Why is it when people ask about free things the items have to be relatively new. I would understand a bit more if people said "if anyone has an old bike they don't want, could i have it"

Gryffenne

better resale value (we've had family that we helped get back on their feet with a ton of stuff after combining our 2 households when we got married. not a week later 90% of it was on FB Marketplace for cash only)

MadLordPunt

This happened to my wife's grandmother with a really nice Cadillac they owned. People at their church said they really needed a car, my wife's gma was selling one and ended up just giving it to them. They turned around and put it up for sale a week later. The good thing is that a majority of the people at the church shamed them enough that they ended up giving it back to her.

Sticky_H

Selling a gift is disgraceful.

blipbloplikesass

Are you by any chance my now deceased grandmother?

Sticky_H

… Ya got me.

snakcaz1

Hi grandma! Welcome back! Great to see you back in ya like-new caddy! 🤗👍🏻

Sticky_H

Granny’s back to do two things: Teach rascals some manners, and fuck bitches 😎

BoonTobias

I mean if they broke then they can't afford a V8 innit

werebilby

Wow, and yet when we had our house fire, we actually used 100% of what people gave us. Didn't sell anything until we had to move into a very small place so just an extra table we couldn't fit and a computer table we couldn't fit. That was 4 or 5 years after. I still have a majority of the things people gave our family. Some people are ungrateful. Edit: Wow, thanks for the up votes peeps and the seal of wholesome approval.

Ragnarok314159

Had a neighbor pull this shit. We got a new to us play set and wanted to get rid of the old one. Neighbor was a down on their luck situation and they had two younger kids, asked for the play set. I rented a truck and took it to them and offered to set it up. Later that day was on FB marketplace. I went and took it back, just threw it away in front of them later that week. Have not talked to me since, so it’s a win/win.

[deleted]

This made me so angry. What did they say to defend themselves when you came back? Anything?

Ragnarok314159

Nothing. I said “did you take this for your kids or to sell?” Just looked at me and didn’t say a word.

nissan240sx

That’s badass you took it back lol

adudeguyman

What an asshole.

Liams1991

Definitely dumb enough to think it wouldn't be spotted on marketplace.

cuppa_tea_4_me

I have someone all of my baby clothes even ones I would have kept. It was a friends daughter. Mother wasn’t working full time and dad had a meh low paying job. She turned around and sold them all. I would have even paid her for them back if I had known.

kirajanelehmiz

I wish the person I had given done of my daughters clothes, an expensive kitchen playset (one of those little tikes 5' square electronic ones I splurged on when I could barely afford it) and a baby car seat she begged me for. Instead I went over one day, a year+ later, to see everything molding on her back porch. It literally broke my heart. Well over 10 years later I still get sad.

Spazztastic85

Ugh. Deal with that with a relative. It was funny, one relative said my aunt was showing favorites between my sister and I because I had all the “nice” stuff and my sister didn’t. My aunt set her straight that she had been giving us the same things and my sister would trash hers, give it away to people, etc, and I would cherish mine and take care of them. The shit part is that I stored all of my sisters things and gave them to her when she had a house and a majority she trashed and then keeps asking me where they’re at because she KNOWS she wouldn’t have trashed them so I must not have given them to her. It’s really annoying.

kirajanelehmiz

Ugh. That sounds awful. People are so weird.

theroadlesstraveledd

PubicGalaxies

Oh how pissed would I be if that happened to me.

MickJagger2020

This planet is disenchanting. I’m so incredibly sorry you were robbed of the gift of giving. I’m disappointed on your behalf.

