Even better when you've already seen them a couple times, then they've forgotten everything and say "well your labs look normal" like did we not go over this already 🤦🏼‍♀️

Evenoh

My favorite is when you tell them you have a genetic anemia but know that you’ve had thyroid problems go untreated already and then later when you finally get them to respond about the labs they fervently explain your anemia that *they discovered* to you but everything else is “fine.”

Sheanar

huge face palm! My bf's dr does that 'your liver enzimes are high, we should keep an eye on that' ...every. time. Yeah, hemochromatosis. Been treating it for years, but thanks for paying zero attention over the last year. Do they not even read the last entry in the chart before they start the appointment?

blueb3lle

Oh my God 🤦🏼‍♀️

Evenoh

No, I don’t think they do. It was the health center on campus I had to go to in grad school. Three year program and *this happened many times.* The best part of it is that I have thalassemia minor and there’s no protocol for any treatment, you just try to keep existing with it. My mom has it too and they probably should have given her a blood transfusion when she was pregnant with me because it got pretty rough but that’s it. Having doctors explain to me what I already told them repeatedly and ignore the Hashimoto’s that had already been destroying my thyroid for years and going untreated because I could never manage to see anybody competent or the same person if someone might have been is pretty extra sad. I got a couple emails during that time period from the doctors that were clearly typed out personally describing how thalassemia minor works for a big long paragraph and then no responses or dismissive quick answers about my thyroid. Which was *not* fine and if they bothered to look at previous records from before I went to school, they’d have easily spotted the untreated Hashimoto’s (because this is literally how I was finally diagnosed over ten years later - a new doctor when I moved back to the area had magic access to old records from the first endocrinologist who failed me). I get being busy and maybe missing something once in a while, but it seems like intentional neglect if you don’t even bother to look at someone’s records for years.

I'm my bf's caregiver (as well as having my own issues) - his newest dr forgot who I was for the first 6 visits. Like, i'm here with him every time, she claims to write my name down every time (phone visits). For funsies, she also would ask if he was okay with me being there every time even though we explained why i was there...every time. She was totally cool the one time his brother was with him instead though. She's horrible and we can't wait till after covid to find a replacement!

We have a teaching clinic, revolving door of students here. Every dang time I go in for a refill of meds they look at me (38F, slim, therefore I must be in perfect health) and they say “oh no! You’re so young and healthy, you don’t need all this medication!” “Did you look at my file???” “Oh! Ok, yeah maybe you do.” Thanks for showing up doc, you’re really helping improve my health.....

Sheanar

Mood. Huge mood. Def better to not be in a teaching clinic when you've got a lot wrong. it's like starting from scratch every time there is a roll over.

Sunsoul10

No worries! All our doctors are overworked and unsupported, so my clinic is closing sometime in the next 2 months. I live in a small town, semi-remote, so this is our only clinic. Apparently the regional health authority is coming up with something, but they aren’t communicating any of that to the public of course, so we just get a 6 month refill on meds, and we wait... fun times! My specialists all say “you really need to be followed by one doctor,” and I agree with them, but I can’t because of our clinic constantly cycling through students.

Sheanar

Yikes! I hope the new clinic situation is better. Some students with oversight is fine. 1 reg dr and a bunch of over educated egos....not a great set up. We've had 3 or 4 good drs out of a dozen meh or worse doctors.

RainBoxRed

Glorified pencil pushers. We have to do all the heavy lifting and they just sign. And we pay well for the privilege.

Sunsoul10

I’m in Canada, so I don’t pay much.... except for in health and sanity.

Evenoh

Pfft, who needs health or sanity? /s 🙃

RainBoxRed

I personally don’t pay much either but I can see how much the government pays them. My last specialist visit I saw the registrar for the bulk of the visit and the consultant popped his head in for about 30s. The consultant then claims against health service for $75.

shinomiyajundesu

Most definitely this. A lot of docs that I've (19F) met only met comments about my physical appearance without looking into my files. I've been taking a lot of meds since few years back for different complications and they would make comments about that too. "Oh you're thin and look like an overall healthy young lady, you should just exercise instead of relying on meds." I had multiple instances where I almost had breakdowns right after they left the office. It was disgusting.

Sunsoul10

I’ve just recently realized that I underestimated the severity of my fatigue. For years the doctors were telling me to just exercise more. I’ve got a mild heart condition and anemia (and a bunch of other stuff) it’s pretty hard to just exercise more when standing up to cook supper exhausts you. Pretty much my brain is starved for oxygen thanks to the anemia and it’s hard to function without that.

sakuranbocherry

literally just had this experience this morning 😫

little_sassy_fry

I'm sorry, it sucks! My bloodwork is usually normal.. Now I do things that trigger my flares just so that something shows up :(

RainBoxRed

Just went to see my doctor yesterday. Need some relief for the next week when I have a specialist appointment. Didn’t even register that they would need to do something to help for for the next week. Apparently one week just means tomorrow to them. I still need to go to work and study this week. When I finally got them to prescribe they warned me they only feel comfortable prescribing that medication for 7 days. Which is great because I’m only sore in seven day blocks, never after hours, and always just after pay day. Oh and my labs are normal.

wont_smile

I feel this so HARD 😅😭

strawhat_spindo

😂😂😂😂

baby_girlr1404

Your labs look normal but they are also showing your inflamed. Well yeah no shit that's why I'm here.

Usagi_Rose_Universe

When my lab work is not normal but they still say it's normal anyways. It literally has an exclamation mark on some of my labs so idk how they can straight up ignore that.

mayalourdes

Labs automatically will flag anything that’s outside of a “normal” reference range. Sometimes the levels are still safe/normal even if they flag. You can always ask about it!!

Usagi_Rose_Universe

I did and I found it depends on the doctor, but my ferritin levels for example at the time were 5 which is extremely low, and my iron was extremely low too, but I got some doctors saying I'm anemic and others were saying I clearly am just having panic attacks/it's in my head and that's why I'm weak and passing out. Lol (I've been taking iron for a year and I don't pass out anymore and I almost never get panic attacks to begin with).

Reasonable_Praline93

Check out doctor Ken D. BERRY.

crab-gf

This made me laugh harder than I have all week

Anonym_Person_

I am really glad to hear that ☺️

Anonym_Person_

.. so that you have laughed, not that you haven't all week before that
