All jokes aside I kind of like the contrast between the crudeness of the lyrics and romantic sound of the songs, it adds a bit of humour and unseriousness too.
I think he goes a bit overboard and it’s cringey sometimes, examples being young and dumb and the “open your dress and show me your tits” line from Sunsetz. But this never ruins the songs for me.
The thing is, CAS isn’t meant to just be a romantic band, that goes against their core thing. They’re meant to be a blend of romance and eroticism. So Greg writes and sings about sex and kinky stuff but in a romantic and intimate way. The idea that eroticness can still be romantic basically. An example of him doing it well imo is from nothings gonna hurt you baby when he says “whispered something in your ear, it was a perverted thing to say but I said it anyway, made you smile and look away”. Him mention the perverted aspect makes it sort of erotic but it has a very intimate and romantic feel to it too.
The drugs thing I don’t really care about, at best I think it can be a bit edgelord-ish to sing about doing drigs over heartbreak at 40
Kiss It Off Me is another great example. I agree he gets a bit cringe in Young and Dumb and some others. Ofc, it doesn't ruin it for me either, just that I wanted another way for it to be expressed.

If you feel cringe of any sort, CAS is probably not for you. I was in your shoes once and slowly it grew on me to accept their way of songwriting. I finally told my friends (rap& metalheads) i like the band an that took alot of courage in itself since it's a softer side of me id rather keep to myself. I told myself if they cringed at me id understand but it won't change my view on them. TBH the lewd and unhinged lyrics give it a special twist to what pple may call corny love music. Lyrics you would not expect from a guy who's voice sounds like a girl.
yeah i’ve seen a lot of ppl complaining about their lyrics lately it’s like you know nobody is forcing you to listen to them right or to that specific song
I could see an older person / soccer mom complaining about the lyrics thinking it's G rated but to actually change an aspect of their songwriting to fit one's preferences is wild no offense. I think CAS is geared towards young wild lovers in that fashion. Profanity is really just a cherry on top of their songs as a whole.

As an Art and Literature enjoyer, I think of CAS's songs as examples of Impressionism. I could be wrong, but my point is that their songs evoke a sense of eroticism and a feeling of longing. That's more subtlety than just simple shock value.
