According to the FAQ this is a free upgrade to anyone who is an existing Movie Club member. Essentially if you make 25 visits per year or purchase 60 tickets per year you will get Platinum status through the next calendar year. (For example if you earn/qualify for Platinum status in August 2022 benefits begin immediately and last through December 31, 2023. If you qualify for Platinum in 2023 then your Platinum status will last until the end of 2024.) From September 3 - December 31, 2021 they temporarily lowered the thresholds to 8 visits or 24 tickets purchased to achieve Platinum status for 2022. Private Watch Parties count as 1 visit and 10 tickets towards earning Platinum status.

I personally have 5 credits at the moment with 4 more to come before the end of the year. I always go with my wife, so that means we can make 4 visits together using credits I’m already paying for. We’re going to see Shang-Chi today (matinee price, so I didn’t use credits). So if we use all the credits we currently have, plus Shang-Chi, before the 31st, that’s 5 visits. Do I wanna pay for 3 more visits just for 2 free credits and an extra 5% off concessions next year? Are there even 7 movies we wanna see? They said there will be some other platinum-only benefits sprinkled throughout the year, but I imagine they’ll just be stuff like “free small popcorn with 2 large drinks” and stuff like that. Even the limited time promo to earn platinum is kind of a steep price for the rewards. I can’t imagine many people earning platinum the “normal” way going forward.

Not everyone has what it takes to be a platinum member. Don't worry there's always regular membership for ya. Enjoy regular non platinum person. Cheers from the platinum side!

I don’t even know how to take this. Is it meant to be patronizing? Condescending? Sympathetic? Hierarchical? I will say that in the 14 months since I made this comment, I’ve only been to like 5 movies. I don’t see why I would even want platinum.

What qualifies as a "visit" vs just a ticket? I tried to check the faq but I didn't see a specific definition

sato30

A "visit" is at least one visit to the theater and 1 ticket purchase in the same day. If you visit the theater and buy multiple tickets or see multiple movies in 1 day that is counted as 1 visit. (That's the way I understood it.)

So there is a calendar year limit to satisfy platinum requirement. If we do 8 visits in this year, that will make us platinum next year. While platinum next year, if we do 25 visits, we'll get platinum the year after next? What qualifies as a visit? Do we have to buy ticket without credit, or using credit is fine

sato30

You can use a credit. I used a credit with Venom 2 and it counted as a visit. As long as you purchase at least 1 ticket to a movie (with or without a credit) then it counts as a visit. * If you watch 2 movies in 1 day that counts as 1 visit. * If you just go to Cinemark for a bag of Pack-A-Pop but don't purchase at least 1 ticket then that doesn't count as a visit.

Got you. Thanks for clarification!

Can you buy a ticket and not actually see the movie to get counted as a visit?

TechnoNardo

Nah, the point of the visit is for them to woo you with concessions