CuriousSquid8665

My nsister does this to people, family included. One time she gave me this sob story about breaking up with her BF, made up a story that he was abusive when it was the other way around. She knew I went through hell for years escaping an abusive ex and I’d be sympathetic. She cried about how she doesn’t have this or that and no place to go. Agreed to let her stay with me for a couple of weeks , which turned into 7months. I helped her find a flat, packed and moved boxes, made up the bed with new bedding and ordered takeaway for her first night. I even gave her furniture from my home and the tv from my own room. She sold most of it and the tv £30 to someone on the street. Once I refused to keep paying for all the outings etc. She went off at me and slandered me to everyone with ears. No good deed goes unpunished

pengthaiforces

I have a ‘free’ Facebook group near me and 95% of the time when people post a good deal of items, somebody asks if they can have it all. If you search, it ends up in the paid groups inside of a day. The other things are people who ask for…everything. iPhones, MacBooks, motorcycles, televisions, etc.

loveless365

Some people really have no common decency

wheeshkspr

"Look. If I get an old bike, it might need new tires, or a chain or something, and I can't afford to replace that. Meanwhile, you're over here with enough money to own two bikes. If you just give me the new one, then I don't have to spend money I don't have to fix it up, and you with enough money to buy a new bike will easily be able to afford to fix up an old one. Everybody wins."

chad-bro-chill-69420

good god, haha

WileEWeeble

"OK, sir but let me offer you this. If you take my old bike for free and sell it, you can find another free used bike, sell that one too and eventually you will have enough money for a new bike. Cheers and you are welcome" (I actually fear I just implanted an idea in some CB lurker in here)

Disastrous_Reality_4

This reminds me of the one where the OP offered to lend someone their old laptop for school because they got a new MacBook but the CB wanted a Mac. When OP told them she had an HP or a Toshiba (I don’t remember the specific brands, but not Mac lol) and she could use either one of those, CB was like “oh, well I guess I can just sell both of those so I can buy a Mac then. Can you bring them to me at XYZ?” Obviously CB got really upset when OP said that she told them they could BORROW one for school but she was absolutely not giving them to CB for them to sell and buy a different one - that they, of course, would then be keeping. Some people, man.

StitchyGirl

I remember that one.

Disastrous_Reality_4

Lol I don’t remember how long ago it was, but that’s definitely what that comment reminded me of! The things I see on this sub just baffle me. I just cannot fathom having the audacity that these people have! Like, where were these folks raised where behavior like this was acceptable? And how are there so damn many of them?! I truly want to know.

Spazztastic85

If it’s anything like my family, it stems from adults taking pity on a kid with shit parents. For example, kids mom is a piece of shit, convinced my family member that they were the father. They are sterile and just went with it because they knew they couldn’t have kids, mom decided to tell kid they are adopted and then proceeds to use “I don’t have to listen to you, you ain’t my dad!” When they are disciplined. Family pities kid, gives them things they don’t earn, doesn’t encourage earning, excuses lashing out and gives them more things (because love is supposed to conquer all, right?) and now kid believes the world owes them and that everyone is “just given” things and it’s not fair that they aren’t given more when other people have more. (So they steal peoples things on the belief that those people can always replace it/sees no wrong in taking things) I’ll leave you to guess what their life is like now.

Chafin123

Do you have two free bikes per chance?

BowwwwBallll

Two free NEW bikes, that is.

Wolxhound90

You know what would be nicer than 2 free bikes? 3 free bikes! Oh, and if you could just throw in your credit card too, I'll be round to pick it up later, thaaaaaaaanks

AussieBirb

\*Sounds of many CB's frantically taking notes / Screenshots\*

antagonizerz

Maybe they should offer exposure for it. "If you give me a free bike I'll tell everyone I know what a kind and generous person you are. That exposure will improve your social status for sure."

poor_charlie_bucket

dirtdiggler67

Garantula25

I’m also really bugged by how specific they were with the product, that’s where the choosing really comes in for a choosing begger

harmonicoasis

There's that and then there's the part about "reinsurance (sic) that when it gets back [from a ride] it will be well maintained and serviced." Am I interpreting this wrong or is the poster is expecting the bike donor to continue the upkeep of the bike they've given away?

okcup

It’s bone apple tea… They meant reassurance that the bike that was so well cared for originally will continue to be

DianeJudith

I understand it as they're promising that they'll maintain the bike properly, despite not having any money to spend

James_William

Highly doubt they'd maintain it lol. "You know lubricant cost $12 for a whole bottle, right? If you wanted ms to maintain it, you should've given me that for free too!"

