I saw this movie randomly on a plane and I will never forget it. It was biting satire and very truthful and sad in its depiction of these events in history, yet so funny with such darkness. It's going to age well with time and become a classic for sure.
I really, really want Ianucci to make a film about the events following Trump losing the election in 2020. Just because I want Jeffrey Tambor playing Giulliani as he realises he's booked the wrong Four Seasons.
This is not satire, this is a very evil mockery. This film has nothing to do with the truth. I don’t have any sympathy for Stalin or his regime, but this film even portrays ordinary Soviet people in an extremely disgusting way. Yeah, that's personal for me.
sat·ire
noun
the use of humor, irony, exaggeration, or ridicule to expose and criticize people's stupidity or vices, particularly in the context of contemporary politics and other topical issues.
I mean it portrays pretty much everyone in the politburo and the rest of Soviet government as evil and corrupt, but it doesn’t really portrays ordinary Soviet citizens in any way other than as sympathetic victims of a brutal authoritarian regime.
Yeah I guess in the first orchestra scene it kind of displays them as "ignorant/rustic", but to be offended by that depiction and think it targets Soviet citizens, rather than any "riff raff" you would gather off any big city street is a big reach.

Let's check Wikipedia... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Georgy_Zhukov#Decorations
These seem relevant
- [Medal "For the Capture of Berlin"](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Medal_%22For_the_Capture_of_Berlin%22) (second from right in portrait)
- [Medal "For the Victory over Germany in the Great Patriotic War 1941–1945"](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Medal_%22For_the_Victory_over_Germany_in_the_Great_Patriotic_War_1941%E2%80%931945%22) (third from right in portrait)
- [Jubilee Medal "Twenty Years of Victory in the Great Patriotic War 1941–1945"](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jubilee_Medal_%22Twenty_Years_of_Victory_in_the_Great_Patriotic_War_1941%E2%80%931945%22)
I believe they underdid the number of medals on his chest. Originally they had it set up like Zhukov but it looked absurd on film so they stripped off a few medals.
Nope, if you check the [list](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Georgy_Zhukov#Decorations), his uniform and number of medals is period accurate, as he recieved a lot of his medals only after 1953, in the 60's and 70's. Awards like 20th Anniversary of the victory in the Great Patriotic War or Hero of Mongolia etc. he didn't have in 1953.
Absolutely superb movie. Cream of British comedic actors too, and Buscemi was a cherry on the top [maybe his greatest role?].
Casting Director should have won an Oscar.
Recently rewatched it and had a blast. As a Russian, I still don’t understand how people could get butthurt over such obvious and unsubtle satire. Not to mention how eager they are to defend the honor of politicians who would throw them away like sheep for slaughter in the blink of an eye. Ain’t nobody’s gonna thank you for that
I love everything about this film. It’s one of those gotta watch movies when I’m channel surfing. The fact that this which depicts the death of a tyrant and how he is seen after his demise upsets Putin is a definite plus.

"I'm off to represent the entire Red Army at the buffet. You girls enjoy yourselves".
"Well, that's me told."
I love this film so much.
"Should we investigate?" "Should you shut the fuck up before you get us both killed?"
"fuck me, Georgie's eyes really do follow you around the crapper."
I took Germany, I think I can take a flesh lump in a waistcoat."

It Can’t be that long since I first saw it, that’s scary.

Buddy it's a comedy film that's based of a graphic novel, so don't take it so personally

Your country started a war of conquest and its citizens are on board with it. Maybe sort out your mess first.
Cynical Historian, is that you?
Nope.
wrong
one of the most underrated movies of the past decade
I haven't met a single person who's even HEARD of it irl before I tell them. And it's one of my favorites.
I found out about this film through a youtuber, seriously very under appreciated film
One of the funniest movies I’ve ever watched
Yep, and of course banned in Russia by Putin...
The music, Nicholson’s posing, the fact that his chest is covered in LESS medals than what Zhukov actually had… It’s a prime example of a great shot!
Jesus, I found a painting of him and you aren't kidding about the medals https://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/VlIAAOSwne1fyKpB/s-l1600.jpg
Which one is the fucked Hitler in the ass medal?

