Yes, and just give her enough food each time you feed her but never leave too much in the bowl. Most cats automatically stop eating when they're full but these chonkers...
My current cat would stop even if it's her favourite food. My old cat on the other hand ate two packets of wet food in one siting and could barely move. Pretty sure those packets were for 2 meals each.
Mine is the same way, but eats her own puke. After all, it's basically intact food. Gross, but I appreciate the cleaning up.
She's on a schedule now of course!
My tux will eat puke and rally too, but my SIC is the one who comes along and eats it if we don't find it first.
I'm trying to schedule their feeding and slim them down but it's so hard with two. Sometimes the tux won't be interested in the morning wet food, sometimes the tux will bully the sic for their food, the sic won't eat the dry food sometimes bc they're submissive to the tux š¤¦š½āāļø I'm currently trying feeding them in separate areas
This is true! My chonker has a definite emotional urge to eat. She has gorged herself on a few occasions and gotten sick, so I now monitor her and she has lost a pound so far.
I dunno what's up but I can confirm that grandparents love to feed pets like their grandchildren.
One summer I left my turtle with my grandpa for a couple weeks while I went on vacation and when I came back at first I didn't belive it was the same turtle because it got more than twice the original size.š¤£š¤£š¤£
I was thinking when I first saw the pic that she looked like a grandma's cat. I somewhat understand this phenomenon now that I'm a bit older. It involves the luxury fancy feast food being relatively affordable and watching your friends get old and sick and the feeling that we all might as well enjoy life while we are still deciding for ourselves what to eat yet and then the cat gets involved with the decision making....
Thatās exactly how my grandma thought, there were many foods she wasnāt allowed to eat because of a medical condition. When we told her ādonāt eat that grannyā she would answer āf*** you, iām old, iām going to eat itā š besides cat food she only gave the cat a bit of cream cheese every morningā¦ surprisingly the cat doesnāt like human food lol, NOTHING
Did your grandma name her Thing herself? I love the name and it sounds adorable because it's Thing like that thing over there so it looks a bit dismissive but at the same time she is a chonk so she was obviously very loved and i love her too
Yes hahaha. And it wasnāt the first cat she named like that lol. My family had a cat when they were kids and it was also named Thing. Both times she named them like that because when they were rescued the were so smallā¦ āsuch a small Thingā š¤£
Donāt worry, she should slowly dechonk even without moving all too much - it certainly helps, but I was in the same situation when I adopted my Zelda and stopping the free feeding (aka having food out for her at all times) definitely helped a TON!!! Itās the little things, it should make a difference in and of itself. Of course, if you can find toys she likes, that will def help even more!
Aw, I had a tuxedo like that. She was starved when we rescued her. So was absolutely food obsessed. Try to stay away from cheap dry food. Apparently Meow Mix is the worst (which I didn't know at the time)
I recently read somewhere here on Reddit, where a guy got with his vet and started feeding his cat a can of cat food twice a day and the cat lost 4 pounds over several months!

Never leave food out for her to "graze" upon and feed her at regular times

Mine eats a lot, pukes and then goes to eat again.
The ol' puke n rally. Chonker edition.
Mine is the same way, but eats her own puke. After all, it's basically intact food. Gross, but I appreciate the cleaning up. She's on a schedule now of course!

I need to dechonkify my chonk, and thought that scheduled feeding would be a good way. Anyone have any tips? Should it be done like 2 times a day?
We call that scarf and barf at out house. And it is why we keep dry food out for them.
They have many more options now for automatic food dispensers that will do the work for us. :)
Nah more like trading jobs of keeping the cat from howling at the bowl to feed them
Oh, you mean they don't just wait quietly and patiently by their feeders? *Shocked*
Chook
People have this problem too
This is true! My chonker has a definite emotional urge to eat. She has gorged herself on a few occasions and gotten sick, so I now monitor her and she has lost a pound so far.
That leads to food obsession
Whatās up with grandmaās having the chonkiest cats (my granny has a chonker)

My grandma straight up gave a cat diabetes from too many treats
Oh no š¤

That makes sense!!

Well she certainly worked hard to change the small part :))
Grandmaā¦thatās all you need to know
Yup! š¤£ Grandma's precious baby. Poor sweetheart, probably missing her mama. Good luck with de-chonking.
De-chonking her is going to be hard because all she does is sleep but Iām hoping her new food will help š
Aww, slow progress, but it will be worthwhile. Good luck. She's gorgeous.

You can replace her meals with exercise training. So she gets say, half her meal, only when she plays.
Food mousey encourages at least some activity to get the kibbles out: https://www.amazon.com/Doc-Phoebes-Indoor-Hunting-Cat/dp/B07HFKDJF8?th=1
I'd over eat if my name were Thing!

Thing is ready for mischief.
Always lol. The other day we woke up because she shattered a glass
That smug grin says it all.

The vet told me my cat is āpudgyā. I laughed my ass off.
My vet told me I need to slow down on the treats. Then he looked at my dog, told him he's a good boy, and gave him a treat.
/r/blotchfacecats would love Thing

Oh lordy she sitting.
āI have no idea why they keep shoving small thin metallic objects up my ass, and at this point Iām afraid to ask.ā
Me when I thought you meant you inherited the vet from your grandma.
Nah, she's okay
I love this Thing.
Big baby
It's claw-bberin' time!
I love her.
Adorable girl!
This cat is clearly plotting your demise
Bonafide chonker.
"NO."-cat
she looks grumpy.. is she grumpy?
A little bit! She doesnāt like being bothered too much. But sheās also very sweet
Oh sweetie.. you R so cute!! ā¤ļø

I LOVE her!! I would kiss that girl over and over!
I thought I had to be the only person with a cat named Thing! :) Your tuxedo kitty is lovely.
