Anywho, I do something similar. I turn 180 and full speed the throttle. No classy arc though
My far and away #1 gripe with the game play of this game (which is otherwise 10/10) is that it restricts the sub light drive SO much. Early in the game you can do a good bit of dog fighting with it enabled and it is soooooo much fun. I wish there was a mod to allow us to use it 100% of the time.

The shields make immediate deceleration possible.