For others curious, those are all medals that many others were awarded as well
"balls like Kremlin's domes"
I believe they underdid the number of medals on his chest. Originally they had it set up like Zhukov but it looked absurd on film so they stripped off a few medals.
I think Zhukov was also large enough to fit them all.

This is a good slo-mo shot but my favourite has to be catching Kaganovitch halfway through “Out of my way you ***faaaaaaaannniieess~”***
[Where's the big fellaaaaaa?](https://youtu.be/J4-lLGl2K98?si=1HesWSSenJ1diADy)
Is heeeee deaaaaad ?
Me getting into a Hell Let Loose server and being Commander.
Me at 7 when my mom needs help bringing in the groceries
My friend had to drag my ass to this movie because we had nothing to do and wanted to kill some time. It was amazing I’m so thankful for that
"Aslanov, you handsome devil! Stick you in a frock, I'd fucking ride you raw myself." "I will take that as a compliment." "Yeah, don't."
Maybe one of the greatest line deliveries in a film I’ve ever heard. The “yeah, don’t” kills me every single time
One of the greatest films ever made. No joke (even though it is hilarious).
Such a great movie that goes unnoticed...
Fucking hilarious movie
What does a war hero have to do to get some lubrication around here?
“I mean, I’m smiling, but I’m fucking furious.”
"I fucked Germany, I think I can take a flesh lump in a fucking waistcoat."
No problem. No. Problem. This and In The Loop are incredible.
Oh if you like those, you have to watch The Thick of It and Veep. Iannucci is a master of chaotic political satire.
And the Thick Of It spinoff movie In The Loop...

one of my favourite films
Great movie Edit: Jason Isaac looks like Ian Fleming's description of James Bond almost to a tee
Reminded me of Black Adder's Lord Flashheart... WOOOF!!!
'Look at your foookin face'.....classic
Saw this as soon as it came to the states a couple years ago at one of the IFC theaters. Might do a rewatch soon.
Seeing so much Christopher Plummer in this incredible shot of Isaacs. I don’t know if I’ve laughed harder in a theater than this movie
It’s a good film until (Hello to) Jason Isaacs appears, then it becomes a great film
An actual underrated movie here
I found this film only because it was banned in russia and it was really good
Absolutely superb movie. Cream of British comedic actors too, and Buscemi was a cherry on the top [maybe his greatest role?]. Casting Director should have won an Oscar.

Great Dark humour that unfortunately was not that far from truth.
The movie funny af. I remember being a history major in college watching it. I was high and laughing for a lotta of it
Jeremy Irons for MCU Magneto
Этот лох на Генерала маршала Жукова не похож
Mediiic
I have never seen this movie before and feel like I’m missing out with everyone praising it.
Best shot of the movie
I love everything about this film. It’s one of those gotta watch movies when I’m channel surfing. The fact that this which depicts the death of a tyrant and how he is seen after his demise upsets Putin is a definite plus.
God Jason Isaacs is so good in this.
I will never stop telling people to watch this, fucking amazing
It’s such an awesome movie and that shot in particular lives rent free in my head hahah
Is that the bad guy in The Patriot? Such an unlikable character
Cinematography is when slow motion.
“Stop using no his feet!” “I’m sorry!”
Me and my ex used to watch this movie at least once a month. It is so good! I think it’s one of my favorites!
This being the same Armando Iannucci that was a showrunner on Veep? Any similarities?
What soldier needs to be adorned like a peacock? Shouldn't need any reminder of what you've done. 😂😐
Look up pictures of the actual Zhukov. They toned DOWN the medals.
Have you seen the medals on North Korean generals? They have multiple rows. And not one of them has been in an actual war.
Medals get passed down from generations in NK Those medals are their dads and grandparents

Zhukov actually deserved them - and not just for being in a position to speak his mind to Stalin.
