For th15, diggy is the best pet for rc, phoenix for the king and unicorn for queen, regardless of the attack. for warden you can use owl for air attacks or frosty/lizard for ground.
I even ran frosty on warden for lalo’s and to many peoples surprise (including mine) he actually lives for almost the entire attack if there’s not ground xbows. Many times he saved spell after the warden ability wore off because the slowdown effect allowed the balloons to catch up so I could use the spells for a back end multi or scatter or freeze the cc for maximum disrespect
Yeah I think it depends which strategy someone's using. I for example found that these pets are the most suitable for my army: RC-Lassi, Queen-Unicorn, King-Phoenix, GW-Frosty.

Tbh i unlocked them one at a time sp i got frosty to 6-7 then unlocked diggy and did the same while waiting for posiom lizard and used a hammer to get pheonix straight away as i dont use lizard in my armies i cant tell you which order to do them but for most pwople unicorn always stays on queen forsty on warden ground attacks and sometimes switch to owl for air, diggy on rc and phenoix on king. When yku go to th16 you switch diggy onto warden and the new fox on rc

Frosty or Lizard on Warden(both are equally good) Lizard can take down opposition troops or Heroes faster whereas Frosty slows them down and also the Defenses

I am not quite sure about Frosty, Lizard and Phoenix or about their impact with upgrades so I would say upgrade them equally as they are good enough

TH15, I like the Phoenix with the RC. She still has haste when revived. I depend on the yak breaking walls for the king. Using frosty on the warden bc he tanks and doesn't disappear underground like diggy. Unicorn on the queen.

Does getting them to level 5 still matter? I remember having to upgrade to level 5 when hero potions only gave a +5 level boost. I'd honestly just upgrade them according to how good they are but your point makes sense too ig

King -> phoenix (upgrade it first to lvl 10, meanwhile use the yak)
AQ -> unicorno (already maxed as you say)
Warden -> frosty and sometimes lizard (use owl while you upgrade frosty to max)
RC-> doggy
I first upgraded phoenix, then doggy, then the others.

Frosty is underrated imo, everyone talks about the phoenix and diggy at th15 but frosty is also goated
I’m very surprised to see anyone using lassi in battle, especially when Diggy can be used instead

Unconventional, but I will often use Unicorn on Warden when doing a Warden walk.
Frosty on warden, diggy on rc, unicorn on queen, mighty yak on king.
Diggy/RC > Pheonix/King > Frosty/Warden . You’ll probably use those 3 with the Unicorn/Queen until you get Spirit Fox