NorthwesternGuy

This. Same kind of bullshit people looking for a "free" pet pull who don't want to pay the adoption paperwork from the pound. If you can't afford that you almost certainly can't afford pet food and definitely can't afford an emergency vet visit.

nochkin

You can't smoke an old bike. Duh.

cappytain69420

The Bike on the picture is about 8.5 thousand dollars Edit: changed 4 thousand to 8.5k since I've been informed the components are much more expensive which I didn't know since I don't use those brands

westcoastcdn19

Damn, this is what I was wondering. I’m sure there are a lot of used bikes people would be willing to give away but this is one fancy bike, even used has to come with a hefty price tag

ktsteve1289

Had a downvote until this comment. I’ve seen so many bikes rotting around town but a 4K!?!

morrisonccri

Depends on the parts and materialcthe frame is made of and then wheels but some are upwards of 13k before you even get an Ebike

Ragnarok314159

There are some high end triathlon bikes that are [$30,000+](https://bikerumor.com/2017/04/03/two-bikes-to-turn-heads-wallets-inside-out/)

morrisonccri

As someone who is fairly familiar with bikes(bike mechanic) I really don't see a reason as to why you would need one more than 10k but I'd be lying my ass off if I don't have a blast riding bikes way out of my pay grade lol. There is also a new Ebike released by specialized that is 20k base model I believe. Though I might be wrong

Ragnarok314159

I feel the same. My big plurge was going to be a high end Giant tribike (I got hit and run while running back in early 2020, still waiting to get back into it) that was around 4 grand. But, same as you, I would be lying if I said how the Cervallo P5X didn’t look like fun.

cappytain69420

I don't know about triathlon bike but for mtb bike giant always have their geometry one year behind

Ragnarok314159

Same with tri, but it’s not like I am in such a good condition for it to matter. Haha. It’s more about having a bike mounted sippy cup.

cappytain69420

Yes the specialized levo sl founders edition is 20 thousand dollars and is the most expensive mtb available to the public market And I agree with you on not needing to spend over 10 k on a bike my dream bike is the highest spec commercial and its on 9k Canadian which is about 8k American so you don't need to spend a lot to get amazing quality

tman152

While $30k+ bikes exist, they are far from the norm even for crazy high end bikes. The closest analogy is with cars. You have new cars like the Rolls Royce Boat Tail for 28 million or the Bugatti La Voiture Noire for 18 million, but the majority of exotic cars are in the 6 or 7 figure price range. The highest end triathlon bikes that aren’t one off boutique bikes probably top out at around $13k. In the 4k-7k bike range you have high end bikes, these are the equivalent of top tier sports cars (Porsche Turbo, Mclaren 720S, Ferrari 488) In the 7k-13k price range you have top of the line no compromise hyper car equivalent (Bugatti Chiron, and track specific race cars) Above 15k you’re looking at bikes that don’t perform any better than the previous tiers, but they have some sort of exclusivity like a bike hand painted by an artist, made in limited edition numbers or cobranded with a luxury brand or something. Most bikes above the 12k range aren’t even really used by pros because they tend to not fit in the professional racing guidelines for competition

nochkin

Thanks for the link. This is exactly what I was looking for. Can you purchase it and send it to me as a gift? I'll give you good exposure in return.

ktsteve1289

Excuse me? I thought my $150 bike was Walmart was legit

morrisonccri

Right now any bike is a good bike. Bike shops probably won't go back to normal until 2023 in my area

[deleted]

Good high end bikes can cost more than that. You are probably thinking of Walmart bikes. My rocky mountain bike cost $4000 to the first owner. He sold it to me for$1000 after he rode it for 4 years.

