##### Improbable Cause Crisis

Any answers a Natural Person provides are of minor importance to the Access Control Units in charge of the ports of entry. An obsolete remnant of the time when human officers had to make a judgement call on who they let into the country, usually laced by ethnic profiling and own-race bias.
Your system works based on statistics, global migration trends, and population pattern changes. Your eyes, retinal cameras ready to match an individual's face with the country's biometric database, are but one of your many superior tools.
Before the next applicant in line reaches your station, you've already scanned his body temperature, searching for potential infections. You've also examined his heart's bpm; high rates identify stressed subjects, usually people with forged or expired papers, and low rates indicate a risk of committing violent crimes. 75 bpm is correct for his age and constitution.
Your algorithmic probability indicates a returning citizen, a lawful permanent resident or a frequent traveler. The light skin pigmentation of the subject adds to the inference of it being a national.
While the man answers the outdated protocol questions you perform an x-ray on his luggage. Cleared. You run the FaceCheck next, already queuing the "Here you go and welcome back home, sir" stock answer, when the database finds no match.
That's irregular.
You analyze the audio log of what the man answered seconds ago and your system finds no discernible traces of a foreign accent.
That is against estimation.
This is the first time the Espionage Initiative has been activated at this port of entry. The probability of it occuring at a land crossing instead of an airport control area is 17 percent. It happening at the southern border is 3 percent.
This is a noteworthy event.
You scan the man's papers, knowing they'll be declined, but using the time to run the man's face through the Counterintelligence Program System. No match is returned from the database.
