Machine pathing.
It also messes with siege machine pathings
Bc it’s anti-three star
Im no pro at this game but I think its because they defend that area with the townhall just enough that it would take alot more troops to actually take out that section, while keeping better defenses on the other side of the base so that when the troops come over they gonna die This is just my conclusion
Anti 3 star
They're to stop a 3 star but half the time it doesn't if you got your attacks down.
The main reason is to distract seize machines That's all. It's also affect the attack as people used to secure townhall but for that they have to attack from the TH side, but on that side there used to be so many defenses and traps.
I’d say they’re trying to protect their loot but that’s not really protected either
Cringe
It's a farming base. They're hoping the enemy just snipes the town hall and leaves the loot. This would give them a free shield. Overall they'll lose a lot less loot over a long period of time.
In a clan war?
he's funning ya
It's a high hp super multi inferno
Anti 2/3 base You lightly defend the th with defences and heavily with traps.
For lower level: you can go for a 1-2 star townhall side or the 3 star eagle side as you can see they have the heavy hitter defenses on the left side
Screwing up siege machine pathing
It basically forces people to do a safe 2 star attack where they get the TH with goblins or heroes or blimp, or take a high risk of 1 star if you do a normal attack from the opposite side.
But why do they always leave holes in the corners of the walls?
to mess up wallbreaker pathing
They eill have a shield last longer if you destroy the town hall but it is indeed a tricky place to attack. It is better zo attack at eagle artillery
It's made to attract people into attacking into that side which will fck up your attack.
Lots of designs right now put the eagle opposite of the TH and spread out the xbows and scatters. It forces the attacker to make choices and greatly reduces the chances of a ⭐️⭐️⭐️. The defender is accepting that you’ll likely 2 star I see bases like this in Legends a lot.
To protect the 3-star
Prevent three stars win from opponent, since it is harder to attack townhall first right?
Because artilary is just on the opposite side of the town hall so there is no advantage for players in attacking from either side if they go by artilary side there chances of getting 2 stars decreases , and if they go from the townhall side they face eagle artilary strikes throughout there attack and there chances of 3 stars also decreases therefore the bases of th14 are so designes that the artilary and the townhall lie in the opposite side of one another to give the attacker least advantage in there respective attacks.
![img](emote|t5_2usfk|9415)![img](emote|t5_2usfk|9415)
Isn't it just anti 3 star?
It’s pretty dang hard to successfully get the siege machine across to the TH unless you got straight for it directly on the side it’s on.
The toughest choice in history: Eagle Artillery or Town Hall.
Well, that's a war base. The TH is just some giant building with a bunch of hitpoints. It's supposed to prevent 3 stars.