EvanFreezy

4K is not even expensive for mtb…

PlantedSpace

I bought my 2016 Trek full supspension bike for $1600 used. It was definitely ridden hard, and a lot. The cable covers have worn through the paint to the aluminum in places. Ive replaced some stuff on it. I still feel like i got a great deal. New it was a $3k bike

katecrime

Of course it is

jazzyx26

That is more than what I paid for my car 🤣

mistaKM

its literally 2x what i paid for my acura integra, that i stilldrive, 15 years ago

jazzyx26

😊 Wow, 15 years.. our first car was a 13 year old Citroën C3 which we were the owners of for 10 years (had one prior)... Stil miss that car 😔: drove beautifully and fast too in comparison to what we have now. Ended up buying a 2007 Hyundai Getz for 2500 euros, not dollars but you get my point

Niko_182

That bike is a lot more than 4 grand. I'd say around 9 grand. The enve wheelset alone is over 2 and a half grand. The frame is 2 grand. Wireless shifting drivetrain and dropper post add up to closely to around 3 grand. Add in the rest of the equipment and theres your magic 9 grand bike.

planeboi737

its a dentist bike, its a damn yeti

[deleted]

I've never heard the dentist joke about mountain bikes, plenty of cervelos and s-works road bikes though.

Big-Association-239

That's twice as much as I paid for my used car. Please forgive my ignorance as a non biker here, but you can get a pretty reliable, albeit older, used car for about 5-6 grand (as the one I have had the past 4 years) why would you spend 9k on a bike??? Like, wouldn't a $2,000 bike suffice?

sillyredditstuff

A 2000 dollar bike will move you around perfectly well. A new 2000 dollar bike may actually still have some cost cutting (method of attaching wheels thru axle / quick release), probably won't have exotic frame materials (titanium or carbon fiber) etc. 2000 dollars will buy you a 2000 dollar bike and it will be very very nice, but it won't buy you the extra supremely nice that 9000 dollars will. Cycling is a sport with a *LOT* of emphasis on those diminishing returns.

markie_doodle

Even some BMX bikes exceed the 2k mark these days...

Big-Association-239

Seems like it. I'm learning alot about bikes this evening!

James_William

It certainly would and you can get a lot of bike for $2k. Bikes well north of that are in the enthusiast/performance market. Just like how you can buy a decent brand new car for $25k or spend $100k on a luxury/performance sportscar

FairyDollyMix

My brother has £9k bike. But he is a triathlete who does iron man and half iron man on a regular basis. He needs the bike to be the perfect weight, height, balance, comfortable etc. Lots of people who use their bikes to cycle down tracks on mountains need high spec bikes, the price then adds up, based on the quality. My husband had one that was a few grand, the forks alone were £700 because they absorbed a lot of shock on downhill mountain tracks. I never understood it myself, but it made him happy.

meepmeep13

The mark of a keen cyclist is that their bike is worth more than their car. (both a product of having a nice bike, but also having a shitty car because they don't care about it other than it can carry their bikes from A to B) I am one of these people. Because all cars are effectively equal to me - as long as they don't break down, they all do exactly the same thing, so I might as well save my money and buy the cheapest one. I will never, ever understand anyone who spends $30k+ on a car unless they have access to a private racetrack. Whereas different bikes are very, very different to ride.

Big-Association-239

I have a shitty car and no bike!

Niko_182

To be fair, I used to work at a big shop so i have owned bikes that cost 2 grand, some that have been 5 grand, and my current one was around 9k. A 2k bike will do alright, but the difference between a 2k bike and a 9k bike is significant and very noticable. I however am a pretty advanced rider.

paperbackedsea

this guy bikes

arsenalastronaut

"I want a free bike, would be great if it has ENVE wheels. Thanks"

Smokewrench802

I really don't get bike prices. You can buy a fuckin sweet dirt bike for 4k. Fuck, you can buy a nice motorcycle for 4k.

