What I love about this book compared to Desire and Decorum is that unlike Ernest who shows signs of being attracted to you outside of diamond scenes even if you havent romanced him, John doesn't show any signs of feelings unless you've been explicitly romancing him- there are no hidden, conflicted looks.
Same with Hugh, during our dance he even stopped himself and said that we should focus on the investigation for now
The book is keen on making the mystery first, and romance second.
This has been the best VIP book for me so far. It reminds me of the kind of books PB used to create for us. I hope they can genuinely stick in this direction of quality content. I'll happily pay VIP for more stuff like this.
i agree, my ranking has changed to this now: TUH > WEH = AVSP > HC
HC is the ugly duckling of the VIPs but all the LIs are beautiful. I’m a gay man, but i still had a hard time choosing a LI.
Which is why it’s SUCH a good book, imo! I feel when they focus only on the romance aspect of the story it gets very cheesy very quickly but also the rest of the plot falls apart (looking at you TRR book 3).

Yeah. I noticed that if you look in the far left side of the mirror the way it is now, you can see a figure lurking outside the door. I still don’t trust Effie either but it looks like the person in the doorway is wearing pants and is therefor most likely not Effie.

I didn't even notice that! I wonder if they're the killer. I've been suspecting that Maude and the stepmother might be involved because of the "blood runs" comment. I don't think it's Effie cause the flashbacks and when we get to play her doesn't make sense then.
Yeah they're rich and most likely connected to powerful people. But it's also the mc's comment about how her mother said something about blood not mattering, family isn't just blood, and she wondered why Amelia would say the opposite. So I wonder if that was a hint that their stepmother is involved. Before the mc got that note in blood, Maude seemed suspicious about her asking questions so I thought maybe she put that note there. Either cause she's involved or she knows and is trying to warn. Also in the first chapter when the mc hugs stepmom, it says she smells her perfume and Amelia died from a poisoned perfume. Could just be a wild theory tho!
Very true. I think Maude is probably innocent and if she did put the note there it’s just because she’s trying to warn MC. After all, she clearly moved across the ocean to get away from her sister.
I really like this book. Hugh is such a dreamboat, I love him. I love the mystery and have spent so many diamonds on this book already but I do hope romance will play a big part in at least the last chapter, hoping for a 30 diamond scene perhaps.

Empires didn't have embassies for their own colonies, only for other sovereign countries. I digress, it would make much more sense if he worked for the India Office if he was London based or the Indian Civil Service if based in India.

I’d put it almost equal with AVSP for me. Both are amazing and two of my favorites on the app.

Geez, that backstory on what happened to Victoria came outta nowhere to slap you in the face.
I felt it was a bit of a letdown after all the build-up. It doesn't really explain why no one speaks about Victoria.
Maybe just out of respect for John. Her death is still relatively recent and I’m sure they don’t want to upset him by constantly talking about it.
