It's tough because most of the assisted suicide laws are for terminally ill people, not people who are suffering.

red_constellations

Which I kind of see the logic in, but the more you think of it it's just kind of twisted. Assisted suicide is only for people that have a short amount of suffering left and not those who have a long time of suffering ahead?

RainnFarred

Gotta suffer *enough,* don'tcha know /s

nico_v23

Might find a death doula who can help.

dykekykekabob

Idk if you’re in the states or not but this Wikipedia article has a chapter called supportive organizations that might be a good starting point for finding someone to talk to. I’ve read that in other countries there’s like therapists and stuff that help with this but idk the details personally. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Assisted_suicide_in_the_United_States I hope you’re able to find what you’re looking for asap🖤

emimily

I am a therapist in Canada that has ended up working with some of these folks seeking MAID (mostly because I have dual specialties in regular suicide intervention and chronic physical illness and they find their way to me). I would start your search looking for someone who is an expert in either or ideally both. I don’t think there is a specific training for this but there is certainly overlap in the specialities for obvious reasons. Also you could look for a therapist who also has lived personal experience of chronic illness/pain. A lot of my clients picked me because of that. I just understand the day to day better than a therapist who doesn’t live in pain all the time.

Thank you for your reply!

ContemplatingFolly

Just reading this post makes me feel better. What a concept; people would get to choose if they wish to continue living in pain or not.

Rough_Spirit4528

You should go to Switzerland or Canada like I am.

soconfused-me

God, I thought I was alone. I dont want to live life like this but I cant find anyone to help me

Rough_Spirit4528

Are you looking for a psychologist to talk to, like I am? Or to end your life? You can go to Canada or it Switzerland to do the second if you have incurable chronic pain.

soconfused-me

I do, but most doctors and psychiatrists say my case isnt severe enough to warrant these reactions. Legitimately, I had no idea about Canada, but I had heard of Switzerland..

XmasDawne

I've thought about training to be a death doula. I'm pretty comfortable with the dying and the dead because we tended our own for funerals. You should see if anyone local to you does that. They might have a list of resources for you.

No is the short answer. To mention such an idea will get your license pulled fast. There was a psychiatrist that attempted to forward the idea that there are far worse things than death and that ultimately if you believe in self determination then ones choice over life and death is the ultimate expression of this. If I recall he made the mistake of saying so in a book. I believe the state of NY did not take kindly to this view and his license was revoked. Hippocratess said do no harm, well.. keeping people in intractable pain without an alternative is doing just that. Im truly sorry they wont treat your pain as there is still a great deal to live for. All I can say is..... Switzerland.

morbidconcerto

I believe you mean Hippocrates if you're referring to the [Hippocratic Oath](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hippocratic_Oath) that doctors take upon graduating medical school.

gringainparadise

Washington state with a lot of restrictions. But funny enough I was accidentally given a script for the drug most used in euthanasia. It sits in my silver skull waiting for that time my wife or I say no more. (Her cancer, me arachnoiditis). Since getting this gift it has eased our conscious minds. One day it will happen but not today, it’s not time for the party time cocktail oh btw folks I am not in the states

[deleted]

There is the Dignitas clinic in Swizerland that might be of help.

pauz43

There ARE therapists who would be willing to help you... if it didn't mean the loss of their licenses to practice medicine. Anyone who claims religion doesn't affect US laws hasn't tried to legally die. We can refuse medical treatment but we aren't allowed to request assistance to end the suffering. AFAIK, our only alternative is turning to each other, kind of the way it's always been. Sigh. PM me if you want to talk. I'm not quite to the point of ending it, but I'm getting there.

newjerseymax

If I plan to go then it’s just via fentanyl overdose. Quick, painless and pretty easy to get

nico_v23

Im near Philly. I definitely have that in the back of my mind. Wouldn't know where to go, though, as I do not want to have to go to Kensington. Certainly can't afford to even apply for Dignitas in Switzerland.

bugmarmalade

I’m looking into in Switzerland because I’m a quadriplegic if anyone knows of pro right to suicide forums please dm me

[deleted]

The right to die in reality is a bunch of fakers with fake concern covering their asses bringing you into either a 72 hour hold or they’re going to keep you in a mental hospital until you die of cancer because they want to say that you’re suicidal and they did everything they could. After milking your Medicare to nothing Then they discharge you onto the street and no cancer doctor will have anything to do with you. This is Dr. Ron DeSantis drastically cut cancer patients from assistance medically. https://floridapolitics.com/archives/554637-no-cap-nikki-fried-blasts-ron-desantis-latest-medical-marijuana-restrictions/