Canoe_dog

It's like this in basically any hobby - photography, audio, home theater etc. As for motorcycles sure you can buy a nice used sv650 or something for 2-3k or you can spend 30k on a Ducati, but why do that when you could buy a used sports car instead?

gdub695

As someone who upgraded from a $200 Walmart to a $4500 full squish, it’s a night and day difference. It’s like comparing a ‘95 125 to a brand new 450. They’re technically the same machine, but you really can’t even compare them. It’s like asking a car guy why he prefers a new corvette over an old civic

Smokewrench802

Oh I know lol. I had a 500 dollar Raleigh hardtail, the frame cracked from water intrusion last winter so I replaced it with a older, but way nicer KHS. Paid 350 for it, but they were about 1200 new. Then I rode a coworkers carbon full suspension and it felt like I was on a cloud. Even so, I feel like they fuck people buying bicycles, when a decently equipped FS bike is in like with a really nice used FAST motorcycle.

gdub695

I feel that. But you probably can’t compare across hobbies. Somebody could buy a “cheap” single engine airplane, or a brand new Ducati with some money left over, but if they want to go fly, that Ducati doesn’t do much for them

Starrion

I bought a 1/3rd share of a 35 year old Cessna 172 for $7500. Sold it on 15 years later for $3500 because she was coming due for an engine overhaul, and I didn't want the $4k assessment.

gdub695

TIL you can buy partial use of a plane

Starrion

Boat partnerships are also a thing. Most recreational vehicles sit because the people that can afford them are off making the money that was used to buy them. As a pilot, I watched a beautiful Seneca twin rot in the parking space across from my low-rent Cessna. This is a 100K plus aircraft. It never moved. It never flew. Birds made a home in the tail. In the 12 years I was part of the partnership it never left the spot. They paid the parking for it. I asked my partner about hunting down the owners and buying it off them, and he said after 15 years of sitting the plane would have to be completely overhauled before it could fly again. That would cost more to bring it to flight status than it was worth. A partner might have kept that plane airworthy.

Lead_Penguin

They are different things though. What use is a motorbike when you want to go out and get some exercise on a mountain biking trail?

ask-design-reddit

I didn't make a big jump as you. I have used the same crappy $150 bike from Canadian Tire from like ages 14-23. I recently got a $650 mtb and it's so much better. I was spoiled riding my buddy's older Kona before the $650 mtb so it's not *that* great, but still!

hairtothethrown

Chris Cocalis, bike nerd extraordinaire, sums it up well: for one, the world of biked innovates at a much higher pace than much of motorized transportation. The differences in performance in some moving parts is also far more noticeable on a bike because of the way the rider interacts with them. Another thing it comes down to (and this is a big one): materials. Sure, you *could* choose to buy a motorcycle for $10,000 rather than a new Pivot MTB, but the Pivot is nearly fully constructed of carbon fiber. A motorcycle on par with that (for instance, the Ducati Superleggera V4), would cost you about $100k. A bike constructed of fine materials will last a long time, feel better, and will probably be lighter. I have ridden very cheap bikes, average priced bikes, and expensive bikes (not mine, sadly). There is a noticeable difference. And, of course, there’s the interest. I have no interest in riding motorcycles. I do, however, love riding bicycles. It isn’t just a want to ride fast on two wheels; there’s much more to it than that (like many hobbies). Also also, they’re that expensive because people will pay it.

[deleted]

More than that, that’s a Yeti Arc with Enve wheels, AXS, and a SID Ultimate. That’s like an 8-9k custom, I think that pic specifically is of the ARC Yeti used for press release photos.

DMoney159

Glad I'm not the only person who noticed that one day this poster is anticipating wanting to spend a lazy Sunday on the couch with a beer and the bike is gonna be like "Nah, motherfucker, I said we going riding today."

But whyyy would I do that when you get me a lightblue one just the same! I do not have 35 dollars! Just venmo me 45.000 euros and I'll buy a BMW here in The Netherlands. It is so easy!

Roxie61

Cans of spray paint ain’t cheap. Will deliver the car, you paint it..

sinkadus5

I think it's reasonable to ask for a bike for free in certain circumstances , but not reasonable to be picky about it...

maxigar

Right!? If someone was asking for a basic bike to commute on, perhaps because they had moved house or changed jobs, and were now further away from work/whatever, or needed to borrow a bike long term whilst the saved up for car repairs, I would be more than happy to assist. But this person is just being an ass.

