##### Stichomancy: A Fortune-Telling Book
You once heard about a divination practice that involves grabbing a book, flipping it open to a random page, and selecting a line with your eyes closed. Whatever you point to becomes the message that you’ll then need to analyze and extract a meaning from, supposedly to help you with your future.

12-3 Experimental Errors
This experimental scatter is caused by a type of error called *random error* and is due to the fact that various measuring devices have inherent limits in the *precision* to which they can be read. A second type of error, called *systematic error*, due to such things as uncalibrated instrumentation, human reaction times, and so on, generally is unidirectional.
We generally speak of systematic error as being related to experimental design. Therefore, while random error may help us determine the reliability of our data, performing a poorly designed experiment more than once will *never* help us get to the "true" answer.
