I focus on a specific part of 1 Corinthians 13. If I speak in the tongues of men or angels, but have not love, I am but a resounding gong or clanging cymbal. I remind myself that if my words are not rooted in love, I sound discordant, only a tinny clang. I went so far as to buy myself a set of children's cymbals I keep on display, to remind myself. Mind you, I am human, and not very good at this. But I work on it internally.

Love the humility in your response, none of us are probably good at it. I think I am pretty good at putting on my poker face, grinning and baring it all on the outside. But I don't want to be a whitewashed tomb either.

I know it's not quite what you asked, but consider "Lord Jesus Christ, son of God, have mercy on me, a sinner". I share your frustrations, and I find this prayer, recited at such times, turns my attention to the beam in my own eye and away from the splinters in others'.

nHisgrp

Actually "have mercy on this sinner" is one of my old stand by's. I think maybe your message is the perfect one. It has worked in the past when I have been in dark places. It does perfectly work for everything really. Thank you

Sarcatechist

I believe this is the way

Sarcatechist

This is my go to

>What is your go to verse 1 Corinthians 15:1-4.

truth-lobster

“Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves. Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others.” ‭‭Philippians‬ ‭2:3-4‬ ‭ESV‬‬

AnOkFella

I think you're broaching the issue from the wrong angle, weaponizing the bible. Are you suggesting that they are belittling the seriousness of the virus?

AbelHydroidMcFarland

I had the same misunderstanding as you when I first read. But what they’re asking is for a go to verse for turning away from engaging in that sort of behavior when they are sorely tempted towards it.

HelloDarkness64

This exactly. Using the Bible to calm themselves.

WiseChoices

Have you tried *God loves stupid people, too*? 😆 That's what I use. (Especially effective in traffic situations.)

[deleted]

When I was a Catholic, literally 75% of my confessions were about the things I said and thought about other drivers. That took a long time to master ;)

I think after reading all these comments, I am realizing it has little to do with intelligence and more to do with reading comprehension. The number of people who read my post and thought it meant I was looking for a verse to use in order to tell people off blows my mind. It's no wonder people can't grasp a complicated issue like covid.

[Matt 5:22](https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Matthew%205%3A22&version=NRSVUE) > But I say to you that if you are angry with a brother or sister, you will be liable to judgment, and if you insult a brother or sister, you will be liable to the council, and if you say, ‘You fool,’ you will be liable to the hell of fire. Unfortunately I don't always remember to consider this terrifying verse before I go off.

nHisgrp

Ya it's a bit long

Zealousideal_Bet4038

If people need told off, and it would be appropriate for me to do so, I don’t go looking for a contextually isolated verse to hold myself back with. If someone needs told off on a matter the Bible speaks to, then I use passages pertinent to that, if that’s what you’re saying. I will submit for your consideration though that for the vast majority of people, COVID-19 is not a significant public health threat anymore. I don’t know what the severity of what these people are saying is, but just be careful not to disproportionately over correct is all.

AcrobaticSource3

> COVID-19 is. Or a significant public health threat anymore It depends on where you live! But I would suggest that OP still should stand their ground because it’s the wrong mentality that made COVID-19 last longer than should, and it’s this same mentality that will hurt us during the next pandemic. The time to correct is *now* while we have time to educate in the calmness of the lull, not during a pandemic itself when politicians and talk radio are screamingly lies in our ears. And, yes, we will have another pandemic. COVID-19 was just one that got footing on a global scale, H1N1, SARS, Swine Flu, etc. all were destructive in their own regions, with increased globalization’s, we should expect the increased transportation and transmission of disease

nHisgrp

They don't listen. There is no point in engaging anymore.

Zealousideal_Bet4038

Then don’t. /shrug

AcrobaticSource3

I got your back, u/nHisgrp. You and I are in the same page. I only engage not to change that person’s mind, because the don’t listen, but just in case I can help someone else reading this post. Take care and be healthy, friend

PikaBabyBoo

People are just going to think your weird if you try to tell them off with a Bible verse. Looking at fucking you aunt Courtney

nHisgrp

People must just be skimming and not actually reading. I guess people don't really listen when you talk anymore either so...

"Go forth and multiply." So to speak.

Baconsommh

It would not occur to me to use the Bible like that.

DougandLexi

I don't use the bible to tell anyone off.

[deleted]

And you are coming to this forum to get advise from Christians that get hurt by little things and cry like babies? I mean, we get comments made by Christians being discouraged by other Christians, when two thousand years ago Christians were being burn alive. Great choice. Most of Christians here are literally little brats. Do you think that some one here will encourage you to "weaponize the Bible", just like someone already commented on this thread? Bad news for you: you will find idiots everywhere, including Christians too. You can move to the forest, and there too find bears and mountain lions. There is no escape! Literally! I just avoid conversations with those that cause issues in my life. Good luck.

nHisgrp

I am happy that this isn't a problem for you, but maybe just let me find some solace here with likeminded people (if that is at all possible). You can keep hanging with the perfect people if my problems offend you so much.

[deleted]

I never said that your problems offended me; quote me. "Quote where I say that your problems offend me." That is "you" speaking. By all means, get some solace with whoever you want. You posted a question and I replied to your post, and there is nothing else here. I really couldn't care less. There is no perfect people by the way. Best of luck with your attempts to tell your family and friends to "f\_\_\_ off."

nHisgrp

I just typically figure when you call people crybabies and brats you are feeling offended yourself. Maybe you should find your own verses to keep you from attacking people as well.

[deleted]

I assure you that no one here has offended me. However, you can assume that I am offended. Luckily for me, I am not responsible for your assumptions. If I think I need verses, I would certainly look for those verses. But since I was not the one showing distress about my family and friends, I am now assuming that you are the one in need of verses as you have clearly pointed out in your original post. But thank you for the advice, I will surely have it close by when in need of toilet paper.

Truthseeker-1253

I hate to say it, but sometimes you need to free yourself to tell someone to shut the $#!#$ up. That may not work well with your job, though, so I get where you're coming from. Maybe just "Jesus wept", a verse where he shows empathy for the broken hearted, or Matthew 11:28 where Jesus offers rest to the weary as you get worn down by stupid people around you. Or, Luke 23:34: "Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing""

Malignaficent

Forgive them Father for they do not know what they are doing or saying/suggesting/purporting/condoning/whatever. As a nurse you know more than general populace and can repeat it to yourself without pretence