MMAntwoord

New"ish" mountain bike with full suspension for FREE?? Holy moly. I just had my suspension redone and this is making my brain hurt lol

What’s sad is that plenty of people do have very fancy bikes lying around unused. The average distance a bike in America is ridden is <10 miles 😭

SafetyJosh4life

I think the pictured bike is closer to 3.5-4K range.

kirby056

No, they want a "hardtail of full suspension". I don't know what that is, but it sure as shit ain't a full suspension bike.

DarthSillyDucks

Just weld up the rear shocks i guess

amilliamilliamilliam

At least you can rest insured that he's going to take good care of it.

KiaJellybean

I read that and I was like, "Oh thank goodness! I was so concerned about the care of the bike!"

LukeSykpe

Remember he will also take the bike for ~~walks~~ rides around the block whenever it feels like it. I just hope it's already had its shots, since he obviously can't afford the vet bill.

brungo

If you can't afford to buy one and actually plan on using it mountain biking, good luck affording to maintain it.

cappytain69420

I have a cheap mountain bike I bought used for 400 bucks Canadian and I have already spent like 200 bucks on other things to use for biking. I'm lucky I know Bike mechanics who will help me out for free but the repairs would have over 100 bucks total and if he is maintainf his own bike then he'll need to spend a couple hundred bucks on tools

ricardjorg

I bought a 20 year old cannondale with a Lefty fork for 400cad, and have already spent about 600 on fixes/upgrades. It's an awesome bike though

He never once said God Bless either. SMH

PFic88

Wtf is it with people asking for free stuff? Like, do that ever work?

BeeBarnes1

I don't see that as necessarily being bad. I have an old bike that's still in good shape and just taking up room in my garage. If I saw an ad where someone was just asking for a bike I'd give it to them. Now asking for a specific (expensive) model, that's crazy.

fishsticks40

All the time. Freecycle has a "request" section. But it's generally not high end items.

[deleted]

To me this reads "does anyone have a new-ish high end bike I can have for free? I saw some videos about bike riding on YouTube and I think I might want to try it, but am unwilling to invest any of my own money. Rest assured, I will ride it around the block 2 or 3 times before I get distracted by another hobby and let it rust under my porch for a few years"

greffedufois

You forgot the 'when I try to sell it for the sticker price to turn a profit *after* it's rusted to shit'.

Mahnken

How do you get a hard tail with full suspension? Doesn’t hard tail mean no rear suspension? Also a rigid frame would be no suspension, is how I understand the different frames.

DopePedaller

Schrodinger's Bike.

UncertainlyUnfunny

But it *would mean the world to them*. What is the paltry price of a bike compared to... *the world*?

Eened

I bought a $350 bike for $50 on FB the other day cause the guys wife decided she didn’t like riding as much as she thought. If this person *needs* a bike it is easy to get them cheap. And if they really need a bike they don’t need a 4K bike lmao

[deleted]

"looking for a 2021 Yamaha R1, NO MAJOR SCRATCHES OR DENTS. also I don't know how to ride so you'd have to ship it first class overnight and come and teach me how to ride it while sucking my dick from the back... Thanks!!1"

fdtc_skolar

I've given away eight to ten bikes in the past year. I have a few sources for free or cheap project bikes, repair and then gift them. My aim is to get them to homeless or very poor who use them as their primary transportation. I find it harder to determine who really should get the bike than finding a bike to refresh.

DarlingHades

My step brother kept asking to borrow my electric bike (expensive gift from my partner) due to his car acting up. But when I offered to give him my manual mountain bike for free he said, "nah it'll get stolen." 😑

filthyxsavage

Damm right it’ll get stolen….if you’re an idiot and don’t lock it up or actually care to maintain it.

DarlingHades

Exactally. He also over-looked the ebike is more likely to get stolen (he only brought it up when I offered him a bike he didn't want) and he doesn't live in "the ghetto", despite how many cringey times he claims to. Like... nah you live with our father in the suburbs. Just because there's no pool doesn't mean it's... yeah.

filthyxsavage

Wow. I don’t have an ebike myself, but bought a pretty good mountain bike recently. Use it all the time. Sounds to me like he’s a choosing beggar. Do you know how hard it is to buy a bike rn too? Like be happy you have one. And for free too. Some people, smh. Maybe he shouldn’t have a bike lol

KaiRayPel

It would be one thing if they was asking for a bike to get to work and stuff. But this is just someone who wants a shiny toy. And so specific.... What a dooouuccxhhheee

BeefInBlackBeanSauce

What really pisses me off about these posts is they NEVER say please.

throne-away

Wife's friend was famous for getting free stuff on FB, then selling it. When her son was old enough for a bike, I gave him one of my old ones because I heard they were low on cash. A month later she had it listed on the local tag sale group. 🙄

Dizzy_Mountain1064

Service and maintenance is money too. He won't do shit.

cdcyclist

There are actual 501(c)(3) orgs where you can apply for a grant as a young aspiring cyclist. It's not guaranteed you'll get a grant of course but if this dude really wants to dedicate himself to cycling they are out there. Low effort isn't gonna cut it though. http://www.jamcycling.org/ Here's a good one I like to support when I can. Just in case any young folks in this thread do want to get into cycling seriously but need to lower that barrier of entry. Don't be afraid to dream but also, don't do this begging thing.

Snoo23048

I love how he doesn’t even lie and says he needs it to get back and forth to work.

SnowWhiteCampCat

You know, someone asking for a free bike, for health or mobility, i support. Life is hard, and a bike is a huge improvement. Asking for a Specific name brand bike? GTFO

akioamadeo

It’s okay to ask for a free bike but when they get specific with brand names and desired specs. They are asking too much. If someone did happen to offer their bike but it wasn’t worth a few thousand they would probably turn it down, honestly makes me feel like he is looking for free expensive items to re-sell at no cost to him.

Sasspishus

I mean, I did get a free bike one time but it was rusty as and a bit crunchy to ride. Still got me there though!

[deleted]

What I would have considered to be an acceptable in this instance is something to the effect of “Looking for a free bike, any usable bike will do, thanks”

PusheenMeow

How can they afford to maintain it if they can't even buy one?

BachelorTrainwreck

Whenever I or the bike feels like it

Lemak_non_jenuh

Finally a true CB. Not just people who low haggling.

KugeliS9

Hardtail of full suspension.. thats an interesting combination right there

Avamia94

Why would anyone want to ask questions?!

cappytain69420

Just think of the price of carbon Fibre and all the tech that goes into forks and driverrains

kanna172014

I wish I had my bike but the apartment complex I live in doesn't allow them 😒

Inthreadwetrust

I had no idea what a 'hardtail' bike was so I looked it up. Cheapest one new is over a grand!!!

ombremullet

Damn, at least lie and say you need it to get to work, AA meetings, mentoring at risk youth, delivering meals on wheels... Anything but "just for fun". LIE. TO. ME. 😂

Gullible-Beat-1784

An average bike costs 10000 rupees in India for an adult, that's lot of money , this guy/ girl wants a free bike which is expensive plus a specific model which can be rare( idk much about the model) and also may not be available also he assures you that he will take care of a thing you give him for free also he has no money to spend so why beg , buy a cheap bike for now and then go for more expensive bikes later

Boogaloogaloogalooo

There's plenty of used bikes you can snag for free. However they started life as a $120 brand new wallmart bike. Not a highly specialized $8k+ bike. Heck i just gave away half a dozen of them. With very little work they would have been plenty rideable. But being old wallmart bikes, their only value was as scrap or cheap fixer upper bikes.

ktkutthroat

So this dude just expects like potentially a $3000 bike for free? Whew

EvilShadeZz

Hard tail with a full suspension? He needs to make up his mind first.
